Angels fall first thread. They fucking made it, after 10 years they finally did it.
>>2720818So who is going to host the /vm/ server?
>>2720818I bought this, have only played a bit so far. I kinda like it but it also feels like >Look everyone we made a nostalgia/old school shooter!
saw this released but didn't see any uploads of it
>>2721778I mean its been in development for 10 years so it originally wasn't old school.
>>2720818Some of the systems in the game looks almost intentionally designed to be jank. People in 2016 already knew how to make a good UI mang.
>>2722588If you'd believe it, it used to be worse. The current UI is at least almost a decade old by now, though.
>>2726534I can believe that. The loadout system seems to be designed to specifically filter zoomers out. I love it.
>>2720818Which gun is best gun for mid range, and how come some dudes are made of paper when some are unkillable?
>>2730371Lights are super easy to kill, heavies can get uparmored and be excessively tanky. A gun for mid range depends on what you're willing to risk. The faction rifles should be fine enough for general purpose work and the factionless carbines can also do some work. The SAR can be a solid choice if you want a space M16 burst, but you have to deal with overheating. If I remember right, the A420 does the same damage per shot and is full auto, but it doesn't have an underbarrel slot.
>>2722301>10 years>3rd place winner, MakeSomethingUnreal 2009!alot longer than that
>>2720818game reminds me of Nuclear dawn from way back mixed with battlefield 2 good shit, wish this game came out sooner though, even if it released in the early 2010s it would probably be just as empty as the games like it but atleast it has bots
>>2743495Empty? Even deadhours there are full servers if you dont care about region, many days i can always play a full US server even at 6amhell they even have full OCE servers(sometimes)
Seriously though why is the balance in this game shit.>Fire is objectively the best bullet type, it's just free damage, don't even get me started on corrosive>Shotguns take like 4 hits to down something moving mach speed>Infiltrator means you're immune to gay vision memes and you get ablative armor preventing one shot, why use anything else>Rail cannons shit on infantry from a mile away and vehicles, everyone has one in their back pocket because lol two primaries>Fighters and bombers get shredded>Anything that isn't the hitscan long range cannon in space will get you killed in dog fights>Drop ships evaporate, even if they make it the drop shop pod just gets nuked by a bomber Knifes based though.
>>2744785It would make better balancing if there was a pve mode somehow. Maybe stack the match with 1 or 2 squads of humans against 50~ bots
>>2744785>Fire is objectively the best bullet typetrue>corrosive corrosive is for applying health debuffs over and over and over again to pesky vehicles you cant manage to kill. Theres no limit on how many times you can do this and lower their health, its still the worst one tho.>Fighters and bombers get shreddedas opposed to what? bombers arent even supposed to be about surviving anyway>Anything that isn't the hitscan long range cannon What long range cannon>Drop ships evaporate, even if they make it the drop shop pod just gets nuked by a bomber Shoot them back, you have more health and better weapons than any fighterbombers nuking pods is real but that just makes coordinating the first wave more rewarding than trickling in. the pod has temp invuln for the first wave animation.
>>2744785I dogfight using exclusively close range weapons and have been absolutely dunking on people in online servers. Also shock bullets tear through shields in space, would recommend.
>>2744785Oh and to add to railcannon>Can snipe objectives with it>Can snipe drop ships with it on defense>Can analy rupture vehicles the moment they show up
>>2746210>Can snipe objectives with it>Can snipe drop ships with it on defenseYou can do these with the MLI too though, it even has more splash and dps>Can analy rupture vehicles the moment they show uptrue, cant outrun 16 retards firing deathbeams at you
>>2748378Meant to say gunships oops lol
Annnnd it's dead, fuck modern gaming, just add mods at this point, so players can make game modes for servers or something
>>2764920people dont play old-fashioned play for fun MP shooters anymore. theyre all some latest fotm like a battle royale / extraction shooter and GAAS. its a shame.
