>>2719062Things seen bad right now, but I doubt the game will shut down anytime soon
#esofam
>>2719042>brothel employee doesnt have any cleavage showingno wonder this game is dying
>>2719188look where the dog is looking. think about what the tail represents. this is why the game will never die
>>2719072Depends on the new roadmap I think. It was already too little and too slow, bad enough delays could cause numbers to drop like a rock and we can't assume years of maintenance mode from Xbox in their current state.
>>2719042why does the black guy have the most fuckass bowlcut i've ever seen in my life?
>>2719072It's been dying for years at this point. The core is quite good but the monetization is too extreme. they should try create an m+ mode like wow, people love that in that game. to an extent they shot themselves in the foot by not creating a true open world game from the start because it would have aged much better I think.
how do i raise the level of an equipment if i like its stats/set? i only see how to upgrade rarity
>>2719926You probably already have it in your stickerbook, so just transmute a new one for your desired level
>>2719958what
i just tried to do Alik'r dolmen farming and was getting like no xp. did 5 of them and didnt level up once whats with the hype?
>>2720051If you're in a group you'll get a lot more xp from kills, but even then it was never the fastest method, only the easiest. BRP or Skyreach are much more efficient, but less popular than the loop since they take more effort to set up and most of the playerbase doesn't want to socialize or pay for a carry.
>>2719309This roadmap for season one was published two days after the layoffs.
>>2721290Not that one, the long term one with multiple seasons and refresh schedules. S1 is already in the polishing stages and probably won't be affected much, S2 onwards is where things could really go to shit and piss off loads of players.
ESO might never get crossplay between consoles and PC now
>>2722403That's kinda crazy that they never tried it. Might have gotten a huge amount of people
>>2722486They were (are?) working on it at the usual glacial pace, it wasn't going to be ready by next year even before the layoffs.
BBC has published an article on xbox layoffs and things are not looking good for ESO judging by what one of the remaining ZOS devs said. Maintenance mode in near future is pretty much inevitable.
>>2723548I'm not optimistic and the layoffs seem more about union busting and salary trimming than performance, but I also don't think we should take the bitchposting from zos devs at face value. Read between the lines of Finnigan's bluesky post and its basically a confirmation they'd become a cliquey daycare that spent too much time fucking around and couldn't hold bad devs to account or take community criticism. This shit is why it took *nine months* for a studio with HUNDREDS of people to give mounts swimming animations. We saw a sharp improvement when MS killed Blackbird and caused/forced a change in the stagnant leadership roles, but the rot went beyond those few people at the top. This could be the spanking the manchildren needed to focus on their actual job instead of... chicken streams.
Funny how I have been a big Elder Scrolls fan since Morrowind and Oblivion but I never played TESO because I was busy playing WoW and FF14, now that I'm bored with those two games I finally started playing TESO (2 weeks ago) and all this bullshit happens. Guess I'll enjoy it while it lasts
>>2723904why are you playing ff14
>>2723904Even if Zenimax stopped making new content, this game already has 12 years of it.I started playing during blackwood and did everything in chronological order. Took me 1 year and half to get to the newest stuff (High Isle) at the time.
>>2723827They had way too many employees for a game like this. Fat needed trimming for sure
>>2724485It would be good if they did 400 people's worth of work instead of like, 40. They could have finished all the refreshes within the year and done a proper expansion in 27. Trimming the fat won't help if it turns out the entire company is fat, or if they can't hire new muscle to replace it.
>>2724669I'm sure someone in management tried but if they arent putting out the work in expected time the only thing you can do is cut. People will entrench and back each other up so it's impossible to know who's at fault
Whatever comes next can't be worse than Gold road and Ithelia

>>2723548I think the layoffs are a good thing. They're back to the summerset/wrothgar numbers. The thing that never made any sense to me is how you have so many people, and the best you could come up with is a season pass. More people means more/better content. (Which didn't happen)The new CEO is putting belt to ass. Todd getting Fallout ripped from his lying baby hands is the best news I've heard in years. Dudes were just sitting on their asses doing fuck all for like 14 years. I'm optimistic that this will lead to something better.
>>2726088Problem is they made them exclusive to specific spots in ancient zones that most players have no other reason to be in, you can't see it from outside the zone, and they end so quickly that if you do anything more engaging that survey farming you're likely to miss it. If you're not supposed to wait, why is it designed to punish anything else? In other news, looks like the composer/audio director was fired too.

