>What is this?
Yume Nikki is the classic RPG Maker 2003 dream exploration game known for its surreal worlds and atmospheric soundtrack. Numerous fangames following its formula have been released over the years.

>Online?
https://ynoproject.net/
A platform for playing Yume Nikki and many of its fangames online with multiplayer support.
The general consensus among anons is, however, that these games are best played alone on your first playthrough.

So after installing the English RTPs, which solved some of my issues, I'm still running into one more issue with DE i CIDE where panoramas in some areas don't load, resulting in a "Image Not Found: Panorama" error. Do I have to download the Japanese RTPs now? If I change my system locale to Japanese to install them, then change it back to English, will this break the installation?
>>
>>2726697
It shouldn't, that other anon basically told you you can just install both without worrying. People generally install the Japanese RTP (with the corresponding locale) for japanese fangames like these though.

So switching my locale to English won't break the installation? I don't wanna stay with a Japanese locale and I don't want to have to constantly switch locales.
>>
>>2726764
Just switch, then after it's installed you can switch back to the English locale, EasyRPG should handle the rest (I think). If that doesn't fix it, it might be something else actually related to the filenames, something about their encoding.

I know .flow and 2kki are ones that are suggested a lot, but are there others that are particularly worth trying out? I've only ever played the original game with the fan translation that was around in 2009.

So I downloaded the Japanese language pack, changed my system locale to Japanese, and still ran into problems installing the Japanese RTPs.
You know what how I eventually got them to install? Re-downloading the files from the website. Apparently just the fact that they were downloaded on an English locale fucked them up and made them useless.
However, installing the Japanese RTPs didn't solve my problems. So I looked into DE i CIDE's own files and saw that several had that fucked up text that is apparently what Japanese files turn into when downloaded to an incompatible locale.
So I think I'm gonna need to re-download the whole game. Are the save files salvageable? It's those Save01/02.lsd files, right?
>>
File: 1476260238652.jpg (55 KB, 600x510)

>>2729000
The save files should be unaffected by reinstalling, just make sure to back them up obviously, you can just copy and paste them in the corresponding folder after you're done.
Also seems like it was a filename encoding issue after all, that's always been an issue when trying to play some of these older japanese RPG Maker games.

>>2728161
There are a TON of them and it's honestly difficult to tell, anon above is playing DE I CIDE and it's seemingly very cool but flew below the radar of most of the people on this site.
Beyond that, the usual recs are
>LcdDem (considered one of the best although abandoned and unfinished)
>Yume Nisshi
>Yume Graffiti
>Answered Prayers
>Ultraviolet
>Someday
>Mikan Muzou
>Deep Dreams
>Yume Tsushin
and a whole bunch more I might be missing because I'm not that well versed in the majority of these fangames myself, there's a bunch of other games on YNO that might be cool too, depending on your tastes.
I got to say that 2kki is another beast entirely, since it's a collaboration project that's been going since the late 2000s and still gets updated to this day by multiple authors (the quality varies a lot though), being the largest fangame to exist by far.

We're back in business. Everything works now, I just needed to redownload the game on a Japanese locale so the files were encoded correctly. Thankfully my saves were able to transfer over as well.
Funnily, what seemed to not be loading was this basic black background. I assume it came with RPGMaker as a default and thus was encoded in old Japanese locale script and that's why it didn't play nice with English locales despite most of the rest of the game functioning properly.
>>
An eye for an eye... and some such.
This is the "warp back to the Nexus" effect for this game. Except much like other things in this game, it involves a dramatic animation where Inahoozuki floats up into the air and teleports in a flash of lightning.
>>
It's a Yume Nikki-like staple; the big fuck-you maze, chasers optional. In other words, this is the Hell equivalent, and oh look there's a portal to the Dark World there.
>>
Super Hell, complete with eye-searing hues of red. Oh, and some badass metal theme music, too bad about the lack of a proper loop, though.
I don't know what those jellyfish creatures do, and I don't think I want to find out.

