How is the legal aspect of these mods from actual real tabletop games? Should I be worried that at any moment the mod is going to be put down and I won't be able to play it because of some lawyer?
>>2751611The workshop uploads do get taken down by a select few stick-up-ass type publishers, most recently GW and a lot of wh40k mods, but even then nobody can stop you from saving and sharing the .json file, and all the associated steam cloud uploads of deleted mods were preserved, or deleted by the users/uploaders in a fit of autism. There has been no legal case, mostly because Valve would hate to go to court over the Steam Workshop issue. So, save backups of everything you have and want to play, because they might go poof and be inaccessible on workshop, and you probably don't want to wade thru d*scord channels and get banned for posting a picture of a grid.
>>2751611The important thing to note is that each mod is basically just a collection of links. When you open the mod, that's when it downloads all the assets (textures, models) from the links associated with each game piece. A mod only really goes down if those links get hit as well. If you want to be resilient against such things, the solution is to make sure Mod Caching is turned on. This'll keep the files saved and downloaded on your disk, and it'll check for that first when it sees the corresponding link trying to be downloaded. You'll just need to worry about other people joining your games that don't have the object cached, but the solution to this is pretty simple: if you hit Upload All Loaded Files, it'll take each object and upload its cached assets to the Steam Cloud before then changing its asset link to that new address, so someone joining will then be able to download that.