>>2731244not much change thenuntil now, every lore addition to ESO had to be approved by bethesda
>>2731315That was only for story elements, this will impact content development for better or worse. Going to BGS for efficiency sounds comical, but their own development pace isn't actually that bad, Todd just has them doing bullshit instead of the projects people want. Meanwhile ZOS's pace relative to its size is completely fucking insane for whatever reason.

The game would improve significantly if all the trannies left
>>2734878But what would be left of AD?
>>2736429kek>>2734878the game would improve significantly if they wiped all classes and combat systems and started over. i don't want to bar swap 100 times to PVP with people.
>>2736429KeK
>>2736450Honestly not sure changes like that will happen with the games current popularity. The game is in decline population for the past like 6 years, but still popular enough that it isn't worth the risk.Sometimes I wish they'd bite the bullet and make the effects of oakensoul and velothi just toggable. Let players choose what kind of combat they want. But then I'm reminded how many people whined online when oakensoul was "good" and the "LA weaving community" got all pissy cause people were doing the same dps as them with minimal work.
>>2736571I'm convinced the popularity of weaving and barswapping is mostly survivorship bias. Same with the pvp quirks that allow for ball groups and 1vX. Probably too late now, but they would have gotten far more players than they'd lose if they had changed that stuff years ago.
>>2736794One of my earliest eso memories is finding a chest in a starter region and some cp3000 fat prostitute lit up like a christmas tree throwing shit at me to glitch me out of the animation and stealing my loot
The gameplay is fine. The only thing ESO need is more stuff to do (new content).
>>2737795Its really not. Combat is the #1 reason new players bounce off the game and current players are getting worn down by nonstop bad ideas and unfinished experiments.
As a returning player, I have to say, I'm glad to see so many of these little changes. The fact that they improved overland difficulty as a whole to me is a big drive. The story as a whole is what it is, but I had reason to actually engage with the game's mechanics, which is something I was never able to do, not since the very first days in which I tried the game. Are you guys sure the game is dying? Because it'd be a shame.
I'm redownloading ESO for hte first time im 3 years, what am I in for?
Is it true that people are expected to change gear between encounters in vet trials?
>>2738289No one actually knows yet, its a weird situation and we're waiting on a revised roadmap to see how the layoffs have affected them.>>2738322If you're doing hardmodes and such, yeah. I've never seen anyone demand it for regular vet runs.
>>2738245Nah. Most people leave the moment they realize this is not 'Skyrim but online', combat has nothing to do with it.If anything, the combat in on par with most mmorpgs out there
>>2727727I like my devs stressed out!I like my devs starving!I like my devs BROKE!I like my devs when they haven't seen their families in months!I like my devs divorced! TWICE!I like my devs fired when they suck at their jobs! That is when they do their best work. That is when they go hard in the paint.
>>2738503Yeah I suspect this is a huge factor of it. Most mmorpgs have shit combat, but are still popular. So many people play this game because they're looking for their next "TES" hit, including singleplayer games. I feel like that's why they've been so focused on story/solo experiences recently. I remember them talking about how in the middle of development, Skyrim blew up in popularity. And they had to readjust to try to account for all these people wanted Skyrim Online. Such as first person view. That was mainly put in the game because of Skyrim's success. But even that being said, most mmorpgs are dying/declining in population. People act like its unique to ESO, but all mmorpgs are facing issues atm.

