man I wanted to make a para for this prog, it's the only class I have left to try (besides sin), but it has like half the skills of an ele or necro to roll for
is it worth it parabros?
>>
>>2708470
I'm making a para because I plan to play it after this prog, I would play something that you think is fun/sounds interesting. If you think you will have more fun playing ele/necro I would recommend that, if this prog is successful I might do it again in the future.
>>

Play whatever you want without any consideration of the prog rules. It's not going to change things that much.

Is W/P the most effective way to build Mighty Throw due to SWS? Or is there a P/? build that's better?

Mesmer is still the best offensive caster, BiP solves all energy management issues, and Rit continues to dominate the backline. They're understandably not going to do heavy-handed nerfs, so that renaissance is never going to happen.
You're better off keeping a close eye on buffs for Necro, Ranger and Paragon as that's where all the weird, highly specific builds will emerge.

How did people hit high hero ranks back in the day? If I remember correctly, having even r3 or r4 meant that you were a very good player, and people wouldn't pick you up in the HA outpost if you didn't have at least r2.
I was too young to ever get into that back then, but just had a thought that you had to be playing HA 24/7 as you would get full, coordinated teams already at the first game. Unlike now when it's bots until HoH (if at all).

Do you guys think GW 3 going to be any good? Should i finally upgrade my ancient ass pc to able to play it on it's release?
>>
>>2724040
the hype for 2 was unreal. and i think 3 will have none at all. probably for the best. everything about it says mobile game to me, but i guess 1 is now also a mobile game.
>>
>>2724040
>Do you guys think GW 3 going to be any good?
Not really. I think the current trends of live service games basically doom them all to slop, not to mention the broader games industry trends. There's a good chance that GW3 is seen as the final relic of this current age too, just as GW2 was one of the first live service games to usher in the current age.
>>
>>2724040
just wait and see. I doubt it'll be great but who knows
>>
>>2724040
Considering GW2 has been consistently bad for 14 years now, and Anet haven’t made a good game in almost 20 years, I sincerely doubt it.
>>
>>2724040
Extremely doubtful, all the people who made anet a great studio left years ago. Further evidence of this is the fact the trailer art style looks like highguard level slop, and the fact that the MMO is planning for much smaller player group sizes (larger than GW1, vastly smaller than GW2)

This is significant, because one of the few things GW2 does well is it's large scale player content, the open world PvE world bosses and WvW are some of the only redeeming qualities of GW2 and much like they did to GW1 they're going "nope fuck that" on the only good parts of their game, but unlike what happened between GW1 and 2 I don't think they have the talent to pull it off...

And even if they did still have the talent, live service games are oversaturated in this market and there's simply no amount of content they could produce with their small studio that would be able to keep up with consumer demand. GW3 launching will cause GW2's playerbase to drop in half, maybe even more and only a fraction will return to GW2 after deciding they prefer GW2. GW2 which already frequently sees complaints about quality and quantity of content releases will continue to suffer as more talent keeps getting poured onto the black hole that is GW3 because as history has shown (in the many times anet has tried it during GW2's development) they are incapable of running 2 projects at same time.

Literally I shit you not, the only reason GW2 hasn't crashed is because it was built on a somewhat solid foundation + nostalgia + it has 14 years worth of content to get through so your average player doesn't have to care when the latest expansion is dogshit that can be completed in 20 minutes.

Anyway this will create a bungie death spiral in which the devs poor resources and money into new game which isn't even breaking even, meanwhile old game continues to lose profitability, people, and quality worsens until it's no longer feasible to maintain it and the entire studio gets sunk.
>>
I'm sure this topic was brought up in this general at least few times at that point, but oh boy, it's really hard to not see in Reforged anything but a scam. The game existed for a whole year at this point, and they didn't add anything to it but half-baked new hub in pre-raped Ascalon, few quests connected to it, and...it's basically all that matter.
Surely if they wanted to sell people a 20-year old game for triple the price they could at least make dlc-exclusive classes accessible for all campaigns(surely putting some new trainers there and there couldn't be that much of a impossible task) or something equally cool.
>>
>>2725288
>anything other than a scam

I didn't pay anything for reforged

If you owned nightfall back in 2008 but not factions/prophecies, you got those for free after reforged.

The entire bundle for the game is now cheaper than it was before reforged.

The entire bundle for the game was also 75% off for the first time in it's existence immediately after reforged announced.

I don't really understand what part is the scam, I think people are overusing the word scam to the point that it doesn't actually mean anything anymore.

I also don't really understand what you mean by 20 year old game for triple the price. You do understand that BEFORE reforged, the GW trilogy cost 30$ and after reforged it now costs 20$ right?

Here's a 2023 wayback of the store page for you.

what do you want
it's a 20 year old game and, for free, they added mobile, steamdeck, permadeath and ironman modes, 2 dungeons and 2 heroes, skill patches and ai fixes, and made a bunch of weapon skins and minis available. and based on that woodenpotatoes interview they're gonna make a new skill randomizer roguelite mode

>>2725850

>>
>>2724040
the mount riding segment from the gw3 trailer could be spliced into the highguard trailer and nobody would notice its a different game
the gw2 furries will be upset about losing their characters and the trailer for gw3 promised a beta test over a year after the trailer (fall 2027) so i think they will try to change the game to appeal to gw2 furries for a mess of a game stitched together in panic

Chest Armor - 45-65 AR: 3 Silver Bullion Coins

Arm Armor - 45-65 AR: 3 Insect Appendages

I doubt it. Everyone said legendaries in GW2 were huge grinds too and I got full legendary besides weapons in like 6-8 months. Wasted time grinding 10k gems with gold too because I didn't want to pay real money for stuff
>>
>>2734511
to be fair, legendaries are not grindy at all if you're willing to pay, it's maybe 1-10 hours to do the precusor chain unless you just buy the precursor for 50-200g, after that it's almost pure mat costs.