>>2743462you tell me this games core is from 2009 and now Im interested. tell me more, I am skeptical though. did they manage to keep their design philosophy consistent throughout the years?
>>2764926My belief for why this happens is social media brainrot. well thats putting it in laymans terms but essentially I believe that the modern world, with its understanding of marketing psychology, mindrapes the social validation part of the brain for more profit. Influencers, FOMO/FOTM, skins/vanities, hype culture. but theres one method thats been as old as time, competitive idolatry.you see, every game now that makes it big or has some longevity is "esports ready". theyre all designed to 1. be played one way, and 2. to have a leaderboard/loot/research (tech tree) grind. These games directly impose inferiority onto the player and a a result they develop an interest and yearning for the ideal, as man does in society. And so the gamer watches extra content to vicariously experience that ideal. gameplay vids, kill montages, and, the one that actualy makes the money, tournaments. by design these games want you to fawn over esports, to pay for esport merchandise, to give up mental space thinking about playing like the pros. Its the same vein as social media influencers and celebrities, royalty show off their lives and people obsess over that. In the zoomer mind (well, id just call it the normie mind since esports and comp cancer started with our generation) playing a game purely for fun leaves a hole in his heart, a hole dug out by the corrosive mental jewery that is modernity. A game cant be satisfying on its own, there must be some tacked on social aspectIts a terrible thing. mans natural emotion of inspiration and awe twisted and manipulated for profit. And you cant say this manufactured "competitive spirit" is a good thing either (because le git gud le skill increase) because in order for one to have continuous profit there must be continuous demand, ie youre never supposed to make it to the top, to be content. Stay in the rat race GOY. Grind the battlepass, buy the skins, vent at your team instead of the game design. discontent leads to addiction after all
>>2766197I think its going to depend heavily on the genre of gaming we're talking about. Because there's quite a few genres where this isn't true. And the draw of those games is almost "mobile-like" in nature with dopamine hits and such. But yeah, when you look at steamcharts the top 10 games, like 6 of them have audiences that I think are primarily populated by the people you are talking about. But FPS players are 100% more like what you're saying than most genres. That desire to "be the best" and religiously follow whatever min/maxed guides they can find. To be in that viral clip and shit. All that being said, I don't think its the biggest issue in the industry today resulting in this situation. And that comes down to choices and live service. There are just an insane amount of choices for gamers now. 1000s of games are uploaded and released on steam a day. A number that is only increasing each year (and will continue to do so even faster as "AI development" becomes more polished). During the golden era of gaming when most of the most popular franchise found their footing, a core component of that was that players had a lack of choice. Physical game stores had limited shelf space. You went in there, you were lucky to find 10-15 games that looked interesting to you that you'd want to spend money on. And I think that helped bring popularity to these franchises and helped them retain players. As the players didn't have anywhere else to go. Along with that, live service. Games are lasting an INSANE amount these days. The average lifespan of games now is enormous. So players have much less reason to go out and try something new. Let alone stick with it as they will eventually go back to XYZ game that they've already invested 100s of hours into. So many top games are 10+ yrs or more.Look at the nomad gamers. New game goes viral. HUGE pop spike at launch. 3 months later, 90% gone. Elden Ring, Bg3. No matter how good, it happens.