>>2744302and how many trials you guys completed since then?
>>2750539Different people have told me this multiple times, but I can't see it. I don't mean to disrespect; if you're having fun, you're having fun, but I just came back, and it's bland, boring characters and events with no real impact whatsoever. Every single NPC that you interact with in the main story has a huge boner for you two seconds after you speak to them, unless they're the blatant villains. There are no real stakes, and, by the end of the day, you do the same stuff on repeat over and over, which, considering this is an MMO, it'd be fine, wasn't this also an Elder Scrolls, so I walked in expecting decent, or at the very least, fun writing too. Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong proceeding forward into the game, but my hopes are down.
>>2751476what are you talking about? Have you done the coldharbour quests? orsinium? there is consequences and nobody is gassing you up, much the opposite really.
ESO should be adapted into a movie
Is there any decent roleplay or, hell, even ERP to be found in this game? Or is it all a meaningless grindfest and I would be retarded to even consider playing this unless I really am fiending for a Scrolls-themed game?
>>2751883There used to be many communities but the AI moderation killed most of them.
>>2751883I see rp focused guilds being advertised pretty often, might be your best bet.
>>2751810No, haven't gone through the entire story yet. I'm level 32 and just got into Coldharbour. I'll give it a chance, and I'll be happy if anything after this point improves, but I gotta say: that's a lot of play time of nothing burgers in terms of story. So far, it has felt like a massive, meaningless grindfest.
>>2752004>AI moderationAlright yeah nevermindGood day tesog
>>2752108What have you been doing in the game? When I did daggerfall alliance when I first started I had fun. The vampire and werewolf questlines were so cool.
>>2752863daggerfall also has the advantage of more interesting politics, mostly because their king is kind of an idiot and that leads to more tensions
>>2752863I'm going through the Dominion stuff. Aided Razum-dar save the queen from the Veiled Heritance, helped the Bosmer king with the Silvenar and The Green Lady (both outrageously boring characters), found a new Bramble King, saved the Queen (again) from her treacherous brother, escorted a pair of khajiiti sisters through their journey to become the new the Mane (I couldn't care less about one or the other), and now I'm saving people in Coldharbour. Each of the characters I listed is outrageously two-dimensional and poorly voiced. Which could even be okay, if they were FUN, but they're not. The only guy I have a certain fondness for is Razum-dar, despite being the first example of a brown-noser in the game and never letting go.>>2752866I think that you nailed it. The politics for the Dominion are dull as all hell, and surprisingly self-serious. They seemingly refused to include the Altmer's more "problematic" traits into the game (relegating them all into the Veiled Heritance, with which you interact very little and they come across as charmless, mustache-twirling villains who object to the Queen’s right to the throne), meaning that (again, so far) they come across more as generic elves, rather than their usual butt-hurt, sanctimonious selves. It’s funny that you mention Daggerfall’s King, because my brain somewhat sparked back to life upon interacting with him before getting to Coldharbour.
>>2752947Oop, meant "Wilderking" not "Bramble King".I was thinking of another game.
>>27510460
>>2752947The AD questline is a process of the Eyes of the Queen replacing all local leaders with Dominion loyalists.
>>2752947the only AD zone I've done all of was auridon, and I really can't remember the main quest but quite enjoyed the ayleid stuff and it has a nice payoff with coldharbour. It's too bad that their quests weren't as fun as daggerfall covenantColdharbour is cool, though, especially if you've been doing guild stuff. Orsinium is worth doing afterwards because it's a really well done story.
>>2753498Maybe, but while what you say does sound like it would be written as something entertainingly nefarious (or, at the very least, cold and calculated), in the actual execution, they play it off like your Queen is discount Lady Galadriel and you're in a Marvel movie. The rulers you replace are often bad guys anyway, or have done something undoubtedly evil that justifies their removal. The Altmer are completely off character in that sense, with the Queen even proudly mentioning a somewhat secret relationship with Razum-Dar at some point, which comes off as a funny joke and something they're both genuinely happy about. And while that's cute, it's also not what I was expecting while playing for the Altmer faction at all, seeing as how they perceive Khajiits as nothing but cattle or pets at best, and that's only because they willingly bent the knee for them. So, they're supposed to be useful idiots to them. I wouldn't even mind if that was the only exception, but there are plenty of instances like this. Up to where I got, they want you to see Ayrenn as a good, levelheaded leader, which, on top of being a weird choice for the character, also winds up being bland, dull, and boring.>>2753498I might try the sidequests somewhere down the line. I did stumble across a few of them, and I didn’t mind what I've seen at all (in a good way). I also still have to try the actual multiplayer content, like dungeons and such. Don’t worry, though, because, while I sit here whining and complaining, I also played up until 5 AM yesterday. So, I might be oddly hooked to at least see where this all leads, and this is the only multiplayer thread I recurrently come back to check. So, they either did something right (especially with being able to crank up the difficulty level), or I’m deeply autistic for MMOs in which I can play weird, alien races. Probably the latter.
>>2754102Remember that Ayrenn is trying to replace "We should not associate with lesser races" racism with "We have a duty to rule lesser races" racism.
>>2754481 Even if she spelled it out loud somewhere in the story itself, I can't really see it. It never feels that way. But, even if you were right, that isn't the real problem. They can make her "good"; it can make sense for her to be (though that's a huge, missed chance for a cold, distant villain ruler, the sort that could have attracted the majority of players to its faction), the thing is, they forgot to make her fun. In the great scheme of things, her story beats still work, which is why I look forward to them doing something cool with what they set up, especially given that it looks like this anon >>2751810 might be right, and the quests outside the Dominion main line are considerably more entertaining. But up to level 32? It has been a drag. Which is a shame, I think this MMO had the potential to be the best out there. I'm growing fond of it myself, despite its problems.Which is why I'm sad to see a lack of updates and a somewhat weak community. Speaking of which, isn't it hellish that they set the chatbox balloons option off by default? Most people won't even notice you're trying to interact with them that way, and it's sad, because I feel like most of the time, whenever they do happen to notice the message, they reply, and it's fun.
Bro really said waycism
>>2755331In early development they intended AD to be the "evil" faction. They retooled to make it more generally appealing. I am a fan of the Ayrenn's not real theory.
>>2756056Personally, I would have preferred if they stuck with that. I think it would have made for a more fun run. As for the theory, I don't know how it plays out, but if it's entirely fan-made and the game doesn't hint at it in any way, then I'm not necessarily interested, but I'm curious to see why people would want to think that.As for the rest, I'm checking out a sorcerer guide, and I'm officially fucked because I like a dead game. Help.
>>2756237The Eyes of the Queen show they can disguise as her. The first act since her return she is associated with is the Massacre at Cormount, which aided King Camoran, who incidentally rules the capital of the Dominion (Elden Root). The official story of the timeline of her disappearance and return don't make sense.
>>2756492That would be pretty neat, but are you sure that's not just them overlooking an important detail?
>>2756508I don't think the game hints at it, but it makes more sense than the pile of bland characterisation and insensible goals of the Dominion formally.
>>2756591Welp, I agree. On a different note, any decent sorcerer sets I should go after at level 37?
>>2756656Sets don't really matter until cp160.

