On Sunday at 3:00PM EST we will be doing our annual Deep run! I will be giving out store codes, additionally I will be dropping valuable items on the ground throughout the run.

There will be 3 different categories you can try for to win a store code:

1) Top DPS
2) Most creative build (voted by officers)
3) Most effective build (voted by players in attendance)

Please try and bring more creative builds this time, the judges were very dissapointed by last weeks showing of mostly meta builds.

These are the builds we're currently playing for HA, we're having a lot of fun on these builds so we might just run this for rest of festival but if people are interested maybe we'll swap to a modern balanced set up on the last few days of festival.

Also as a reminder this thread I will be posting images with hidden store codes for the remainder of this festival, if you find one please reply to the post with picture confirmation you claimed the code. I would additionally appreciate if people post more GW1 pictures this thread to help disguise when I post pictures with codes in them.

>>2408960
I may find one, but I'm not going to post if I don't claim it.
>>
Factions is shit and I am tired of pretending it is not.
>>
I like factions the most
>>
Warrior dagger, Ranger dagger, .. all plays the same as sin dagger to the point where I don't know what the point is just doing the same thing on multiple professions
but Warrior Scythe plays differently enough from Derv Scythe that I think it's warranted playing both.
>>
>>2407416
>>2409070
>>
>>2409132
The point is to have a high damage build on a profession you're already playing. It's not trying to answer the question of which profession to play daggers with, but rather what weapon do I use on X profession for big damage.
>>
>>2409050
when were you pretending, you bitch about factions every day
>>
I sold a name for hundreds of armbraces!
And yet still not enough for the zaishen title...
>>
>>2408773
I don't dislike it that much because it isn't bullshitty, you just need be able to pull smartly. It's not easy, especially the room where you have to be really careful not to aggro about half a dozen elementalists at once and get your entire party lmao'd in one big fireball.

Gyala Hatchery can fuck right off. If it wasn't for the exploit path I would just end my Factions campaigns there. The NPC behavior actually works well in that case except it's entirely to your detriment, because the hatchling turtles are literally coughing babies and since they're the weakest, the enemies ignore everything you're doing and beeline for them. I hate this mission done the intended way because it's just defending constant zerg rush where if you don't body block with perfect awareness for 20 minutes, you are fucked. That mission was just designed to frustrate players.
>>
>>2409181
I know, but it's boring playing the same thing on every bar no matter which prof you're playing.
For scythe, profs will play differently, with Dervish doing enchants and teardowns, or stacking enchants that deal damage aoe per swing.
Warriors mainly doing adrenal scythe attacks while unenchanted (or just receiving enchants from party members that they're not tearing down), mainly using tactics skills to build adrenaline, and having access to things like protector's strike for a spike.
and Assassin scythe builds tend to be using things like Grenth's Aura to bypass Shadow Form damage cap.
Each is a distinct enough playstyle to keep it interesting.

how am i supposed to invent some kind of high dps build nobody heard of by sunday
>>
>>2410077
consider all the skills that have been buffed since reforged started, metas haven't been updated for years so there's bound to be some builds that have good damage that are not known right now.
>>
>>2409424
It's used up. But what was it?
>>
>>2410077
who said anything about inventing a high DPS build? If you want to compete in the DPS category I wish you the best of luck, but considering last week the top 3 DPS were less than 10k off from each other you're in for a tough time.

Creative build category was like #6 for DPS he just had a build we thought was cool. The effective build category basically won by default because it was curse necro in a physical heavy party and nobody else played a serious supportive role.

>>
>>2414407

>>
>>2414419

>>
>>2414429
The story doesn't come around back to directly saving Ascalon if that's what you're asking. The Flameseeker Prophecies do not concern the fate of Ascalon, only foretell the destruction as a catalyst. Honestly, the plot can be a little confusing, so it's sometimes helpful to talk to the mission info guys in every mission outpost. They tell you exactly what's happening.
There IS a quest named The Last Day Dawns which sees you return to Ascalon to help out Adelbern, but I won't say more because it's a spoiler. Just ask us about the post-Prophecies quest chain when you finish because it's not immediately obvious that it exists. And prepare your anus in advance because it's going to get destroyed.
The charr do obviously feature prominently in the GW2-tie-in Eye of the North though since they have to set them up to be included in GW2.
>>
>>>/r9k/84474729
They don't care!
>>
>>2414466
I seee, thx
>>
>>2414466
it does tie in, because the Titans
are the "New gods" for the Charr, and all over the northlands there are Titan Effiges. It's touched on again in Nightfall in the Realm of Torment, and EotN has a quest tying into the Titans and then the whole Charr Civil War started by Vvatlaw Doomtooth's son, which that name is the name of the scout who first is encountered in Presearing Ascalon.
it's kind of an interesting relationship, in which the Charr rebels make it known in no certain terms that their alliance with you is temporary and only used to get an advantage against the Shaman caste and their "new" "new gods", the destroyers

They have no regrets about taking Ascalon, they consider it their homeland that humans usurped.
They only have qualms about serving beings as gods who are not actually gods

Assuming you're still working at Ascension, this is what you might have missed out in the world up to that point. The Prophecies are well known but poorly understood.
>>
>>2414494
I'm not saying the Flameseeker Prophecies do not tie in to the story of Ascalon. As I've said, it was the catalyst for the events, and you can consider the resolution of the Prophecies coming full circle, e.g. the effigies. However, the Prophecy itself does not concern the ultimate fate of Ascalon.
>>
>>2413514
really when I think about it, while warrior dagger feels pointless because hammers and scythes are way more fun and still effective.
Ranger dagger is worthwhile because bows fucking suck, and since expertise makes 5 energy skills cost 2 energy and unlike scythe and hammer all dagger attacks are energy.. ranger's the best fit for them aside from primary assassins.

yeah so.. I need to get me some good daggers for my ranger now, I almost regret customizing my glacial blades on my assassin as soon as I realized I had Q9 glacial blades.. but they look so good I just went for it, despite my assassin already having a decent pair of crescent blades.
I was thinking just buy another set but then I see people selling Q12 glacial blades for 55A so nope I think I'm priced out.
Warrior I'll want a nice scythe I think I've been having fun with scythe warrior, hammer warrior, dagger ranger, and hammer monk.
It's a shame they gave ranger a sword rather than daggers. Sword fucking sucks.
all I really do with it is run a beastmaster build while autoattacking and using sun and moon slash.
Maybe I need to throw a lot into tactics since I have to use a tactics shield anyway.

