>>2559754>2015 gameAnon... we are in a thread about playing shitty old MMOs. My puter couldn't handle this at 30fps, lowest settings. I saw some of you niggers were playing motherfucking Hellgate on potato graphics so I'd imagine there's more than a few of us who are unemployed losers playing on thirdie-tier setups here. Still a surprisingly weak turnout even with that considered though. Last year's PSU revisit was like 30 people. MHF is basically the same shit and that had a turnout of about 50 from what I remember.

>>2560177>>2559754>>2559880this project had the highest voter turnout yet with 26 voters towards the revisit finals. from past patterns, we'd be seeing 2-3x (50-75+) anons showing up ingame, yet there were less than a dozen in actuality basing off screenshots. I voted but personally didn't end up joining because none of the titles I voted for won. I wonder if something fucky is going on with the voting (i.e., rigged). interest in revisits seemed pretty high from thread activity but I noticed they nosedived near the end of the finals after movienight. also, why was /v/ not invited for the anniversary? if anything they should be by right since the project started there.
>>2560257>why was /v/ not invited for the anniversary?Sounds like a great time to make one for SWG, always nice to see threads there
>>2560257>I wonder if something fucky is going on with the voting (i.e., rigged).Thats usually the case, there's always a trend of a particular person being pushy to come play their MMO that they really really like and if it doesnt win they sperg out. There was a lot of DDO shilling from the devs in the thread too.>also, why was /v/ not invited for the anniversary? This is probably the main reason for the low turn out, a large majority of /mmod/ players tend to be people from the /v/ threads who stick around only for that game, or only come for the games they're interested in.
>>2560250Oh you dont need a copy of SWG these days to play these? Or is it just for this server?

So I've been watching a lot of Summer Games Fest and related showcases and these were the MMOs that popped up that could be of interest to us. Obviously not counting Guild Wars 3 and Aion 2 as they don't really fit the scope of the project. >>2565338>Combat (both mounted and on-foot) was weirdly shallow for many classes>Leveling pace was generally slow and heavily quest-reliant>Soloable dungeons disincentivized party play>Themepark-style "follow the MSQ" structure didn't mesh with everyone's tastes>Server felt pretty pay2win, with limited amenities made for newer players (inventory space was always an issue)>Freebie mounts were head-and-shoulders above anything you could tame throughout all of the earlygame/midgame, making the main gimmick kind of irrelevant for much of itIcarus wasn't bad per-say, just kind of boring. It's not some unfathomable nadir of the genre as that one Anon keeps going on about (and will likely continue to go on about...), but moreso an instance of a promising MMO on the surface being less than the sum of its parts for many.It did look quite nice, however, thanks to Cryengine once again rendering some impressively large and detailed environments for every zone, as was the case in Archeage.

>>2566109I'd actually play all theses except Bless online. Maybe I wouldn't play Xenimus for more than a day though.
>>2566136I think a lot of the campaigning is usually just one person who's very passionate about a specific MMO wanting us to play their fave MMO so it seems like lots of people want to go for it and that convinces a few people voting. Then they play for a few hours and are like "meh"Also a few have admitted to voting for popular choices just to get them out the way. Like Puzzle Pirates.

>>2566888The riggers have chosen the best games IMO, they're the ones that see sense and prevent us from playing generic korean mmo #500. Like Hellgate was an admitted rigging, Wakfu was a probable rigging.
>>2566888We will play everything regardless, so it doesn't matter.
>>2566871>none of this sounds as bad as Ace online or C9It wasn't. Icarus was just meh/10, made a little more disappointing by its unique taming gimmick and combat model not being very well-realized. Yet one Anon thinks it was the worst thing ever made (when it clearly wasn't), hence the random vitriol towards it which comes up in their posts.Nobody is coming back to that one for a revisit on next year's anniversary. But it was very far from the near-flatline of interest we experienced with ACE Online.>>2566888>the rigging'Oy, showrunners, you think we should go back to the old Polltab voting system for a single game's run, just to show what REAL blatant rigging looks like to the newbloods? There's shortcomings with the current system, granted, even if it's still leaps and bound ahead of what we had to suffer through before. A purge of older accounts/tokens probably wouldn't go amiss at this point (if that hasn't already happened), to assure only actively-playing Anon within the past 3-4 weeks or so get to direct their own ship.
The only thing I think unironically has ever got rigged was the Dragons Dogma Online server choice because it magically got 19 votes which is never the case in these, and won by a long shot, coincidentally at the same time the devs of that server were shilling in their thread. Meanwhile the SWG server choice got 8 votes in comparison, and the DDO guild name choice which was in the same post got like 9 votes.Any sort of sudden voting changes is just me being devilish and changing my mind last minute.
>>2566923are we going to conveniently forget the Icarus rigging? or the worst of all yet, Ace online? if we're fine with rigging why not drop all pretense of having a fair vote?>A purge of older accounts/tokens probably wouldn't go amiss at this point (if that hasn't already happened), to assure only actively-playing Anon within the past 3-4 weeks or so get to direct their own ship.I doubt a purge would help if someone can just sockpuppet 5 accounts and be the majority of the vote. revealing the names of everyone who voted, if that could be done, might be the best deterrent for that, since token voting isn't anon anyways
>>2566947The dev said either Rising or Legacy would be good. >>2513431That being said, I was under the impression he works on the server software that all the private servers run, and that he's not in charge of any specific server. >>2567052yea why not?
>>2567037>>2567064>tfw remembering the pirates online & cabal online rigcould you imagine the shitshow if we started pirates that early with voter distrust at an all time high
>>2567037>50vs41 RaiderZ/FerentusLol.Wasn't there a bracket where someone dumped over 100 votes towards a single game? That site was such a mess. Thank god we found something better after ECO.
>>2567078>Wasn't there a bracket where someone dumped over 100 votes towards a single game? I vaguely remember this and it wasn't clear if it was one guy or a rigger and several desperate white hats trying to expose how broken that voting system was lel. the rigging fatigue was definitely at an all time high
>>2567074Very thankful we aren't living in that timeline.Part of the reason why attendance in ACE Online was so sparing (and perhaps why lingering opinion on the game is so negative even now), was due to voter confidence understandably being rock-bottom given the circumstance. Everyone knew it wasn't an especially popular pick despite "somehow" besting more-favored titles, and the actual, factual rigging due to Polltab's nonexistent voting security had become outright insultingly blatant, showcasing severe doubts as to the intended direction of the project.Continue to be incredibly relieved that a better voting alternative was discovered after the unexpected surge of popularity brought about by ECO. Had we not jumped ship from Polltab when we did, there is a very real chance that the MMODventure might have died less than 10 games in.Major props to the showrunners for keeping this ship sailing after all this time.
Does it count?
>>2566871pp pirates is a funny example because the biggest shill for it was away from his computer the first week we did anythinga few others like wakfu i felt like we put them up on the board and nobody was willing to actually gather the group together for days (and the one guy shitting on turn based games was right for the wrong reason, since that game was a slog for reasons entirely separate to being turn based)

>>2567335To be fair, I'm not sure what major flaws RCV/any ranked-choice system has besides being a little hard to parse for confused people. I assume the site has more than just IP fingerprinting to prevent people trying to dupe more than one vote out of the showrunner.
>>2567074>>2567078>>2567102>>2567170I'm fine with rigging because it doesn't mean I have to play it and it gets it off the suggestion list. Sometimes if a game's being mega shilled I vote for it and don't play it just to get it out of the way and get rid of the shill. I just take the two weeks off and thats how I stop burn out. I think a few others do the same hence why sometimes a game being shilled wins and only 5 people play it. Thats their consequence of shilling it and sperging out when it doesn't win.>>2567302Thats why I voted for Puzzle Pirates that week. Sure, we'll play the game he wants, when he's not available. And I really liked Wakfu in general since it really relied on party play so it felt like the game I played with others the most. >>2573831From what I see it seems from reviews like the devs have recently added a pvp toggle for open world so it's probably not a issue. When you toggle it on you get more exp and drop rate. Its too late for me to change my vote now but I'm gonna still give it a shot if it wins and if its just impossible to progress due to ganking then fuck it, back to SWG is fine for me.