>>2758117uhh ok, any new areas or mechanics though since then?
>>2758643Solstice, an island they just made up and cobbled together out of previous expansion assets. That's the weird thing about the whole layoff situation, their output was already so bad that people thought they were a scrappy skeleton crew. Turns out their team was massive, and even after the layoffs its still around the same size as the teams that made Summerset or Orsinium, so its now clear that ZOS was bloated with garbage devs and actually needed to clean house. The layoffs *might* be good for the game.

They fucking fired Rich Lambert?
Anons, is there any way to get rid of this fkn fog in overworld locations? Most of the old mods that worked back in the Necrom and ReShades dont help anymore - either nothing changes or the game wont even launch. This might sound dumb, but i literally cant play because of it, locations with this fog look fucking depressing and totally out of place most of the time
>>2761165Delayed. It was supposed to be on the u51 pts which has been delayed twice now, and it seems there's a gag order on the subject. Last stream was like a damn hostage situation, they wouldn't even say the word warden.
>>2761169Yes, and he wasn't even on the ESO team anymoreGina is gone too
They definitely need to introduce a french maid costume, it's the only way the game will survive another year.
Probably no one gives a shit, but found a way to partially remove overworld fog, need to install Neat Perfection ReShade + some old addon fog remove (just the mod file itself, not the full archive) boom, done.Anyway, i visited Craglorn out of curiosity to check the pop. Zone chat is completely dead, no one recruiting for trials, barely anyone hanging around.Ported to Auridon, literally zero RPers near the wayshrine. Is it just off peak hours or is the game actually this sad compared to Necrom, pre Gold Road release?
>>2763396No one goes to craglorn anymore for trials since there is a dedicated menu for recruiting and forming groups now.

