Okay, so first off, how the fuck does this game HAVE SO MANY GRIEFERS

Like my ban list is gigantic, yeah yeah, "ITS UR FAULT FOR MAKING IT PUBLIC RETAAAAAAAARD" valid, valid.

But, as I'm playing, why is there so many griefers? Like an absolutely exceptional amount of them. For a game that has no real "barotrauma trolling" youtubers the same way that red dead redemption 2 roleplaying has it or GTA 5 RP, where the trolling is 100% deserved. just a nonstop array of children and middle easterners/russians sprinting for any explosives, poison, or blowing up the reactor with zero provocation, and for what? to get instantly banned with no knowledge of the seething unless they happened upon this very thread, even getting multiple copies of the game to continously keep griefing.

Anyway, I died to a TRIO of griefers, whom I previously banned which means they actually went and got more copies of the game where I banned two, but the last one managed to kill me and a friend. Does anyone here have the know-how to do the files to force my character and his back, while keeping the game in ironman and still able to get steam achievements?

>why is there so many griefers?
Because it's a SpaceStation13-like, a very accessible one. SS13 (and SS14) has trolls, but those are just the dedicated freaks who had the time and autism needed to learn it's mechanics. Most would-be trolls end up getting filtered by the clunky gameplay and horrible UI, and the ones that do make it past the filter just get banned by moderators anyway.
Barotrauma has similar gameplay and mechanical depth, but is too accessible for it's own good. Anyone can learn the game in a single session, so it only takes a troll a few minutes to learn how to nuke a reactor.

outside of poverty runs on the dugong or whatever you need a high ratio of autists correctly pantomiming their roles relative to players fucking around or getting in the way for it to be fun
it's not really a party game or sandbox you can drop into with the drawn out campaign, character building/mutations and the time and tedium cost of big mistakes (and ""mistakes""). thus most of the people hosting/joining pubs are totally unserious and last I checked half were constant third world deathmatch, finding a closed group is non-negotiable if you want to play without rolling back every hour or two

Started playing this weekend, still learning the game on singleplayer.

How much different is the multiplayer? At what point should I try it? I imagine newbs with no actual knowledge of the game have a hard time?

find a group that wont troll you (difficult). otherwise, it's pretty fun even if you are a noob like i am. also, make sure what jobs you enjoy before you dedicate to a full campaign with a group.

How long does a campaign last?

If I find and sink an enemy submarine, can I fix it up and take it with me?

Is this vanilla or modded?
I remember on that going from unmodded to a 10 mod modlist it went from a griefer an hour to one in a week but this was a few years ago.

A full campaign? 80hs if you go in blind with your friends, if you know how the game works you can do one in 20hs

multiplayer is great because you can trust other humans to do mundane tasks without constant oversight. assuming your humans are trustworthy that is.
last time i played i was in hell because i was somehow left in charge of all repairs, reloading all gun boxes and weapons, feeding the pets, watering the plants, AND running the reactor. The captain was okay, security was tight, and the medic was an alcoholic hording all the alien organs and wasting my compounds on 20+ copies of every medication in the game.
oh i was also the one doing all the away missions

i play as captain and i get a lot of the oddjobs+ive ended up being the medic. luckily, my friends are good about reloading/refilling boxes and mining quickly when we pull up to minerals.

i do wish bots were better about manning the reactor as i always have insufficient power and not chugging all the drugs at the slightest bit of damage.

unless the game has a million mods to make it more mechanically challenging the only fun comes from tard wrangling griefers or being the griefer

learn to wire your reactor so it can manage itself, once you do you'll be angry at yourself for not doing it before. you wont have to waste your time dealing with it anymore, if done right you'll have so much power pumping into the engine that you'll complete tedious busywork missions in the blink of an eye and easily avoid fights you dont think you can win. if you aren't confident your wiring is foolproof you can just wire up a smoke detector to a sprinkler or a reactor shut off switch. countless hours in single player watching bots fuck everything really pushed me to experiment with jury rigging all kinds of automated bullshit around my subs until they were unrecognizable. was pretty fun essentially pulling a han solo and turning my hunk of shit cargo freighter into a genuine hot rod with an assortment of big red buttons that could save me in any kind of situation

any tips for wiring specifically the reactor? i've never been good with wiring/programming/redstone in vidya.