Very good in PvP.>EarthHas good AOEs and a ton of crowd control. Has access to snares, slows, and stuns. Very good in large scale PvP.>WindHigh single target damage and can cause bleed. Solid in PvE and exceptional in 1v1 PvP.>LightningHas a ton of stuns, but is deceptively slow. Chidori is extremely powerful in PvP, but the rest of the mastery is underwhelming. Solid in PvE, a monster in team fights, but struggles in 1v1s.>TaijutsuFast single target damage. Has access to a movement speed buff and a second substitution. Dominates 1v1s but struggles in large scale PvP and PvE.>Weapon Master (Strength)Similar to Taijutsu but slower and with more damage. Has multiple homing skills and bleed. Dominates 1v1s but is abysmal in PvE and large scale PvP.>Weapon Master (Intelligence)Has great projectiles. Can set explosive traps that deal damage or bear traps that snare. Great in large scale PvP and good in 1v1s, but struggles in PvE because the tools to use their skills cost money.>MedicCan heal, revive, and buff allies. Has multiple poison skills that deal good damage over time. Chakra scalpels give them strong melee. Great everywhere except solo PvE.

All this discussion on Nin Online is very interesting. It'd be fun if I just... voted for Rusty Hearts right now and made the discussion pointless.
>>2575696You do you anon, we will play Nin eventually
This game will either be funny as hell or absolute dogshit no inbetween
>>2575801Yeah even if it just ends up a disaster it's at least a funny story. Its all about creating memories and experiences and that includes bad experiences. Its either gonna end up pretty cool and there was nothing to worry about, or the clique finds out we're 4channers and it starts a sperg out and starts a war, or we all go to a less populated village and we revive the village through increased activity starting a war, or we all get ganked and laugh about it and drop the game. There's still both DDO and SWG to go back to if its a bust, which only got a week of play and deserved more. I say we try it for a day or two, if its a bust, go back to SWG for a week then DDO for the final week.
Open pvp isn't even the biggest controversy the game has if you read the highest all time rated reviews.

>>2575599Holy newfag.Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad. However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The superpowered characters all trying their hardest to look cool, the jutsus, peculiar, colorful clothes, the whole ninja faggotry and everything about the Naruto world fuels their escapist fantasies, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on revenge, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underageb& retards eat this shit right the fuck up.Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troll the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfags to show their faces here.

>>2581552Yeah, I really don't get it why anon is crashing out so early. The medium evolved, your average brazillian won't touch MMOs anymore, the ones who play are usually chaps who grew with the genre
>>2581769Did you ever play AQW? It's basically a time capsule on the whole anime and internet culture of the early 2000 to 2010s.We have shit like zombie goku and dante look alikes

>>2582564yeah, I'm thinking kino
>>2580693>The game is fun at the beginning. Starting out with a friend makes the exploration and learning the ropes much more fun than solo. So, perfect for us?

>>2584825You know what, I'm looking forward to the kind of people who voted for this game to actually play it, now.
>>2584825>>2580693the more i read of this the more i think we're voting to get it over with againi appreciated the sentiment with puzzle pirates but we've gotta actually try to pick a winner one of these days, right?though, maybe the issue is there's just nothing but coal on this rotation anyway?
>>2585220Its more the fact the concept seemed cool at first. A Naruto style ninja MMO based on those old BYOND games which I'm sure some of us have nostalgia for. Then there was someone in the thread shilling it talking about how they have a statue for the original dev and I fell for it and voted it as my first choice. Then someone actually looked into the reviews.I think if we did a revote right now, of like the top four games. Nin wouldn't win, it'd probably be at the bottom. But you bring up Puzzle Pirates and I ended up actually liking Puzzle Pirates. It took like a week for me to get into it though. Maybe it'll be the same for Nin if I give it a chance.
>>2584874>>2585220>>2585269Lets be honest this shit isn't gonna last the two weeks. We've been around each other long enough to know what we all like and don't like and what works and doesn't.>Open PVP that they "fixed" by toggling on and off in towns and "safe areas" which most missions send you out>Newbies get constantly ganked and if they can't gank you then they just kill your target before you can since most missions are "Assassinate Target">General unfriendly cliqueish community>Heavy PVP focus with most missions being killing other players>EXP loss on death>Groomer GMs>ERP in the Leaf Village>All other villages are pretty much dead>Full of BRs, Annoying teens and annoying Teen BRS>Heavy discord focus where you have to join multiple discords and most things are arranged through there>Discords are full of drama>Schizo Lead Dev who has public meltys will randomly pull down the server if someone pisses him off>Poor latency/connection for EUs>Complaints of repetitive quests>Complains of no direction after the tutorial aspect>Villages are ran by players, they decide who does or does not rank up, and who gets in specific organisations, meaning you have to suck up and get into a cliqueI give it two days until most are gone and three until everyone is gone.
>>2585269>>2585666Yeah, that statue and story is true. Anyway, assuming this wins, I'd like to instill some confidence in this title. Like our Dark Ages run I plan to guide and help out those that needs it. The "new player experience" that you see on those reviews will not apply to us because I'm already part of that community and we will not be missing out on anything.
>>2585220Practically everyone who played Puzzle Pirates actively played the whole two weeks, and wished it had a third one. I think it was one of the best games we played.
>>2585736>>2585269I think Puzzle Pirates is fairly niche as its not a very traditional MMO and more of a social experience. I think those that knew they wouldn't be into it played didnt play it or gave it a shot and quit after a day or two, and that left everyone else who likes that style and they loved it.
>>2585679Why is this game using stolen ragnarok online assets?
I'll give Nin a fair shot as part of the spirit of the project is the bad MMOs as well as the good. Rather than just insta skipping or quitting after a day. You're never really gonna get a full scope of the MMO on the first day and you're always gonna seem lost.Like I thought I'd dislike Puzzle Pirates, since it's being brought up, but ended up quite liking it in the end and thats because I stuck through.>>2585679Thats nice to offer but I feel like we should experience the new player experience because that's part of the spirit of the project. Good or bad we drop into an MMO and take it at face value. Though obv I just can play without the help and anyone who wants it in order to experience later content can take it.
>>2585952Yes, of course. Obviously, I will begin as a fresh character like the rest of the gang, but if direction is required, I will be available to supply it.
>>2585220I can see how the past few weeks have been shitty for some people and full of misses>Icarus was shit>Hellgate was good but I've noticed some people doing this dont like lobby games>Puzzle Pirates wasn't for everyone>Not everyone was interested in revisiting past MMOs>Nin Online will most likely be shit
>>2586197>Not everyone was interested in revisiting past MMOsI skipped out entirely on them just because I didnt experience them the first time around and 1 week doesnt feel like enough time to get invested into an mmo ive never played before
>>2586217I think both of them should have gotten 2 weeks for sure. They've both actually been my favorite games of the year. So I hope next year it's just one game for 2 weeks instead. I'm fine with that.
>>2585736puzzle pirates was easy to stay on by virtue of being a glorified browser game. you can forgive a lot of jank if it's your side tab. i was playing more spiral knights while AFKing in pub ships.i would not call it a game worth coming back to. i think it's low spec enough that it could qualify as a minigame, like more vocal people said before, but if you asked me for an objective take on it i'd say the mechanics for everything around the puzzles are pure evil and i'd really like to keep it dead. after looking at how it monetizes itself, i wonder what mafia has grown around spiral knights to put the fear of death into grey havens so that it doesn't become just as badi don't think people share your sentiment after the courtesy period of not shitting up the ingame chat has passed. your willingness to prescribe that opinion to other people when nobody voted for the +1 week sounds more like you have trouble thinking of other people.
>>2586275I still think Puzzle Pirates would have worked better as a regular option in mini game night and we do a voyage once in a while, rather than a full two week stint. Because when we played it I found myself playing for an hour or two quite addictively, then I'd be satisfied and begin to get burned out, then I log off for the day.So in terms of ever revisiting it I'd not even make it an option and instead make it an option on mini game nights to do a voyage.
>>2585220I'm surprise Dark Age of Camelot and City of Heroes got instantly knocked out. Both of them always reach top eight whenever they're up. Dark Age of Camelot is quite a classic early 2000s MMO and was a major part of the MMO scene in that era as Everquest's rival and I thought /mmod/ would be into experiencing that. And CoH won second place last time it was up and is known for having an insane amount of customisation. Plus we've never played any of the three capeshit MMOs yet so it's a sub-genre we've never delved into.
>>2586275You very clearly didn't play it.
>>2585952People just weren't giving PP a chance at all. I have to take some of the blame because I wasn't there to play for the first few days, so I wasn't putting any work into countering all the negativity.
>>2586755There wasnt all that negativity really. The /v/ thread were really up for it because they were nostalgic for Puzzle Pirates. Its just some of the regulars weren't. And that always happens, the first one or two days of any MMO we do filters out the people who find the MMO isn't for them. Its inevitable.
>>2586626nigga it is a 5 mb game with a match browser, who do you think could not have played it. do you think there are people who will bitch about games with one click accessibility without accessing them firsti got on, saw almost every feature was doubloon paywalled (except for clothes, which have the optional avenue of scouring every single shop in an island to ultimately overpay for a color you don't want), saw PvE doesn't actually take your equipment into account at all, saw established players in public crews accusing everything of being botted (including their jobbers), and saw "special content" just being the same puzzles with a furball or a coffin added to the block poolthere is nothing to accuse someone of missing with this game. 3 days was enough, and the rest was people idling and talking while doing other things. the only times we had to actually try were when Assgr or Hobo were actively lining themselves up to be shot by enemy cannons, which was only fun in a "watching your friend crash his bicycle" kinda way>>2586755i wouldn't beat yourself up for not salvaging it. actually, the way you talk when you're "countering" people in these threads was actively escalating the negativity during the votes. the initial /v/ thread was actually kinda pleasant before i started seriously looking beyond the surface here, and someone not being around to say "actually every MMO wants your money for nothing" probably helped
>>2586855>do you think there are people who will bitch about games with one click accessibility without accessing them firstHave you seen this thread this past couple days?
>>2586945yeah it's all reasonable apprehension about a byond game with a roblox mindset to pvp. if that wins the vote i'll simply stop talking about it since i won't be playing, but it's fair game to call a spade a spade during the democratic process.

