>What is Ninjala?
Ninjala is a free-to-play arena brawler where you face off against other players using special weapons, skills, and green cum gained from magic Ninja Gum.
>Is there single player content?
Yes, but it's paid and there's not much. Ninjala is primarily a PvP game.
>Is Ninjala dead?
No, we are currently in maintenance mode and GungHo has enough money to keep things running indefinitely. Just keep hoping for Ninjala 2.

Anyone up for Turf?
>>
>>2387679
Sure -G
>>
Always some jackass who can't do anything but press the ninjutsu button and run away.
>>
Nice assist at the end there, might not have been able to kill from there with the amount of lab he had. Also, I'm trying to play without Adjust Targeting Camera turned on so that's going to take some getting used to
>>
>>2387884
Good to see it has some use, this special kind of clash with how I usually play hammer.
>>
>>2387889
Yeah, it's a weird one. Can't really combo with it unless you're somewhat close and use WA. Hyena speed boost helps, but the damage is a bit inconsistent because sometimes only the explosion hits and not the projectile. I've found it good for keeping people in large Grenade at least, or medium Grenade during combos. Otherwise it's good at catching people and chipping away at their HP, but it comes at the cost of your close-range options so you have to rely on Grenade or Utsusemi to protect you up close instead. My last build for it was this, but I haven't used it in a while so I don't know if I'd call it perfect
>(AltSP) Gum Guard Master 12, Life Drain 123, Giant Killer 3, Iron Bind 23
>>
That was one of those matches where I just kind of lived in their spawn and never left. Think the build's working alright. Still iffy on the camera, but it's nice to not have to fight it if I'm aiming Net when locked on
>>
>Lost due to tenshi
Every time.
>>
>>2387953
Random rockets and discos got me too. Gotta love ninjutsu spam invalidating the entire rest of the match. Bound to happen in a 6v2
>>
Next one is my last match for tonight.
>>
>>2387976
Thanks for the games then, it was fun!
>>
>A disconnect on each team.
Weird, anyway GGs and thanks for the squad!

Yes -G
>>
>>2390987
Invite sent, sorry for the wait
>>
I'll be honest with you, I didn't believe we could actually win since the start of the match.
>>
Nice comeback there, always feels good to beat a scumfuck VS shitter.
>>
>>2391104
Don't forget full on lab juice.
>>
>>2391109
Oh yeah, can't forget that part. Just the instant win button on its own isn't enough
>>
Oh well, guess that's all for this week then. GGs!
>>
>No last minute match
Figures, still we got plenty of matches GGs!
>>
Huh, there's a tournament going on.
>>
>>2391478
Tempted since I didn't get to test this setup with Matsuri Board enough, but I think I've had enough of people pressing instant win buttons today

Anyone up for Turf?
>>
>>2445210
Yes -G
>>
That person sure couldn't do anything but press win buttons
>>
>>2445468
I'm not a huge fan of the kit on Door but at the very least it does very well against people that like to spam poison
>>
That sk8te sure was juiced, Imagine having to land 3 NA with drums for a kill.
>>
>>2445547
I don't have to imagine it, it happens way more often than i would want it to and it kinda makes me want to kill myself or otherwise kill somebody
>>
I forgot to press the button. Would appreciate it if you reinvited me after you're over.
>>
Them having the advantage for most of the match worked better for us.
>>
>>2445615
Damnit, i forgot again. Same deal, please reinvite me after you guys are over.
>>
I don't know why Poison spammers even play the game. Is pressing one button really that entertaining?
>>
Was our teammate actually conscious? It felt like we were outnumbered all game
>>
Man, lowered my guard last bit, also did our 4th even do anithing?
>>
>>2445768
he was a good meatshield when i was dealing with people at the point near spawn at least.
That aside, not good for much else.
>>
>Tornado AND Dragon spam.
Just great.
>>
There's nothing better than making a katana ragequit

Welp, that's it for me tonight, thanks for the squad!

GGs then! Hope we can squad again tomorrow

GGs. Thanks for the games!

Anybody up for more Turf? Figured it'd be better to get an early start since it tends to die later on
>>

I can join in like an hour.

>>2448999
>>2449074
Sorry for the wait, can join now -G
>>
Sorry about that, it took me a while to get used to the motor yoyo.
>>
>>2449771
No worries, not many people use them these days. The trick is simply guarding, they can't do much about that with how slow their Break is. Sound waves beat armor too. That guy was full up on Lab juice, unfortunately. Definitely should not have died to a horse plus one NA when I tried to help
>>
Need to do something now, so I'll pause for like 10-15 mins, Brb.
>>
Ready to join again.
>>
>>2449976
You didn't miss anything
>>
It feels genuinely fucking insulting that we waited an hour for a match and it was this bs.
>>
>endless poison spam when they weren't even losing
Absolutely disgusting. The shitter with the snakes survived a max trick wide attack too, somehow. Despite that ignoring damage reductions. I didn't even think it was possible to have that much lab, you can OHKO a Beast with that thing
>>
4/4
until it wasn't and the game decided we could just go fuck ourselves
>>
>Poison spammer get killed by Tornado.
Sweet justice.
>>
Well we tried, shame Sundays are like this, thanks for the squad.
>>
Guess that's it then. Pretty slow night, but GGs nonetheless
>>
>>2450779
Sorry i couldn't make it earlier, but at least we still got a couple games out of it. GGS!
>>
Team tournament in 2 days.

Always make katana players ragequit. It's always morally correct.
>>

wow, I actually swapped sides at last

>caught him boosting into our spawn with max trick BA to large Net
>Hyena makes it strong enough to go through both Starting Dash and Lab
>ragequites just too late to prevent the IPPON
Felt great

>>2525571
It'll probably be better with less people. It seems to mess up more with people who have incompatible connections on the same team, but it doesn't have any issue putting us on different teams for some reason. I'd still be up to give it a shot if you want
>>
>>2525571
I think a duo could work, worse case scenario it would probably end in a 2vs2, disconnection aside.
>>
Of fucking course, 4/4 and "not found".
:<
>>
>>2525592
It was more of a last second disconnect but yes.

Sent you an invite to try a duo.

>>
>>2525618
Guess not, I didn't go back to the main base screen.
>>
>>2525625
Huh, the game said otherwise and even let me invite, now it shows Battle in progress, let me know when you enter the base.
>>
>>2525637

>>
>>2525639
GGs then, take care.

I can still keep going Ma.

Oh well, GGs then. We should try duos earlier next time though, they'll probably work better

>>2525649
Invited
>>
>>2525639
GGs, we at least got to play a bit all of us
>>
The curse of death alley strikes again. Once again turning the brains of the other team into mush apparently.
>>
Felt like they spent more time with barrier up than without it
>>
Guy was doing literally nothing but trying to farm Poison IPPONs. Pathetic.
>>
Hope they enjoyed my Poison since they seem to love using Poison.
>>
Poison and Barrier are so tiresome, also last one for me tonight, GGs and thanks for the squad!
>>
>>2525948
GGs, thanks for playing! Too bad there were so many ninjutsu spammers tonight. Last match had that guy who could only run away and Utsusemi when barrier was down too. Glad he died at the end.
>>
>>2525948
GGs, glad we managed to have some fun before it all devolved into poison hell.