The only huge grinds for legendaries are the trinkets and armor, mostly because the trinkets require 100% full story achievement completion + scavenger hunt, and the armor requires you to farm raids once a week for several months. It's not even a tough grind just a pure timegate grind.

But both can still be done within 50-200 hours at worst.

GWAMM is roughly a 300-1000 hour investment depending on how optimized you do it and how many account titles you have. For a first time GWAMM I'd expect closer to 1000 hours if you're not doing it super optimal.
>>
>>2734533
GWAMM is a lot more manageable if you're just doing zaishen dailies and being smart about turning in stuff for double rep weeks.
>>
GW1 title grinds are on par with shit they expected you to do in like third-tier Korean MMOs in 2002, and I have no idea how even a single person in the world would ever think "Yes, that's how I want to spend my time."
>>
>>2734613
>t. bambi
>>
>>2734613
Only account-wide titles are really all that bad. Most titles are just completionist shit. "Do all missions and bonuses in NM an HM" "capture all elite skills" "vanquish all zones" it's not a huge repetitive grind, it's just a lot of content to get through.

Now something like lucky is some Korean MMO bullshit.
>>
>>2734634
Not really since you pretty much afk lucky/unlucky all the way through. I actually can't think of a Korean MMO grindfest title. If anything it would be the Sunspear farm to progress the main quests.
>>
>>2734645

>>
>>2734671
>Treasure hunter
>Wisdom, but that goes hand in hand with the above
That's just playing the game THOUGH. Zaishen is the same, you can do PvP and get zkeys for free or just buy stacks directly and spam the chest - nothing Korean about it - sure it takes a long time to max it out but again you get that through playing (multiple formats) of the game. Or if you are rich enough you can max the whole title out in a day.
Korean experience would be something like Fire Imp Slayer (r1 to r5) where you have to kill 500000 Fire Imps to max it out.
>>
>>2734698
do you realize how many weeks of capping keys it takes?
>>
>>2734710
Think this dude was saying buy keys from Indian botters like a nigger.
>>
>>2734716
That's still a ludicrous amount of money
>>
>>2734710
Where do you draw the line in something being Korean or not? You can max it in a week? A month? Half a year? Zaishen rank can be progressed via many different ways. I unfortunately have intimate experience with early Y2K Korean MMOs and nothing about GW1 is in that vein.
>>
>>2734731
Maxed in a week or a month is absolutely not korean tier. That's fairly normal for most MMOs. Half a year of daily commitment to playing 1-2 hours is where i'd begin to say it's korean. And by the way, zaishen keys max at 25 a day, and you need 20000 for the title. It's over two years of a LOT of pvp. There's a reason key stacks are as expensive as they are.
>>
>>2734613
They're really not that bad, almost every character title in the game can be obtained in under 25-50 hours at worst with vanquishes being the most time consuming.

>>2734762
I don't even know why people are bringing up zkeys to begin with it's a PvP title. If we're comparing PvP titles GW2 has multiple that are even grindier. See ultimate dominator (250,000 killed players) or god of WvW. The world first ultimate dominator had to play 10 hours every day for 9 months to hit it, during one of the best periods of this game to get it (with how much more inactive WvW is today that title is now 3X harder to get). And WvW rank 10,000 is so high that even though I have a solid 4000 hours solely spent in WvW I'm not even halfway. The other WvW titles were so horrifically grindy that people did the math and even if you did nothing but grind those achievements some would take nearly 7 full years of grinding every day to obtain (as a result anet eventually lowered the other achievements to be somewhat obtainable by humans). Even the PvP achievements like Champion Brawler (10k rated match wins) or Dragon rank take nearly 2+ years of daily PvP play to obtain.
>>
>prog group wants to potluck mats for armor
>nobody wants to donate zkeys for a title
>>
>>2734978
Zaishen r3 is a pretty common thing to pursue for hom maxing
>>
>>2734511

this is people actively searching for parties https://lfg.gwtoolbox.com/ and it's pretty scarce. if you're hoping to pug your way through a campaign, you're not gonna get that. if you want to get 7 people to do the zaishen mission in hm, you can get that in 5 mins

This was true until commercial flights made traveling trivial. You are not an adventurer or a pathfinder from 1830 going to the Amazonian forests or Siberia. You got a discounted flight to some tourist trap and you call yourself a traveler exploring a strange, new land.
Everything has been thoroughly raped and defiled, there is no new or strange there is a cheap Mariott hotel, wifi passwords, a bus tour to see some tourist spots and a dinner at a place that serves pizza, burgers and sushi. Make sure to upload a photo to instagram after.

Rooting for you anon, but it'll be tough going. The game has lots of hilariously retarded ways to kill you, as I'm sure you know. I lost a 1m survivor to some iboga boss in Kourna 1-shotting me from offscreen with a lightning bolt. I like your idea of jumping into HM the moment you hit level 20, though. I usually treat DC characters as 'progression' characters and go through stuff in order, but your method makes it seem like the game instead becomes a sort of expanding sandbox, which is also fun.