>>2765170not really...
>>2765170Justified though, both were collecting fat paychecks for basically no work. Rich's new position was a textbook fake job and Gina was just unnecessary, the actual devs should be perfectly capable of using their own forums and managing one or two monthly streams.
>>2765853Even still, this game's "behind the curtain" behavior is so gosh darn troubling. First director leaves to try to support blackbird. It gets cancelled, so he leaves. Person replaced him left the role after a year. Just looking at the way things have been going from a company standpoint. It really seems like they weren't investing into ESO that much. Like they weren't sure of its future or confident that it would not stop dying. I have to wonder if Microsoft came in, looked at ZoS, and saw that they weren't focusing on ESO. "You have an elder scrolls IP MMORPG. its your only released game. And for the past 3-4 years, you've been seemingly putting it on the backburner while you invest into all these other projects and not much to show for it. Half of you are fired, get back to focusing on ESO.".I mean they have like what, 200-250 people working at ZoS? If they can't support ESO with that size...ESO's engine/code pipeline must be an absolute mess.
How would you feel about a "let the player craft their own combat" system? Basically taking the concept of oakensoul ring and velothi and expanding upon then. Instead of those effects being something tied to artifacts, they're something you toggle. Either at a shrine in game or just at a settings menu like the difficulty slider. It would be split into three>Bar SwapEnable or Disable bar swap. Disabling it gives you the effects Oakensoul Ring has. Don't like bar swap? Use this setting>Light/Heavy Attack strengthEnabling or Disabling it gives you the effect of Velothi. Don't like DPS being as reliant on LA/HA weaving? Enable this>Global Cooldown ModifierA new one. People constantly complain about how the combat is "too spammy" with abilities. This setting will put a GCD on all abilities. However, it also will increase the strength of all abilities by a set amount. That way their DPS stays the same, but it just makes it so you spam less.Since the three main complaints about ESO combat are the bar swap, LA/HA weaving, and then the spamming of abilities; give players the ability to adjust these as needed. Would certainly give something unique to ESO. Not many mmorpgs let you "design" your own combat.Maybe at the start, only allow these things in the open world. To avoid any competitive impacts. Then see how they fare.
>>2767093Yeah, either the code is fubar or most of the devs are a waste of salary, probably some mix of both. There's no other explanation for the game declining so badly with a team that size. Well, maybe embezzlement but we'd have seen lawsuits or charges by now if that was the case.>>2767345My problem with all of these, whether they're toggles or items is that they're only bandaids over fundamentally bad systems. I'd rather see the weeds ripped out than spraypainted.>barswapStreamline buffs and roll dots into other skills, freeing up the backbar to allow for distinct playstyle changes instead of being a dumping ground for mandatory buff skills and short dots.>weavingJust needs to die. Wouldn't be a complex fix, make it so LAs can't be cancelled by skills specifically (dodge/block cancels are fine) and buff everything 10-15% to compensate.>GCDI think they're already doing a decent job handling this, with options for channeled playstyles vs more bursty combos.
I think that a 30 minute cooldown between dynamic encounters is way too much
>>2767513They're bandaids, 100%. But I don't think they'll ever risk a full combat rework so long as the game is alive. I think if they start dropping below 8k peak players on PC regularly, then they may consider a combat rework the way to go. OR they may just cut their loses and start focusing on a different game as potentially the rework would either require enough resources or be so risky that they would rather just release a new game. But dropping below 8k puts them in NW territory. Right now they're peaking at 13k-15k on PC probably. Now this isn't great mind you. It hasn't been this low since 2018. But I don't think its at a state where a combat rework is in the deck. That's why I'm thinking these "optional change bandaids" are the way to go. Let players choose. Less risk. >>2769560I think all 3 are on different CDs. So if you get the timing right, you can just hop between them. But yeah, the gist I got with this was that this content is meant to be side content. Things to do while you're exploring the world Not sit around waiting for them to spawn. The absolute dumpsterfire that these events become when you get more than 10 people is evidence of this to me. Problem is that people are starving for new content, so they are mass farming them. Along with this, they only release 3. They should have released 1 for each zone. One of these events is the same as a SINGLE regular dynamic event in Gw2. And they have ton of those going all over the place. I have to wonder if these events are them "testing" things out. See if its popular enough to invest more into.
So is the game on life support now that half the dev team was fired?
>>2769928not yet but it will probably be next year
>>2769928That's sorta up in the air. Things are unknown, but so far we haven't seen anything that points towards it being on life support. We will know for sure in a year from now. But here is some of the data>Team SizeZoS has over 200 employees working at their company. Their team size is the same as it was when they made their first DLCs that were released back in 2015. Which a lot of people liked. So they should have more than enough people to keep supporting their game. >Release TimingThe roadmap is up in the air, but nothing is cancelled. The only hint we've got is that "things may be delayed". To what extent, we're not sure. >Content TypeThey used to do this thing where it was one new zone, a new story to go along with it, and then some spattering of dungeons/trial a year. The problem is that the game has been trending downward since 2020 and this release cadence didn't seem to have an impact. So they reshifted their entire dev pipeline to support a "seasonal system". A battlepass like system with a free and paid track. BUT, all future content would be free. So for this year 5 DLC are going to be made free for all players. Two new main story lines. Class visual reworks. Misc systems like difficulty sliders. A new trial. But also some new experimental content. Dynamic events (small and large), sage's vault, and night market. They're also testing "solo dungeons" to appeal to those RPG players. So while it isn't any new traditional zones, you can make the argument that the resources used are similar. In short, we're waiting to see how the new content impacts player retention and if the release speed is enough to impact the 6 year decline we've been seeing. With ~2028 being the "riskiest" year for the game in a longg time.

you guys are actually still playing this?