They did say it was part 1, so maybe part 2 will be PvP? We'll have to see how open-ended the story is I guess. They have robots and it'll be harder to mess up PvE though, so I'm not complaining even if I did like the PvP

Brand name is my guess, explains what it is pretty succinctly even if its not a sequel in the traditional sense.
Also this is just me but I feel like sequel names don't mean anything anymore, stuff like [Game] Genesis, [Game] Gaiden, [Game] Revolution, or Fates, or whatever the fuck, it's all just noise. Ninjala 2 is the best title for me.
>>2570902
I doubt it honestly, we'll probably get some kind of bonus but there's a lot of money to be had by charging us to get our old gear back. Maybe if they're really nice they can make it so a purchase on Ninjala 1 gets you the item in both games but genuinely what company would be that generous?
>>
>>2571026
>Probably because people have wanted Ninjala 2 and PvE for so long
That and they were testing something like that in the recent Chapter, also welcome back Ma
You think they'll actually use the concept stuff for this sequel? Will we see something akin to Dark souls with other gummies invading and shit while being affected by aliens?
>>
>>2571051
>Ninjala 2 is the best title for me.
Fair, wouldn't know what else to name a game sequel where the previous iteration was mostly a 4v4 game with a few chapters that barely expanded on the lore if we don't use much of the background for most of the matches and the resort area
Now that I think of it, the birth of the school in 1945 and the ninja origins will definitely be talked about,
>>
This must have been years in dev time already, when Ninjala 1 stopped getting collabs?

>>2571056
I never left! In fact, I've been publicly wishing for Ninjala 2 before every gaming event. I have no idea what to expect from this, it's so out of left field. Invasions would be cool though! there's a ton of stuff they could do with this game. I dunno how much concept stuff they have left at this point? There's no hope for the Italy stage since it's an alien world, but it seems like we may finally get some real lore for everything after all this time

>>2571051
It's GungHo, so I expect the monetization to be awful
>>
>>2571148

>>
Even with all this we can't get a thread stay alive in /v/, we are still niche as fuck.
>>
>>2571169
To be fair, there were a lot of other announcements to push it off. I assume. I just had like 15 people contact me all at once and didn't bother to watch the rest of the direct because I immediately knew that I got what I wanted out of it
>>
Ok, if Ninjala insist in being Switch exclu5, WHY WE DON'T GET NINTENDO COLLBAS?! Now with Ninjala 2 happening, against all the odds, being switch 2 exclusive, Nintendo collabs are even more justified.
>>
>>2571196

Yeah, it's been ages. They really haven't done much in terms of lore even with 200+ episodes of the anime to work with. It seems like this one will have an actual story, so I'm hopeful we get more. I do kind of hope they unfuck Ninjala 1, but just starting fresh on a new PvP part to Ninjala 2 might be a better call for that since I don't know if they CAN unfuck 1 at this point

Interesting! Maybe that means new customization options too. I hope the Kappei hair returns at least

What a weird place to put this. Maybe it'll have anime characters too then? I guess the anime is the canon story now?

It was from some interview from the E3 2018 announcement or something, I don't know if I can dig that one up though. Good question about the manga, I'll bug the guy I commed to scan it. There was the short-lived gag manga after that got cancelled too, but I dunno if anyone's interested in it. Come to think of it, I should probably finish uploading the anime somewhere one of these days too

Of all the things that I thought would happen, Ninjala 2 was certainly not one of them.
Shame I'm not getting a Switch 2 anytime soon.

Been trying to work through my backlog, primarily SMT games. So far I've gotten Digital Devil Saga 1/2 and SMTiV done. But also caught up in playing new stuff like Digimon Time Stranger and Monster Hunter Stories 3..
I managed to get a Steam Deck before the price hike, and it's honestly been a godsend in terms of getting me to game more thanks to it's convenience.
While I haven't posted in ages and only started to again thank to Ninjala 2 reveal, I've lurked because yeah, the time spent in this general was pretty special for me too.

>I got into another game that has a very similar seasonal pass system to Ninjala, it also has a general here on /vm/.
But is the gameplay the same? I'll admit I've been looking for something like Ninjala to fill the void, I never wouldve thought we'd get a damn sequel!
>>
>>2572032
Yeah Digimon has been on the upswing surprisingly enough. Can only hope Bandai doesn't fuck it up.
And yeah a few years ago I decided to drop consoles all together and focus on PC. And I sure picked a good time because I ended up getting a good PC and a Steam Deck before prices got raised to hell.
So for Switch 2 all I can do it just wait for emulation to finally happen for it. At the very least I can be reasonably safe in thinking Dragon Quest Monsters 4 will come to PC eventually, like 3 did.

ATTENTION ALL BIG HEADED, DUM BABY /gum/MIES. T'is my most esteemed pleasure to announce my grand return to the general. All of you will have to once again deal with my schizophrenic ramblings, tyrannical tirades, and horrible headcanons (although, we will finally have more canonical content to work with. Furthermore, it would seem that the anime's canon is now properly intertwined with the games'?).
Most importantly, however, is that you all will once again have to carry me through the entirety of Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet, releasing exclusively(?) on the Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring of 2027. Each and every single one of you. Some of you will scream, some of you will cry, some of you will tear your hair out. For that matter, some of you will even die. Cute riders, I see I'm not the only one who sticks with one hair color for CaC games! I might end up starting over too, not sure. The combat was a lot more interesting than the first two, but the characters are also less cute. Had a heck of a time coming up with an ouji that I liked in 3.I had another minty lad in 1, but I don't have any good screenshots of that since it was stuck on 3DS for a while. I actually started 2 multiple times; once on switch, then again on deck. Unfortunately, the deck has a vibrant color setting which was on by default which totally screwed up the shade of green I was going for so now I have to start over again because I only realized that after playing for a bit and I haven't felt like going back to it after trying 3's new gameplay

I played through MHS1 3 time. Two on the 3DS, once on Pc.
Played through MHS2 2 times. Both on Switch (pictured: second playthrough rider I just wanted to make some bullshit). I was planning to try and beat it again before Stories 3 came out but never got around to starting it on PC. And yeah, now after having played 3 it's gonna be hard to go back to 2. I was already sick of 1 by the time I finished that 3rd playthrough because I hate how random it feels compared to 2 and now 3.

How could I forget you? My ninja is officially known as "GB" now, because you always called him that and I'm too lazy to come up with anything else it'd be weird to call him something different at this point I thought it'd be funny if nobody knew his real name. Glad to hear you're doing well! I can't say the same for myself, but I can't complain too much right after Ninjala 2 finally got announced

>team battle
>solo
Dang man, no wonder you left. I just did that with Matsuri Board the other day because I was desperate to test a build and it sucked even with a droning weapon. Don't think I got a single decent team until like an hour or two in

>>2573191
Very cute porcupine! And yeah the randomness is what put me off. 2 was better, but you could completely lock down monsters if you memorized their patterns. 3 felt more like a proper monhun where the RPS was only used for openings, although some of the weapon mechanics suffered a bit for it. Still, easily felt the best from what I played so far.
>a whole new save?
For 2? Yeah, they have that awful character edit voucher system gating most changes. I'd have to mod it out if I wanted to stick with that save file. Worked pretty well for Rise though, so I might do that
>>
>>2573445
Uh none of the Stories games have the Character Edit Voucher system. You can just freely change them whenever you want.

Hasn't stopped yet, seems like Wilds is Gen 5-2. Was very happy to see them knock that off with Stories 3 at least, and I haven't given up hope on Wilds improving yet. The next portable game (besides Wilds) is what I'm really interested in though
>>
>>2573561
I do really like Wilds. Moreso than Rise and ESPECIALLY World. Pretty hyped for what Ascendance will bring. Dropping Lao in the reveal trailer is already pretty nuts.