>>2766286Youre right, I should have said my mp experience mainly comes from shootys. Your longevity statement also makes sense. the majority of gamers are casuals just winding down with a few matches after work, and I think thats why COD keeps selling. Its a household name at this point. I do the same too, I dont really play shooters anymore besides some tf2 when I feel like it. added to that, money spent in game as well as grind time adds sentiment and Im sure modern devs bank on this too. a blessing and a curse I suppose. We want to have mainstay games but having a mainstay game means less reason to try out new games. Mr scout main 15000 hours tf2 wasnt playing much else
>>2766360>We want to have mainstay games but having a mainstay game means less reason to try out new gamesI should say this wouldnt be a bad thing if the new age mainstay games werent mindrape moneysinksthat no one really enjoys
>>2766454Yeah agreed. So many games that release these days are painfully medicore. Where there's not really anything they offer that is unique enough to draw the attention of the average player longer than a couple of weeks. As for angels fall first, I think it is a great game. Its literally what all the "Man I wish they would remake BF2142" players would want. Or the old school ETQW players would want. But it barely pulled in any players. My guess here is that like you were saying earlier. There's no social popularity aspect to being good at the game to peer pressure people into buying that. Coupled with how insanely hard it is to get people to actually notice your game enough (market wise) to buy it. I bet like 80% of the BF/CoD players have no idea AFF exists. Or they do, but they forgot about it in a week or two. I read some marketing thing that said something along the lines of "You need to force a person to notice a game 5-10 times before they buy it". I also think the skill gap is another thing in FPS games. A single good player can dominate a match and force others to quit out of frustration. Just the way average people are. Look at BF, they've been trying to solve this. Trying to remove leaderboards in 2042. Removing player servers. They did this for many reasons, but this was one. Players don't like dying, even if they're bad. And they'll quit and do something else than tough it out. So new players try a game, get dominated, quit and go do something else. Really tough thing to solve.
>>2766647I noticed that when I tried getting hs friends to play tf2. I wasnt good at the game but there was some unexplainable pull that kept me in death after death, but when I tried csgo I didnt care for it at all. I guess some games have that effect on certain people, and everyone has "that" game that does it for them. I feel like once again quick and sugary mass convenience/appeal marketing has hampered this aspect of the gamer environment. oldgens have "that" game for them, and only a few are willing to drop it, newgens are too used to quick and easy dopamine hits, and are more sensitive to negative situations (at least from what little Ive heard) and thus cant tank the respawn timer or go "yah I died but the stuff i was doing before that was fun".however in that vien I dont understand how battle royale or extraction shooters happen to stick around for so long. For me I cannot stand the single life return to lobby system. Its an fps, you can die fast, plus you make a game where tedium/risk is the main emotional focus (looting gear), with the fun pvp bit being just one spot at the end (well, the end for the loser of the encounter). Yet zoomers seem to be ok with grinding those games out, enough so that its become the new industry standard (or was)
When it comes to BR, I think it comes down to a few things. Fortnite and PUBG was Genz's major game. They grew up as children playing games like that. Fortnite and Minecraft seemed to dominate a majority of GenZ's gaming childhood. So any games that are similar to those games that they played (or even the popular MC custom game modes), GenZ will end up being more preconditioned to like it. For example, RTS games and MMORPGs. Both of those game genres skew heavily towards the older generations. And along those same lines, many people who are in their 30s and 40s who are playing these games a lot...well many of them had childhoods that were dominated by these genres. Alongside this, streaming culture and that whole digital celebrity idolization really took off alongside BRs and Extraction shooters. Just like what they were playing, these kids also watched a ton of digital content from creators. Especially since BRs and extraction shooters are very good at creating an environment that is entertaining to watch. That high risk environment. The huge reactions when you lose all that work. When you finally win in the BR. Its very...clip-able in terms of that sphere is concerned. Like I remember sitting there and it seemed like CS/Minecraft/Fortnite dominated the streamer space when GenZ were kids. Finally like you were saying. They're quick. You hop in, play for an hour or two. And because they're designed as high risk/high reward condense in a single "game"; players can get those dopamine hits in greater concentration, without a huge timesink. In short, they're quick. They're large dopamine hits. And for GenZ, major childhood and pop culture tie ins.
>>2764920you can fill a server so im not really sure why steamchart shitposts matter to you. just play the game if its fun man, who fucking cares what other people are doing.
I wish there was more lore stuff
>>2780690they have a wiki if you look up strangely interactivelots of lore from the other iterations of this from when it was other things, like a homeworld mod