>>2587820I think that will be most interesting as the population seems very low even for an MMO and going by the reviews, quite insular and cliqueish. >>2589168>>2589343You can't actually start out in takumi, you have to pick one of the other villages and get exiled. It's honestly not worth going rogue unless you're high level or experienced at the game because you're more likely to get pvp missions or get ganked.
>>2589343Takumi is like Fight club and I don't recommend it this early on. We will definitely get there during the second week if the Nin lasts that long.
>>2589367>>2589375I see, I see. Well, we could always put in the back burner and do it in the last days, at least to experience the outlaw life

If have a suggestion for you guys: Tree of SaviorWas checking out the thread and someone said when they logged in there was only three people playing. So I checked and when I was on there was only ten people playing. They just shut down the BR server too so its on its last legs. Each class has like ten sub classes which is pretty cool variety wise and you can pick two sub classes. If the game has gotten too nickel and dimey since I played there's also two private servers, one thats more of the classic era and one thats more of the modern era. The classic era private server owner is a bit schizo though but it makes it fun.
>>2589930this game is textbook "died because the developers are fucking retarded and jewish"definitely not worth playing the official server for this shit, the private servers are a bit weird but still better
>>2589930Oh fuck I wanted to give the game a shot but never had the chance to!
>>2589930ToS would be fun, especially with anon who've never played it before, but both private servers require account registration via Discord to my knowledge. No dedicated websites to sidestep having to break the Anonymous mask is a big roadblock for some here, and puts a pretty major damper on the likelihood it'll be picked up for the project, unfortunately. The official client is truly on its last legs and isn't worth bothering with, as >>2589947 said, so Seeds of Yggdrasil and/or Laima would be our only hypothetical options. Both can be found on RageZone, both lack a standalone website, and both require Discord to register as previously mentioned. Such a shame.
>>2589947>>2589968>>2590024Yeah the retail server is an absolute barren land, like I said when I went on there was 10 people online. Which makes me wonder why they're still up but the BR server just closed so I don't expect EN to last long. So it might have to be a private server anyways by the time it's voted in because it probably won't even be up then.Whats interesting is they still release new cash shop content which makes me wonder if its still doing well in Asia and thats why it's still going, or if those 10 people still playing are giga whales keeping it afloat. But theres just so many classes now which is cool https://treeofsavior.com/page/class/>>2589947Weird is an understatement, the people who run those servers are definitely quirky people. The owner of one was ranting about demons in the walls.
>>2590068>The owner of one was ranting about demons in the walls. Was that the same guy who put up a fund for a Charlie Kirk memorial, then closed his server's discord channel after getting too much heat for it, or something?Either way, if the Discord barrier ever becomes less of a sticking point around here, ToS would be a solid inclusion, even if the admins of the two available servers for it are both extremely questionable people in their own ways. Hopefully someday.
I'll try anything at least. I think it would be more nice if pvp wasn't gated by stat points whatever any idea how fast the leveling is
>>2590100I think doing retail would still be kind of interesting, especially if it doesnt have long left to live.Since it's truly an abandoned game and I dont remember you needing to pay up much unless you like cosmetics, but it could have gotten much worse since I played. It'd be funny if it closed as we were playing it.
>>2590151it has gacha classes now lol
>>2589930>Tree of Saviorthat has an ongoing general. game's with longstanding generals don't get included for this project.
>>2590166Of course. Thats what probably killed it.
>>2590418>game's with longstanding generals don't get included for this project. Not true. Toram, Vindictus, and Wakfu (via /agg/) all had ongoing generals at the time we landed on them, and they accepted us during our two-week stay.Preexisting generals ARE something to vet before potentially ingratiating ourselves due to the risk of thread specific giga-schizos, but we've been lucky so far in not tripping any landmines.
>>2590443*potentially integrating, autocorrect plsNot going to delete the post to correct it, since it's trivial to see deleted posts these days.
>>2590443>>2590418Theres also a Star Wars Games general thats mostly SWG and we're currently playing SWG. Also the Tree of Savior "general" is like one guy who posts every month because nobody's playing that game. Mostly discord drama, I dont even think he logs in anymore.
>>2590443Toram was an edgecase, since the general started sometime during or slightly before the voting process. /agg/ was primarily Dofus general and /ddg/ was for Dragon's Dogma games. I wasn't aware Vindictus had a general, if it did I don't think it should've been included.Otherwise we can include other dead MMOs such as Ragnarok Online, Phantasy Star Online 2 and Final Fantasy XI.>>2590460>Star Wars Games general Probably another edgecase like /ddg/, then. Either way I am not a fan of adding games with dedicated generals, even Toram was kinda iffy. It enforces a clique mentality of wanting to play with OUR anons instead of those anons, even if they're with rightful intentions, and they'll end up finding us anyways.
>>2590418The general is literally one guy talking to himself
>>2590609I checked, there's still at least a handful of people trying to play and a guy shilling his dysfunctional server
>>2590658I mean it hardly counts as general, it's stuck on /vm/ and the thread is 7 months old which tells you it gets bumped from page 10 and that's it
>>2590664well, /vm/'s a slow board so a months old general isn't an unusual thing. even these threads which go pretty slow most of the time are exceptionally fast for this board. still, 7 months is pretty slow though.
I just want you guys all to know that im playing sand even if the poll says we're supposed to do leafThe poll is obviously rigged and botted this time and im just going to ignore it There's literally zero reason to play leaf.

>>2590948I don't think so. I think revisits are great.
>>2590948Why? I played both games for the first time and wish we could stay one more week in both
>>2590948no but turn them to 2 weeks like every other game.

>>2590948Yeah and make a month-long anniversary revisit with 2 weeks each game instead. This was the best two weeks we had in a while.
>>2591031I think a month for 2 games is too much honestly but 2 weeks for a revisit is fine.

>>2590469I think the difference is the playerbase and the activity of the general. RO, PSO2 and FFXI are all very active games despite being old, with thousands on at once. The generals are pretty active, going through new threads once a month sometimes once a week, and they all have in-game guilds for channers that are also active. Something like Tree of Savior barely scrapes double digits players and isn't lasting to the end of the year before it closed, and its general is a thread that was made in September 2025 and hasn't even hit a bump limit yet, solely kept alive by a single anon who bumps it once or twice a month, solely talking to himself. Legit he's just responding to his own messages with "updates" and stuff. And there's no in-game guild either because nobody's player, so we'd never intrude on another guild if we played as there's nobody to intrude upon.So IMO we shouldn't really disqualify a game from the running just because it has a general. Because I could look up one of the games that's in the running right for voting now, make a general for it, then constantly bump it myself. Which is basically what the Tree of Savior general anon is doing. Would that now mean the game that was in the voting list is now auto-dqed and kicked out of the list because I made a general?Again when it comes to that sort of stuff it should be based on:>Is the game still popular?>Is the general popular or is it just constantly necro-bumped?>Is the 4chan guild in that game still active?
Any other linux anon had any luck with nin? I'm using proton GE and the game keeps crashing...