But as of now I just think.. go daggers for ranger.

dwarven stability requires cons (which the issue isn't really cost, it's the jank of opening up your inventory to get drunk again before hitting the spell) and doesn't make lightning reflexes sustainable, you'd have downtime, not to mention disenchanting.
protector's strike is strength, this is a ranger sir.
the headbutt is mainly to have a knockdown and then be able to use on your knees to recharge lightning reflexes. In testing it does work, so you keep up blocking and IAS indefinitely.
Sun and Moon Slash is one of the things I thought about, if I wasn't trying to maintain Lightning Reflexes. I don't think Dwarven Stability is enough for it.
If I was going to use booze, I'd just do drunken master, IAU, TaO, and still use antidote signet to deal with blindness, with Soldier's Strike, Thrill of Victory, Sun and Moon Slash and .. I dunno, Riposte maybe, wouldn't block everything but I could get in some critical blocks maybe.
>>
>>2418328
Scan wouldn't really be necessary as Soldier's Strike and Sun and Moon Slash are unblockable. So you'd just need to account for blindness (and miss hexes but nothing a ranger or warrior can do about that)
>>
>>2418328
>protector's strike is strength, this is a ranger sir.

>>
>>2420679
I prefer vanquishing I've seen people try to do a few speedrunner tactics before in deep and in the effort of saving 5 seconds it just causes a group wipes in areas where a group wipe doesn't normally happen.

That said - recalls and ymlad are optional. If people wanna bring recall I'm cool with it but I won't tell anyone to stick it on their bars. Same with ymlad but depending how many KD skills people bring I might request 1-2 people put it on their bars to make things go smoother.

If you've done deep like 40 times, yeah. But for people new to deep I don't really think the experience of rushing through the dungeon as fast as possible while their builds with minimal AoE damage barely get a chance to do anything is all that fun. I like to enjoy the encounters and move at a chill pace rather than you either leave your loot behind or you get left behind.

Yeah I'm perfectly fine with speedclears as a concept so long as everyone agrees but that's often the worst part about pug groups. You will have people who either normally play with speedclears, or people who have a very "rough" idea of the tactics on how those teams work, so they will rush ahead and try to do speedclear tactics, meanwhile main group is struggling to keep up with them, and then a wipe happens, often times the person doing the speedclear mechanics isn't even aware of why they work or they don't realize that without a dedicated team with specifically coordinated builds their strategies don't work and it's a wipe.

Overall I always prefer to do normal vanquishes, not as fun, but it's a better overall experience for everyone in the party and it allows for more freedom for running weird shit.

Though I would like to learn the SoO speedclear at some point, I think that could be fun if we can set up a dedicated tank/gate role.

I don't buy the cons/pcons rationale, they last half an hour, speed clears are trying to clear each floor of a dungeon in about 3 minutes.
if you want your value out of your cons and pcons you'd actually want to get some other chests/LoD spawns to get as much value out of that half an hour as possible.

Is mesmer a good profession for soloing stuff with heroes/henchmen or is it more for PvP?
>>
>>2424124
mesmer is very powerful in both PvE and PvP it's a top tier option, I will say though as a forewarning, I don't think it's a very new player friendly class. As an experienced player I see a group of enemies and I can immediately pick out "ah that enemy is a necro which means he'll have a lot of 1-2 sec spells I can rupt", or immediately clocking the grawl ulodyte as a monk. Additionally you have to carefully read your skills and understand how they work which can be a lot for example Power Spike can interrupt a SPELL, while Cry of Frustration can interrupt a SKILL.

I'd recommend mesmer as 2nd or 3rd character you make if you're interested, it can be fun to play.

>>
>>2426384
Most meme elites tend to preform better in PvP, or they require an investment into an attribute. It's hard to run mist form as a warrior after all.

Any class where you don't need to heavily invest in their primary attribute is theoretically fine, doubly so if it comes with it's own form of energy management. But hypothetically, what elites are you looking at? Can't really recommend resto rit if you plan to run something like Flourish.

wtf.. do enemies in consulate docks have ridiculously high armor vs lightning or something?

I know there's a lot of heavies and rangers but this is ridiculous.
>>
>>2426911
The rangers have 100 armor vs lightning
>>
>>2427471
yeah but I was doing less damage there than I was against 140 armor vs lightning destroyers. There I was getting like 70% of normal damage
here it was like 30%.

I'm thinking it was Zealots I was noticing, they have veil of thorns and armor of sanctity, so yeah I was hitting for like 40 damage and if I had a condition I was hitting them for the teens or 20's must have been what caught my attention "hang on why is my damage so SHIT"
>>
>>2427507
That'd do it. Cause actually even on 100 ar, cracked armor+25% pen would hit an effective 60 ar, and spells would do listed damage if you're 20. Any damage reduction is coming from skills, since it's only the paragons there that have higher ar at 101, which would be hardly noticeable

if you're playing with NPC's it doesn't matter what kind of defensive skills you use the NPC AI will still cause them to drop what they're doing and run away trying to "kite"
a blinded, weakened, burning melee currently affected by wandering eye will still cause a caster hero to drop everything and run, even while the hero is affected by shelter, union, displacement, "there is nothing to fear!" "they're on fire!" and "save yourselves!" IE that melee enemy won't hit them or even if they do it'll be a wet noodle... but they still script to run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
>>
>>2428446
you might, but I've noticed a lot of people who start playing GW as new players they get to the shiverpeaks maybe, insisting they want to play through the story, and they just get bored and quit the game.
I'd tell them to try a different campaign maybe, but other anons always hammer into them that they MUST do proph first.