Oh boy, another shadow girl. The last time I interacted with a faceless girl who looked like me, I got locked in jail. Well that's all water under the bridge now, isn't it?

damn after all those dark rooms this has got to feel like a flashbang, are there any uploads of the soundtrack? You got me curious.
>just checked
nvm there is apparently nothing uploaded surrounding this game other than the wiki info, it really is very niche.
>>
Finally got out of that eyesore of a maze. Now where am I? This shade of purple means I'm definitely somewhere in the Dark World.
>>
Found a portal back to the Light World, killed another Lock Girl, and somehow found my way to this back alley area that connects to the bloody out-of-breath zombie world.
I thought I explored that world thoroughly and didn't see anything except the Russian Roulette. Maybe this was just one way. Or maybe I just missed it like I missed that bookshelf in Space World.
>>
At least I got this... windmill. Of friendship, of course.
>>
I went back to this world on a whim... and suddenly my ears are graced with a metal soundtrack that wasn't there before. It seems I had more problems than just panoramas and effects that I didn't know about. I did think it was awfully strange that this area just had no music the last time I came here. Now I know why the NPCs here are headbanging.

This is cool stuff anon, these posts are making me want to try this game out at a later time, too bad this thread is kinda empty atm, not many anons made the jump from /v/, hopefully they start showing up later, this thread could potentially stay up for multiple months.

I saw that they tried making a new thread a few hours later but it didn't survive the night/early morning, plus it used an unfortunate op image that sparked some memes kek.
I think Yume Nikki threads on /v/ need some downtime, like that other anon said making so many so close together might be forcing it, though anons seemingly really want to talk about these games. I would just continue posting here until enough of the lurkers there find out about this thread, if you were to make a thread now I feel it would just get archived otherwise, it's very late in the burgerlands atm.
>>
BAD MEDICINEIS WHAT I NEED
>>2730152
I've carried my .flow threads almost singlehandedly before, but sure, let's see how many of them come here first.
>>
Okay, this is getting epic. How many red flags does this bitch have by now?
>likely mentally ill with murderous tendencies (Straitjacket)
>suicidal tendencies (Russian Roulette)
>occult addict (judging by the themes of her dream worlds as well as the Angel effect)
>now drug addict
What's next for Ms. Menhera here?
>>
I used that helpful Eye effect to transport to the Dark Nexus from the first available portal.
I notice that there's one less door in the Dark Nexus than the "normal" Nexus, and it's the one that leads to the bloody breathing zombie world. I can only imagine how deranged that one will be in the Dark World.
Anyway, the Dark version of the Angel Statue Park is filled with gargoyle statues instead and a dissonant, deranged piano soundtrack.
>>
I forgot to mention that before I teleported, I picked up another effect in the Dark version of the area I was in.
Glasses. Just peachy. And when you put them on the screen starts shaking. Either they don't fit her or she doesn't need glasses to begin with.
>>
Moving through this area was a pain much like it was the last time. You have to find the statue that teleports you into the water, then move through the water until you find another statue that teleports you back on land. The area itself is huge.
>>
Back at this church again. Last time here I got the Angel effect. I can hazard a guess what I'm going to get this time.
>>
And it's exactly what I expected.
>>
It's fairly interesting seeing the dichotomy presented here. This guy on the other side of the mirror, he's the other protagonist of this game. You can switch to him via an NPC in Inahoozuki's Dream Room. The developer recommends completing Inahoozuki's story and getting her ending(s) first, though.
>>
I remember someone in the last thread talking about how Urotsuki's chainsaw and Sabitsuki's iron pipe got powercreeped by Inahoozuki's Angel lightning.
Well, guess what? It gets worse. Once you get both the Angel and Devil effects, if you equip them one after the other, they'll "combine" to make Inahoozuki into this monstrosity whose effect is an AOE nuke that clears the entire room of NPCs at once, INCLUDING CHASERS! The only limitations it seems to have is that Inahoozuki moves really slowly when it's equipped and that it doesn't affect the Lock Girls, presumably so it's not too easy to get them. But still, what other Yume Nikki fangame MC has a fucking magic screen nuke?
Also, if anyone cares, I made a thread for Yume Nikki and associated games over on Infinitychan.
https://(eight)chan.moe/bv/res/6564.html
>>
Once I went back to the Nexus, this music box just appeared out of nowhere and gave me an effect. An incredibly useful one at that, as it lets me move between the Light and Dark dream worlds at will without needing a portal. There was that one area that the Dark Nexus was specifically missing a door for. Oh boy, can't wait to check out the dark version of THAT area.
>>
Maybe it's not QUITE as bad as I was expecting it to be, but still, it's quite unsettling. The pitch black void, the blood and corpses everywhere, many of which look like they were crucified, the complete lack of NPCs in this version, the "music" that sounds like the growling of a ghoul, and to top it off, the random bloody handprint that jumps at you from time to time with the "ehehehehe" laugh is now an outright screamer. So if you don't like screamers, don't linger in this area for too long. There is one effect here and an entrance to Super Hell and that's it.
>>
That one effect? Surely this will be useful as a reward for braving this nightmarish area... oh. It's just sticking a fat metal object in my head. The worst part is that she loves it.
>>
That same bookshelf was in the Dark version of Space World, aka Blood Moon world. It lead to a darker version of the Square Enix RPG passage and then this area, where I'm face to face with yet another doppelganger of myself, this time wearing the Angel+Demon effects. Oh boy.
>>
She just talks something in zeroes and ones. Meh.

