Man, Turnabout Guard on Beast actually feels pretty good. Love tanking a rocket and ignoring everything my opponents do until they mess up and get caught. It's keeping me alive in yo-yo mode surprisingly often too. I'm missing the ninjutsu and energy from Berserker though

Going from turfs to this is a shock to the system man.
This is the last "playable" mode in the whole game that's not a special gamemode. This is what people play on the regular.
Turfs really spoiled us with how it's comparatively better to the rest of the game.

Well, to be more precise it probably lost support because they rushed it out like dumbasses. Recent interviews say they considered it a success, so maybe they never had high hopes for it in the first place and just wanted to test the waters. Ninjala 2 seems to be addressing a lot of issues, complaints, and requests from the first game after all

It launched with 2 modes and 2 maps, only 2 years after the proof of concept they showed at TGS 2018. The playtest and season 1 were plagued with network issues. It did not even have a tutorial until season 5. I think it's a pretty safe bet.

They were realeasing the singleplayer campaigns periodically. The sale of Soleil to Tencent grenaded the development of the singleplayer. The game is STILL incomplete to this day, we're missing 4 story modes.

Interview seems to confirm that the game's story is the anime's story, but they need to figure out a way to connect them moving forward. Part 2 will likely be large-scale DLC, although it sounds like it'll be a ways off if they're still not even sure about that. They also explained why there's no Ninjala 1 and Ninjala 2 crossover stuff

Feels like they're trying to do a lot of that this game. Many of the new systems are a response to player feedback, like no more touch-of-death combos, no more rock-paper-scissors, and obviously PvE. Gum grappling and gum mecha were actually suggestions I submitted ages ago as gum shoot and ninjutsu ideas, so I think they are directly implementing stuff that has been suggested or complained about. Weapon elements and perfect guards were also suggestions I remember a few people making over the years

I understand getting rid of parries, parries were kinda dumb. Like objectively the only real reason to get into them is to dash away and reset to neutral.
But getting rid of directional attacks? I feel like they were a pretty well realized part of the system. Dunno if whatever they have lined up can really replace them.

That's one of my biggest concerns too, those were part of what made each weapon feel unique alongside gum shoot combos and now they're both gone. They actually have more attacks not, but for Katana it's looking like it may as well be the same number; Attack is NA, Strong Attack and Drop Attack are both WA, Aerial Attack and Gum Rush or the just dodge could reasonably be called BA, and Dash Attack(?) is similar to Break. The problem is that there are no directional finishers or anything, and each attack has less impact than before because of how the combat seems to work. Rather than touch-of-death combos where the way you get that first hit really matters, it seems like it'll be a back and forth of just guards and just dodges and Gum Hook movement while mashing the attack button and managing gauges. It doesn't really matter if you use Attack, Aerial Attack, or Dash Attack to catch someone since I suspect you won't be killing off it anyway. Once you get a gumbind, Gum Rush or throwing the opponent around is the only option aside from activating elemental effects. Considering how strong the defensive options are this time around, I'm worried that all the attacks we have to work with are pretty underwhelming. That could just be katana though, we don't know much about how the other weapons work yet.

Also, parries did have a more niche use where you could gamble if there were multiple targets around and the odds were in your favor. Could steal a drone or defend yourself from third partying that way. But yeah considering how many people thought the game was just RPS I won't miss them. The new s-burst where you simply jump out of hitstun or blockstun seems fine

Seems like guard direction matters now. I think that the just dodge which replaces you with a log and makes you invisible will give you a means to work around an opponent's guard in PvP since guarding always makes you face the target when locked on and it'd be pretty tough to do that in a 1-on-1 otherwise

PvP was confirmed already and a lot of the changes they made were due to PvP complaints. There's always going to be less depth to PvE than PvP, so I'd rather think about the PvP aspect. Lack of difficulty is my main concern for PvE since a friend who never played Ninjala before beat Daimon by just mashing buttons and good players will have just guards and just dodges to make things even easier; not to mention the fact that having multiple people seems to make it possible to stunlock medium-sized enemies to death (although there will probably be flinch threshold scaling with multiple players compared to the NPC summons). I'm sure it'll still be fun even if it's easy, but giving players a wide variety of unique tools to work with can make up for lack of difficulty and it doesn't seem like we have that this time around since the weapons feel less unique and most of the new tools are generic stuff like grappling and items.

No, I trust it for PvE. We don't exactly know how that one is going to come out but it's at the very least going to be harder to screw up than PvP.
But they're also banking on this being the replacement of Ninjala 1 when PvP eventually drops, and they won't port the Ninjala 1 combat to it when they have the new system that they've been working on, plus the system that all the new players are going to be used to.
What concerns me here is taking the stuff that wroked for Ninjala 1 away and hoping that the PvE combat translates well into PvP.

They haven't decided what to do with Ninjala 1 yet, so if it doesn't work out they might go back and try to fix it up. Hoping they just get it right this time with 2 though, I like the new ninja models more. I'll probably leave feedback on the official site about making sure weapons feel unique enough and hoping that just guard/dodge won't be too strong for PvP so they can consider it early