Maybe try something that isn't mesmerway meta then? Maybe more ST and more interrupts isn't the solution.
You're obviously quite aware that it's being attacked that is causing them to scatter and not the direct damage, yet you do nothing to prevent that.
Ward Against Melee? Grasping Earth? Shadow of Fear? Return? Shared Burden? Crippling Anthem?
No, the solution must be Soul Twisting because PvX said so and I have severe, debilitating autism.

>>
>>2428476
they can be affected by all that, it won't matter, the aggro system of this game will make melee enemies chase casters with base 60 armor rather than something with 70+ base armor.
the problem is the scripting, not any of the skills.
Player groups are better at doing things like using spells on an enemy group just outside of aggro range, and even if they do get aggro, a player will run up to the tank/melee (and let's not forget that heroes can't play melee effectively).. a hero or hench will run aimlessly (even pulling more groups)
>>
>>2428478
dude was thinking nightfall, I'd say go for it, maybe he'll like it, or factions, maybe he'll like it
I don't like factions cause of how much escort quest it is and I prefer proph but maybe someone else will like it, because it's short and the time to hit max level is brief. Or maybe they just like Asian themed stories I dunno.
I just think if someone buys the complete game all campaigns, try them all before just quitting.
>>
>>2428501
There's nothing wrong with melees picking soft target. That's not a "problem", that's just the game.
That's why we have the tools we do to mitigate the threat, whether it be by reducing the damage dealt/taken, snaring, etc.

>>2428524
I'm saying that even with all those tools, the behavior is the same and that's the part that a person can be frustrated with, with the original comment you're responding to that I'm referring back to being:

>melee classes are pretty ass to play and to make them fun you require some highly specific setups and balling autism otherwise you are just chasing headless chickens going after your squishy party members
You're saying that issue "chasing headless chickens" is solved by bringing defensive skills.
I'm disagreeing that the defensive skills solve the problem of caster AI's running when attacked. They still run, even if the threat is practically 0 because of all the defensive skills you've brought.
When I play HR my heroes still scatter and run when melee gets on them, even though the melee are practically rendered useless by all the defense an HR, an ST, and an Illusion mesmer bring to the table (which includes shared burden since AI is bad at using ineptitude appropriately)
They still run.
That's just as you said "the game"
all you can do is make it so that those normally squishy bots survive, but for a melee player they'll still be chasing scattered enemies.
The solution there isn't "bring defensive skills" it's "learn to use terrain to body block"
>>
>>2428552

I think a big gap in our experiences might be the type of content we do using heroes.
You come at it from like normal mode prophecies missions/questing which yeah, heroes trivialize and you can steamroll with anything
I'm coming at it from hard mode dungeons or vanquishing where you have stacked groups of eles or mesmers that chain blind or hex to where your group simply doesn't have enough ways to clear it all. You got 4 skeletal wizards in that pack each with 2 ways to cause blindness. Antidote signet isn't touching that.
You've got 6 wind riders that stack you with soothing images, crippling anguish, and covering with conjure phantasm while hitting your support characters with shame.
I don't think there's any group makeup that has enough hex removal to keep all that off a melee player, while letting the melee player actually hit things. The best a melee player can do is divebomb the group, get all the hexes and have their mesmers kill the group in 4s nuking the hexes. The melee player still didn't get to do anything aside from being bait. Is that fun?
>>
>>2428382
If you're playing with hero's you either need to precast shelter (it's a single click, you can even keybind it) before going into combat, or you need to preprot yourself with bonds, or you need to run a skill that increases your armor. Otherwise you are a 60 armor ele running at enemies who will 2 shot you.

To be fair I would accept literally any answer other than "gwpvx beginner guide" because I'm fairly certain that's the same guide redditors and co point to, to try and "help" new players by teaching them how to set up an esurge team as fast as possible so you can run 4 dom mesmers (they turn the ele's and necros into /Me for dom) to instant murder level 10 enemies.

In general we recommend starting with proph because it's better paced, doesn't overwhelm you with mechanics, and starting with proph allows you to unlock skills for when you eventually unlock hero's in NF. Trying to build heroes when you have 0 gold, 0 skills, and 0 outposts unlocked is difficult. But I'll never tell anyone not to play NF if they wanna play with hero's.

just to preface, I like proph, even though it meanders around a lot, I get that it's just nostalgia for me so I'm not gonna press that on anyone else...
but I'd say proph's weakest aspect is its pacing. The Kryta and Maguuma jungle sections just seem to drag on in particular, and I think anet learned from that in factions and nightfall by not ever having you trek through multiple explorable zones in a row to find the next mission. That rarely happens anyway. Senji's Corner to Tahnnakai Temple, and getting to the second mission in Echovald Forest/Jade Sea is the only ones in factions. Nightfall I think there's never going from zone to zone without at least an outpost between except the first part of Vabbi?
Factions is really briskly paced but kind of drops everything on you at once outside the tutorial mission of Cho's, and instead of introducing concepts organically they just put some plaques in Shing Jea Monastary for you to read and have some easy quests giving you a few skills for each concept.... that many people will just skip to their detriment.
I actually think Nightfall is kind of a sweet spot for pacing but with 1 fatal drawback that a lot of people hate the whole campaign for, and that's the rep/rank requirements. There's still that one issue where a lot of people will skip using the training ground that was set up to teach all these concepts, but there's more to Istan than Shing Jea for questing to learn things, and Istan even has a few mid level range areas with 8 man parties to cut your teeth on. Provided you don't go assault the garrisons as a noob, Kourna's not very difficult, and feels less like a difficulty jump than getting into Kaineng for the first time.
>>
>>2430255
>never seen it
so why are you talking about what "nobody ever says" if you don't know the #1 thing new gw players get told to follow or find on their own and follow
>>2430269
yeah that's what I mean
people tell new players to rush through the pre-endgame parts and get 7heroed, other people react by telling them to take it slow at all costs to savor the experience and serenity lies in the middle, with factions
>>
>>2430412
does the guide say "if you dont' like nightfall fuck off we don't want you playing our game anyway"?
>>
>>2430371
I guess pacing is the wrong term, I'm more referring to thoughtful game design, the campaign gives you skills and unlocks skill as you progress in a manner that makes sense, when you reach Kryta, you unlock Mantra of Lightning which helps you deal with the all the ele's that use lightning magic, or you unlock all this anti melee skills in an area with a large amount of melee. I think the experience of being able to explore and discover secret hidden outposts which have special skills you can only acquire from that outpost is a really cool experience unlike factions where all the skills in campaign can be acquired after the 2nd mission, or NF where there's only 3/4~ outposts which have unique skill trainers.