This game feels really familiar so far, I swear I played this when it was a byond game. Not the graphics or the gameplay of course, but specifically the map layout of Leaf Village is extremely familiar to me, like I already know my way around for some reason. Or I keep having deja vu.
>Join game>Get welcomed>Get shown around>Get helped with questsReviewfags btfo
>>2592688but isnt that because you havent interacted with outside clans yet?
>>2592308I would be genuinely surprised in /tosg/ doesn't come to life the moment a server worth a shit launches. ToS is almost RO tier popularity with 4chan, in which case when it does, it won't be worthwhile starting for this project's purposes. If you'd like to include semi-dead generals, then I'll propose to you Tera online, another once popular MMO that /vm(g)/ had a stint in recent memory.
>>2592688>Says leaf is an erp den>They are a bunch of goofballs who larp as overtimed mercs, complaining that the wars never end, while keeping their juniors protected>Says sand is dead>They are coming back out of nowhere, with a mysterious giga nigga leading them, raising hell in all villages they touch>Says mist only have assholes>They are all gone, apparently undergoing some rebuilding after half of their higher echelon got purgedYou know, I think we should see the dates where the reviews come from before judging MMOs, those games live and die by critical patches, games been updated constantly ever since launch, so maybe most of the issues aren't there anymore? Not saying the game will be amazing. The level grind seems ass, and a few of the game mechanics are still going through revamps, but I don't think it will be bad as RF Online or dogshit like Ace and Icarus. We can get some fun out of it (I think)
Game is playable so far. I was worried there would be huge ping issues but I didn't encounter any.Gonna play more tomorrow, the jutsus seem fun.
>>2593000it's not even close to ro tier, interest in tos was just a small blip when the game launched and it was never a good game.basically no point making up hypothetical situations, most likely the game is going nowhere and it'll never have a server worth a shit because that would require turning it into a different game, the private server tech is about 15 years away from that happening at the rate it gets developed.
>>2593014As an EU it can get slightly laggy, like very slightly. Nothing too bad.

>>2594601First time? I think it's probably one or two schizos, they always complain when their gaemos don't win.Happened with Hellgate, PP, DDON and so on.Think most of them just want to see this project fail
>>2594601The locals have been dishing the dirty to me, basically:>Leaf has the reputation as the nice village and since the review bombs have been trying to be as newbie friendly as possible>Sand was full of trouble causing BRs until the game made a containment server and they all fucked off there so now Sand is mostly empty with an attempt to "revive it" every month>Mist and Leaf had a falling out. To be more specific there was a big clique fall out and a lot of Leaf ninjas splintered to Mist>All the ganking was basically a "war" between Mist and Leaf>The negative reviews it was creating (If you notice most of those reviews are between October 2025 - February 2026) caused the devs to act>They added a system where you can't get PKed until level 10, and made the PvP system toggleable>Leaf and Mist are apparently "chill" now because a lot of the troublemakers were banned, and they proceeded to review bomb in the process.
What are we thinking after the first day? I'm willing to keep playing it.
It kinda feels like the past bad aspects of the community were due to people not accepting its not a byond game anymore but a steam game that needs players and revenue.
>>2595155Same but I can see it getting exhausting real quick. The best thing so far is the community, very friendly and welcoming. The worst this is the missions are atrocious and I don't use that word often. Just a complete grindfest. They've all been kill [insert thing] missions and I'm level 5 and just got a "Kill 70" missions. Thats insane.
>>2594777>Think most of them just want to see this project failI just think they want their chosen games to win so they can be "guide guy" similar to how we have an anon for Nin right now and so they try to downplay other games in hope we'll vote for their game, then when their game doesnt win they complain of rigging. Cause they think if we play their game we'll think its amazing and absolutely the best MMO.
>>2595238>I just think they want their chosen games to win so they can be "guide guy" Holy shit I think you are absolutely right
>>2595155game is ass I turned in the quest at the south of starting village than it doesnt give you any follow up and I ran around looking for anything and couldnt find anything. I alt f4ed and uninstalled already not playing 2 weeks of this garbage ass rpg maker game
>>2595155It's neat for what it is, albeit somewhat shallow initially. The moment-to-moment gameplay early on certainly seems kinda sluggish; particularly in its movement, which is pretty ironic for a game all about ninja (you can definitely feel the BYOND roots with this one). And the grind is most certainly there, as others have remarked on already. But its aesthetics are quite nice, the novelty of getting to larp as a 2000s-era Naruto extra in [current year] is appealing in its own self-aware sort of way, and the community surrounding the title has been surprisingly welcoming of us so far - in stark contrast with what we'd been warned about before. From what I've gathered from some of the locals, Nin Online is more of a slower burn than first appearances might suggest. A large portion of your EXP comes from Daily Missions, plus whatever Quests you happen to stumble into, rather than just raw monster slaying for hours on-end (although you can still do that if you really want to).Suggests to me that this is one intended to be played over quite a lengthy period of time, gradually unlocking more of your classes' kit and networking/rping with regulars within your village, rather than one you're expected to rush to max level in. Hop on, knock out your dailies with the lads, go find quests out in the wider world, maybe partake in some PvP once you're strong enough, and hop off. Which is fine, although such a casual structure does rub against our strict time limits for the project.Slower burns can work so long as there's enough to chew on near the start, however (see the largely-positive reception to SWG during its revisit for that), so we'll see how this one pans out over time.
>>2595371You forgot to compare the game with Icarus this time shitposter-kun!And don't forget your ointment for your butt hurty!
>>2595405tell me where to go then Im not going to sit there for 20 minutes with a thumb up my ass grinding mobs for no purpose I dont mind if I have to 800 of them for a quest but I need a quest to get me to do it
>>2595374I heard it's possible to get to level 50 in a week or two, but it requires advanced knowledge.
>>2595371If only there was a tutorial that told you where to get daily quests...
>>2595464didnt another anon say not to do daily quests
>>2595466I don't see the reason for that unless you are planning to grind for 18 hours straight, maybe I don't understand something. Just don't spend any daily quest resets.
>>2595466If you are playing around the night (for burger anons), dailies are alright, since they refresh fast. Just take your time, do dailies and dip til you unlock the story stuff
>>2595155You can definitely feel the BYONDness about it. I dunno if its unintentionally out of habit or if its intentional for nostalgia/thats what they're going for. Even the pixel art style is very reminiscent of the sprites from that GBA Naruto game that were ripped to use in a variety of Naruto games on BYOND. Again, I dunno if its intentional to evoke nostalgia, subconscious because thats what the pixel artists were used to doing, or if they initially used those sprites (everyone did) and just evolved the graphics from it over time by editing them. The water graphics in particular are still nearly exact to that GBA game.
>>2595466I'm being told conflicting info because apparently dailies are where you get the EXP.
>>2595466>>2595484Anon that suggested that here. There are two reasons. The first is that the missions between 1 - 15 are poorly designed, give low experience and do not respect your time. The second is that Lv 15 is achievable in 4-5 hours of gameplay, and due to this you are better off saving your daily missions for higher tiered ones because they give out more experience. Basically, you're trading missions that give 2k - 8k experience for missions that give 20k - 30k. But I highly suggest what anon said >>2595517 too, you will still be within reach with the rest of the crew.
>>2595155Community seems nicer than people were saying, I like the movement, combat seems extremely basic but its still low levels, missions are boring and extremely grindy either "Kill this" "Pick up this" or "Find this person" and its always a stupid grindy amount like 50. The gathering system sucks and I hate it.
>>2595155I'll keep playing it. I'm liking it. Ended up rolling sand village since my friends and I didn't think we would play for longer than a few hours. Since there's multiplate char slots I'll definitely make a leaf ninja. The GM posted in the /v/ thread and said he's going to host more low level events to participate in. Pretty sure I've seen his name in images from the other bMMO group images so he's definitely been playing with you all for at least a bit.