>>2780243what would (you) do to fix warden?that class is a mess thematically. devs probably can't agree on how to proceed with it either
grandads master destro build still got it :0)
Here is an image comparing the roadmap published at the start of the year and the new one
>>2780512Thematics are easy. Declare that Warden is Skaal-themed and switch out the Morrowind critters for hawks and wolves. Gameplay wise, stam line uses plain animals to deal ST bleed damage and build stacks on the bear for burst windows, mag line slaps a frost skin on the animals and focuses more on sustained AoE with the frost ult. Then, offer skin packs that switch up the theme. Morrowind pack swaps in the old animals, turns the bear into a Kagouti or something, and reskins all the frost grey so it looks like ash storms. Then drop a Redguard pack as a tie-in for 6 with desert creatures and sand skins, and so on. People would throw their wallets at that shit. That said I doubt they halted the entire project over thematics. They could just shelve it and switch to something simpler like Templar or NB if that was all.
>>2777592That's just wishful thinking. If they were, they got replaced by AI that's merely going to write more of exactly this kind of garbage. You have to keep your expectations low.
>>2780981We do know the writing team was gutted (get fucked Tanlorin), so odds are actually pretty good. But I didn't say I expect the writing to improve because of it, at this point my expectation is that we won't even have enough content for it to matter.

Sage's Vault might've been close enough to something else for the legal team to get twitchy again, or maybe it got reserved for a location in TES6.

Really enjoying my skyrimjob legendary+survival mode playthrough, was tempted to want to port my character into this game. I read the thread and see that it's very close to maintenance mode, if I started now it will probably be dead by the time I hit max level and do all the overworld content. Shame. I actually bought the imperial edition of this game at launch, think it gave me a special mount and the Imperial crafting skin or something.
>>2794575>hit max levelI've been playing ESO for 5 years now and I'm nowhere near cp3600.>do all the overworld contentThis game has a lot of content. I'd say a minimum of 2 years to clear everything at least once

As someone who's been away for a while (I usually eso like 2 or 3 months per year) I have to ask. Is this game fucking over now with all the layoffs? How are things going?
>>2795122I think it's entering a death spiral that they won't be able to course correct in time. Blaming the layoffs is cope though, ZOS is just a dysfunctional company and that's probably why they got hit so hard in the first place. Warden's rework and the new trial were supposed to be ready around this time, being delayed into next year indicates the pre-layoff team wasn't even close to keeping up with their already too-slow roadmap and would've continued pushing back and scaling down content regardless.
>>2795205Apparently it's been reduced to like 7 people so they might be able to finish projects that were already in progress but I can't see that team doing anything entirely new.
>>2795239Not even close. They had like 500 employees, lost around 60 IIRC when Blackbird was cancelled, then 216 in the recent layoffs so its still quite large. Losing half the company is certainly disruptive no matter the size, but the game has been declining for years and the current biggest pain points all came from the pre-layoff team. The idea that they're a poor little skeleton studio starved by big corpo is just people struggling to understand why such a high profile MMO can't ever seem to get its shit together.