I also think it's a better experience for nightfall to have played prophecies, played factions, and go into nightfall with at least 2-4 characters worth of skills already unlocked. That way when you unlock hero's of a profession you've played in the past, you know how they work and what you can do with them. More freedom and more options in build craft is great and less intimidating than "here's 4 hero's who's classes you've never played before, your budget is 200 gold and 4 tanned squares".
>>
>>2430423
you know what website you're on?

>>
>>2430269
>because it's better paced
it is a massive fucking slog
>doesn't overwhelm you with mechanics
even the most retarded zoomie playing his first video game can handle all the mechanics this game offers
>starting with proph allows you to unlock skills for when you eventually unlock hero's in NF
nightfall offers more than good enough skills for heroes and there is a good chance that when you get to vabbi you will get raped by that esurge lion boss and think to yourself holy shit get me that

inb4 i get called a zoomie or adhd for not wanting to do the slog that is prophecies
>>
>>2430458
I mean I get you, and I like just cruising through explorable zones and finding "hidden" outposts and shit too, but there's a lot of people who will see going slow through prophecies as spinning their wheels in the mud and dragging on they'll want to go mission to mission in pretty quick succession which is how factions and nightfall tend to be structured, with only a few "optional" outposts here and there that might have a new skill trainer, or in Nightfall's case in particular, the challenge mission outposts which I think in nightfall are more appealing to get some new drip for your heroes, vs factions which started them and yeah you can grind up kurzick and luxon rep at least in those, but the Dragon's Throat mission? I've never done it, I don't know if there's a point to it.
Nightfall also has the buried treasures and stuff I thought that was kind of a neat system.
I feel like, Proph they let get kind of long in the tooth, they kneejerked with factions and made it short and gated fucking everything to prevent runners skipping, and Nightfall they kinda harmonized it, making it relatively quick paced but at the same time giving you a little freedom to explore. Only gating at each major environmental zone, getting to kourna is gated, getting to vabbi is gated (outside of some cheese to get through sulfur without a wurm), getting through the desolation is gated, and getting into realm of torment is gated. But within Vabbi, it's all open to explore. Within Kourna it's all open to explore. You can get into the mission outposts as normal outposts before the quests take you there and turn them into missions.
I think it hit the sweet spot on everything...... except the rep gating, and required heroes.
EotN must have gotten feedback about the required heroes BS cause they just had the heroes talk in cutscenes without requiring their use, which I think helped.

Happy 21st anniversary everyone, thank you to everyone who came out and participated, whether it be the people who showed up to our annual Deep/Urgoz runs, people who tried out HA for the first time this festival, and to all the people who participated in the thread throughout the festival! A total of 14 store codes were given away this festival.

Of the 14 codes given away, 6 were posted directly to this thread hidden in images. Only 3 of which have been found, there are still 3 unclaimed store codes hiding in images in this thread (quite surprised they lasted this long, I didn't think I was that sneaky this year). That being said, you JUST missed the anniversary, which is when it's most active all year. There's probably going to be some downtime where we all recover from nolifing for two weeks.
There's going to be a "prog" of Nightfall in the coming months though, so you can look forward to that. Basically, we all create fresh characters and play through a campaign together without using any of our existing stuff.

GW has three separate and individual campaigns: Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. You can start with any of these three at any time. There is only one expansion: Eye of the North.
I would recommend starting with Prophecies and trying out different professions (classes) until you find one or many you like, then go from there. This game is based around party build composition where you will mix and match to create all sorts of different builds with up to 8 maximum skills at one time.
Post your IGN for a guild invite if you decide to play, and please ask us questions.

>Hammer Mesmer

Sometimes I think about a Mesmer loaded with Artificer's Insignias, a bunch of Signet, and Symbolic Strike.
>>
>>2432334
triple shot, dual shot, forked arrow, deft strike
>>
>>2432855
>5s knockdown with 5 renewing smashses
beautiful, but a little dicey on applying with both skills needing to interrupt, sig of clumsiness on skills with 1s activation times at the most 99% of the time.
most people wouldn't be able to be effective with that build, those who can though, it'd be pretty good.
shame there's no fast casting hammer.
>>
>>2432876
assuming you take a adrenaline boosting skill like "For Great Justice" and Mantra of Signets, you'll have +15 from insignias and +15 from Mantra of Signets for a total of +30 armor on top your your default 60 AR. Not bad.
Of course that leaves you literally auto attacking until you can Symbolic Strike.
>>
>>2432334
>>2432889
Forked doesn't work great with way of the master, which you are likely using. Keen arrow isn't bad to use. ST, crit agility, WotM, disrupting accuracy are pretty core. I like triple+dual, keen, and needling as my other 4.