What kind of team comp are you running? I put some thought into what I'd do if I ever got far on a DC character in order to boost team stability, at the cost of clear time, but I never got far enough to test my ideas, so I don't know how well they work in practice. Sometimes the best defense is to just kill stuff fast.

>>2758086
I thought about sticking to the natural order, but you progress much faster and safer if you take the sandbox approach. At first it was getting access to the heroes but the thing leading me around now is the Zaishen quests. If there is a vanquish close to where I'm at in NF, I'll push that campaign to reach the vanquish region. Then it's just a matter of some XP scrolls, doing the quests in the area, and clearing it of foes. That's 10-15k exp from the Zaishen quest + sidequests + killing exp = massive gains. But you have to face some serious danger sometimes.

Build is picrel. I know I've made some peculiar choices, but it's tailored for my goals. Which is survival, obviously. But also I want to be able to "hotswap" heroes in and out, since I often require a specific one to progress. Left is what I usually use, right are the ones I swap in when needed. Not pictured is the bog standard MM which you can swap in for the Rt, since minions make those spirits practically useless. I found that depending on spirits instead of a meatshield is more dependable and a lot faster, so I rarely use an MM. The core strategy is to shower them with debilitating conditions to lower enemy dmg output and make use of the same constant shower to deal a lot of damage. The mesmer is probably the most important cog in the machine. When I can bundle them up, it melts faces off. The output slows down against spread-out enemies, but they have very little chance of killing us.

>bow ranger
I know but it's just great to play. And the distances make it safer, even on shortbow. I have high survival to feed that bar and when I was still messing around, I found that healing spring is pretty underestimated (in players' hands). If the party gets hit with massive degen or other trickling HP attacks, it can boost them up to full in no time. And enemies don't target you for using healing spring, unlike the other traps which they aim to interrupt as fast as possible. They ignore healing spring.
>>
>>2758312
Bow ranger is pretty solid for DC imo, pretty safe playstyle without being as boring as something like running communing prot as a player.

I've considered running condition-based teams with pestilence since the nature ritual buffs, but I'm always worried about inflicting my own conditions back on my team. I feel like it would make any enemy bars that inflict conditions in an AoE really scary. I guess that's where Feast + Plague Sending come in, though.
>>
>>2758312
If I can just nit pick a few things about your set up:

Minions aren't that bad with ST unless you are running low level minions stuff like bone fiends will generally not have a noticable impact on ST performance, ST hero's are pretty competent at keeping their spirits up the majority of wipes are usually a result of - The player doesn't precast shelter before battle, The ST gets heavily pressured, or all the spirits get AoE'd and all die at once (more likely when you don't have an SoS or minion midline stack eating up AoEs).

That said I can respect the fear, however doubling up on prot with monk I don't think is a great idea. Hero's don't understand shelter is up, so the monk will waste energy and time casting Protective Spirit and Spirit Bond which will functionally do nothing most of the time. Additionally playing prot with an HB is not great, HB scales better the higher your divine favor is. I would drop Protective Spirit and Spirit bond for either Shield of Absorption + Cure Hex (you only have a single hex removal on this team...) Or just drop prot entirely and go Cure Hex + Vigorous Spirit. You need more hex removal on this team.

On your bar I would personally drop Ignite Arrows imo, ignite is better in physical support teams where you can boost the AoE damage of ignite (such as with orders, TaO, EBSoH etc...) you don't have any of that, with your current set up Apply poison pesti + fevered apply poison is prob just flat better and you tab target spread condis. Alternatively you could go for a crazy opener with Choking Gas and AoE rupt enemies for first 12~ seconds of combat. Rapid Fire probably make bow feel better to play, or you could go Expert Focus + Concussion Shot for a nice source of dazed.

(If you want to be a meta fag, dropping rebirth for Save Yourselves would give your team crazy damage mitigation, and functions well with your current set up)
>>
>>2758745
>>2758312
Continuing on* I would also personally drop the sin hero for a derv hero. Sin hero's aren't great at doing their dagger chain, and your current set up isn't great for a sin hero, heros follow the player, and when the player is playing ranged this can mean melee heros walk outside the range of the hero monk and might get delayed on heals, additionally ass heros have low armor (potentially lower than some casters depending on insignias) so they get spiked pretty hard. I would personally go for a derv hero instead, higher armor and better access to self sustain, and much better access to conditions to fuel fevered and pesti.

Something like an Avatar build would be pretty strong here, Grenth for AoE disease, balthazar for more AoE burning (could also just slap on Mystic Corruption or Balthazar's Rage too) and run some earth prayers for free condis. You've got the right idea, I might try to fit Dust Cloak somewhere into your setup though AoE blind is nice. Alternative to avatar forms Wounding Strike would be better for BIG deep wound but VoS is also just flat good AoE.

Also as a final note I would stick "Find Their Weakness" onto your para if you could. Deep wound is a really strong condition to have access to.

>nature ritual buffs
That was a factor for pestilence. Doesn't really need much of an investment, attribute-wise. Spawning power handles the rest. The new melee hero changes are pretty good and make it worthwhile investing in, I think. Foul Feast is an absolute beast for condition management. I also tried other solutions like Recovery but nothing really tops it.

>bow ranger
It doesn't hit the hardest, but it is very consistent if you handle it right. It can really shine in the right comp.