>>2596840Cause it's not hard to not notice 20 players showing overnight, all making a guild and speaking like we do.
>>2595155It was fun, I expected it to be a PK fest, but I enjoyed my time with all ya goobers today, statf and the veterans were all pretty friendly with us, they gave us a few tips and ideas that we can use in the future. This game might ass as a solo player, but doing it as a group put things into another perspective. Most quests seem to be made with that in mind, all the kill x quests count as a group and quest rely on drop, use the generic, trash vendor the mobs would drop usually, instead of gating it behind a quest flag, so you would often have someone with those materials already in their posessions. We should definitely visit Kinzen once we reach level 15+, there is a casino, a monster arena where we can bet on mobs and a few other things there, seems fun.also make sure to appreciate your healers, they help a ton

fuck itdoes Trove qualify for this project?still retail, but certainly not in its prime. voxel style MMORPG where content is mostly community-built dungeons in a procgen open world. progression to max level for any one class is short, which means you'll get to see what your kit does well before two weeks, but there's a slow burn to get passive stats for your account so you'll have something to work towards if you like ithas a whole passive skill tree for fishing and a side activity for diving into caves which has its own separate progression (unfortunately much slower, but it's a fun one)i'll admit it's been a long time since i played personally, so i'm not sure if it's added some other bullshit too, but there's usually something that changes the endgame to something completely unrecognizable each year, so i'll have to lookit's definitely a bit p2w and slot machiney, but we've played ArcheAge i think, and it's got the same Patron system essentially.

Gonna offer my own suggestions: Terra: The Battle for Outlands and The Realm Online. The two first MMOs. Terra is a tank/vehicle game that is the first MMO ever and The Realm Online is the first MMORPG. Both were launched before the term MMO or MMORPG was a thing, which was coined from Ultima Online, the 5th MMO ever. They're both still up, and I think they'd be cool for historical reasons to check like the earliest of the earliest. Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds is the 3rd MMO ever and first Asian MMO.
>>2597153We played puzzle pirates and way more lobb-y games, it certainly qualifies
>>2597188>The Realm Onlinethat one and Nexus are already in the game lists.Terra sounds interesting, did you ever play it?
>>2597301Nope, I just discovered it when looking into it. When playing SWG the question came up as to if its in the first MMOs released, which its in the first 30. And looking at the list, Terra is the first not counting Gemstone which is a MUD. Its the first MMO as its not an RPG but like a tank shooty game where you do missions, but it counts as the first MMO as it was the first not to have a game in a limited player lobby but in a wide open world with large numbers of players on it.
>>2597188>another NexusTK anonnyice

>>2597487>sorry you didn't get to be the "guide guy."all guide guys should fuck off, you people ruin the experience of discovering the game ourselves
>>2597487Oh since you're here, is it true Sand was full of BRs? Also be honest did you make the BR server as a containment server?
>>2597487Transformation is a neat jutsu. I'm glad its a thing kek.
>>2597421I dont believe this because its always gonna be temporary so whats the point? I think its more people see an MMO they play or like on the list and get over excited and wanna show it off and then get salty if it doesn't win, and if it does win they go overboard and become "the guide guy." And I think they do that because they want to show us all the cool things about the game.>>2597491Agreed, part of this project is about discovery. Even if we hate the game first, its cool when I finally start understanding it and learning to like it. And I get why people wanna help us through so we don't write off the game instantly because the first few levels are adruous, and they wanna show us all the cool stuff about the game, or cool things we won't get to see in two weeks. But It makes the experience of playing an MMO for the first time less authentic. Don't hide the warts of the game, let us see them. Its about the good and bad.
>>2597498yes, sand village was initially full of BR players, although there were some of them in every village. i haven't heard the BR server described as "containment" but it's fitting. weirdly enough it's doing better than the NA server right now.>>25975039 out of 10 tryhard sweatlord players will tell you to drop transform (you can only know a limited number of jutsus at a time, and there are """better""" things that need the slot). they're full of shit and they don't even play the game, they just sit in village sparring until an autoevent shows up (two situations where transform jutsu gives no mechanical advantage). transform is the most soulful ability in the game, never unlearn it.>>2597491>>2597521i can understand their frustration, and i agree with the points the second post makes. learning and discovering how things work in this game is great. a big part of the source material is "mentorship" and the game conveys this very well through mechanics that are hard to understand until someone teaches and demonstrates to you ingame. "guide guys" would love nin, once they get over the hurdle of having to learn the game before they can teach others.
y'all unironically managed to let some random nigger take over the project to shill his own game, pathetic

Stolen assets aside, the game has a very similar gameplay loop as ragnarok, with the main difference being daily quests. You get out, you grind mobs, you get drops and you sell em for gold.Main issue I'm having is, a lot like ragnarok, game is stingy with healing. You can grind for hours if you have a healer or a very nice local to heal you but if you're a dps you are gonna have a bad time.Problem is, ragnarok had A LOT of misc drops, you could get enough money to sustain yourself with pots, or ranged jobs could pick off mobs at a distance. Here drops are rare and sell for nothing, pots are SUPER FUCKING EXPENSIVE and it takes a while before you can really pick stuff off with your jutsus...

>>2597153>>2597180>>2597189actually i change my mind, retail Trove is still a bum asking for money 5 seconds after you start talking to him>second to last feature added is the Star Chart, where you gather some new material rarely from standard dungeon runs (this material is capped at a very low amount hourly) and turn it in to unlock nodes on a passive skill tree>"major" nodes are instead unlocked with Constellation Keys, which, rather than being bought with those aforementioned materials, are bought with 1300 Cubits (the 'free' cash shop currency that you need for literally everything else and get 900 of per day)>after the first major node that needs 3, further nodes need 12, 22, 36, and even morethis feature probably wouldn't even come up in a 2 week run for new players, but it made me remember how many OTHER earlier things needed ridiculous mass amounts of Cubits to progress and usually had almost zero returns in that same vein. We've talked about certain games just being ridiculous skinner boxes in retail, but this one only gives you one treat and expects you to fall for the trap immediately. I wouldn't recommend until it dies properly and gets a private server.(Also, it's been nearly a decade and it still just randomly crashes on even good machines. It'd be annoying even without thinking about the gameplay.)

>>2600443Barely. The server is on maintenance mode pretty much and its kept alive by like 5 - 10 Whales who buy all their furry cash shop stuff. If it wasn't for that, Arc or whoever owns it now would have closed CO years ago. The remaining employees which is like 10 of them, and 8 of them are part time on CO and part time on Star Trek Online and just pop in to do the maintenance every month, have all resigned themselves that its a furry game anymore, not a superhero game and cater all their new cash shop cosmetics around furry shit. They've not at a superhero theme cash shop item in years. This is what I saw when I logged in, checking the Ren Center and checking the cash shop. There was currently 306 people online. Do flash games with online progression and lobbies count? I recently remembered DDtank still exists and it would he fun as a minigame or a short experience, gameplay is hella different from what we are used too, since it's basically RPG-y WORMs
>>2602626I used to play this, certainly a unique one.
>>2602255i do love me some fun, wish pp pirates had some of that
>>2602613Still one of the best video game OSTs
>>2602668LaTale's OST is a true 10/10 gem among the KMMO circuit.Long ago, when LaTale was a potential pick as a finalist, a big sticking point against the sole private server available for the game at the time - Project Belos - was its baffling decision to replace the game's outstanding soundtrack with various remixes from other vidya. Even if loads of quality-of-life features and pay2win reductions were in place compared to the official client, the notion of its OST being replaced was enough to turn people off. They weren't bad remixes, granted, but... You don't do that to LaTale. That'd be like replacing the Maplestory soundtrack, it simply isn't done.Of course, Project Belos has been dead for nearly two years at this point, so the official client would be our only option for that one if it ever gets selected.
>>2602824I can't imagine private servers would be much different from official, anyway.Unless there were a server with an older version, but that has its own issues like server sided gameplay which feels terrible.
>>2602610That looks even more straight up BYONDish, especially graphics wise.
>>2601051Damn Donkey Kong got hot.