Also suddenly reminded myself of the early Ninjala collab with MH and for some reason one of the outfits was Aknosom's armor for same unexplainable reason.
>>
>>2573582
I haven't liked any game since World until I gave Rise more of a chance after the Sunbreak update. It's one of my favorites now because of the sheer amount of gameplay variety, but how weak almost every single monster is along with the wyvern riding minigame for extra drops that my autism compels me to go for every time is kind of pissing me off lately. Worst partbreaks in the series too. World just didn't have anything I liked, at all. It was a reduction of what the series already had in every way except (actual) QoL and weapon movesets which probably would have been a thing for the next game regardless of their big engine reset. Wilds has a lot of the same issues, but at least it's trying something new so I want to give it a proper chance. The combat doesn't seem very monhun anymore, but it seems like it could still be fun on its own merits if they tune the rest of the game more like recent title updates. Haven't been able to play it myself yet, but I've been keeping up with it closely and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on any new info for it

>aknosom armor
Man, it wasn't even that good in the game itself since you couldn't close the visor. Don't know what they were thinking with that one. They fumbled the outfit distribution by making all the armors gachas too, which they never did again after that. I bet that made it flop and that's why they skipped Sunbreak
>>
>>2573617
For me, World just has nothing about it that makes me want to play it. The combat is in an awkward middle ground of trying to be slower like older MH, but faster to appeal to a new audience. It makes just playing it unsatisfying. Combined with the fact that I generally hate how it looks and find most of the roster to be ass.
Rise at least commits to it's faster pace and gives an experience you can only get within it. Much better roster, especially with Sunbreak (seriously Espinas alone brought so much potential) Plus I don't feel more soul sucked out of me when I look at it.
While Wilds certainly has issues, it feels more confident in execution than World. It's roster is pretty fantastic, and it's honestly the most fun I'm have with Dual Blades since Frontier. Ideally the harsh initial reception Wilds got means they know what to address for the Expansion, especially since it's still not until 2027, which means it has almost a whole extra year in the oven than the World and Rise expansions.
>>
>>2570771
Hey to be fair, PvP becoming insufferable was mostly on how GungHo themselves handled the game.

>>
>>2571246

>>
>>2573693
That about sums up my feelings on World. I spent 100 hours looking for something to make me want to continue and I did not find it. The weapons sucked, the monsters sucked, the armor sucked, the general visual style sucked. Everything sucked. Hated it. Easily my most hated game of all time, and it doesn't feel like the series has recovered from it even after all these years. Wilds looks like it has better monsters and gear by a long shot, although I still hate the art style they went with for it and the actual number of monsters is pretty low even if it's a good selection. I'm really hoping they can pull it together and make the whole thing a solid package with this expansion rather than just adding stuff after you already finished the main game, but it sounds like they're getting tons of flak from all over the world so I am hopeful that it will improve regardless

Also Espinas is great, loved that guy in Frontier! Speaking of which, I need to go back to Frontier at some point; only haven't due to personal reasons. It was my favorite game in the series from what I played, even with all that MMO stuff I could do without. Feral Demon Mode in Rise kind of gave me a similar feeling to extreme DBs, but it wasn't quite the same as dancing around the monster at 1 HP

>>2573809
>>2573813
I'd like them to revisit PvP at some point, but it seemed like Soleil were the guys who knew how to balance it so I don't trust GungHo to do it right anymore. Ninjala 1 didn't have that much input complexity so tryharding shouldn't have been an issue, but they they threw on P2W and power creep so even if you tryhard you just die instantly due to what are effectively cheat codes and bad respawns + mechanics that give players free points. They just kind of made it an unfun game for everyone. The final patch had some nice buffs in it, but they didn't nerf anything that needed it and of course they threw in another Katana buff so it's obvious they still don't know what they're doing.

Heh-heh. I look back fondly on those early days of the general. Being part of this community throughout its conception is an experience I hold onto dearly. While figuring out the game's mechanics, most of us gathered here (or there in /vg/) were also putting together our first outfits for Ninjas. Slowly, due in part to the weird rotating shop then, our preliminary designs transformed into the recognizable characters or avatars we all know and love. Geek Boy is still one of my favourites, and not just because I helped name him! Then again, I developed a fondness for most /gum/mies.
Thank you again, though, I am sorry to hear that your own situation has you stressed. Having something to look forward to always helps. A silver-lining.

>Dang man, no wonder you left
Yeah... solo-queuing into Ninjala TB is an experience I wish upon no one. Coupled with the Research Lab and other games nagging for my attention down the line, I had no zeal left to deal with Ninjala 1. In retrospect, I really wish I asked you and the other fine folk of the thread to play more when I was active. Someone was usually around in the thread to play for fun or Dailes. Heck, I had a bunch of you added on Twitter and/or Discord.

>still making these sick WEBMs
I love this guy! Passively watching your material and reading your posts was what helped me to eventually learn the game, honestly. No matter how badly the odds may be stacked against you, you always manage to turn each battle into a learning experience. Real admirable, it is.
>>
So this is just a shot in the dark, but we don't have any /gum/mies headed to AX for the demo do we?
>>
>>2573483
That would be my fear as well. Losing my Ninja's clothing is a hurdle that can be overcome. Splatoon beat that lesson into me rather ruthlessly. Redesigning a returning OC's wardrobe in a successive title is always a possibility, and as someone who loves tailoring outfits, a fun one at that. For Ninjala 2 specifically, it would be a shame to lose access to a Ninja's face, voice, or hairstyle. According to another poster and what was seen in the trailer, the Main Eight's faces are all in (will the Main Eight themselves return as NPCs?). Now we just need to worry about voice banks and hairstyles.
GungHo bringing back all of the voice banks and "original" hairstyles from the first game would be ideal. Those are a few elements that I rather not lose access to. Fashion Lenses and Body Paint coming back would be the cherry on top. Sigh, being granted the privilege of porting over a saved preset from save data of Ninjala 1 to use as one's avatar in Ninjala 2 would make for an amazing save data bonus...

>>2574250
Thus begins our great pilgrimage...
>>
>>2574264
At the very least they have no reason to not port over all the stuff that they have already done. Probably not all at once to then dripfeed it later, or all at once to gloat over all the starting content in the game.
The biggest shame are going to be the gacha/season/collab items, particularly the collab items.

>>2574292
Lamentable as it is, I could understand why GungHo would be hesitant to bring back the collaborative items. Renewing the licenses for each of those items/IPs would likely be troublesome. Costly, too. If they can move all the basic items forward to the new game, I could hardly complain. Gachapon and Ninjala Pass items, too, as you mentioned. Which makes me wonder... Ninjala 2: The Uncharted Planet appears to be a 1-time purchase, no? One would hope.

>webms
Glad they helped! I don't have the time/motivation to make many of them these days, but I do dump clips from Turf Match and such every now and then. I've still got more to learn about the game too, so it's nice to be able to share it. Bunch of clip dumps in the last thread if you're interested:
>>2028124 go to the archive and search for streamable (there are plenty more in older threads)

>No matter how badly the odds may be stacked against you
It's pretty bad these days. I've still got my P2W turned off and my cards restricted, so fighting lab monkeys means an uphill battle against literal cheat codes every match. There's not much left for anyone to learn about Ninjala anymore when you can just buy drugs and press instant win buttons, but I do still try to learn. Last big thing I found was Motor being able to combo into Special by manually aiming your dodge upward after WA and that was two years ago apparently, but I am still finding smaller things every few play sessions

>>2574250
I want to, but I'm not in the area and don't want to risk being caught on camera. I'll just over-analyze any footage that comes of it

Actually, I guess learning that the best Special for Yo-yo and Spinner switched places with the last few patches was pretty big. I'm sure people will just stick with the one they prefer, but in my own testing I can confidently say that Yo-yo feels best with Yo-yo Leap now and Spinner feels best with Hurricane Shake. And ASASKUSA Wheel literally does not function without Yo-yo Leap to waste bursts and deal massive damage, but at least it has that going for it now.