I've still got a skill loss prog on my mind I think the ruleset would be something along the lines of every session we roll an 8 sided dice to determine which skill you lose for the rest of the prog and I'd keep a chart with all the lost skills. NF progs go around 10~ weeks, so you'd lose a total of 10 skills throughout the prog.
>>
>>2432921
some kind of build randomization
like go to the most recent skill trainer, count the skills they have for your profession and /roll for 2-3 that you have to keep on your bar next session
>>2432957
not aggressive enough imo, you can keep most builds going with 1 different skill
>>
>>2432992
Yeah I'm of that opinion too, but when suggested for the factions prog it got some pretty heavy pushback (which I'm not even totally convinced was real considering the assassin prog also got pushback, yet it had on average 11 people show up every week and was one of our most successful progs to date). It'd probably be something to discuss on week 1 of the prog if we end up doing it.
>>

You still have your signets. Should bring symbolic celerity over FGJ, honestly. Keystone, strength, unnatural, clumsiness, some of the interrupts. Distraction is really good there.
>>
>>2433009
After running something like 10+ progs I've noticed a trend that in progs where we have no rules there tends to be intense drop off around when players finally accomplish their dream build for the prog. I think a lot of people really enjoy the vertical progress/prog sections where individual actions have a lot of weight on the outcome of fights, where you are forced to work with sub optimal builds and the theory crafting weird shit to get over challenges, a good example of this is during proph progs when we do the beacons perch run to try and unlock an early elite, we spend 2 hours getting our asses handed to us by level 20 enemies while we're level 10 but it's absolute peak prog shenengians and weird strategies people always happy to do it, even run it multiple times.

NM proph/factions/nf are not difficult and any sentient party can easily clear it, doubly so if they're running anything even mildly meta relevant which makes for boring progs when you can run 3 missions and nobody dies, you don't struggle and it's just afk clearing enemies.

I think anyway we can artificially add difficulty, or a reason to be creative is good for the retention of prog members. People suggest sometimes to remove armor pieces, but that's not really artificial difficulty, that's just making the monk role miserable.
>>
>>2433007
>>2433009
>>2433087
being told "you can't use that, make something new" feels bad
being told "you have to make a build that uses these 2 skills, in attributes you might've never tried" is novel and enough constraint that you know what you need to do
it's what that tard keeps saying about nerfs but actually true
skill trainer /roll 2k26 get it trending
>>
>>2433141
Yeah I'm not opposed to it I've written it down as a potential idea for when we get closer to NF prog date.
>>
>>2433141
I think the 4/4 prog we did was pretty novel and not so limiting. I agree it's the "you can't use those skills" that I don't like.
>>
no pve skills is a good enough restriction
>>
>>2433304
nah people will run the same shit the whole time unless you prod em into changing
>>
>>2432910
keystone turns every signet into an attack as long as you can nail the interrupt.which, doesn't work that well in a hero group cause they'll get the interrupts faster than you (when they choose to interrupt), and you'd kinda need a human group tolerating you running kind of a meme build
>>
>>2433312
so.. this will be your first prog since they added Melandru mode right?

Why not just run that as the requirement for the prog?
>>
>>2433484
In a human only party melandru mode functionally is no different from how we have spent the last 4 years doing progs with the only key difference being if you get a Prodigy insignia as a Ranger, you can't give it to the Mesmer in your group which sucks.

If people want to enable it they can, but there's no requirement to do so.

An alternative idea for a prog I've toyed with is having a prog where the goal is to keep at least one person with Dhuum's Covenant alive until the end of the prog, but given the current issues with it I've put it off for now.
>>

pretty much it's "ironman" prog, we don't allow bank usage, rune trader, campaign travel (with some exceptions), and in general you are incentivized to only use skills that unlock from that point of the game. We've thought about banning the mat trader multiple times but ultimately I don't think it'll make for a better prog experience to give people homework to solo farm so they can afford/craft better armor. There will always be people who won't do it and having them eat dirt for multiple weeks in a row isn't fun for anyone.

>>2433556
>>2433603
They supposedly had plans for GW beyond to include stuff about post nightfall Joko's rise, and the fate of ascalon (not sure if that includes Foefire, or if it's just the journey to establish Ebonhawke) but they never got to it and all their plans got axed.

To me the GW beyond content would be perfect stuff for this studio to work on.

>>
>>2433646
that's fair I guess, I'd mostly limit the campaign travel and use of tomes more than anything.
Rune Trader ban is fine if you're only doing normal, if you were doing like HM DOA at the end of the prog or something like that I think you'd want people to have runes but as long as it's normal they're not necessary. Armor in those 2 campaigns at least comes pretty fast so they'd only need to farm after the first few days once for their max armor in Kaineng/Consulate Docks and not deal with it again unless they want drip.
So do you just honor system not using the bank?

On your second thing they did plan for a Palawa Joko GWB chapter. There was talk about Evennia's disappearance, the and the founding of Ebonhawke but I never heard of the Foefire before GW2.

Tomes are normally banned unless we're doing a 1 profession prog, campaign travel is tentatively banned in that you're not allowed to go to future campaigns to get skills. Sometimes I'm ok with people going from factions to proph to pick up skills but I encourage people to make bars of skills unique to the campaign we're in.

For post prog activities we usually just do NM stuff, but people are welcome to use rune trader by that point (though by that point in a non melandru party you've probably gotten most of the runes you wanted anyway).

And yep honor system, I don't really strictly enforce the rules as long as people are following the spirit of the prog, it's never really been a problem. The most I've had to do in the past is pull people aside when they join mid prog running a meta build like TaO daggers in a proph prog or etc...

MADC?
>>
>>2435602
Melandrus Accord Debilitating Cuck
>>
>>2435629
ah, hmm
well, Rit at the very least as a spirit spammer has relative safety to stay alive (using spirits as decoys to get away when a near wipe is happening), and weapon stats don't mean as much to a rit as spirit siphon is their energy management they don't need SR, or enchants, or HSR or HCT since binding rituals aren't spells.
only drawback with Melandru's is the shaman's insignias
>>
>>2435592
playing melee for a dhuum's is pretty ballsy, only having one campaign as a source for dervish-specific weapons and armor can also be pretty limiting
mesmer is the safest, just because you get to control the shutdown personally
>>
>>2435762
Mesmer would be my second choice of those 3, namely because unlike a Rit, if your team is wiping you can't just lay out spirits behind you and run, and Mesmer has more gear dependency, a Necro wand or staff wrap is really helpful to a mesmer but a rit doesn't need it.

room 3 is the great filter for pug teams, a lot of teams are too insistent on corner room strats without the team comp or understanding on how to make it work.