>>2814691each year they release less stuff and the quality varies a lot
>>2814691The answer will probably heavily depend on what kind of player you're asking is. What is constant though is that the game has been bleeding players since 2020, which was the skyrim expansion. So far, the game has lost almost 10 years of growth on steam in 6 years. Not good. The developers have recently changed how they will deliver content in the past ~1-2 years. Its unsure if this is because they are running out of money and are trying to maximize the resources they still have or if they are trying to be more experimental to stop the bleed and this new content delivery system allows them to do so. The developers themselves say its because the old content delivery wasn't sustainable and didn't allow them to be as experimental as they wanted. This new system does. That being said, all future content is becoming free with the new system. Plus various old DLC is becoming free. We wont know if this new system is "better" for the players content wise until 2027. Free content is free content though. Right now in 2026, it seems like they're going for a shotgun approach. They're testing all this content out trying to see what sticks, what is popular, if any of it has an impact on the bleed. They're not fully committing to any type of content so far though. Its almost like they're "teasers" for it. Like I said, probably to test. For me, the only things that have been of interest to me in 2026 have been the player experience improvements, class reworks, thieves guild questline (though could've been 100x better), high seas of tamriel event, and solo dungeons. In 2027 we're supposed to see a new trial (raid) with mount combat that will be interesting.
>>2814765>>2814779Thank you, this will be a lot to ponder over
No problem. I don't think the game is going to die anytime soon. I still peaks at 12k+ players a day, which is very successful. Out of the big names, it is the mmorpg that I'm most worried about. Especially for 2028. It struggles because they never found a way to "define" their game. For most of this games life, the main thing it has had going for it has been the elder scrolls IP. You've got games like WoW/FF14 which have things like a really well liked endgame and combat systems. Gw2 has its open world events and large scale stuff. ESO has never really had anything like that. The combat system is too controversial and I think that harmed it from gaining that endgame reputation like WoW/FF14. It doesn't really have any interesting/large scale stuff, outside of Cyrodiil. The open world events were just boring in comparison to modern Gw2. Maybe early day Gw2 it compared, but Gw2 kept expanding upon that concept leaving competitors behind, including ESO. Cyrodiil again was hamstrung by the controversial combat. They release a weird card game that was a bad decision and nobody really cared about. They did spell crafting, which ended up dying cause nobody cared about it after awhile. And another system that was held back by the combat. Spell customization felt like a major letdown and under utilized. Infinite archive ended up failing. The upcoming nowhere vault is a toss up. Hopefully it wont be another infinite archive. In my opinion, they should've invested more into open world/exploration/story telling. To leverage that TES IP more. Difficulty scaling in the open world was a great addition and a step in the right direction. But they should've invested more into these systems. How to expand upon questing, make more player choices impact. Replayability in quests. Better writing. More interesting companions (last two were meh, especially the high elf). Their tie ins with quests. Romance (Bg3 showed people love that shit). Less shit movement system for exploration. Etc
good old days
before this game gets EoS i hope the devs give vampire that werewolf rework and give it vampire lord or at least make vampire lord a skill skin.
>>2816413Agreed. To me, the vampire/werewolf aspect of this game falls under the umbrella of the story telling aspect of the game. They're a skill system that's heavily intertwined with story telling/world building. And its one of my favorite parts of the game. The amount of MMORPGs where you can be bit by either a player or NPC and turn into a werewolf. And it actually being an in depth system, not just fluff or a few skills you can use anywhere. But like with vampires, you have the whole feeding aspect. And how NPCs can become afraid of you, and you can use your vampire charm ability on them to make them like you/talk to you again. Or with werewolves and their whole transformation aspect. Those are the type of things they should've expanded upon.Like imagine if they took this system to the next level. And put in new unlockable skill lines like that where you have to choose a specific one. Like maybe you can become a cultist of a daedric prince or worshiper of a divine (can only do one at a time). And there's a whole cool aspect for each one similar to vamps/werewolves.
>>2816413Doesn't it already have vampire lord? They gave them their rework with Greymoor.

>>2818624I don't care for the opinion of e-celebs
>>2818624i mean hes not wrong but i still enjoyed myself
>>2817969Could be that anon meant an always on style of transformation similar to werewolf. You could probably run a high ult generation build and really pump out a lot of transformations that could bring you close to an almost always on uptime of it.That being said, I would love for all the abilities to see a rework/touch over for the most part. Mainly in the way of being more...useful? Like you look at werewolf builds now and they're obviously running full werewolf abilities. A lot of meta vampire builds have maybe 1 or 2 vamp abilities + the scion. A lot of the abilities don't seem that good to run. Or have alternative options that would accomplish close to the same thing and aren't vamp.
I remember how ESO used to look before they splashed yellow paint everywhere

>>2821296If this game was popular with the 4chan crowd we wouldn't have stopped doing trials
eso sheogorath has always been reddit>>2821296nobody cares about pve in this game anymore. the shitties won. making weaving irrelevant, hybridization and cross classing has made pve gay as fuck to play
selling the ordinator weapon styles at the same time as the shitty costume bundle is devilish
>>2821426tbf most of the discussion surrounding this game has been dwindling these past few years.TESOG is too dead these days for a trial it feels, though we could all potentially just use some heavy attack build since these seem retard proof and high dps these days.
>>2821881You might get ~5 anons to join for a trial but the rest of the group will have to be filled with random players
>>2821740>>2821881what happened to weaving?i haven't played for like 5 years.
>>2822392idk I use velothi ur mage
>>2822392Nothing. Technically it got nerfed in u35 but so did a bunch of other shit because they wanted to bring down the damage ceiling, so it was actually more important at the time and still relevant in conventional builds. What he's bitching about is the classes/items that have popped up over time allowing people to deal competitive damage without it.
>>2822392Turned into green lazor and two other abilities.
Who nerfed Hadran's Caravan and why?Killing innocent khajits was my hobby
>>2818624The quest was stupid and Sheogorath is pretty retarded but I liked Noth... sue me
>>2823212I liked Noth tooHopefully we will see her again in future stuff
>>2822392As others have said, you just have this small portion of players who think weaving should be the only viable way to play endgame. Not realizing it was probably doing more harm than good as its entire design is retarded. There's some builds/items that let you not rely as heavily on weaving as much. It still gives you like a 5-10% DPS buff because without it, people mentioned before threw a fit.
>>2823619IIRC eso's trial participation rate is staggeringly low compared to most other MMOs. There's definitely more reasons for that than just weaving, but I'd still wager its driven off far more players than it retained or gained.
are crafted sets still viable