Seems to be more gibberish, how much text have you encountered so far (I even tried checking for morse)? I wonder how difficult would making a translation be, these games generally get "fast" translations since the text is minimal, only issue I see are the potential images with text you were mentioning.

>>2730558
Also wow I'm surprised infinity even still exists, but judging by the activity that board is very slow, potentially slower than Ubuu. Then again you may also be Uboachan's fastest poster if you started posting your playthrough on /fg/, idk how they might react, that site feels more like a fossil/time capsule nowadays.
Maybe next YN thread whenever someone makes one would be the best place to shill this thread (just not excessively) to see if people will move here, I think this is one of the comfiest boards there is.
>>

Statistically and realistically speaking, given your concerns, you are more at ""risk" posting in 4chan without a vpn than you are playing YNO or any online game.

IPs aren't enough to know who you are. Being paranoid is normal nowadays but you're taking it too far. Just take it easy.

>how much text have you encountered so far
Mostly while talking to NPCs, once while examining a door in the Jail, the Music Player menu (yes, did you know this game has a soundtrack player? it's in Inahoozuki's Dream Bedroom), and then the locked door in the Dark Nexus which tells me how many Lock Shade Girls I have left to kill.
>Then again you may also be Uboachan's fastest poster if you started posting your playthrough on /fg/
Maybe, but Uboachan evidently REALLY doesn't want me posting there. I tried to post something and got blocked with a "Your request looks automated. Post discarded" error, and assuming it was some sort of IP block, went to Tor only to find out they block Tor exit nodes and VPNs just like this website does. With so many barriers just to making a single post there, it deserves to be dead.
It would be nice to get people on Infinitychan if I could. There, I can post multiple files as well as direct gameplay recordings without having to compress them and remove the sound from them.

I get your sentiment, but I've been lurking there for a while and they've had a lot of botting issues as well as CP bots flooding the board in the past, which is why they became a lot more strict in that regard, dunno what you did to get flagged though.

Since nobody called me a faggot for posting some of the dsfwan music used in the 2kki 825 maps back on that /v/ Yume Nikki thread, I decided to compile the full list of songs used in those maps:

https://youtu.be/NFoc3EAee44
>Holographic Reef (Spiral Staircase)
https://youtu.be/yzVFwpF_miY
>Water's Edge
https://youtu.be/O-aN_Di7vAY