>>2602610I think I had enough of byond for a lifetime at this point.
Looking into the development history of nin online it seems that it's an evolution of the past indie naruto mmos that popped up momentarily and suddenly disappeared overtime. Probably the difference between Pirate Soul and Nin is the effort put into both and why the One Piece mmo seems more dead than the Naruto game. It seems more like a failed side project to test mechanics. https://www.ninonline.com/forum/history/ Only reason I looked into it because I saw the statue of Robin Perris in the leaf graveyard and was curious who he was.
Is Digimon Battle/Digimon RPG Online in the list? They re-released the global version of the game a while ago, barren af, but seems cool, it's a bit similar to wakfu combat wise
>>2603631I'm guessing the 110 peak from 3.9 years ago was people from Nin checking it out because it was probably shilled hard on Nin.
>>2603631Nin still seems to have some things going yeah, dunno how only Femto been on the team, but he's one of the main game artists now, he revamped a few maps in the past weeks. While the community is smoll as fuck, game doesn't seem that dead. >>2603706Likely, Pirate souls seem dunno, cheaper? In comparison to Nin, down to how the lights work in both games.>>2603298When that happened besides Nin? Didn't see any since I joined you guys during Icarus
>>2603724Every single poll won by a game I don't like was obviously rigged.
>>2603724>Likely, Pirate souls seem dunno, cheaper? It looks literally like a BYOND game. Those are BYOND graphics, pic related. What BYOND Naruto games used to look like. Most likely Nin has had lots of work done to it over the years to make it look less BYONDish, while Pirate Souls is literally just a direct port. They took the game and slapped it on steam.
>>2603631The fact that its so dead makes it perfect for this project. It was initially about barren games after all.
>>2602414>call me the guide guy>when i specifically say i think anons would hate the gameFuck you kiddo
DK Online and Prison Tale bros.. we're out..
Can we stop with this "guide guy" bullshit? It's normal that there are people who played this game or that game before.
>>2603298Which were the other times? Puzzle Pirates I'm guessing, but what else?In any case, is it really so bad if devs are shilling their shit in here? I played Nin Online a long while ago solo and I hated it.To me it seems like thanks to the community and the lead dev welcoming the project with open arms, everyone is engaging with and enjoying this one far more than I did as an unremarkable solo newbie.
>>2604528>>2604480Yeah Puzzle Pirates and I'm aware that there's gonna be games that people have played before. In fact I think almost every game we've played has had one person who's played before but there's playing alongside us and then there's using your high levels for anything other than guild creation if its needed to create a guild.I don't think its devs shilling their shit just more people who are enthusiastic that we're playing their fave MMO. And they wanna show us all the good stuff, and skip over the early game slog if there is one, so we'd get to the good stuff quick. And I get why its just I think part of the spirit of mmod is everyone starting from scratch together and going through it from the start, even if the start sucks. We experience the good and the bad. Thats why even on Anniversary revisits we make new characters rather than go on our old ones.I mean I'm fine with advice and info its just sometimes they have a tendency to shatter the discovery period of the first few days by powerlevelling and such. I get that it comes from a place of excitement though.
>>2604777I'll reiterate a previous point I made that I don't think it matters either way. Lots of people get into games because their friends invite them, or get powerleveled by a guildy, or whatever. Both experiencing the whole thing fresh and solo and experiencing it through the lens of an experienced mentor are legitimate ways the game organically could have been experienced. It's not great to have an experienced guide try and skip you past the legitimately bad parts of the game, but it's also not great to obsess over a pure and unaltered experience of the game to the point that you become BeaterKirito, who never accepts help and grinds through every slog even when any real player would have figured out how to circumvent it.
>>2604528>In any case, is it really so bad if devs are shilling their shit in here?Yes.
>>2605064Articulate your argument or sugma.
>>2604480It's a little silly that there's a sentiment of "everyone has to play COMPLETELY blind" because there's no goddamn way you're voting in a 20 name list without knowing at least one of them. It'd make sense that people might be off put by someone going "yeah i'm going to skip 90% of content for you guys!!!" (although from what it looks like, we mainly just skipped gathering funds via lazing around on a public ship in PP so i don't see as much of a crime there), but it kinda looks like a few people are expecting you to just vote for the text on a screen and worry about looking it up after it wins.I don't agree with a dev directly shilling their shit, and honestly if a game has under 50 playercount or something it's not too far out of line to think that. Animyst's devs are highly responsive to swells in playercount, so they'll probably start talking to people if we ever do choose that, but I doubt they'd willingly throw their game here as they're working on a new (hopefully not assetflipped) project. But there's no way Nin is organic if we put up Pirate Souls too. That would be too convenient.
>>2605091I'd like to believe nin was organic and wasn't shilled. There's no reason to do another BYOND style game for a hot minute after Nin. With that being said, I'd like to take fento at face value from his response in the first /v/ thread that he had no sway/partaking in the voting for nin.
We're leaving in a week and a half so idk if it matters whether it's organic or not
>>2605119>>2605091Femto only noticed it was us because y'all kept talking about "da group", as an anon, he went and checked the thread. You will notice how the events and veterans started treating us since Sunday, compared to Saturday.Pirate souls seems like pure slopaware, don't touch it
>>2605166Fair.
>why would anyone come here and advertise their MMOs/servers if we leave anywaysare we forgetting there are literal paid shills on /v/. we literally do it for free for 2 weeks, AND play their game. it's the biggest payback to investment one could do. I'm surprised it hasn't been done sooner
>>2605350>there are paid shills on /v/No, anon. It's not "there are". Every time you go on /v/, you are willfully exposing yourself to dozens of paid advertisements disguised as legitimate posts. At least 80% of the posts on /v/ are done by marketers.

>>2605241>y'allIm nooticing
>>2605350>>2605387>>2605395But why would they even do that? Most of the time, when someone advertise a game in /v/ it gets dogpilled, then buried, specially indie ones.I also don't know what nintendo has to gain by making weekly Pyra erp threads

I was busy at the time, but what happened? Seems most anons didn't even bother to revisit, while SWG had a huge crew of anons
>>2609446>Seems most anons didn't even bother to revisit, while SWG had a huge crew of anonsWeird start and SWG is just a more interesting game imo. The cute and funny pawns some people had maybe played a part in driving some people off too
>>2609474Yeah DDO start sucked balls, and I found the combat to be a bit weird. Dunno if I am too used to rollsouls, but I found the dodging to be ass. Hunter also played very weirdly
>>2609446>>2609474What is this horseshit you retarded cunts keep pushing? We had around 10 people playing both games.

>>2609502>>2609507On screenshot day we had at least 7 show up for DDON vs around 10 for SWG.This narrative is retarded as fuck.
>>2609541>7 show up for DDON vs around 10 for SWG.already moving the goalposts eh?>>2609498
>>2609546That's just screenshot day, man. It's hard evidence there wasn't some dearth of people for DDON.Stop being obtuse as fuck.

>>2608191nah maybe half the /v/ threads die in a few hours, but some do stay a good part of the day, or even whole day. it takes very little to shill games here, easy effort for a single shill and not like the voters here need anything else to go by. also don't forget the DDO server owner openly came here and essentially thanked this project for renewing interest in his game, which I'm cool with since he's being open and honest a bout it.I'm not the guy schizoing out, but I'm with him in nooticing there's been exceptional enthusiasm in the current title and a bunch of "we're one of y'all amirite" posts. not saying it's the GM, but likely their population getting too excited and trying to garner interest here.
>>2609614God, I wish
>>2609907I am here for you anon :]

DDON is just a more than 1-2 weeks game, it's pretty grindy and the combat opens up at the higher levels, I personally didn't play it again because the early game is by far the most boring part.

>>2609446DDO had 0 threads on /v/, same server as last time so anons with high level characters and a confusing UI.SWG is a very confusing game on its own but it had threads on /v/, a more PC oriented UI (despite being WORSE than DDO in a lot of aspects) and in a brand new server so everyone was starting brand new.>>2609474>The cute and funny pawns some people had maybe played a part in driving some people off tooThis is cope and retarded
>>2610696So we can agree that the clique insisting we played in the same server as before ruined everyone's experience, and we should, for future revisits, always go for a different server, right? The anon who organized the DDO pool should be raped
>>2610740I think it scared people off more than it really hindered the experience.DDO is unique in that, if you equip a new class, voila, you're level 1.I can see this being an issue depending on the game but in DDOs case, not much. All that being said, for a week revisit, maybe let the oldfags revisit their character / guild hall, in some games thats fun. If we are moving to a 2 week format for revisits def try to prioritize other servers

>>2610740There were some people in this thread saying "You guys are too far ahead on that server so I'm not playing" but I dunno if they were just shit stirring or serious.
>>2610696>>2610696>DDO had 0 threads on /v/I think some people on here greatly underestimate the impact of /v/ threads sometimes. I found you guys through /v/ threads, and I think a lot of people on Nin right now with us are from the /v/ thread. I don't think that they work as well for Random Korean MMO #74 but they work really well for games that they used to play as kids and will evoke nostalgia. Stuff like Toontown and Puzzle Pirates it worked really well for. It worked well for Nin as it evoked that BYOND game nostalgia in some. I think the /v/ threads also work for those games that used to have a strong /v/ guild community that eventually died down. E.g. Wakfu.
>>2610907Nin Online is very flawed but I still like it, especially now I'm out of the first 15 levels where 90% of the flaws are. I think I'm more forgiving towards it as the Dev team seem very aware of those flaws and are trying to actively fix them.
>>2611396It's a shame since I also came from /v/ and Dragons Dogma is a very beloved game in /v/ 2nd game even has some fans but thats another story.