Foundry is the only DoA ZB I really dislike playing with pugs because it always goes the same way.

1) Party groups up, there is a mismatch in experience and people who only sort of understand foundry.
2) Group wipes on room 3 once, maybe even twice
3) Player rage quits, or team dissolves after wipe and party has to reform
4) 75% of players who join new party are from the last party

And that's how you get a 30-45 minute foundry run which takes 1-2 hours, it's faster for me to solo both Gloom, and Foundry than at least half the pug teams I've tried it with and I have run the DoA areas a TON.

Speed clears afctually less so since they expect you to use cons so now you're investing money into getting those diamonds and onyx gemstones and you don't get to loot chests, light of deldrimor or even pick up your drops without being left behind you're banking EVERYTHING on the final chest and onyx and diamonds aren't even going to pay for your pcon use.

>>
>>2453718
aoe knockdown isn't trash
>renewing is boring
what?
that's the thing I like on hammer warrior knocking something on its ass and punishing it severely.
the draining all adrenaline isn't that much of an issue with renewing smash, you charge your skills back up with it, especially with something like FGJ or weapon of fury.
I haven't tried weapon of fury myself though, losing splinter seems like a lot to give up.

its pretty great can slot something in besides for great justice if you want a kd i would run this +40 at 20 hammer
>>
>>2453757
yeah honestly after I had kinda missed that staggering blow was an activation time skill but saw it on yours I threw that on in place of crude swing, swapped in heavy blow instead of hammer bash since it gives bonus damage and is 1 adrenaline cheaper and staggering fuels it, and then I don't need to throw withering aura on something or use it myself to fuel yeti smash.
I do like knocking a whole group on their ass though. I'm still going to run renewing cause I find it fun, in place of protector's, and hmm.. crushing instead of a 3rd pve skill
well
depends on how much I may need something to deal with block stances, block enchants, blind, or miss hexes
or just run scan and deal with all of them simultaneously

am i the only one that likes shields
>>
>>2453795
Ive only ran asuran scan like 10-15 times on my derv and war its not really needed with hero's run runes and shit if you need to i do and i wouldn't drop prot strike use it on hit pumps your adrenaline and helps a lot with attack speed auspicious into prot stike is one of the nastiest combos
>>
>>2453860
renewing is also a hit pump provided you can knock something down.
I often times kd, renewing x3, kd, renewing x3 etc cause the 3 renewings can charge right back up if you have a source of extra adrenaline like mark of fury, weapon of fury or FGJ running.
>>
>>2453860
>>2453920
but I'd disagree on the not needing scan it really depends on what you're running. if you're running content with more miss hexes than your heroes can clear you'll need it EotN areas stack mesmers and eles like crazy.
I do run runes of clarity but.. when it's blind after blind after blind sometimes you can't wait for it or clear it off fast enough so throwing the scan helps.
>>
>>2453920
yeah i know how it works it just reminds me of daggerspam repetitive and boring but if it works for you use it
>>
>>2453939
well any rotation gets repetitive and boring after a lot of use. The difference between the kd/renewing rotation is that it's conditional, sometimes you can't knock something down. sometimes you fuck up cause you didn't know that this enemy was immune, or the weakness gets purged off so the knockdown fails, or something like that, and there's real penalty for failure when you get greedy and do 1 too many renewing smashes when they stand up, 30s cooldown is kind of a punishment for fucking up.
Where dagger spam the worst thing that can happen is your rhythm is off, fox fangs is still on cooldown, and you whiff death blossom, which is fine cause now you just fox fangs now that it's off cooldown and complete your death blossom.
>>
>>2453842
What other option is there? I like shields so much I put them on my casters
>>
>>2453972
that's another reason i don't like it if you miss or blocked your kinda fucked for a bit and there's so many big enemies in the game that cant be knocked down its also why i don't run kds much why the first bar i posted was raw dps but most of the fun with hammers is kds fucking game

well until you notice your SoS running back to the last place he used SoS to tap and isn't there to heal or give you splinter weapon as he's still running back, and hopefully didn't get caught by a patrol
They won't tap off your ST or BiP's spirits, only their own that they spawned.
>>
>>2456671
if i wanted to play scythe id just play my derv its a way better class overall but that's boring
>>
>>2457451
derv and scythe warrior play differently it's not like daggers where you just copy the same dagger spam rotation. Warrior doesn't do the enchant/teardown playstyle of derv, warrior will hardly use enchants at all. Warriors have easier time using mostly adrenaline attacks where derv does better with energy attacks.
like the only thing that might be the same on my bar between a Derv and a Scythe Warrior is Reap Impurities or Chilling Victory.

thats honestly a great change I'm glad they finally fixed preservation cause it's an interesting elite.

I don't think it'll shake up the PvE meta at all, but it's going to have some serious implications for the PvP meta, especially stuff like RA and AB, maybe even split strategy GvG stuff. With 20 second recharge you can creep it forward pretty effectively, can easily maintain 3 of them outside of eachothers range for total coverage over a wide area.