Took me a while to find some of them (they really like making finding their music difficult) but they're a good listen, so I figured I'd share. They kinda stick out a bit in 2kki but they're fitting all the same IMO.
>>
At last, the door is open. Everything is about to end.
But first, a quick recap of how we got here.
>>
I found myself back in the Hospital/Art Alley, or whatever it is, from Hell down there. I saw this staircase the first time I was here, but didn't know how to get to it. Turns out there's a hidden passage behind the bed in the next room over.
I checked out the Dark Hospital area (aka the Jail) again just to make sure there was nothing I missed, and evidently the only thing of note there is the faceless Inahoozuki clone event who locks you in that cell. If you back in, the door just locks behind you immediately, trapping you again. There was also a lever that I pulled but never figured out what it did.
>>
Ah, the dark version of Heavy Metal world. Still the same banging soundtrack, just downtuned significantly, it seems. No room with an effect here this time, just an entrance to the path of musical notes. Also, all the speakers leak blood for some reason. How do they work, then? Satanic ritual magic?
>>
This is an area I've never been to before. It looks like a path of sound mix meters. Fairly straightforward path, just keep going down between the gaps. Not so much for the Light World version which I will get to.
>>
I got blocked off by a shade girl in the dark version of this path. Protip; when you see the shadow of a girl in either the Light or Dark worlds, it means it's a Lock Girl who's on the other version of the area. Good thing I had the Music Box effect to switch at will. So I did that and zapped this bitch out of the way, only to find a dead end. It's that tiny hole I might have mentioned earlier which requires an effect to shrink me to go through. So I backtracked and the way back to the Music Meter path is blocked by an effect box. It's... Argon gas. Yes, it literally turns Inahoozuki into gas. She becomes invisible, and the only way to check her position is to press the effect button which makes a question mark pop up over her to indicate her position. Completely useless.
>>
Okay, so the path forward leads to a dead end. Let's try the Dark World version, then. ...And it leads to another effect box roadblock. Oooh boy, I can sprout flowers out of my head like I got hit with a Lip Stick in Smash Bros now.
>>
The Light World version of the Music Mixer path is a teleport maze. I hate teleport mazes. Good thing I can basically skip it by switching to the Dark World version with the Music Box and just walking down to the end then switching back.
This area connects to the Music Note path and then to Heavy Metal world. I found the Music Note path before, but instead of going forward, I went up and got the event where I got stabbed by Ginmokusei.
>>
The reward at the end of the Music Mixer path is DE i CIDE's version of the Bike effect, the Chariot. It doesn't just make you faster, you can hit the effect button to bring up a menu to choose your speed from three different speed levels. The highest level is RIDICULOUSLY fast, like almost Shinsoku Kaibutsu fast. A shame I didn't get this earlier, really could have used it the entire rest of the game. Oh well, the built-in fast forward button is a good enough substitute.
>>
You can use the Music Box to switch to the Dark World version of Music Mixer path, then switch back to the light version in the open area here to access an area that can't be accessed otherwise as it's blocked off by the Teleporter at the entrance. There appears to be music notes arranged in the shape of text here. I'll post a series of screenshots I took of them if anyone can find out what it says.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
I think this is the last major world I haven't explored, the dark version of the Art Gallery. Instead of regular knight statues, now it's eviler-looking black knight statues and the "eyes" of the gallery now drip more blood. But all in all, not as much of a change as you might expect.
>>
It sure would have been nice if I had this EARLIER! Stupid fucking cat.
The lock shade here is blocking a path to a Dark/Light portal. I don't know how I missed that the last time I went through here.
>>
The doorway to the Snow area doesn't exist in the dark version of the Art Gallery, so I just used the Music Box to enter through the Light version then switch. Nothing here seemingly, except an entrance to the Park where the tiny hole for the Micro effect is in the Light version.
>>
I encounter a shade of Ginmokusei. I expect to be stabbed again... except he just gives me an effect that basically makes me into a palette swap of him complete with outfit and a unique "effect switch" FX.
With this, I've seemingly combed most or all of Inahoozuki's Dream World. Except I was still missing one Lock Shade girl. I didn't even know where to begin looking, so on a whim I went to Moon World... and there she was, behind the Telescope transporter. To get to her, you must use the Music Box in the Dark World as close to the Telescope as possible; this will put you behind the Telescope in the Outer Space Light world where you can then zap her. So yes, you NEED the Music Box effect, it's not just QOL. Good thing the game basically just hands it to you after a certain point.
And now that all of the locks have been broken the final door in the Dark Nexus is open. Shall we stare into the abyss now, knowing that it may just stare back?
>>
It's an empty version of Inahoozuki's room, with a knife conspicuously stuck in the ground.
...Any guesses how this is gonna go? I've already got one.
>>
>>2734131
an hero?
>>
>>2734225
Well, nope. I'll tell you what happens. She loses all her effects and gets a unique effect. She equips a knife and can stab NPCs with it. She moves at twice her normal speed. She can switch between the Light and Dark worlds at will. She kills Chasers on contact. It's a lot like Sabitsuki becoming Rust, except this one is reversible by interacting with the knife in Inahoozuki's Dark Dream Room again. Getting this effect unlocks an ending which happens when you leave Inahoozuki's room through the front door in the real world.
>>
Funnily enough, if you reverse it by interacting with the knife again, it gives you back ALL of the effects, including the ones you may not have gotten. I was missing Kitsune and Peeled Skin myself.
Also, she has an absolutely derptastic-looking face when she stabs someone.
>>
As for that ending mentioned, well...
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
And that was Ending 2. Ending 1 is apparently the typical Yume Nikki ending; get all the effects, jump off the balcony, join the 41%. There is, however, a third ending; the special kinfe effect give you the power to destroy the Light/Dark portals throughout the dream world and apparently destroying them all gets you another ending.
Also, after getting this ending (Ending 2), my savefile seems to have become unusable because my ability to open the menu has been permanently disabled for some reason, probably a glitch. Good thing, then, that I had the foresight to make multiple files including one right before I went into the Dark Dream Room. So just a heads up there. It's also entirely possible this was fixed in the later versions.