>>2758745
>>2758799
Thanks for that, especially the monk part. I hadn't considered prot with shelter in tandem would negate each other. I'll get more hex removal instead of that. I used to run a hex remover on mesmer but it's surprisingly manageable with just the one overall. Still, more won't hurt.

>ignite arrows
I tried various preps with different results. Poison spreading works well, but it's just a bit boring to execute. Ignite prep with incendiary arrows makes quite a hit when aimed at a small pack. Makes it so I'm constantly swapping targets to hit multiple targets and suppress key targets with my interrupts. It's not the most powerful, but it feels impactful, thus making it fun to play. I relegated poison to the blood necro, which works well.
I messed around with a daze build too but found mesmer to be spreading it more efficiently.

>Rebirth
It's there in case there is a partial wipe and I need to reset. It's a rare occurrence, but the chance is always there. Save yourselves is a solid idea nonetheless.

>Derv hero
You make good arguments, but Zenmai gets more pull from melee enemies than Melonni which is why I favor her. The dagger routine is straightforward enough, she rarely seems to mess up. Critical defenses seem to work hard and don't really drain my healers while she does good dmg. That said, when I have to enter a particularly hard area I do bring out the war/derv combo.
Mesmer already provides deep wound that gets spread very consistently.
>>
>>2758745
>>2759191
Oh, and on Minions, not having them minimizes having unwanted pulls, and I often had the MM hero lag behind due to cast times of the minion skills. It's just an annoyance to deal with, always having to wait for the hero to catch up and get in position for the pull. The meatshield sure has upsides, and I do utilize it in missions like Vizunah Square where the enemy count is through the roof. But I prefer to avoid it for most things.
>>
>>2759191
I am a professional ignite arrow lover so I can't blame you for enjoying using it lol, it's a fun set up and works well with incendiary. And yeah I knew why you had rebirth on there, it's the classic clutch res

If you want to feed ignite some more, the luxon/kurz triple shot is a fun skill to use with it.

If you're going to use an SB I'd honestly consider dropping Healing Spring, SB requires you to be slightly further from your heroes and it's super easy to rupt making it sub optimal for when you are taking pressure and would need to use it. If you're really attached to having a self heal I would run Troll ungent it's an extremely powerful alternative option, similar cast time but it's an unstrippable regen you can run off cooldown.

Also I would personally swap Whirling Defense for Lightning Reflexes lets you have better block uptime and it feels better to play.

It might honestly be worth considering putting a UA monk in instead of HB for your setup, you could run Deny Hexes on your UA which would be really nice for your hex problems, and UA plays better with sin heroes. Would let you drop rebirth as well, if you're in a situation where UA ends up dying you probably aren't escaping that fight.

Also this is the first time I ever looked at your ranger hero but drop Power Shot, it's one of the worst skills in the game it's not doing +25...45...50 its ONLY doing 25-50 damage no bonus. I'd swap it for savage shot or a condi. Alternatively you can indulge and be greedy and have it run Winnowing so your arrows do +4 extra damage.
>>
>>2759268
I'm usually on recurve, swap to SB when it's safe to do so. Good point about lighting reflexes. I'll give the UA monk a shot too. I started out with Troll Unguent, but I found Healing Spring has its uses. When you're pulling 3 fire djinns, it can really nullify the searing flames spam. Sometimes I use it to bruteforce something I know will hurt. Serpent's quickness helps to keep it up with minimal downtime. It rarely gets rupted, which surprised me, but enemies really don't give a shit, and splash spell damage doesn't rupt it. I haven't unlocked the kurzick skills vendor yet but I'm close.
>power shot
Was meant to be savage shot, just an error. I only use that build for Margrid-related missions.

I just recently started GWR, and wanted to see if any Anon's with decent knowledge of that game can let me know if my current build plan is not going to work.

PvE only Warrior/Monk (hear me out):
Attributes -
>12 Strength
>6 Axe Mastery
>2 Hammer Mastery
>12 Smiting Prayers

Skills -
>Keen Chop [3a]
Auto crits (Ignores 20% armor), restores 1 energy with that crit for "Zealous [Axe] of the Assassin" for my weapon modifiers, and has very low adrenaline cost, so more attacks helps restore energy further with Zealous on my axe.
>Disrupting Chop [6a]
Purely a control skill to inturrupt and disable enemy skills.
>Power Attack [5e/3scd]
Bread and butter damage skill benefitting from the Strength line for being a Warrior Primary.
>Cyclone Axe [5e/4scd]
AoE skill can is energy efficient with Zealous on my Axe.
>Auspicious Blow [5a]
My only dedicated Hammer skill used almost exclusively to restore Energy. Added benefit of being Unblockable is the target has Weakness.
>Castigation Signet [20scd]
Ranged Smite dealing 50 Holy Damage and restored 8 energy when used on an attacking attacker.
>Judge's Insight [10e/10scs]
Converts damage to Holy, and grants 20% bonus Armor Penetration. Lasts 18sec.
>Seven Weapons Stance [5e/20scd]
All weapon attributes are increased by +12 and increase attack speed by 33%. Lasts 17sec.

Weapon Set 1:
>Zealous Axe of the Assassin
>Shield
Weapon Set 2:
>Hammer

The goal is keep Judge's Insight and Seven Weapon Stance going as long as possible. Judge's Insight is ideal alongside having a high Strength score for a 32% passive Armor Penetration (AP), and Keen Chop adds a virtual extra 20% AP, allowing me to deal max weapon damage plus reducing the enemy's Armor benefit by 52%.