It's a combination of things and 'feel'.
OG ninjala has a kind of vectorheart/y2k style to it, with some pop bubblegum on top. Bold texts and shadows. Font is that one that pretty much every modern JP game uses (it's handy that said font has kana characters, so no wonder it's so used). But now it's just a generic as fuck sans-serif thin font.

Then, the 547/547 HP counter has an outline AND a dropshadow (consistent with old style), but then you have the Lv. 1 text and '30' having just an outline instead. No consistency.
Also, the Lv.1 text just hanging off the side of the gauge looks bad, it's tacked on. I'd put it inside the gauge.

HP bar is fine I guess, but it looks boring compared to OG. I feel it's two or three steps away from picrel.

The ninjutsu gauge in OG is quick and easy to read. We don't have an example of a partially filled one in the N2 image, but it doesn't appear to have a well defined outline like OG's. Full gauge has the flame animation which certainly draws attention signaling that it's full.

I kinda feel like N2 went the Guilty Gear Strive route. Just compare Xrd or XX to Strive and the difference is staggering and I fucking hate it
>>
>>2572032
>it's on something on a hiatus since I have an actual freelance animation job coming up this month, very exciting..
Damn, rip to the free time for the project (how much left do you have to do to finish it up? If the pays good enough, you could probably get someone to tie up whatever loose ends are on it lol) but congrats on snagging a job! You allowed to say what it is, or are you on an NDA?

N1 had a lot of jank (and still does) but if there's ONE thing I'm fully praising it for, it has to be the UI design and identity. It's consistent all the way through, even on the website.
N2 is not giving me the same feeling.
>>
>>2574549
>>2574553
Yeah, you've got a point there. It doesn't feel very "Ninjala" even if it's more useful than the old UI, and they could definitely stand to make some improvements. I don't think mixing in things from the old UI like the flame effect helps much either since it just feels a bit out of place with the new stuff. The website also feels like it's a bit all over the place. Kind of hoping they change it now

Somehow, I would like to believe that this general's fantastical sentiment towards Kuroko reached GungHo, and that is the reason why they appear as often as they do. Maybe it is just a handful of Japanese fans who think they look cute, but, IDK, I love seeing those silly pillows with wind-up keys become secondary mascots to the IP following Gumchi.
The anime was never something that I followed closely. However, I do believe there are entire episodes dedicated to the little stage hands? Maybe I should finally catch-up now that the games' canon is intertwined with the events of the animated series.

I don't think that's worth it as someone who has both. The Switch 2 isn't that great; worse inputs and speakers on the bottom. Only real benefits over the Deck are exclusives and things just working without needing to fiddle with them. Some games might run better on Switch 2 than Deck because they were specifically tuned for it, but that's something you'd need to check on a game-by-game basis. I've seen a few cases where games don't run well on either too

Yup, that's the main draw. I already have a PC that can play anything my deck does, my main purpose for getting it was seamless play between the couch/bed and PC. Theoretically I can do practically the same thing with Moonlight but I am far more drawn to being able to play games locally instead of streaming. They tend to be rather monotonous, no? Busy tending to their duties, keeping the place spick and span. Would anyone "ask" them to be spanked? Hmm, maybe not. Certainly, one could goad them into the act if they really wanted to be treated that way. More research is needed.

Not only is it outright canon, but the anime being "required viewing material" for Ninjala 2 feels surreal. Yet, it makes perfect sense. Ninjala 1's Story Mode was inconsistent, failed to propel the universe's narrative forward in any meaningful capacity (I think, it has been a while), and was ultimately abandoned. The CoroCoro manga is a separate continuity altogether, complete with its own exclusive story arcs and interpretations of major characters. GungHo's artbooks and reference material include concepts that can be be reasonably debated as being/still being canonical to the timeline of Ninjala (a big one was that Ninja Gumballs were made with the condensed essence of Space Ninjas, if I remember correctly). Of the story elements introduced with Ninjala 1, the only one that was never rendered null was the 3-D Episode 0 Cinematic, which still serves as the genesis of Ninjala's overall concept and setting. Unless, of course, the anime has overwritten that scenario too. As an aside, I am once again reminded of how absolutely feral I feel when laying eyes upon the grown-up quartet in their adult forms.
This makes me wonder how well regarded the anime is to both its domestic Japanese audience and global audiences via YouTube uploads. Ninjala's animated series has been running for a whole 4 years already, outliving even the first game itself in terms of being actively supported with content. Is the series a hit, or is it just more of that sweet P&D money funding the dream? Suppose it might be fun to start watching, at any rate.

Well, Morishita is doing the storyboards for the anime for some reason and he did say he had a "long story" in mind for Ninjala, so I guess it makes sense that the anime would be the canon one. Even though it directly contradicts Jane's backstory from the cartoon anime episode and the game's loading screens. And the fashion models from the game never appeared in the anime. And Leonard seems to be a totally different character. Bruce too. Heck, even the main kids to some extent. They actually redid Episode 0 for the anime (although it was almost entirely the same aside from some missing sass), so I guess that should have been the signal that it was a full reboot.

So yeah, it makes sense that they'd use that as the backstory for the games moving forward, I guess. And because of all those inconsistencies from before, it makes sense that the second game would be more story-focused to pull things together. As for whether the anime is popular, I think I can safely say it is not. Nobody on here talks about it outside of one or two anons on /a/, nobody outside of here even knows what a Ninjala is. It's moderately more popular in Japan, but I don't think it's by much. They seem more accepting of scumbag P2W horseshit like Lab over there though, so the game is slightly less dead on the JP servers. Shame the manga got cancelled, that was one of the coolest things Ninjala had even if it didn't line up with Morishita's grand vision

>Morishita does the storyboards for the anime himself
>has "a long story" in mind for the IP
>"Morishita's grand vision"
>suddenly reminded of the /ink/ meme about "Nogami's vision" for Splatoon
lol anyway. That fella embodies a staggering amount of passion for an IP that he must know is niche at best. I respect it. Ninjala 2 being a 1-4 player open-world PvE adventure utilizing the same great movement and combat from its multiplayer-focused predecessor is one of the best things that could have happened for the guy, and maybe the game itself. The mishandling of Ninjala 1 over time was unjustifiable. If memory serves me right, Kaneda was the one with better sense and scope for Ninjala 1 as a live-service competitive multiplayer title. Morishita was just "not that guy".

>the cartoon's anime episode
I knew there was one other canon that I forgot to mention. The Cartoon Anime seemingly continued from 3-D Episode 0, and was then set to lead into the 1's Story Mode. Back to the main topic at hand. Based on what you are saying, the team made the right choice. Rebooting the world's narrative entirely through the anime, then using said anime as the foundation for Ninjala 2 thereafter, was a wise decision. Ninjala's worldbuilding was convoluted as it was. By redacting all of the previous stories, the creative team and refocus for an undisturbed vision on what comes next. This might hurt those of us who have been following the IP since its beginning, but, I personally support their motives.