I might have to play some RA
>>
>>2457640
Warrior armor with sentinel insignia and IAU is higher armor than Derv, they won't have the damage reduction of Armor of Sanctity I suppose or some of the other defensive abilities like mirage cloak or mystic regen or mystic vigor, but I haven't noticed a survivability pitfall vs derv, and it doesn't really have to worry about shatters, where heavy enchantment removal can ruin a derv's day.
If there's no enchantment removal the derv probably does have more tools on their standard PR or VOS bars for surviving under pressure though you are right.
>>
>>2457725
what change do you think they made to preservation in pvp
>>
>>2457823
The update from today, check them out. I'd assume the change is for both PvE and PvP versions of the skill, since it doesn't specify it's for PvE.
>>
>>2458046
my bad, idk why they put it under "skill ai adjustments" and tucked the heal lowest behavior at the end, I thought it was just hero behavior
>>
>>2457819
Enchant removal literally doesn't matter to derv. PR is THE perfect cover enchant. You need to be hit with chilblains for it to matter
>>
>>2458266
mesmer or necro stacks in groups say hi.
>>
>>2458266
>>2458306
I mean when I say "heavy enchantment removal" i don't mean groups with 1 mesmer who has 1 enchantment removal on 15s cooldown or some shit I mean stack enchant removals or multiple mesmers/necros that will nail like 4 enchants in 2 seconds right at the start of the fight and follow up when you try to recast and strip them again before they're out of skills to strip them with

They play pretty much the same tho just just spam skills on balled up foes and adrenaline loops with itself on scythe and energy is irrelevant at this point with Sr mods or radiant scythe
>>
>>2458875
nah, Derv will be fueling most of their damage via enchants, whether teardown or not, warriors will not, even with zealous and necromancer I never see Scythe warrior bars with a heavy reliance on enchants. Warriors will fuel their damage through fast generation of adrenaline through TTL and Thrill of Victory and dumping adrenal scythe skills

if you want to boil it down to "spam skills on balled up foes" then every single profession plays the same in a DPS role, because even single target damage dealers like rangers will benefit from splintered weapon into a ball.
Having played both though, their bars are different. Yes it's still melee'ing a ball with the same weapon, but they have different stat spreads: strength/tactics heavy with some investment into scythe just so it's not a total loss if your stance gets stripped.. vs mysticism scythe mastery heavy with some investment into earth or wind prayers or heavy earth prayers investment with significant mysticism and barely enough scythe mastery to cover requirements (12/10/8 spread with a sup/minor/minor or sup/major/minor). Also they just use different skills for the most part the overlap will be reap impurities and possibly chilling victory.
You're just not going to find teardown philosophy on any warrior's bar, but any derv bar is going to have some form of teardown and be enchant heavy.
Instead warrior is going to use shouts instead of enchants and pump adrenaline with TTL and Thrill of Victory and dump into crippling victory, reap impurities and chilling victory.
They're different enough that I consider both worth playing.
>>
>>2458974
what about using sws and no dervish skllls just strength stuff
>>
>>2459166
You can do that too but I think that crippling victory, reap impurities, and chilling victory are all good scythe skills to use on a warrior. Warrior can inflate their health through TTL and if that's not enough, Endure Pain would definitely be enough, but I haven't needed it generally.
You just wouldn't use teardown attacks.
>>
Is Air Magic and brute forcing your way through the armor better for Titans and Destroyers or should you try and make a Water build with Shatterstone?
>>
>>2459692
water is more fun, and can shut down the nasty melee destroyers though you might wanna spec a bit into air too for shell shock
>>
>>2459692
Titans have 63 or 83 armor vs water and 83 or 103 vs lightning. Air magic AP would bring that to 63 or 78. It'll be basically the same. Destroyers are basically the same deal, but some have a bit higher baseline, which is even more in lightnings favor. Just use what's fun cause they're too close for it to matter. I usually like the lower cast times of air vs water.
>>
>>2458974
ok so your using the same busted weapon with some of the same busted skills and your balling enemies up and spamming huge aoe skills yes very different play style thank you for enlightening me
>>
>>2459888
if you can't see the difference between enchanting and teardown and using passive enchanting effects to spread AOE damage regardless of whether you hit with your weapon or not as different then you might as well say that Elementalist and Mesmer play the exact same both using aoe spells on balls of enemies.
That shows no discernment for nuance.
>>
>>2459692
you should make an air magic build and then bring winter on a hero for armor pen water damage
>>
>>2460322
>Winter to hit the lower armor
>Cracked armor to lower it further
>Then you ignore 25%
Sounds cool
>>
>>2459692
>>2460387
For titans air magic + winter is great.
For destroyers no matter what attribute you spec into it will be low damage suffering. You will always be doing at best about 70% of the tooltip damage. Even under winter. Even with cracked armor and armor pen. Cause you're starting at a base of about 120 armor vs cold (160 vs fire, 140 vs air). So you lower that to 100 armor, and then armor pen down to about 80, so you're still working through base warrior armor.
Vs the casters, while using that specific combo, it'll feel like you're doing normal damage to other enemies, you'll do somewhat over tooltip damage because it's treating it like 40 armor.. the way that armor pen works on a normal 60 AL enemy, but it's starting at 80 AL which is only that low because you're exploiting a weakness with winter. Without winter you'd be basically doing tooltip damage against destroyers of hope/thoughts
But any of the ranger and warrior destroyers.. you'll feel like you're wasting your time trying to damage no matter what Ele build you try against them.

Now if you do a build where you use a lot of skills without + damage on them like your jagged strikes with daggers, or sun and moon slash with swords or double/triple shot/forked shot, your damage will be absolute ass, you're right.
But with + damage on skills it's not terrible.
It's only on Ele that I do Raven's Point or GOLEM or A Time for Heroes, see my damage numbers and die a little inside.
>>
>>2460490
if you run intensity with something strong you're going to rape any single target build anyway

wow they're really bringing back the whole original anet team

I just hope they don't recruit Gaile Gray lol

>>2465760
The steam release happened almost a decade after the game launched so most of the playerbase are not on steam. That said if you told me to guess how many people are currently playing I'd estimate there's between 3k-6k players at any given moment and that's me lowballing the estimate. Game probably sees closer to 10k+ on prime hours/weekends especially given how much money GW is producing >>2458543 since GW1 is now producing 10% of anet's total income.