Seven Weapons Stance will virtually increase all my weapon attributes by 12, netting me a total of 18 Axe Mastery and 14 Hammer Mastery, with increase 33% attack speed just being great fir Adrenaline/Energy regen.
>>
>>2765787
If you use a helmet with +1 Str and a superior Strength rune, you get 16 strength for 100% uptime on SWS and +16 to all weapon skills. Then you can drop axe mastery to 4, then bump hammer mastery to 4 to get 20 in both while SWS is active.

Looks pretty solid otherwise IMO. It's hard to 'eyeball' if you have enough energy management for this, but you'll probably be OK. If you find after playtesting you have more energy than you need, I'd consider swapping out the Castigation Signet for something that boost adrenaline gain. For Great Justice will give you more Auspicious Blows and more Keen Chops.

If you have heroes unlocked, you can also make the Judge's Insight buff 'external', I.E. bring a Smiting hero with something like Ray of Judgment, Strength of Honor, Judge's Insight, Smite Hex/Condition, and let them buff you up instead of casting it on yourself. You'd still need to self-buff if playing with other players where you can't slot in a support hero, but if you are playing with all or mostly heroes and have control over your team composition, stuff like this is worth considering when choosing which heroes to bring.
>>
>>2765787
SWS wammo is pretty fun, you might wanna consider self-casting Balthazar's Spirit as it will supercharge you with energy and adrenaline since you're frontlining and probably tanking a ton of hits, won't need to do jank hammer swaps, and might even be able to drop the zealous mod and equip some real smiting spells like the freshly buffed Symbol of wrath

also get that strength up to 16 mate
>>
>>2765850

SS necro is pretty fun. i like necro in general since you can combine any caster second class with it because of soul reaping.
i'm currently playing pic related, which is more than good enough for normal mode, it's fun actually
>>
>>2766413
minions arent everything. even within death magic you can do a pure damage build.
>>
>>2766413
Ravenous Gaze Blood Magic builds are the new ESurge these days
>>
>>2766638
Is it? Ravenous Gaze does solid damage now, but it's hard to build a midline damage bar that compares to dom mesmer with the rest of the skills available in blood magic.
>>
>>2766638
Have an example? And how is it better than icy veins?
>>
>>2766750
nta, but Ravenous Gaze on a DA bomber build is fun. Something like:

Ravenous Gaze
Unholy Feast
Dark Pact/Touch of Agony
Masochism
Mobility/Defense stuff of your choice

Then you either have a hero cast Dark Aura on you, or you invest in Death Magic and run it yourself. I guess you could also do something like Blood/Curses running Defile Enchantments for a midline damage dealer with Awaken the Blood, or just run typical death magic damage stuff but take Ravenous Gaze over Discord/Icy Veins, but these seem a bit awkward to me.
>>
>>2766561
whats a good death magic build that doesnt use minions? im too poor to gear up away from death magic
>>
>>2767224
Discord/Necrosis/Putrid Bile/Putrid Explosion, whatever else. Needs hexes and conditions in your team for Discord, or you can fill the empty spaces on your bar with those. Putrid Bile on its own is not enough hex support for Discord because of the 12s CD + being single-target.
>>
>>2767281
Oh, and contagion bomber for the memes. Contagion, a shadow step, a bunch of stuff that inflicts conditions on yourself, maso+dark aura. Asuran Scan for DP removal.
>>
>>2767281
Toxic Chill isn't so bad either, especially in builds that already have hexes.
>>
>>2765787
Just my two cents as a not warrior main player, and there's nothing "wrong" with it, but ...
Castigation Signet isn't exactly good energy management, and requires you to stop doing anything at all for a whole second to cast it, and SWS is just providing IAS if you drop the hammer.
I'd drop the hammer, drop Auspicious, drop Castigation, drop SWS, add an IAS (increase attack speed), add Balthazar's Spirit, and add an actually fun and strong elite (like maybe Cleave, which they just mega buffed).
Attributes would be 12-10-8 axe-strength-smite maybe plus runes as you see ft.
>>
>>2767375
Oh, and I guess you do get a number of attribute points in Axe with SWS, but still, powerful elites skills are fun when they feel like powerful elite skills rather than just a passive stat boost that becomes a chore to maintain.
>>
>>2765787
I'm inclined to agree with the line of thinking in >>2767375 also I think just running more damaging adrenaline skills, which axe has plenty of, and using a zealous necro axe is substantially better bar compression. Would allow you to run things like cleave and dismember, spam cyclone and power attack and probably could use protectors for pseudo ias if you can't find a real ias you like
>>
>>2766413
no necro fucking sucks and im pissed i made my "main" character necro so now i just spirit spam as n/rt because fuck sustaining minions it is the least fun gameplay in this entire game
>>
what's a main character
>>
>>2767839
Castigation Signet is there moreso to keep my energy pool filled enough witjout sacrificing DPS so I'm able to land a Power Attack more frequently after buffing with SWS/JI, and they all share a similar cooldown as well. Also doubles as a ranged attack option against fleeing targets if need be.

The goal target rotarion is something akin to:
SWS > JI > Castigation > Power Attack > Power Attack > Keen Chop > Power Attack > Auspicious Blow > Power Attack > Keen Chop
Rinse/Repeat. Disrupting Chop as needed.

