Is Lemmy really planning on selling the game and cashing out?

Is that why they fired half the staff?
>>
Previous Zed:

Just two more weeks until we get fully fledged NPCs with deep backstories and capable of performing a billion actions and giving you unique quests so you can hire them into your colony where you can rebuild civilization from scratch.
>>
After 41 released Lemmy said the next big feature would be NPC's. Just gonna do a little crafting/balance update in the mean time.

He also said they would continue to discuss NPCs in future blogs.

They did exactly two blogs discussing NPCs and in 5 years they still haven't even finished their 'smaller crafting update'.

They are just so full of shit its fucking unreal.
>>
>>2720525
no. far from half the staff, a small handful of people who didn't really do very much.

"the leaker" specifically did like 2 months worth of work over the period of 5 years, and the only way for him to protect his ego was to pretend it was a big conspiracy.

not being sold.
>>
>>2720959
and it will be a colony management sim as deep as rimworld

MP might have desync and bugs and dupes and braindead exploits but at least it doesn't have mods anymore either
>>

Zomboid's right to use Steam's workshop system should've been revoked years ago.
You can't make your game so fucking dogshit that people can inject malware through the workshop.
>>
>Game has semi-detailed calorie and weight system
Oh cool, so big fatasses can survive off their body fat without eating for a while?
>Lol no we also have a stupid hunger moodle which can kill you, yes you can die just because you're hungry
Thanks Lemmy.
>>
I just wanna shoot hordes of zombies with my pals, but there are apparently no guns in America
At least I can melt noserings into nuggets so I can forge a golden cup to drink bleach with
>>
>>2722058
>semi-detailed calorie and weight system
>retards need to eat for 100 man to barely gain weight
>negative calories is also a thing
>>
is there any mods to fix combat? its utterly shit to try stomp a zombie and stomp the grass instead
>>
>>2722225
Negative calories is such a fucking meme.
I can sort of understand what they were going for, but it makes zero sense that a human can eat food and it literally does not sustain them in any way.
There is no situation where eating 1000 fucking calories is a net-zero gain in energy. EVER.
Project zomboid characters can in theory eat thousands of calories over a week period and not a single calorie matters. They could eat 0 calories and have the same result.
>>
>>2722250
It is interesting how there aren't variable head stomping ranges, isn't it? I guess developement of glassblowing and pride flags takes priority in this zombie survival game.
>>
>>2722250
>Zomboid combat is abstracted, you don't actually swing for their head
>Oh lol whoops until they're knocked over where suddenly positioning matters and to an autistic degree
>Lol whoops sorry we also messed up and you need to stand ON their head for stomps to count as head-stomps, your foot pressing down on their head doesn't actually mean their head hitbox is being hit
I hate how Lemmy can't fucking decide if he wants abstracted RPG-like combat, or autistic isometric action combat mechanics.
You can't have both, that's not how things work!
>>
>>2722884
>you need to stand ON their head for stomps to count as head-stomps
How am I only just now learning this, my ass has always been upper chest to land the feet on the head. This game and its devs are such a mess.
>>
>>2722895
>How am I only just now learning this
Because this game's hitboxes, and documentation are fucking DOGSHIT.
Objective fucking TRASH!
>my ass has always been upper chest to land the feet on the head
If you are rather close to their head (upper chest) you MIGHT be hitting their head, but more often you're just hitting their torso hitbox. Your stomp basically takes place underneath you, rather than where your foot lands.
>>
>>2722884
>I hate how Lemmy can't fucking decide
You could probably describe 99% of PZ mechanics with that sentence
>>
>>2722898
Explains why my TTK on headstomping always felt so wildly variable, I must've technically been stomping on the torso hitbox for the longer ones.
What an actually awful dev team. Something this important to both the combat and realism should've been a priority fix years ago. So much other shit is sure, whatever, but the fundamentals of combat at the very least need to work as intuitively expected.
>>
>>2722907
>Explains why my TTK on headstomping always felt so wildly variable
Footwear also matters (not that the game explains this)
AKA, just wear any form of boots. There's no slow-down mechanic in the game yet so boots are just as fast to run around in as sneakers.
>>
>>2721232
>They are just so full of shit its fucking unreal.
this
>>
>>2722874
just have the player lose weight when they are at zero calories. eating stops weight loss, until calories drop to zero again. then set the amount of calories needed to gain weight at some value where the less the character weighs, the easier it is to gain weight.
or you know, actually use those fat/carb/protein values intelligently so that the player is expected to eat a balanced diet and cannot survive off fish forever.
>>
>>2722950
>Ingame calories are not calculated from carbs/fats/proteins
This one stupid thing makes food nonsensical.
You can in theory eat 1 KILOGRAM of fat, and not gain a calorie, according to ingame logic.
>>
>>2722974
well yeah, the game just tracks a separate value. but those values dont do much.
>protein is supposed to help gain muscle faster but for some reason you can consume so much protein you dont get the buff; one wonders what convoluted thought process led to this.
>fat/carbs are nothing except whether or not you gain weight.
>there is no energy system, calories apparently have nothing to do with how capable of labor the character is. any correlated effects are from moodles or weight-related traits.
and like almost everything in this game it was tacked on and then barely if ever touched for years.
i am sure i could sit down with a search engine and a text editor and come up with a much better system where fat, carbs and protein ARE calories, but why would i? why do TIS job for them?
>>
>look at clothing stats
>half of it is lying/nonfunctional
>eat food
>dont gain any calories
>try to sneak around zombies
>instantly spotted
>stumble and hurt myself running away
>get a bruise
>character instantly starts limping
>get wound infection
>remember i toggled the "everyone is infected" setting so i will probably turn into a zombie soon anyway and decide not to treat my wound
>it heals on its own
>run around the block for half a day looking for items and swinging a melee weapon at some zomboids
>get home
>start sewing some clothes
>my arms instantly become wet noodles from the hard labor
>decide to take it easy for a while and drink rainwater from the barrel i set up to collect water
>die
>>
>>2723044
>look at clothing stats
>half of it is lying/nonfunctional
Even the Cruelty Squad dev eventually got around to fixing armor. People legitimately thought it was intentional game design, a joke by the dev, but he still fixed it once he remembered to.
>>
>>2723044
>remember i toggled the "everyone is infected" setting so i will probably turn into a zombie soon anyway and decide not to treat my wound
To be clear, 'everyone is infected' merely means DYING from anything turns you into a zombie. Otherwise wounds work identical to vanilla. AKA, zombie bites are still lethal, everything else is safe as long as you don't bleed out.
Of course, there's no fucking documentation so nobody knows what any fucking setting does lmao.
I've played this stupid game for a decade and I still don't know everything.
>>
>>2723044
>remember i toggled the "everyone is infected" setting so i will probably turn into a zombie soon
That's not what it does.
It just means you'll turn into a zombie no matter how you die, as opposed to needing to be infected by a zombie first.
>>
>>2723044
>try to sneak around zombies
To this day, zeds check 1000 times per second to know if they spot you or not, so a 10% chance check becomes a 99.999% chance you're spotted per second. It's obviously insane, obviously must ass rape performance, and can be fixed in 5 seconds. Still has been in the game for years upon years with no sign of ever getting fixed despite "muh stealth update (we did literally nothing)".