This is where you get the Kitsune effect. It lets you move faster and gives you cute kemono features.
I have no idea how I missed this, especially when it's so obvious.
>>2734274
Exactly what it looks like. Inahoozuki went on a murder spree in the apartment complex, got beat up and injured when her victims fought back, and by the time she went to the balcony she was on death's door, saw Ginmokusei and tried to go for him too only to collapse before she could reach him. He then does her the favor of tossing her corpse out like yesterday's trash.
>>
And this is where you get the Skin Removal effect.
I saw this NPC several times going through here but never thought much of it because I for some reason registered it as a stray zombie from the Bloody Handprint world since the entrance is nearby. The effect itself is just cosmetic.

I've got some bad news. It seems I cannot reach Ending 3 on my version of DE i CIDE. Either due to a glitch or some poorly thought out flagging/sequencing, I cannot break the portal jewel in the Dark World version of the Church without trapping myself and getting softlocked as that portal is the only way out. The entrance to the room disappears when you enter and the church is also one of the few areas where you cannot switch between light and dark versions using the Music Box or special Knife effect. So breaking this portal/jewel traps you with no way out, and since breaking all of them then returning to the (Dark) Nexus is what's required for ending 3, said ending is effectively unachievable for me.
>>

Wish more nikkers knew about this thread, but then again /vm/ would be the last place you'd go looking for Yume Nikki.

Speaking of, today we have new 2kki content! It includes... oh...

This is why I value single-creator works like .flow with a coherent, realized vision over the open source grab bag that is 2kki. I know for at least SOME people, the schizophrenic everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach is the main appeal, but Yume Nikki felt like a true fever dream versus "oops Lois I stepped into some American freshman's novice web page project". If this were my dream, I'd pinch myself too.

In a way it's both this and the regular new content rather than the cohesive experience at this point. Choosing a random path and stumbling upon cool worlds you've never seen before is a comfy way to play it, it's just that it's too polluted nowadays and you end up finding these bad maps a lot more often, a lot of authors are also completely isolated from each other these days, so at least it makes avoiding the bad maps easier.
You can't beat the cohesive experiences obviously, but everyone sorta agrees 2kki is kind of its own thing at this point, which is why it also lends itself better to multiplayer.

Actually, I just remembered that I could have pinched myself awake. Fuck. Well, now I know I CAN get this ending, so I'm going to give it a go again.

qxy and moriwo still update semi regularly (we recently got a bunch of qxy maps), and there's been some updates from some other decent westerners.
It does feel like most of the good japs have already moved on from the game though.
>>
I wish qyx continued the rainy apartments route, or at least gave it a more dignified ending. The constructions signs in the elevator have been taunting me for almost 4 years now...