>They seem more accepting of scumbag P2W horseshit like Lab
Lmao, Japan moment. My hope is that this "rebooting" of the franchise finally provides Ninjala the wind it needs beneath its wings to fly far. To that, I am surprised that The Uncharted Planet will be an NS2 exclusive.

If only Morishita had the competence to back it up and didn't ruin everything he touched with horrible business and gameplay decisions. Still, the passion for creating is respectable if nothing else. I don't really know what Kaneda did, but I do know Morishita is responsible for Lab and most likely for taking Arakawa off the project before it released.

But yeah, here's hoping this gives Ninjala some staying power. Seems it's still only popular among Ninjala fans from the reception to the trailer, but who knows how it'll be when it actually comes out. They sure aren't pleasing the people who wanted it on other platforms though

I wonder if they're actually any older or if this is just due to the art style/proportion change? If you only need to watch 63 episodes of the anime for this then the main 8 should still be the same age as in-game

Kinda labbing in Training Mode right now, checking out some of the new loadout elements that were added since I last played. First of all, WONDERFUL to know that the game's camera still focuses on my Ninja's bean butt more than anything else. So important, thank you. Second of all,
>Gum Searcher
enough said. Now for the important stuff... Punch Type-B (Shield & Blaster) is kind of boring, no? Probably better in real combat, but it feels very "one-note" as a Gum Weapon. Extra Type-B (Sensu Fan) is pretty unique. Mastering that GW will require careful consideration of its Regular Attack 1 being a deflect and its Special. Extra Type-B is perhaps more reliant on its Special than any other class in the game? Borderline armchair conjecture, but I thought I would share my thoughts and ask.
>>
>>2583057
Skateboards and Extra Type-A (Iai Blades) have an argument for more special reliance, especially the latter with Bolt Slash/Variable Stance.
Off-topic, but artist/source for the adult Berecca art? Looks amazing, shame there isn't more art of her.

kinda makes sense, as we get new games they grow older and then they'll finally be full adults like this

The Ninja Meth Lab is a special kind of evil. Lord, I ask thee: What did we do to deserve this?

>>2583142
OH yeah, lmao. Yeah, Board Type-A/Skateboards are designed *entirely* around, well, skating. Heard from a friend about the diabolical nature of Extra Type-A (Lai [Laido] Blade, huh?) and how harrowing it is to battle against either of the class' Specials. Hmm, checks out. If I want to try playing again, I will need to figure out what Gum Weapon or class appeals to me most.
>artist/source for the adult Berecca? ... shame there isn't more art of her
Aye, I hear ya. More artwork of the grown-up quartet as, y'know, grown-ups would be terrific. Alas, their older designs go sort of forgotten. Artist source is まいんど on Pixiv or ookiiinu on Bluesky! This piece of Emma is also by the same artist.

Yeah, they never fixed Searcher. All they did was make it better at the things it already did while never reverting the awful change from manual aim to homing that makes it completely useless for searching, area denial, or even drone combos (it misses at point blank if you jump). Each of the 6 pulses drains 3 s-energy now to let it keep up with the higher energy regen, and it deals 40/50/60 damage for S/M/L sizes so it does have uses, but none of them are for IPPONs without Giant Killer or Master of Change. Also, even the increased energy drain isn't enough to make up for Last Spurt or Sudden Burst. Mellow's Alter Special, Golden March, is incredibly broken though, and it never needed any help sealing bursts in the first place, so it's doing fine despite that. ASAKUSA Wheel on the other hand can barely be called a functional weapon, but at least the range and damage boost to Yo-yo Leap gives it a real way to waste bursts, kill before knockdown, and take advantage of MoC for sniping. The extra damage on Searcher is also nice for Beast, and GBI does damage now too so they pair well together. The only build I could find that worked for it is
>(SP) Master of Change 123, Gum Guard Master 13, Giant Killer 1, Gum Boost Impact 13, Ninjutsu Stock 12

Unlike most of my ASAKUSA Wheel builds over the years it actually felt like this one was effective and not just a massive cope. MoC is the main attraction here, since it uses that very well. GGM is needed to keep your distance from people and defend yourself without a gum shoot. Giant Killer's use is obvious, and HP regen works well on a weapon with low HP that shouldn't be taking many hits. Gum Boost Impact is mostly for Beast, but it's pretty nice on Yo-yos too; especially considering you can both drain energy and slow targets so they're stuck in place. Gives it some good chasing ability and punishes people for chasing you back. Ninjutsu Stock is there because it's the only card that Beast needs to be effective.
>>
>>2585183
Oh right, and there's no way to shoot for IPPONs without Giant Killer or MoC aside from guard break setups or weapon break reads; neither of which are reliable. Still, it can at least do stuff now. I got IPPON Master much more consistently than I ever have with it after the recent Leap buffs. Examples:

Yeah, Cannons are pretty boring. The trick is to use fully charged shots to link combos together, which requires a two-finger grip on the shoulder so you can charge constantly while using the Break Attack button for most actions including gum shoots. They're extremely strong though since the counter doesn't lose to anything but ninjutsu (also the followup has invulnerability at the start), and projectiles in general are broken; and these projectiles you can use while moving. The builds for them are unique at least, since charge shots require energy to fire and that requires some energy cards even if you can charge energy with Special in a pinch. Thunder Cannon also ignores guard from across the stage and that's as broken as it sounds. Cannon Bomber on the other hand gets stronger the closer you are and offers decent movement, but it's not busted like Thunder Cannon and its unblockable gumbind setups. Things are a menace. The only thing holding them back from being more common is the 2-finger shoulder grip, I think. Back buttons on the procon 2 help with that though

GW? You mean guard point? They increased the window for it so it's not too hard these days, and the Specials protect against projectiles in addition to their other effects. Very strong defense on those weapons
>>
>>2585417
>>2583057
With both the guard on NA and the Specials, there's not much you can do about them besides try to make them mess up their timing for the guard. I don't think they rely on the Specials that much though, their basic moveset is pretty strong in general. Back Attack is multihit so it tends to bug out and cancel parries, meaning it's very effective to just spam it. NA's guard only loses to projectiles and can lead to a gumbind combo on Flurry (Tempest requires Wind Caller's wing orbs for this), plus the NA2 is pretty good for catching people with its huge range and forward movement. WA is good for movement and can let you rotate around drones. Break is really good in general, but can also combo into a gumbind on Flurry if you're quick enough at double-tapping. Solid base moveset all around, only weak link is the WA finisher to the NA combo.

Granted, the Specials are really good too. Tornado Shot may look like a projectile, but don't be fooled; it is a wall. The projectile isn't good at catching people, but it's great at blocking gum shoots and can gumbind combo if you catch somebody distracted with it. The Wide version is more obviously a wall, and can both obstruct vision and gives you and your team a super powerful means of transportation. Either one both gives you a speed boost and enhances your attacks. The effects of the enhanced attacks are as follows, with damage boosts for all:
>NA
Becomes a charging move. It's not great since it doesn't travel much, but it's useful. Stops you from using the guard point, which can be bad.
>BA
Becomes larger, removes blockstun on your side if you hit guard, and erases projectiles.
>WA:
Becomes larger, gets spin stun, and gets long invulnerability. Use this instead of the guard point.
>Break Attack
Better movement, catches people more easily. Bigger/Faster? Not totally sure on the specifics, but it's the same great Break as before only better. Counts as the first hit of your NA combo when enhanced.
>>
>>2585603
>NA's guard only loses to projectiles
And ninjutsu, of course. Take note of the weapon abilities too, all of those are pretty strong.