I also retooled the attributes to:
>15 Strength (+1 +3)
>4 Axe
>5 Hammer
>12 Smiting
Overall better than previous. Would like to get Strength to 16, but dropping Smiting down makes the JI juggle slightly harder to maintain.

Without having the build made, it's hard to tell if I have too much energy regen, but this is Warrior Primary, so too much might still not be a bad thing.
>>
>>2766413
Necro has always been over hyped because Soul Reaper is the most overrated attribute in the game. That said I play my Necro a lot because I have a bond with her since she is my oldest character and my most played one from back when the game was new.
I've been playing a N/R serpent's quickness blood magic build recently now that Ravenous Gaze has been buffed and its pretty decent and you can get a lot of AoE damage along with self heals but it still feels like most blood magic skills need a little extra oomph, especially as I am having to round the build out with two Norn shouts.
Before that I was mostly running a Dark Aura Blood magic build which is fun but you will be spending a lot of time on your ass (part of the fun).
Occasionally I bring out the AP build which is soulless meta but actually works and has a Minion variation which is the only Minion build I can stomach to play for long periods of time.
>>
You should go into necromancer with the right expectations. It's not a frontline damage dealer specialty profession. Pick elementalist if you want to nuke shit with spells.
You can think of necromancer as a primarily midline support profession focused on buffs/debuffs (Mesmer is punishment/denial, which is different). They excel at buffing other players and generating pressure on enemies. Even the minions are a support mechanic, as they're there more to soak up damage and die than to do damage.
>>
Hmmm no, I will stick with Dark Aura and keep blowing myself up.
>>
>>2768602
You're still kinda wasting your suffix on the assassin mod. Necro or ranger would be more energy, and enchanting would buy you 4 seconds on JI. Also with +33% ias, you're getting two autos between each PA. More adrenaline skills is going to be better damage because it will replace those generic autos with real skills. I would still drop hammer, and run 12+1+3 str, 12 smite, 3+1 axe and use one more adrenaline skill. You have nothing to handle any block or blind and get hard shutdown by those.
>>
>>2768751
Does adding +5% passive crit (on top of already hitting 20% passive through Weapon Mastery via SWS) not bring incentive? Keen Chop is the only skill that doesn't benefit from the +5% crit, but is always a surefire energy pip.

Ranger is probably the one I'd go with otherwise, since it's more predictable in a rotation.
>>
>>2768602
>>2768772
I'm also tinkering with the idea of having my Hammer be "...of the Warrior" to jump my Strength Score to 20 while wielding hammer. Two reasons for this:
>Allows me to cast SWS at Strength 20, and my understanding is that once a stance benefit is applied, it's locked in even if attributes shift. So I'll get +20 to both Axe and Hammer Mastery (more skill points freed up, but I'll keep +2 to both weapons to offset possible Weakened conditions screwing me over)
>Makes Power Attack with my Hammer deal more damage if I have energy to burn
>The whole idea behind Auspicious Blow is to get the energy refill to recast buffs, so I'm likely to have the Hammer out when using SWS anyways
Axe = Energy regen + Crits
Hammer = Harder hits + max Buff benefit/duration
>>
>>2768850
The "of the Profession" mods do not add attribute levels, they simply set it to what the mods says.
>>
>>2768860
Damn, nvm then.
>>
>>2768772
It's pretty minor damage, especially since +5 soul reaping is the equivalent of +3 energy regen pips, and you're bringing multiple energy management skills. Shouldn't need more than balth aura and the zealous+SR/expertise mod for energy management. Crit math is kinda weird. The crit strikes isn't +5% crit rate, it's 1.05x your existing crit rate. At 20 axe mastery against level 28 enemies, you have a 23% ish crit rate. That assassin mod is only bringing that up to like 24% crit rate. Hitting 20 axe mastery is a way bigger deal than that at around a 4.5% increase. Drop the assassin mod, drop the hammer, drop castigation, run 16 str, 4 axe, 12 smite and bring balth aura
>>
>>2768883
Also, you really should just get a 40/20/20 smiting staff for casting judge's insight, and then swap to your axe+shield set. Can camp the staff when not in combat so you're not at 0 energy pips after zealous+b.aura. Cast JI, swap, run in, body block and cyclone for huge energy.