You could say one of the new qxy maps is a sort of sequel to Rainy Apartments what with Sai No Kawara being purgatory for children (to atone for dying early) in Japanese folklore, the map is connected to Field of Cosmos which might imply a continuation of the Shimako subplot (if you care about that part of his maps).
It has cool music too:
https://youtu.be/nD4iO-4GCZ8
It does seem like qxy is planning to add more maps to the VC route, since there's a new room in the Arcade whose sole purpose is just being new connection bait (another construction barrier and an elevator).

>>2758241
wataru's made a few small updates these past few years (added some rooms too) but no indication he may make new maps sadly, maybe he'll return someday, who knows.

I can't believe qxy made me care so much about a character through what are basically cameos and very small visual storytelling. But man it would suck if she was actually dead, I already had my fill of subplots about characters dying with Yumebako's maps.

Also, to be fair, Rainy Apartments doesn't leave much room for doubt, you can see what most presume to be Shimako's corpse at the bottom of the stairs, as well as a stool where she most likely jumped off from on a higher floor. She even "reacts" to the telephone effect like she did in other worlds.
>>
>>2763035
Oh I know, but the fact she still reacted+the hospital isolated area in the Wooded Lakeside map made me think there was a chance for her to recover. But I guess that was me being too optimistic considering the Pure White Lands scene right after, and now the Sai no Kawara stuff suggests that she ultimately died in that hospital.

Moral of the story don't work as a maid in the Virtual City, that shit will make you suicidal.

New 2kki maps from new authors, one from pretty good Vietnamese dude, and a bunch of others from a programmer artist who's just seething in the discord (I lurk) kek, though they're actually average looking.
https://youtu.be/5vbejZ33b2w
I'm surprised nobody from Uboa or here ever made or collaborated on a 2kki map (that I know of), considering some anons here made some pretty decent maps for 4kki, and they seemingly allow anyone to add their stuff to 2kki nowadays.

On a more meta note, how do you guys feel about this thread? I know having YNO in the OP isn't optimal but I think it's been pretty comfy so far, and the board's slow enough to let us stay dead for multiple days. I don't see anywhere else we could have a thread like this, sadly. Too bad some retards are now using this thread's existence to shitpost. Fun (sad) fact, this place is technically faster than Ubuu, we're really just fossils nowadays huh.

>I'm surprised nobody from Uboa or here ever made or collaborated on a 2kki map
Luok posted work in progress stuff for his current maps in 2kki a long ass time ago before actually implementing 'em iirc
>Fun (sad) fact, this place is technically faster than Ubuu, we're really just fossils nowadays huh.
Eh they kind of brought that upon themselves after decades of shitty moderation and lack of direction from trannysatsu, and that aside the even sadder reality is that people overall prefer the retarded discords over imageboards these days

Cool, I seemingly stumbled upon his worlds on previous trips. Also I think I found the post you're talking about but I think it was just the one and he got scared away right after by some autist. I don't think he was a regular. He's also a bit of a celeb on his twitter from what I saw.

>sadder reality is that people overall prefer the retarded discords over imageboards
Yeah, I wish most of the internet (and discord by extension) wasn't so sanitized and that ego wasn't such a central point of the modern experience, the main reason I stick to chans is that anonymity is usually the death of said ego, it's much less exhausting this way.
I know back in the day some fangames got made/shared on Uboa but the culture was a lot different back then. I'd say old Ubuu was a weird mix of both tumblr and 4chan adjacent users, and ever since all-out war got declared you can see how a lot of people and creative types started moving out and consolidating in other social media platforms. Now most of modern Uboa seems to be 4chan adjacent posters, and well, there's very few of us remaining who still care about this neat little game and its fangames these days, and we only grow ever more pessimistic and cynical as time goes on.

>He's also a bit of a celeb on his twitter from what I saw.
I'm under the impression he's gotten a bit over his head these past few years from all the wank he got from the fanbase once he became a 2kki dev despite some of his worlds being overly derivative of already existing 2kki worlds but there's no denying he falls under the high effort camp of the westerners.
My favorite overseas dev is Kong who also posted his work in progress worlds back in the day when 2kkicord wasnt a thing and most of the wiki talk was done in the actual fandom wiki forum.
>I know back in the day some fangames got made/shared on Uboa but the culture was a lot different back then
Yeah, a lot if not all of the classic western fangame devs like Isasapiens were pretty active there and last I checked she was still active kek Broken Bottles, Fleshchild, Someday, the devs of all those made threads in ubuu where they shared progress and updates and took feedback.
>Now most of modern Uboa seems to be 4chan adjacent posters
I'd say it's more discord adjacent plus a few other memechan tourists than it's 4chan in this day and age which is bad but in all honesty 4chinks isnt doing too hot these days either so its a pick your own poison matter.

