Planetside 2 is full of microtransactions and cheating, so come play the original instead.

Spoonfeed Setup Guide:

>What faction do I play?
Whatever you want. Unless we get an unexpected surge of new players, we'll likely be fighting small groups of each other. So just pick a faction you like, or make an alt for each faction.

>How do I find a fight?
Whenever someone deals damage to something (Including unmanned base turrets), little "explosions" appear on the map. Other players can hotdrop to these spots by pressing ESC and clicking "Instant Action".

>Are there any stupid faggoty rules that'll get me banned?
Just one. Don't blow up the enemy AMS during lowpop. If you want to do that, bring more people into the game, then it'll be allowed.

shoutouts to the TR guy who logged in, that was a good mech fight.

Thanks to everyone who showed up yesterday. Glad to help you all learn the game.

Why the fuck are Vanu players like this?

>early 00's
>be me
>be pre-teen descended of noble blood-line living in modern day secluded tower lifestyle (early 00's pc gaming)
>Play planetside 10-day trial and lord genes kick in, leading squads n shit
>kick ass and take names, running gal drops and retaining squadmates
>convince clan-mates and community friends to get 10 day trial and jump on with me
>convince female best gamer friend borderline gf that I liked a lot to play too (played together every day for almost a year)
>we are running this shit, she's havin fun, I'm having fun being alpha dog
>Ganking the shit out of anyone and everyone, even running combined arms ops, coordinating air strikes on AMS
>After several days into 10 day trial she starts playing enemy faction (NC) and starts playing with older dudes who run an infiltrator only squad
>start getting annoyed with her and asking why she isn't playing with the boys anymore and get a little jealous
>ends up being the start of us breaking up as best gamer buds and we fight for a few days
>she stops playing with me forever
Fuck bros, this thread just made me relive some weird trauma shit I haven't thought about in years. This must be why I go out of my way to fuck up infiltrators in mountains with a claw shotty to the back of the head. I wonder what she's up to nowadays. Her dad made some pretty rad music.

>Planetside 1
>Infiltrator
Nice story, if only it were true.
>>
>>2461732
Infiltrators/cloakers, same thing. Yeah, there were no explixcit classes, but implicitly there were through your armor selection. The sneaking suit is literally called the infiltration suit. Unfortunately the story is fact and I was too overbearing, but it was probably for the best. F for fps/rts gamer gf bestie.

Neways, I loved ps1's Diablo style inventory management system. It was cool loading up supplies in a marauder or deliverer and being able to set up resupply points for heavier 1 shot weapons like the decimator.

Alright, fair enough. Sorry for doubting you.

But yeah, I do really enjoy the inventory system. It has just the right level of jank that I like.

no worries, fren. I liked Planetside 2, especially the beta, but I think Planetside 1 had more soul with things like vehicle loading animations and the galaxy being able to load up small buggies, or having to go to the special drop pod facility to hot drop. The ps1 cycler is probably my favorite rifle in both games. It just sounds and feels right.

I should've played TR in PS2, but I fell in love with the NC country rock at the end of beta. That and starting every night off having to scramble like bugs under rocks while dozens of mosquitoes patrol the skies with instant kill rocket pods after TR warpgated NC on the daily while everyone else is at work. Gave a real vibe of ragtag mercenaries facing off against a well oiled machine. And then they started fucking everything up ever since.

both games had major soul and are my favorite online fps games

True. I've been gathering a group pretty much every day since I made the thread, around noon US time. We've just been doing small-scale skirmishes with whoever shows up. The actual teamfights seem to happen on Sundays.

I will mention, the 22nd to 24th of this month is the anniversary of Planetside 1, so that will be the time of year where the population is highest.

I might have to check it out. I recently tried to get back into PS2 in the last year after not playing for a bit and with the lost of US EAST servers, I just gave up on it. Truly the end of an era for the golden days of PS.

Games that have kind of filled the itch for PS2 in recent years for me:
>Arma 3 KOTH MP
>Star Citizen
>>
God, Planetside 2 was such a rush back in the day.
I remember running with the, now nigh-on forgotten, *chan [www] outfit on it. That fucking Bulgarian talking about fucking his sister is still funny as fuck to me.

Never played Planetside 1 though. Did hear it was better laid out at the very least before it went to shit.

the nostalgia I have for PS2 is unmatched by anything else

at least we kind of have Foxhole to fill the void

base design was superior. there wasn't all those rinky dink nothing bases like in ps2, bases were at varying distances, some far away, some close and fights always broke out in those middle areas while trying to push the line. you had genuine armor battles and mass infantry in the middle . then once you got to the base you needed to play infantry to capture the base and you couldn't cheese them by shelling spawn rooms since spawns were deep in the base, unlike ps2. you could shell some door entrances, but you could avoid them. then there was this game of keeping your bases filled with energy. bases naturally drained energy, but could be sped up by destroying the defense turrets, control consoles and generator. once a base was out of energy it would go neutral, allowing anyone to hack no matter if you had a lattice connection, totally altering the flow of the battle, if you could hold it. more often though elite outfits would do what was called generator holds where you drop in, surge to the generator, destroy it and hold it. this was almost always usually done to cut off enemy tech plants which prevented the enemy from pulling advanced vehicles from bases connected to the tech plant. this of course drew a ton of attention from the enemy so the goal of these elite outfits was to hold the generator as long as possible so the front line could push the bases with the tech advantage

of course there were issues with the game. ever since the beta of ps1 there was a memory leak problem that was never solved, the game would start bloating and losing performance as soon as you start playing, after about an hour you saw significant performance degredation. this was never fixed. there was also a secret clique of cheaters that figured out you could cheat basically anything with cheat engine. you could turn your mini chaingun and jackhammer into having a permanent cone of fire as low as a crouched amp which was pin point precise. then you had connection manipulation
>>

despite all those problems suchs as bfrs and even core combat was a mistake, it was the invasion of blue china that really killed the game. a bunch of cheating lag wizard chinese washed over the server as nc calling themselves blue china and then it was over
>>
I love this game and it's nice to see a private server, but I'm really going to need more than 2v2 to give it a serious chance. It's too barren right now.
>>
>>2458521
this is hilarious not only because they're vanu, but also because it's the fastest way to get br exp completely solo (the actual fastest way is 1v1ing someone thousands of times with adjacent ams spawns)
there's a command to immediately reach br13, so either they REALLY want their 3rd implant or they're simple that bored/desperate to start a fight or prep a cont for next weekend's fight
>>
>>2451843
If you remake the OP, mention that new players should type !progress 13 to instantly level to BR 13, giving themg access to two out of their three implant slots. Implants matter quite a lot, so it's not worth going without them when the option exists. Audio Amp, Surge, Personal Shield and Darklight Amp are some of the more popular/potent choices to go for.