Wind Caller gives you two wind orbs that automatically block projectiles, but can also be spent by pressing Special again for a beam that gets more damage/hitstun the more orbs you have or by attacking normally and having the orbs follow up. The beam, again, isn't great for catching people; only for distracted opponents and stealing. Blocking projectiles is very strong on the other hand, and Tempest Lord's combos become much easier and more freeform if you hold on to your orbs instead. Webm related. I think the new higher duration on the guard point might have beaten that BA at the end, also.

I'd say they're one of the strongest weapons in the game right now if only because of the Specials that block projectiles alongside the NA that blocks melee/WA with long invulnerability; not to mention the panic button Specials. They're the epitome of GungHo not wanting players to interact at all outside of stealing, because fighting a good one is an enormous waste of time in the point race modes. Cannon and Iai are the only things that come close, aside from maybe Golden March weapons. I will say that it's a bit trickier to use them than the others though, since I see people mess up the guard point all the time. Very easy to drone uncontested with either way though.

>>2583142
I actually find Sweet Ride to be kind of awful, the 1-shot is really just a gimmick you'll barely ever hit with. The Special itself doesn't offer any utility in fights aside from running away and stalling until you see an opening. They buffed the rest of the moveset to compensate for this though, so if anything they're a weapon that doesn't need to rely on Special much. Sweet Ride is much easier to use after its last buffs, at least; low cooldown and even usable after a gumbind with big weapon (although their DPS is fine without it now too)
>>
>>2583142
>>2585756
Of course, that's a whole different story with Sonic Trick. Guess that applies to any projectile Special though.

For Slash Types, most of them rely on their Specials because they don't know how to use the weapon, but I think it's pretty strong without them too. All of the timed zanshin attacks are ridiculous; ZNA works as a dodge due to movement and speed and lets people throw out instant 100 damage chasing attacks constantly, ZBA is a spammable projectile that can lock you in place with only a small gap to escape, and ZWA has invulnerability for some god-forsaken reason so even if it looks like you've caught someone they can just slip out for free. They'd just be overtuned if not for Variable Stance which makes them completely broken though, since their only good option up close is WA and most of their gumbind combos take multiple hits or setup outside of Specials. Break isn't great either, but it's unique due to being a projectile. And yeah, Bolt Slash isn't too bad. Main thing to do against this weapon is guard, since they excel at catching movement and countering but lack guaranteed guard break setups (at least after the nerf/bugfix to VSBA)

Thinking about it more, it might be safe to say that most weapons rely on their Special at this point? A lot of them have turned into 1-sided win buttons over time while the base movesets have been neglected. I don't think a lot of players even know what their weapon's moveset does outside of the funny icons in the bottom right

>>2583266
Just wait until you see how long Razor Edge holds the opponent's bubble in place when it hits guard, or how much damage Super Strength Strike does on direct hit. Don't worry though, they made sure to needlessly buff Charging Slash and Power Buster again before the end too. Lab can let people survive the skateboard 1-shot even though it ignores damage reductions too, so trust me; you haven't even seen the worst of it.

Anyway, sorry for the spam. Many weapon thoughts

Actually, I started watching the anime myself. Found a playlist on YouTube compiled from a variety of sources. The 63 episodes suggested by GungHo as "required viewing material" is thankfully all uploaded by the same person. Now, er, I get that this is all redundant because GungHo itself will be uploading the episodes once more to the official PlayNinjala YT Channel, and not to mention that one of very own /gum/mies here has been compiling a safe archive themselves. Anyway...

Starting 2 days ago, I have already made it to Episode 4. As someone who has been slowly returning to anime after spending several years away from it, I have to say I am quite enjoying myself! Perhaps my enjoyment stems from being a big fan of the source material (funny to say this now that the anime itself has become the source material), but I am finding the Ninjala anime to be an enjoyable experience so far. As an Anon mentioned earlier in the thread, the studio utilised some of the first few episodes to rework the original webisodes GungHo released on YT to promote the game (namely, 3-D Episode 0 and the "Cartoon Anime"), meaning everyone who watches the anime will not be missing any context from the now redacted content.

The series is childish. Undoubtedly so. But, it is very cute, and I find the beans' antics amusing. The first time we see Burton and Berecca bean-ified is adorable. The producers did a good job on making the series feel like an in-depth look into Ninjala's world as established in the game, complete with a jazzy score befitting Eagle City among other references. Also I found it funny that the first few scenes we see after the prelude give the viewers Adult Burton foot shots. The fetishistic biGODS of GungHo have done it again.

LET'S GOOOOOOO. This one update somehow confirmed a bunch of stuff that I have been waiting for lol.
>true dedicated Photo Mode, including inner and outer cameras and Burst Shot
NUMBER ONE THING THAT I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR.
>Main Eight are back with visual updates to their original designs
Lucy looks SO pretty with the twisting locks added to her twintails and the new detailed textures on her outfit. Looking at her again, she has her midriff exposed this time. Not quite a brand new design, but a little more than just higher resolution textures. Perhaps all eight will have a little extra sauce added to their appearances. Maybe Kappei will finally have his scar visible in-game...
>Katana Type-C Gum Weapons finally have proper whipping animations
Scrap Sabre looks like it is breaking apart on each swing. Awesome
>gummy beans are softer and squishier than ever before
Most important detail revealed.
Crazy what one might find out on a Saturday evening. Will the Main Eight be unique NPCs who part of the game's narrative, or, did GungHo create a sample avatar named after and designed to look like Lucy? Time will tell, I suppose. The bo staff/polearm is going to be sick. Great choice for the universe, and surprisingly less cartoony looking than previous Gum Weapons. Seemingly, the polearm is not themed after food, toys, sports, or music. There are the "Japanese culture"-inspired weapons, but, that much is a little more understandable. Anyway, there was always a diverse list of inspiration for the GWs, and most of 'em look silly which fits the style of Ninjala well.

>>
>>2592806
>Balance
What? Why the fuck you want "balance" when is PvE? Remember what happened to Helldivers 2, people was having fun then the devs decided to nerf all the fun weapons and people exploded in rage.
>>
>>2592782
I think it's the right next move, but I don't know about focusing on it forever. Ninjala 1 was really barebones for most of its life, but the gameplay was fun. They definitely needed some PvE and story stuff to get people invested in the series, so after the first game's failure to catch on this was the logical next step. However, the gameplay looks completely different so I don't think it'll scratch that same itch as the first game. So while this is a necessary atep and I'm sure I'll enjoy it, I hope they go back to PvP at some point too.
>>
>>2592849
Balance is still necessary in PvE, it's just that the balance only needs to focus on making it fun for one side rather than both so it's harder to mess up

>Instead of continuing combo for a kill, he decided to use a Barrier and fail.
Is this ninja for real?
>>
>>2593018
People don't even realize ninjutsu give less points in modes where that matters, and they think Barrier is just for the explosion at the end instead of being invincible for over 10 seconds. I really wish this mode wasn't the ninjutsu training wheels mode so they'd have a reason to think about when to press that button
>>
>>2593041
Don't forget that originally Barrier did absolutely fuckall damage, in line with its design of being a purely defensive jutsu. But people bitched that it didn't do damage and now it deals about the same as a Tornado.
>>
>>2593059
Fucking GungHo. If they wanted to boost the damage then it should at least no longer apply to teammates
>>
>>2593084
They should not have boosted the damage, period. It runs counter to the design of the jutsu in the first place, which means that idiots end up misusing it as an easily dodgeable burst of damage instead of basically invulnerability.