Yeah, I should've said "imageboard" adjacent, by which I mean people with usually thicker skin who don't get offended every 5 minutes and also enjoy anonymity with all that it entails. Also, from what I've heard, the discord users have sort of become their own clique and barely use the chan if at all, seen it happen before sadly. I do visit some alt chans from time to time but most of them are so dead these days that I just find myself always coming back here for the increased activity, even if this place is only basically allowed to exist for the sake of being a honeypot.
Imageboard users are kind of a dying breed, but it also feels like there's less activity across the internet in general. Again, wish more nikkers knew about this thread but we can't just go and scream about it on a megaphone either. Fun fact we get indexed by google as the first result when you search "Yume Nikki 4chan".

More "on topic" and somewhat related to >>2733523 I found this neat track
https://youtu.be/Udz-Sdq5wy0
and started wondering what a Yumelike with pure vaporwave music would be like (the genre has always been dreamlike IMO) then I went and searched for something like it, and found this neat little 8 year old game:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/757480/Broken_Reality/
It's technically just vaporwave/webcore, but in a way it does check most of the boxes for what a Yumelike should be (even Yume Nikki could be considered webcore now, it's a nostalgic game these days) with some LSDDE touches as well.
Also, as it just so happens, they released a sequel to this game literally 3 days ago, so that's kind of a crazy coincidence, looks very good too:

assuming this is not a shitpost, YNO lets you create a "party" and you can set the game to private afterwards, it's what the japs do to play with each other and filter out the gaijin.
Otherwise, YNO is forkable and is relatively easy to run, the issue is getting it hosted, and the japs will throw a tantrum at you for hosting their games without permission. See the last /vm/ YN thread from many years ago where a certain monoefag was posting.

Multiplayer YN with the current features it supports is functionally just a chatroom game, similar to what games like Worlds/Habbo/Gikopoipoi were (most similar to Worlds but 2D imo). The only real features you could add would be instruments and character customization of sorts (like what masks became). I know they were trying some weird features with ColUnc but seemingly nobody really used them.
The more traditional games don't really fit well with the multiplayer/chatroom formula though since you're really just exploring and searching for the secrets, and the experience is much more personal and cohesive. Finding other players just becomes a distraction and sometimes gets awkward, and the global chat is just annoying most of the time.
2kki became much less about the underlying story and secrets/effects and more about the maps (rooms) themselves so it fits a lot more with multiplayer (to its own detriment?), ColUnc just copied this formula and it was decent to a degree before the meltdown. I'd say the games are fun when played with a fren if any where you both get equally lost but other than that most of the current community surrounding these games feels annoying to deal with.

Some anon on that /v/ thread posted this webm of an Uro skin for SRB2K that they couldn't find. Dunno if they're here but I kinda went down a rabbit hole out of curiosity, it had been so long since I last played the game that I had no idea that they basically made a completely new version (Ring Racers), but I did find the skin as well as a bunch of other Yume Nikki stuff for SRB2K if anyone cares:
>Urotsuki skin (along with a bunch of other random skins)
https://mb.srb2.org/addons/macs-pack-o-crap.5063/
>Madotsuki skin

>Checkered Tile Path Map (though it uses meme music from one of Gobou's videos and it's part of a larger pack)
https://mb.srb2.org/addons/fuckpak.5109/
These might already be on the /vm/ SRB2K server actually, I used their fork of the game to play these as well.

Speaking of, here are Uro and Mado (part of a pacl) for Ring Racers respectively.

Make it more like games like Journey or even the random wandering (unfortunately non-realtime) player ghosts you see out in the world where meeting and hooking up with random players is unpredictable.
Obviously if you add them as friends you should be able to group up whenever, but for random players the game should just randomly pick two or more people to encounter each other.