The sheogorath quest is definitely a textbook example of flanderization of a character but I have to admit the khajiit character was very cute. 10/10, would tear her dress on the spot and rape her daily.
should i play werewolf
>>2825287Yea. I made my first werewolf char recently and it's a fun way to play the gameOne annoying thing is that approaching any friendly NPCs (overworld) in werewolf form will give you a bounty

Why was Solstice an island? It was the perfect shape and size to be Soulrest.
a wod crpg but you're not locked into vampire
>>2824463you can wear underwear. it doesn't get skimpier than that.
redguards run this general
>>2825570My schizo theory is that it was originally going to be Pyandonea. You can see it if you squint; an island of elves isolated by magic weather, and a high population of friendly maormer. I think they laid down some basic groundwork, then had to scrap the idea (maybe because their staff issues wouldn't allow for enough new assets in time, or maybe a Todd veto because he wants to keep the mystery or even use it for 6) and reworked it into Solstice.
>>2825458shut the fuck up, faggot. it ruined the game

>>2828489It made the game more fun. You sound like a whiny prick. I'm willing to bet you were one of the people constantly whining about how magicka builds could only use a staff, and would swear up and down 1h rune was coming next expansion, this time, surely this time, pinky promise.Staves only was boring as fuck.
>>2829342I think that's a couple of months old. Data mine had some reference to a "wolf companion" in U52. So people are thinking its a werewolf. Makes sense with the new zone supposed to be in northern skyrim. Since its furry-bait, will probably be a dude. Since most of them are not straight. >>2828758I think both did harm for sure. It kind of comes with the territory with what they did. When you start removing barriers in skills/abilities; people min/max and find the best combo. It ends up "hurting" build variety in the higher tiers as people will only want the best builds. However, for the average player they don't give a shit. Especially in ESO where the average player doesn't seem to do PvP or go beyond normal dungeons lmao. The game was in a state of bleeding players/decay before both of the changes went live. So it wasn't the cause. Devs were probably trying to find ways to shake up the combat and get people back. I think it kind of worked since average players seem to like it.
>>2828758Oh for sureBut to be fair, hybridization was a decent idea to get out of wrobels bullshit Morrowind-Elsweyr sustain changes too. Game played like total ass during that period.

Outside of those, there are DLC where you either need to purchase them stand alone, or you subscribe and you can play all DLC while subscribed.

>>2722403wait there's no fucking crossplay? lol so it's just dead on PC?
>>2836699It's the other way around, consoles are dead while PC still retains a good amount of players
>>2836711Oh I thought this game was way more popular on console. Is there a separate PC launcher? 12k concurrent on steam is quite dire for an MMO if that's all of them.
>>2836717There a three launchers on PC: Steam, EGS and the Zenimax launcherSteam is definitely the most popular one by far and I don't know a single person that use EGS
>>2836572nah. its still awful.
>>2836732>Steam is definitely the most popular oneDon't the Steam and EGS versions just launch the official launcher anyway? What's the point of paying for an additional DRM step?
>>2836717I'd say its probably that on steam + another 2-3k on the other platforms would be a good safe estimate. Some people like to delude themselves into thinking the standalone launcher has more players without any proof. The game was off of steam for like 5 months of its life. The rest of the time its been on steam. No way it has more. But its not dead yet. That's still a healthy population imo. Not great, but healthy. New world is a good measuring stick. If the population on steam starts routinely dropping to average ~6k players or less; then that is a very bad sign. Because that's around the performance that caused new world to shut down. We're not there yet. These upcoming patches will be very important to turn things around. But if the trend continues to go as it is, we will hit this danger zone in about 2-3 years. Coincidentally, in 2-3 years TES6 will probably release. That may make it worse/speed things up. >>2837037People are idiots on average. There's a HUGE population of gamers who will only buy games on steam. I remember when Gw2 released on steam and I think they said they broke monthly active users records for like the past 6-7 years. There's a reason so many companies release to steam even if they have their own launchers. EA and Blizzard being two notable examples. Having to go to a game's website to buy a game or download a different launcher is a barrier of entry that many wont cross.
Do people grind dungeons in this game like WoW or is it mostly just story/questing? Is the dps/tank/healer trinity required like WoW or a meme like gw2?
>>2837250At this point everyone has the sets and most meta sets come from trials or from extremely hard dungeons (for the average person) so you'd have to find guilds or friends, randoms are rarely tolerant and willing to farm the sets.
>>2836579It's too late. It's time to give hole.