based

>>2768883
>it's 1.05x your existing crit rate
I think it's 0.95x your existing non-crit rate. You don't take .23 * 1.05 to get ~.24, you take 1 - .23 = .77, and .77 * 0.95 = ~.73, so the new crit chance is 1 - .73 = .27, or ~27%. It's effectively a separate roll. You roll for base crit (The 23%), then you roll for critical strikes (5%), then you roll for skill bonuses (Fear Me, GftE, etc.) and if any of these rolls succeed, you get a crit. It's just like stacking multiple HSR/HCT where the 40/40 is really more like a 36/36.
>>
>>2768942
Hmm that might be right. I was under the impression it was (1-(1-crit strikes)*(1-additive chance from skills))* base rate but thinking about it, I would actually expect it to work like you've said. Still a +4% final crit rate is not really that big of an increase compared to dropping an energy management skill and gaining a damaging skill or something to counter blocks like wild blow (another auto crit that wouldn't benefit from assassin mods)
>>
>>2768602
again, just use Balthazar's Spirit for infinite energy and free skill slots
>>
>>2768980
Wouldn't that put me at 0 passive energy regen if paired with Zealous since I'm a Warrior primary? Relies on me getting hit to regen, and enemies in this game seem to favor chasing casters/healers from what I've been seeing thus far (if this changes late game, then sure. This is just my early game observations).
>>
>>2768987
That's why you body block and other weapon sets. Swap to a non zealous to have regen out of combat, and use zealous (and "of the necro") in combat.
>>
>>2768987
remember, 1 pip means if you get hit by ANYTHING once every 3 seconds you're breaking even, anything more frequent and you're gaining more than you've spent
getting hit once every three seconds is completely trivial in any fight in this game
>>
>>2769004
>>2769012
Gotcha. Still trying to wrap my head around the mechanics, so that makes sense.
>>
>>2769012
Not to mention the adrenaline for more keen choppa. Guaranteed crits+armor pen+20 ranks is actually decently strong given how strike levels calculate. SWS+JI is pretty good and brings keen to be slightly stronger than power attack on 60 ar targets, and moderately okay on 120 ish targets
>>
>>2769012
>>2769032
Okay, new Attribute spread:
>16 Str
>4 Axe
>4 Ham
>11 Smite
Swapped Signet with Balthazar's Spirit. All lowering Smite down to 11 does is reduce JI by 1sec, which I think is probably worth it by keeping Str to 16 and upping Axe/Ham to (virtual) 20, alongside keeping SWS up for 21sec on it's 20sec cooldown.

I'm playing all of the content besides prophecies for the first time, and damn, Eye of the North sucks. I was excited since it was the only true expansion but the main quest sucks compared to every other campaign. It's just fighting through bland dungeons over and over and really short story quests. That's disappointing... They already got lazy with most of the bonuses in the campaign missions making them time-based but they didn't even bother in EotN. Nightfall was amazing, though, which makes EotN feel even worse in comparison.

I'm trying out the Blood Magic Ravenous gaze one, currently using Dark Aura but the stats are a bit too spread. I want to use it on a hero and have them auto cast on me without the micro, but I read that they auto cast it on anyone with blood sac skills, which means they will use it on my BiP hero right? Is there any way around this other than not using a BiP hero?
>>
>>2768627
Soul Reaping is exactly as hyped as it should, it's insane amounts of energy and completely passively given to you. Even just 5 SR (an of the Necromancer weapon mod) is the equivalent of +3 energy regen. At 10 SR it's like having a personal BiP on you permanently. Assuming things are dying of course, but it's stupidly easy to achieve. Even your own minions count for it.
>>
>>2771824
Recently, they changed how the AI uses Dark Aura slightly and it it now prioritizes certain skills which tend to be the ones you will have on a Blood Magic build that wants Dark Aura, they will even keep it up on you out of combat with certain skills so you can go into fights with it. They will normally only cast it on your BiP hero if they are surrounded in combat and should still prioritize you but apart from that no.

>>
>>2771857
They did do this, but they also now will NEVER cast dark aura on characters with health sac skills that aren't the designated ones, even in combat. So you need one of the following skills on your bar, then heroes will maintain DA both in and out of combat: Contagion, Soul Taker, Signet of Agony, Touch of Agony, Wallow's Bite

I don't really love Signet of Agony or the touch skills, since they are not spells and thus do not trigger Masochism, but if you're taking Dark Aura off your own bar, you're freeing up a spell slot anyways.
>>
>>2772295
I don't think it shines anywhere, but I used it when going for gwamm a bunch since you have a flexible secondary for skill capturing, and it's a fun alternative to minions. Ok Ravenous Gaze with Dark Aura is too awkward to play, needing to be in melee range while having spells feels bad to play. Can someone recommend a non minion Necro build to speed through Prophecies with so I can grab Soul Taker asap?
>>
>>2772917
You can run a curses build using Defile/Desecrate Enchantments, Awaken the Blood, Necrosis, and one of Spiteful Spirit, Feast of Corruption, or Lingering Curse.
A death magic build with Deathly Swarm, Bitter Chill, Putrid Bile, Putrid Explosion, Masochism, Necrosis, Intensity, and whatever soul reaping/death magic elite is easy to obtain.
Abuse soul reaping to be a runeless version of nearly any ele or smiting build.
Every build is going to feel awkward to some extent as necro isn't meant to be a reliable source of direct damage, but you won't have to deal with being in melee range
>>
>>2772905
That's fair enough

Wa/Mo Anon here, I didn't realize SWS was a skill you can only if you hold some anniversary item. Does that mean I have to wait for an event in order to get the oppertunity to aquire it, or is there a workaround?

In either case, I came up with an alternative build if SWS is going to be out of reach for a while.
>12 Strength
>16 Axe Mastery
>3 Smiting Prayers

Similar concept, except using Warrior's Endurance for energy regen. Weapon mods not really accounted for here, and I wouldn't mind suggestions (previous recommendations "of the Ranger/Necro" being most likely I'd assume). There is also a mod that increases damage when in a stance that seemed like it could be decent as well. Keen Chop when available, and cycle between Power Attack/Swift Chop for more frequent hits (debating swapping Swift Chop with Furious Axe), Cyclone Axe for AoE.
- Strength of Honor just gives all my attacks 9 more damage across the board, which seems decent enough on it's own with as many fast attacks I'm trying to shove out.
- Flail/Rush are what I settled on for IAS(33%), with Rush being the cancel Stance that also is nice for getting around after combat. Both sharing rhe same Adrenaline cost is pretty cool, too.