>>
>>2593275
If you're comparing their slump by attributing it to competitive players. Ninjala's breakdown didn't come from the players getting "too good" and "too competitive", at it's base it comes from GungHo's gross mishandling of the game. Ninjala's players didn't get too competitive, GungHo made a poorly managed game, and later on with the P2W added a sink where people could pour money to get "better" at the game, it kinda creates a sunk cost fallacy with those people. They don't comprise all the people that stuck around but they do make a decent chunk.
Splatoon has had a competitive scene from the beginning and is at least better managed in terms of the ground-up desing and its balance. Splatoon being insufferable right now is mostly a result of it being 4 years old and having a larger comp playerbase.
Both games can get real insufferable and unfun but they get insufferable and unfun from different underlying causes.

Oh yeah, that cutie with the "Booster Tails". That hairstyle sharing the exact same name for upwards of 2 years with Lucy's Twin Ponytails before GungHo finally noticed and changed it was a strange circumstance. In fact, the developers randomly changed the names of several items without any warning over time, many of which were objectively worse...
>Makes me a bit worried the Kappei hair will have changed
The one good change the devs could make for this hairstyle is if they finally separated Kappei's backwards Kap from the hairstyle and turned it into a headgear. Why the hairstyle and hat were not implemented that way in the first place perplexes me.

Using "the power of the Nintendo Switch 2..." I cannot WAIT to see how gummy and adorable each of them will look. Here is hoping the remaining 7 will receive small visual twists and updates the same way that Lucy Goosey did.
>>
I hope we get some of the collab clothes back in Ninjala 2, I wanna keep my Kamura armor.
>>
>>2596187
I'd really like for them to keep the collab items too but that's a complicated thing. For one the licenses would need to be renewed, or new terms would need to be set. The other one is that a lot of the franchises aren't all that relevant anymore. JJK and Tokyo Revengers already ended, KnY has one movie left, MH Rise is no longer the newest MH, dunno when the next Eva or Ruroni Kenshin milestones are but they might take a while.
We're between a rock and a hard place, all of us that rely on collab items.
>>
>>2595760
Honestly, I never noticed they changed them. Did Lazy Bum got fixed though, and various other silent changes. Wonder if that was just the localization team's doing. For the Kappei hair, I just hope I can get the hatless look with that same minty shade of green I always use. If not, I'm going to have to go looking for a replacement

>>2596187
Unfortunately, those are probably the least likely items to come back. Guess we'd better start hoping for a Rise 2 now
>>
>>2596692
If Lucy is coming back then it's most likely the rest of the main 8 do return. So kappei hair is probably a guarantee. No reason for them to take colors away either, and the job's already done to port the regular hair over without the cap. Chances are it's going to return unchanged.

I don't care, as long as there's some form of playstyle customization then there should still be some things worth discovering. If people want to focus on killing monsters faster instead of fun that's their problem. Same deal as monhun; I'm not a speedrunner and have no desire to be, so just give me more ways to enjoy the game. Never really cared about any of those explanations being relevant either, I'd make tutorial videos or something if I did. They're all ephemeral anyway since I just type them up each time and they disappear into the void afterward. Besides that, Ninjala 2 doesn't have PvP so I suspect some people will go back to Ninjala 1 once they're done with the PvE content. I certainly plan to keep doing Turf Match whenever it shows up

>Anon does not want to hear about Baaton being the head researcher employed by the WNA to develop Ninja-Gum

For shame, Anon, for shame. This is our culture! Written into DNA by the great GungHo shinobi gods! You must accept this gospel into your life if you are to ever be adequately prepared for Ninjala 2 and beyond. You did it once, and now, you shall do so again...
Schizophrenic rambling disguised as comedy aside, I do not disagree with you. The first few episodes of the anime were seemingly used to rework all of the lore from the original webisodes into what is now Ninjala's definitive narrative. My hope is that the series stablizes after clearing up the mess made in Ninjala's early days.

Which brings up a new question: How the heck will Ninjala 2 fit into the overall narrative of the series? The anime extends far beyond Episode 63. Will the events of 'The Uncharted Planet' simply "recontexualize" or "fill in the gaps" between Ep.63 and the events that transpire thereafter? A scenario perhaps comparable to Star Wars?
>>
Didn't one of Ninjala 1's story mode missions was basically a test run for a PvE mode? I think it was the Lucy's one?
>>
>>2605416
All of them were PvE to some extent, with enemies and a boss. How you progressed through the stage is what changed for each one
>>
>>2605159
It might not take directly after episode 63; rather, it might just be that the first 63 episodes are needed for basic worldbuilding and you need them to have a good idea of what Ninjala even is. It might end up being a time skip or something
>>
>>2605416
Damn, speaking of the story modes that they never finished.
Aside from being PvE they also had mechanics that later went on to PvP, shame they never got to bring them all.
The Turfs capture zones and the Man to Man arena were both from the Berecca epidode. The Van episode had the buses, that could've been like an attack/defend thing. And the Lucy episode also had some defensible objectives but that was better suited for PvE. I do not remember a single fucking thing about the Burton episode so i won't comment on it.
Man if they finished those we could've gotten more than one PvP gamemode that's actually worth playing. They can at least retool the Van/Lucy objectives for the PvE sequel at least.

>>2605416
Wait a second... You just reminded me that I bought Lucy's story and never got round to playing it

Why is this tweet the most popular thing to come from Ninjala in ages

>I can say this now because the statute of limitations has expired, but when the PR team heard that "Ninjala 2 is an open world where you can explore as freely as you want, completely ignoring the established routes," they asked, "So, can we sneak into the boss's room through the back door and steal the treasure chests without engaging in any battles?" The development team looked at them with a disgusted expression and refused to work with them after that.

>>2606058
Burton episode was skateboarding around a course, the PvP was having people speedrun it for prizes on social media. That episode also introduced Bruce to the game's canon. The anime actually introduced a new game mode idea I'd have liked to see too, although I'm sure GungHo would have found some way to ruin all of these before they let anyone play them
>>
>>2605639
>it might just be that the first 63 episodes are needed for basic worldbuilding
That makes enough sense. In this regard, I think the anime has done a wonderful job from what I have seen of it so far. GungHo using the anime for an in-depth look at daily life in the world of Ninjala and the way of the shinobi, coupled with how stinking cute the gummy beans are, is helping me to realize why I fell in love with the IP in the first place.

>>2608192
>The development team looked at them with a disgusted expression and refused to work with them after that
UNFATHOMABLY BASED. What this tweet hopefully translates to in terms of gameplay is: "Ninjala 2 exhibits a large open-world that players can explore at their own pace, however, there will be areas where limits will be imposed onto them in order to test their abilities." In other words, avoiding something like Aonuma/Fujibayashi's """""""freedom-focused"""""""" Nu-Zelda open world garbage.