>>2613115Evidently not as DDO had low turnout
>>2609829>DDO server owner openly came here and essentially thanked this project for renewing interest in his gameThat wasn't the server owner. He's the dev for the main project for reverse engineering the game and server code. But he doesn't host any server himself.

>>2615530>>2600187no it's not?
>>2615462I remember one Saint Seiya game but it was in china and required some sort of document or chinese ID to create an account. Is that the same one?

>>2615640No, this is a fan project based on a brazillian fan project that was based on this china game. It's basically a Worlo clone, but you have territory battles for sanctuary, can play as a Hades, Athena or Poseidon cloth, and Divine cloths are limited to giga nigas who control certain sanctuaries

>>2619813Out of all things the fucking jumping quest is what filtered you out?
>>2619813so it's not very clear nor is it explained well but you can jump from rooftop to rooftop by holding jump. You will first do a short in-place hop and then an indicator will show where you land. Keep on holding it until it shows that you will land on the next building. To reach the guy you want to start at the building to the left with the random furniture outside you can jump up easily. Then you want to go north one or two buildings. Then east. Then south to land on the building with the guy. You can also ask a local for help. That's what i ended up doing.
>>2619813This quest is optional, you can just choose not to do it.
>>2619813If you get so frustrated about something like that it would be better for you to just not play the game.

>>2620212when is nym going to invite me to one of her beach sex parties...(she is confirmed biofem btw)
>>2620361I mean if they don't like the jump quest how are they gonna like anything else? The insane grind, the ganky pvp? The grind after the stupid grind? So they know their style and limits.
>>2620993Is this you?
>>2620187>>2620361Yeah something I'm having to acknowledge to myself is if I was a solo player I'd have quit days ago. In a way veteran players and GMs pushing us past the shit content is absolutely against the spirit of mmod but its the only way this game is gonna survive 2 weeks.
>>2624085I dunno, it's not like we went out of their way to get help from them, we just talked with the players, the staff started to notice us, and then tried to help. Since the whole community, rp and inter-village politics is a huge part of the game itself, having our arses helped by them doesn't feel that weird, think some anons are being a bit too pendantic about it.What made me enjoy the overall experience here is how the community interacted with us, most of the games we played were bretty barren, or what players that didn't even talk with us. While the bread and butter of the game is pure unwashed dogshit, the experience regarding the "social aspect" of the game, was quite unique
>>2624415I'd say the exact same with Puzzle Pirates too. Puzzle Pirates is ultimately a social game.
>>2624473Yeah, that's why I don't understand why some anons were complaining about it during pp either, you aren't supposed to tryhard marine missions for a week straight before getting a ship for yourself, the intended way is for you to become a swabbie for a high level crew, learn from them, be carried by them, and then get your own ship and crew after you get strong enough, it's basically the same with Nin
>>2624647Just theorising but I think maybe two of these types of community driven online games so close to each other was overkill. We'll be back into business next time as all the games in the lead vote wise are all just traditional MMOs you can get lost in.
>>2624647The game mechanics also enforce this. Navy missions give much better rewards on fresh severs and then decrease in value as the server progresses.

>>2628892Yeah Latale is basically our way of playing Maplestory. Aion right now is pertinent in that it just got a sequel announced. So either are pretty good choices.
>>2625644The reviews seem to indicate it's against the spirit of the game, too. Allegedly the veterans would just prefer to cockblock you instead.
>>2624647I think it hurt more in PP because we weren't supposed to peer past that veil so early and realize the only thing you'd want the bigger ship for is to add a new block to the same puzzles you were already doing (or in a much bigger ship's case, autoplay every aspect besides combat-related puzzles)Nin is way less egregious, it probably only feels artificial because people were told it was as annoying as a Roblox PVP game before they started getting handheld instead.>>2626187I didn't have time to play enough of SWG, but I did see the initial thread complain about it not being old content only. It also seemed way too generous with the MSQ, but that's just a gut take. I had fun, but I'm not blind.

>>2629447>I didn't have time to play enough of SWG, but I did see the initial thread complain about it not being old content only.A lot of it was /v/ tourists though. Generally any MMO with private servers has private server console wars.
>>2629479Is Maplestory viable for /mmod/ or is it too popular? What about Mapleclassic or a Private Server?
I had a lot of fun with puzzle pirates and I dont like the narrative that quitters are spin ing that we "did it wrong" or it was a "bad fit" or whatever. It's a perfectly good MMO with some difficult content and a bit of PvP to pick up the slack where the content can't.
>>2630037It's just the usual whining because their game didn't win. Puzzle Pirates was rich and fun enough to last the full two weeks and make people wish it had a third one. Also, arguing "it's a social game", as if there's anything wrong with that, is stupid. MMOs are supposed to be social games.
>>2629536looks fun and have we played a side scroller mmo yet?
Nin Online now just feels like its own thing seperate from /mmod/ at this point and will probably be one of those where the thread continues beyond the two weeks.
>>2630347That is so isletesque...
>>2630347Every game gets some anons that stick around for longer, I think there are still anons playing SWG and DDO since the anniversary
>>2630241This is something that I don't get it as well, seems the average silentfag prefers skinnerboxes that can be grinded to hell and back alone, they barely show up in the /g and then pop once for photoday. If we had IPs, there's a high chance some of those same anons would the ones who were bitching about Iris requiring parties during early game and for dungeon diving. If a game is played mostly alone, it sucks for those project, since it go against the idea of gathering a bunch of shitters to run esoteric MMOs of old

>>2636684Shroud seems cool.
I was reading on Aion and you have to find a specific version of it before it went f2p or you are playing some total abomination that has nothing in common with the original game.
>>2636684Also random fact but the Defiance MMO also had a connected Sci-Fi show. The concept was the events of the show would affect the events of the MMO and vice versa. The show was cancelled after a season.
>>2636697I am pretty interested in it, its just my worry is that a lot of Mr. Britain's MMOs are overhyped.
>>2636684i thought aion was some korean anime shit
>>2636739>concept was the events of the show would affect the events of the MMO >show gets cancelled>game servers shut down in responseKINOOO
>>2636758It's a Korean WoW clone.
>>2636739>The show was cancelled after a season. No, it had three seasons. No idea why some people spout the single season line.>>2636764The game ran long after the show was cancelled. The thing is the crossover was almost entirely abandoned from the get go, I think maybe two characters from the game ended up on the show and that was it.
>>2636739>>2636764>>2636777If Defiance wins one day, we MUST watch the series in the movie nivth
>>2636893Stahma Tarr is bae
>>2636777>No idea why some people spout the single season line.Probably because nobody actually watched it kek.
when is the next movie night