That said, GW1 is a very solo friendly game, you can complete the game from start to finish and every area in the game without ever having to interact with another player and it's a rather decent experience. You can replace players with heros/henchmen which are NPC allies you can customize with skills of your own choice and have minor amounts of control over. There is almost always people doing dailies, and end game dungeons see some grouping still. As always you're welcome to post IGN and join our guild we do stuff occasionally.
>>
>>2465760
I bought on launch and only started a week ago. The outposts aren't as crazy packed as they were but the cities are still bustling. Considering mobile is coming out and they're hiring more developers I think the future's looking up.
>>
>>2465760
Don't join the guild here, they only do stuff one week a year. It's pretty dead. Just go with any of the big guilds you see advertised in Kamadan or GToB and you will have nice people organizing groups at any given hour.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtE3VzaJSqE
I hope they don't nerf this. It looks pretty fun.
>>
>>2466867
We do something at least once a week for most of the year.
We're not a huge alliance where there are dozens of people online at any given time, but we are considerably active for 21 year old MMO, plus you can be casually racist in alliance chat.
And BTW, you can just show up to our alliance events even if you don't join.

Our total alliance has maybe 50~ logins every week, at any given point in the day we have on average maybe 4 people online, 8-12 during peak hours, despite that we have been doing something every weekend for the last 4 months straight, this is one of the first weekends or so where I haven't been online 2-4+ hours running/cordinating stuff we're doing. We're not a big alliance, big alliances can have multiple people running events independent of eachother, I'm the sole person who plans and runs stuff and I have been doing this for nearly 4 years now. I'm not saying this cause boohoo me, I love running this guild and there's no other group of retards I'd rather be here with but please try to understand even I want to do other things than play GW every single weekend for 4 years straight lol.

Advantages to large guild are as you say, they always do stuff, but large guilds are deeply impersonal and basically act as a group finder more than a guild, you WILL join the discord and you WILL run the build they tell you. The ally chat will move fast with names you only sometimes recognize, if you're an extremely social person I'd maybe recommend a large guild.

Advantage to joining us, you can say a slur and we'll correct you on the slurs our professional racists have created for this game. Additionally due to our size you will recognize people who hang around and chat, we don't use discord so all our communications happen either in thread, or in game.

tl;dr big guilds function as group finders more than "guilds" and our guild is just a group of bro's who do stuff occasionally. Regardless of what you pick, non ally members always welcome to show up to stuff, they just need to post/inform me so I know who to invite.

On the topic of events I mentioned earlier but we'll be doing an HM UW run next weekend, additionally our NF prog starts next month, that'll get discussed more in a future thread.

There are only 2 actual fantasy pets: the racing beetle and the hound of Balthazar (arguably we could add the phoenixes too)
>>
>>2474631
I would probably also count moa bird, dune lizard, moss spider, jahai rat, and melandru's stalker
I checked out what pets there are in gw2 and it looks like the devs decided they should've added more pets unique to the setting lol
>>
>>2474664
Moa birds are actually real: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moa
Yes, and pets each have unique skills in gw2
Would be nice if charm animal was replaced by a pet-specific skill if you have one

they look decently different so i'll give moa birds in this game a pass.
also yeah charm animal seems so oddly useless lol. they really should do something like what you said. would be cool.

>>

Its function is to allow you to have a pet. There must be "cost" (one slot of your skill bar). They even made this easier in PvE by allowing certain skills to keep your pet out (e.g. Comfort Animal).
>>
I hope they're thinking of reworking character selection
I want to buy more slots, but it's already hard to use

The cost would be you still need the skill slotted, and likely the attribute leveled. Beast mastery is meant to be like the second weapon of ranger but they never could make it work
>>
>>2475840
Nobody would use it still since if your pet dies you'd have to have a second skill
I think Revive Animal should also let your pet travel with you, totally useless skill since comfort lets you get away with 1 skill that is both the res and replacement for charm animal
>>
>>2475068
I feel like there's a good middle ground to achieve with animal designs, but I get that. I really like how this game looks in terms of artstyle.

We're going to do an HM UW run at 3 PM EST on Saturday we'll be doing a melee support setup team if people want to theorycraft some builds between now and then, this set up is a lil flexible but ideally we have a TaO dagger ranger, 2-3 other melee, and a GDW rit, all other roles are somewhat flexible.

What's a good build for farming Minotaur Horns?
>>
>>2492733
when the game first came out i found out that 5 minotaur horns trades for mesmer gloves and the mesmer gloves salvaged into a few linen which at the time was worth way more than 5 horns
im pretty sure later on they patched collector items to be unsalvageable but i made a cool million gold doing this because i had people farming the horns for me
>>
>>2492733
SoS ritualist is probably the easiest + least effort to set up.

Alternatively some high armor ele set up with AoE damage probably works pretty good too, some flavor of earth ele abusing silver armor + stoneflesh aura.

You can probably bruteforce a melee farmer to work but Wary Stance makes it less pleasant to play.

Anything that kills too slow, can't tank multiple melee hits, or has no answer to healing sig (shield of judgement monk farmer for example) is suboptimal.
>>

>>
>>2494433
get the fuck out of prophecies bro thats not good for you
>>
>>2494433
Rest assured that it's not just you. The desert is the first area is a challenge for most people. It's basically a big PvP tutorial.
Let's start by making sure you understand what you have to do. Each group has three groups of two enemies and a boss group with a priest. Every two minutes, every defeated enemy on the team will be resurrected by the Priest. Obviously, this means that if you kill the priest, they will cease to resurrect at their shrine.
You want to start by managing the clock. Typically, you can begin killing one group over two minutes before the next resurrection because you're aiming to have them die soon after the time mark. Then move to kill up, focusing on the priest once you get to the boss group. Once you're done, wait out the clock to the preferred time before starting on the next group.
The enemies here are just harder too. The warriors are tanky and cripple, the rangers Blind and Daze, the necros strips enchantments and buff the melees, the mesmers sap your caster energy, interrupts spells, and snare your melees, and the eles are tanky with AoE knockdowns.
If you're having serious trouble, it's worth asking for help.
>>
>>2494433
Whats your primary? I would personally go with something to shutdown the priest or a spike build to try and quickly kill the priest if you manage to get him low.

Like anon above said it's basically a PvP tutorial. You have to keep the timer in mind while attempting this mission, when enemies are about to respawn if you can't complete the kill you need to start pulling back and trying again, otherwise you'll just get overrun.
>>
>>2494537
> go recruit all the beginner heroes