>>2723364

It's a good idea executed in a stupid way. Staying holed up in one house is boring. Walking into the back yard isn't any less boring. (source: NEET hermit)

Each map cell should have a "sameness" value that counts up to some maximum while the player is inside of it. Cells neighboring an occupied cell would do the same, at a rate depending on how close the player is to its border (to prevent stupidity and cheese). This sameness value would slowly (maybe 5% of the increment rate) decay for unoccupied cells. And the player would passively gain or lose boredom proportional to the sameness value of the cell they're in.
>>
>>2723553
>Staying holed up in one house is boring
If you're some kind of retard who doesn't like reading/learning. Or apparently aren't aware you're in a zombie apocalypse.
Zomboid has a really shitty habit of being full of roleplaying mechanics but having zero options for what my character mechanically likes.
My character will eat raw mushrooms with a smile on their face, but freaks the fuck out from eating frozen bread.
I hate mushrooms IRL and am fine with frozen bread.

>Or apparently aren't aware you're in a zombie apocalypse
Not being able to leave makes it worse. It's why work sucks, it's why jail is a punishment. I haven't left the house in a week or two and IDGAF because I could go somewhere if I felt like it. At the start of the COVID lockdowns I had to drive around to nowhere just to stave off the feeling of captivity.

>Zomboid has a really shitty habit of being full of roleplaying mechanics but having zero options for what my character mechanically likes
More like arbitrary punishments, but agreed
>>

>Anon, I...
My bad, I forgot PZ characters are canonically modelled after PZ devs, and thus are basically dysfunctional morons.

the dumbest thing for me in this game is the fact that the crowbar is denied its one and only purpose in vanilla gameplay. i could actually give the benefit of the doubt for a lot of the bullshit in this game but the fact i need a mod downloaded in order to use the crowbar like a crowbar and bust open doors is actually retarded. Its like in universe humanity developed the crowbar as a weapon and not a fucking tool. the fact theyve never fixed this with a patch or something in all the years this game has existed makes me want to harm indie stone developers
>>
>>2724033
its clearly a balance thing
>>
>>2724148
i wouldnt mind it if it took a certain strength level or maybe even burglar trait to use the crowbar properly but no ability to use it as intended is nuts
>>
>>2724033
>>2724767
You can pry open windows but not doors

Yes it's dumb
>>
>>2724942
You pry them with your bare hands too.
>>
>>2723364
The funny thing is they COULD just lower the chance to be spotted to be miniscule to compensate for 10000 checks every second but they couldnt even be bothered to do that
>>
>>2724148
Just make it not work on security doors (which get melted near instantly by a small horde anyway)
>>2724942
That's using your hands nigga.
>>
>>2724951

Not if the windows are locked

We are coming up with new tactics to get the developers in trouble, to try force intel. We could utilize their social medias, fabricate messages and/or try to spiral further problems for them if they do not talk. This will be in response to the Baph reveal where it was discovered no work on NPCs has been done.
>>
>>2726365

Waste their resources with deceitful reports, it's the best way to do it these days. It costs money and causes stress on individual developers because they think they are trouble when they get called in to talk about something they have no insight on.