Essentially, I'll attempt to run this setup until I get access to SWS, however that works.

Oh also on the topic of profession mods, of the ranger is substantially better than necro for warriors endurance bars. Zealous weapon of the ranger means every 5e attack is net zero, with cyclone and adrenaline skills being positive enough that you easily afford other skills. If you're willing to look at pve skills, it very easily fuels heavy ascan use, in which case drop wild blow for whirlwind which also is big damage.

What exactly does Protector's Strike do that Power Attack doesn't? The way it reads seems like the same exact skill, but with conditions that need to be met to achieve it.

Also, what is the benefit of Deep Wound through Dismember if you don't plan on running any payoff skills for it? Is the 20% enough, and does the enemy get that lost chunk back when they lose Deep Wound as HP, or an empty bar?
>>
>>2773664
You run both power attack and protectors strike. Protectors strike has an activation time, meaning it interrupts the endlag of an attack and does its whole attack+effect within the activation time (which is also affected by ias). This speeds up your effective attack speed, and since it's the same CD as PA, you just pair it. Very nice especially if you have on hit effects and can deal with the energy, which WE expressly does.

Deep wound is big because very few attacks are gonna reliably do 20% to an enemy. They do get the hp back, but only if it wears off before they die. Axe twist is a good payoff for it as well but you really don't need it to make dismember worth running.
>>
>>2773664
Power Attack doesn't have an activation time. It will simply happen during your normal attack routine (1.33s).
Protector's Strike has a 1/2s activation time, The entire attack will complete in that time, which is much shorter than normal attack rate.

>>
>>2785515
Likely a factor but that makes rangers extremely malleable and versatile in PvE just the same. Ranger doesn't need a lot of raw damage by default to be effective, compared to the other physical classes. It can be if you want it to, but it starts to shine when you step away from that and focus more on the control side of things.

generally, stack as many attack buffs as possible (Weapon spells, conjures, etc) and use a shortbow

Welcome to GW1, as always you're welcome to join the guild we're pretty early into a nightfall prog right now and sometimes we do other stuff.

We did a prog a little less than a year ago where I played W/Mo (our 50/50 prog) this is the builds we created by the end mine is at the top. I tried to make Judge's Insight work for the longest time because I wanted to stack armor pen bonuses, but it just didn't work out for me no matter how hard I tried, the 2 second cast time is brutal, and in some areas there are too many enemies with enchant strips that it made it annoying to use.

I went with SoH for the unconditional bonus damage, and I used balth spirit to cover it that way I could easily maintain it out of combat, balth spirit can pay for itself pretty nicely if you can get a bunch of enemies smacking you.

I might still have my Totem Axe if you want it, it'll be perfect for a Judge's Insight build since it has +20% enchant duration on it.

>>2766499
That's a really cool setup. I don't know how I feel about the ele, I think I'd replace lightning orb + enervating charge with chain lightning + arc lightning for better AoE., Or maybe even swap from air to fully earth and run unsteady ground to KD enemies so they can't run from RoJ and the warriors. Churning Earth absolutely dumpsters HM enemies. A water ele might work pretty well here too, or maybe even a Gust air ele.

For your monks revealed hex is an inspired choice I don't know if I like. You should replace that and Healing Touch for Deny Hexes + Divine Healing for AoE heal and better hex removal. Healing touch is very dangerous to use in parties with melee, because the monk will run after your warriors trying to molest them. If you're going run an Healers Boon monk I would also swap Healing Whisper for Orison of Healing or Patient Spirit, healing whisper suffers same issue with it being half range and you have melees.

UW is fun and profitable, I'm also not impressed by the new items, but it provides an ample reason to hang out with bros, run some retarded builds and make some money maybe someone here will be more interested in the items but most are somewhat meta PvE/PvP relevant so it's not like they are bad greens.

Also as a reminder we're doing our UW run at 3 PM EST today. Theme will be mighty throw builds

>>
>>2789166
>whole UW for a shitty ass reskin is a fun goal now
What a cope get real boyo
>>2789225
I agree with the latter but UW is not really that profitable ever since they added eblades to the new dungeon drop table
>>
>>2789372
I mean, ectos are selling for 18-20k for the last several months and on average you get like 3-4 ectos per run if not more, not to mention if you have mobstoppers you can easily get an extra 20k+ ontop of that ignoring all other loot drops. None of which requires you to sit in spamadan to sell, nor does it require you to hit the 0.1% drop chance to get an eblade

...but even if that was true mini dhuum sells for more than an eblade, DSR sells for a considerable amount as well. Both have comparable drop rates.

I'm not really sure what the point of nitpicking eblade was. I guess if you did 1000 runs of the new dungeon and 1000 runs of UW maybe you'd net more profit? But I bet you 100 ectos I can do 1 UW run, and net more profit than 10 new dungeon runs (and have more fun doing it too).
>>
>>2788028
Tahnakai temple is by far the most difficult

Monk is a very boring class, also you will strugle at the start with your low level armor

Ranger or mesmer. It depends on if you want caster or more of a fighter. Both are the best classes in the game in my book.

Warriors use a lot more sets of armor/weapons for builds which can be very annoying to manage in a melandru.

Tahnakai Temple wasn't too bad since I struggled with that one on normal mode and I learned how to make it easier. If you just flag a single "Avoid Combat" hero in and out to pull the enemies you can split them up easily without risking the story NPCs dying