Worlo bros, we coming home
I played Aion in like 2011. The only thing I remember from it is your character can have blue hair, and the kino menu theme which has probably changed by now.
>>2638029yeah it's a pretty forgettable game
>>2638029>>2638038Think the reason anons want to play it now it's cause the global version of AION 2 is coming ouf soon.Wonder if we can even get to raiding there tho, been a while since we played a game which allowed us to do that
>>2638063if that is the case then it's really only for the lore
>>2638067I don't even think AION of all games has a lore worth following, it's no pre wod worlo or ff.Wouldn't even be surprised if 2 had nothing do with the first, since the second game plays more like a ARPG skinner box, since the game is pretty much based around the idea of griding the same mobs forever passive stats and titles
>>2638101>ARPG skinner boxNah, it's BnS reskinned, it's a dungeon/raid grinder.
>>2638129BnS?
>>2638216Blade and Soul
Ninja movie night tomorrow, Wednesday, at the usual time. First movie will play at 21:00 UTC. We'll probably go through the typical ~3 movies.Countdown timer here:https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/chinese?iso=20260624T17&p0=615&msg=Ninja+Movie+Night&font=hand&csz=1Vote for your favorites here:https://strawpoll.com/kjn1DOGxeyQTrailers:>Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_MPIBPbbY8>TMNT (2007)https://youtu.be/iLlz_AFcZMA?is=Bxg4WvwWdUl_SWU->3 Ninjas (1992)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jF_9prQFtik>Beverly Hills Ninja (1997)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOpl2S0aDiM>Surf Ninja (1993)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKCVZzkrTCM>I want to be Neenja: The Movie (2024)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU1lq7AwijM>The Ninja Squad (1986)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvlv41haIx0>Black Ninja aka Ninja: Silent Assassin (1987)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTgno_4sleo>New York Ninja (2021 release, shot in 1984)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1wMt3fgOyM>American Ninja 2: The Confrontation (1987) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImIJwinvey4>Octagon (1980)https://youtu.be/U6Icsg0O3jk?is=twUyNg00RY8vJllR...You guys sure love your ninjas. Due to an overflow of recommendations, I've cut the tangential non-ninja movies out of the poll but have added them to our backlog. On that note, am I tripping balls or haven't we already seen Samurai Cop?
>>2638530>am I tripping balls or haven't we already seen Samurai Cop?I dont think we have, maybe you're thinking of Enter The Ninja or Ninja Terminator. I can't find any reference to Samurai Cop in the /vm/ archive at least.
>>2638063Thats why I voted for it, it's pertinent right now due to the Aion 2 announcement and it's back on people's radars.
>>2638063With Wakfu I remember we were JUST starting to do the hard content but it was time to go. On the final hour of the final day we did a superboss.
>>2638530>TMNT (2007)Why not the 90s live action version?
>>2638833Because the 2007 one was the one anon suggested. 90's live action could've also been fun though, yeah.
Holy Latale sweep
>>2639994Very sus voting pattern, I demand a recount.
>>2638833Oh, I just find the 2007 CGI version more entertaining, although, it might be due to nostalgia bias
>>2639994Funny how long it took for a maple story clone to be voted. Guess people just needed a reminder that it existed
Not if I can change it.
>>2640246you guys say this for every game
>>2640519Not true, I only say this when a game I don't want is winning. When the game I want wins, everything's regular and perfectly legit.
>>2640519Yes anon, I am 100% super serious about demanding a recount you utter buffoon.
Watch Rose online creep upon the vote and win
Was hellgate london fun as a group? I have been too busy.
>>2641248hg was one of the better games we've played recently but it was mostly a lobby game but when anons did group it was fun just mowing through demons
>>2641248Yeah, it was hella short though, by the first week most of us had already completed the game. But the gameplay loop was fun
>>2641248It was kinda bad.
>>2638530Time's up, here are our movies for the night.I'll be fetching the links for the movie. Feel free to join while we listen to some music:https://hyperbeam.com/app/room/zMCev-AJS9CbYgYzs7elvAInvite for newfrens (let me know if it expires):https://hyperbeam.com/i/MuZD8YT2
>>2641787tragic results
>>2641248Yes but lobby games frustrate some anons>>2640246As long as a high level or GM doesn't magically pop up out of nowhere offering to guide us its all good.
>>2642000Did something like that ever happened
>>2642000I don't get it why there is such a vocal crowd against lobby games, by sheer numbers, I think Tunnel Snakes have been one of the most sucessful nonny guilds in the past months
>>2642127it's autistic retards who get hung up on the definition of what an MMO is
>>2642133it's not, it's people that remember the dozen or so gook 4 player instanced lobby games and how repetitive and shit they were. I liked hellgate a lot because it was very different from our usual fare, but I'll get the urge to rip my dick off again when the next Closers/Phantasy Star/Dragon Nest/C9/etc comes around.
>>2642175Phantasy Star was kino, why are you lying?
>>2642227>muh kinookay then, absolutist-anon
>>2642127From what I've seen people say when they complain about it, it's the idea that it "makes each other difficult to find" and "We don't always get to play" which is incorrect.
>>2642661Hellgate pretty much deboonked dat.Icarus was fully "open", but we got no parties going, I think it's not a matter of instanced or open world, it's all down to how much content the game has
>>2642961I just never really understood those sorts of complaints. Most typical MMO Parties are 4 - 8 players in a team, and once the team is full, everyone else is left out and doesn't get to play. Its basically the same thing as a lobby except smaller. Lobby based allows more people.
Hellgate was pretty bunk though, could barely manage the repetitive grind after a week let alone the two whole weeks
>>2642175I like those games though, like the other anon said it's really no different when MMOs usually have a party cap of 4-8 anyway, you just waste less time on meaningless garbage like quests and traversing an empty world, full on gameplay only, and they tend to have better gameplay because it has to be good when it's the entire game
>>2643797Yeah, i'd take going mission to mission in PSU and Hellgate than doing whatever the hell Icarus and Fiesta Online worlds were
>>2641843Seriously, they didn't watch 3 Ninjas? That shit was my childhood.
>>2643835PSU was the most mind numbingly simple gameplay though
>>2643797>meaningless garbage like quests and traversing an empty worldMaybe you just dont like MMOs?
>>2643957Would you say Icarus has a thriving, living world instead of a bunch of assets stapled together?
>>2643957Everyone says this when you criticize bad things in MMOs, maybe those things just aren't fun and that's why all these games died?
>>2643971Maybe 99% of the MMOs are cash grab slops or got enshittifited to hell and back?
>>2644031So it would be natural to not like them, yes?
>>2644035you shouldnt be in this project if you dont like the basics of mmos
>>2644085which you're saying are soulless empty open worlds and collecting bear asses to give to an npc, and definitely not the multiplayer online gameplay aspects?
>>2644085You don't get to decide that.
>>2644101>not the multiplayer online gameplay aspects?Go play vrchat you goonmonkey
>>2644116As the boss I decided he gets to decide that
>>2644121vrchat has no gameplay though?
>>2644168Proof?
>>2635354>>2639994wtf, I just checked La Tale's steam page and it received a content update a week ago.I thought it was giga deadhttps://store.steampowered.com/news/app/721030/view/677375815308020337>New Episode: Devil's Whisper × Path of Choice>The new episode arrives in two phases. Devil's Whisper expands the world with a new town and a new field, two new dungeons (one for 4-player parties and one for 8-player parties), and four new boss monsters to take on. Path of Choice continues with new progression systems — headlined by Dungeon Points — plus updated Special Enchant and Awakening Stone Crafting.
>>2644443It was extremely dead under OGP, it was re-released under Papaya and they keep it up to date with the KR version which is much more popular. It's still fucking dead though, you only see a few people idling in town and that's about it.
>>2644447Town? Isn't this game a sidescroller instanced dungeon diving game?
>>2644511It's like maplestory, you have towns and a world on top of instances, in fact most of the levelling is done through the world and not instances, grinding dungeons is more of an endgame thing.
LET'S LA TALE!!
>>2644519Fair enough, never played maple or latale, thought those were similar to GrandChase, which is basically a uber grindy instance diving
>>2641787>>2641843>>2643899I voted for 3 ninjas but who people who voted for american ninja 2 didnt even stick around and that movie was ASS. I actually suffered and tried to watch it all the way through but it was so fucking boring
>>2644594I didn't vote but I was hella sleepy and dipped after TMNT, sorry anon.It was worse than the tutie movie?
>>2644594I didnt vote for it thats why I dipped my top three were Naruto, Beverly Hills Ninja, TMNT
>>2644609beverly hills ninja had its moments but american ninja had no redeeming qualities. on the level of dragonball evolution of a movie so bad you never want to watch it again, unlike a bad movie like the room where its so bad its funny
>>2635354aionfag here, it's not really the type of game that'd be enjoyable for an MMOD>zones are post-cataclysm and on the gloomy and depressing side>leveling experience is questslop, was boring and uninspiring, and servers likely don't have organic population to support low level rifting (invading the other faction's zone to gank them)>max level PvE is boring busywork and tons of trash mob clearing>the big raids have unintuitive punishing mechanics that you have to look up on top of big stat checks, usually in the form of stupidly tanky adds>pvp has depth to it but is full of stat and knowledge checks before that pointit'd be okay if it was a freshly launched server, but the likely choices would be filled with 1000hr+ vets who just want to duel or gank while afking in town
>>2644821>Aion is a pvp gankfestAgain? What's with the pvp games lately?
>>2644880>What's with the pvp games lately?Warhammerbros, that's our sign!
>>2644892I wish, still salty that I couldn't play as a SIGMAR CHOSEN
>>2644880The majority of the games on both lists are pvp mmorpgs
>>2644880Rylbros we're back
>>2644594American Ninja 2 is non-stop fight scenes though, at least in the first half. I actually watched it on the TV after leaving the hyperbeam lel, though I did fall asleep halfway through.
>>2644880We were voting other games on the list because we didnt wanna play the pvp ones and thats all thats left.
>>2645729By the end of this adventure we will be the strongestOr we will have determined that pvp games really are ass
>>2645798>Tfw we adquire control of the H&H server after two arduous week of being bullied by 5000h+ hour vets