First of all, those are major points, but also the entire aesthetic? The colorful urban street setting? The character designs? The logos? The cover art? Everything about it is trying to be Splatoon but with ninjas instead of squids. I don’t even hate Ninjala, and I’m happy people enjoy it, but it’s just silly to pretend it’s not painfully obviously a Splatoon clone.
>>
>>2608708
It's certainly an 'aesthetic' clone of sorts, but not really when it comes to gameplay. In that case, Foamstars would be more of a Splatoon clone, considering the foam = ink equivalency with how it covers the stage and affects movement.
Ninja gum on the other hand is basically a power gauge that you use to shoot, boost or block.
>>
>>2593299
They both make me coom
>>
>>2608708
The goop doesn't even work the same way, nor is it presented as such. Ninjala usually has characters blowing bubbles, crafting weapons, or spitting gum at one another; generally using gum constructs to enhance their fighting ability, while ink in Splatoon is always shown as paint that gets spread everywhere and acts as a stand-in for water for the cephs to swim in; if anything, they even seem like they ARE the ink sometimes. Those squids aren't necessarily kids either.

The aesthetic isn't that similar. They're just vaguely urban with bright colors, and Ninjala has many more areas than just Eagle City. Splatoon also has the underwater aesthetic going for it, along with incorporating junk from a past era while Ninjala has ninjas and a wide variety of sub-aesthetics besides that. The cover arts have kids battling, but they are battling in completely different ways as mentioned above. The logos are both just fonts with big cartoonish letters and some features of a character present, hardly unique to either game. These are all superficial. I'm not sure how you can even call the character designs similar when inklings have distinct features like the tentacle hair, mask, and lack of hairstyle variation.

We know the devs did like Splatoon, but Ninjala is not trying to be Splatoon. They have outright said that the games are completely different when asked about this, and I wouldn't be surprised if the constant comparisons by people who have never tried Ninjala are why they're making the aesthetics even more distinct in 2. If you looked at the actual gameplay, the most important part of a game, for less than a minute you would see how different they are. Even if those few aesthetic similarities held up, that would not make an arena brawler with aerial battles where you use gum as a weapon the clone of a shooter where you paint the ground to expand what parts of the map you can move through.
>>
>>2608682
It either means that, or the devs didn't think about it and now they have to worry about players doing that. Between this and the crafting/cooking, I'm getting kind of worried that this really will just be BotW: Ninjala edition. That first gameplay preview can't come soon enough

>>2608791
That's the most important thing
>>
>>2609042
>crafting/cooking
GOD.
DAMN IT.
PLEASE do not ruin Ninjala by turning it into "Blow of the Bubble" or some nonsense lmao. Too early to tell, too soon to say. No need to catastrophize before anything is confirmed, although, cooking and crafting already being confirmed elements for Ninjala 2 already has me rolling my eyes.

>>2608791
You said that and then I thought about them all getting tentacle'd, so, maybe you are onto something there,
>>
>>2605159
I'm fine with the generic recap, but it does feel like nothing really happens and it's continually weird how other people have ninja gum for some reason.
Combine that with the two being "we broke and hungry" at the start and end and it is rough.

>a bigger, better Nintendo Switch that improves upon the original in almost every capacity
Should none of these points appeal to you, then there truly is no point in investing in an NS2. Better to be honest about it.

I mean it's not like there's NO other Nintendo games I'm interested in. If I could swing it I could.
But I've decided to invest more into PC, and happened to do so at the best time before all the price hiking started. So I got a Steamdeck instead of a Switch 2, which I don't regret whatsoever.
But I really can't justify another $500 system along with $60+ for any new game I want to get.

More new footage, looks like freezing is an elemental effect you can activate? From the previous footage >>2590913, every red weapon had red hit effects and every blue weapon had blue hit effects. Maybe weapon color corresponds with weapon element? There's a gauge that fills for ice element on-hit in addition to the freeze prompt, so maybe you can force elemental blights using your own meter while they'll also fill up naturally as you attack? Also some gum grapple combo that occurs after the gum damage bar on the enemy fills up. Definitely safe to say the combat has been completely reworked for PvE now

>>2610996
>>2611157
>>2611207
I wouldn't say it's worth getting right now, to be honest. Maybe that'll change in a year though. Steam Deck is definitely better hardware in terms of inputs and functionality, but it is getting up there in years and it can't handle some games that could be optimized to run on the Switch 2. On the other hand, speakers on the bottom is awful unless you only play docked and Nintendo hardware is always going to be more limited than a handheld PC
>>
>>2611585
I've gotten MUCH more backlog gaming done thanks to the Steam Deck. Both in terms of actual PC games and emulated ones. Really the only game I have that doesn't run well on it in MHWilds.
Honestly it's more likely that Switch 2 emulation gets going well enough that I can just play games on my decent PC before getting one proper becomes feasible.

I played a few things on the Switch 1, but for the last few years It's just been gathering dust, so maybe my interest died a little.
There's also the issue of the economy, to have the Switch 2, and enough games to make it worth having, that would cost over £500, which I really can't afford currently. But even if I had it all for free right now, I think I'd be bored with it after a month. The magic of Nintendo feels a little dead for me.
The only scenario I can think of to make it appealing again is for me to living comfortably, with a lot of spending money and free time, with a good gaming set-up where I can have multiple monitors so I still have the convenience of having everything in one comfy place. But I don't see this happening any time soon. Maybe this is true for a lot of people, life just isn't comfy right now.
>>
>>2612757
Well, to be fair, i got mine out from a good deal that I will pay in a 12 months plan WITHOUT INTEREST.
>>
>>2612664
Ninjala is literally the only online game I play on my modded switch because it doesn't need NSO crap.
And I got a switch specifically because it supports the fusée gelée exploit. Ninjala was a nice bonus, I have to juggle dual-booting with CFW but it works.

Also, when Switch 1 was out it was an actually compelling system: we didn't have Decks or ROG Allys back then, early on the online was free, it had a shit ton of ports (some good, some shit) and some unique games for it thanks to the joycons. Sw2 in comparison is booooooooooring.
>>
>>2612664
I own a Switch 2, but Ninjala was one of the only games I played on Switch 1 and playing it with a better controller and without performance issues was my main reason for getting a Switch 2. Seems like Switch 2 is a better deal for people who haven't been playing Switch 1 games this whole time, since they wouldn't have gotten to try those games yet and the Switch 2 library on its own is currently a bit barren. Also, this thread will probably be up for like half a week or so even though we hit bump limit. /vm/ is a comfy board

>>2612757
I think you hit the nail on the head there, a lot of people are having a rough time right now. I make a decent amount of money and it's still rough for me despite that. World's just not in a good place and people can't afford the time or money for that kind of luxury
>>
>>2613894
>Seems like Switch 2 is a better deal for people who haven't been playing Switch 1
Sorry but this is BS, after getting a Switch 2 I finally realized I was playing like a caveman for years with my Switch 1.
>>
>>2613960
I mean true, and I realized that with the Steam Deck myself, but haven't you already played most of your Switch 1 games? I'm just saying people who haven't played them yet would have a better experience with them on Switch 2, and a big backlog compared to people who have already played all those games
>>
>>2612664
I got a Switch 1 because I had a real old PC at the time and didn't trust doing any serious gaming on it. Also a reason why I got a PS4 at the time despite getting like, less than 10 games for it, literally every one I could get on PC, and barely using it in the long run.
That, combined with getting a better PC, made me realize that the limitations of consoles just make them a far worse investment in the long-term which I have to think about because I don't have the funds to just make big purchases like that just to play 2 or 3 games.

Yo-yo Leap is what makes it work; you can use that for Master of Change sniping from a very safe distance, catching people after escaping parries, or wasting their bursts with recalls. Lots of neat little setups and combos you can do with recalls and Searcher too, webm related. Having that extra hit at long range really opens up a lot of possibilities. Now if only it had some way to IPPON without relying on other people's parries, break reads, or card effects.
