>>2740300Because it tried to appeal to nostalgia but it didn't appeal to what most people like about nostalgic aesthetics. The design of the site just looked like what old Steam looked like. The site owner should've made it a 2000s cyber design or frutiger aero, stuff that even zoomers like so the site would appeal to a wider audience. Should've also made it more like a forum but keep the fact that you don't need to make an account to communicate on the site.
The point of it was to find people to play old games that either don't have lobbies or nobody plays anymore.Reddit quickly discovered it, and it was quickly dominated by stuff that you can find everywhere else and those old classics got drowned out by modern popular shit.It went against its own ethos very quickly.

Also a lot of the sessions people would make looking to see if there's interest in them hosting a particular game and then when they get people, can't commit and it never happens

The main thing that caused me to stop using it is that it's just hard to get into the habit of using a website, especially in this modern era where you only really need 3 consistent websites(IE: 4chan, Google and YouTube.) I personally use RSS feeds on the few websites that support them to form this habit, but GameDate doesn't have RSS feeds. Unfortunately, RSS feeds are also rather rare in the modern era, and I doubt that GameDate having RSS feeds would fix this issue for the majority of people because most people don't even have an RSS reader on their computer or phone.I will also add, >>2741113 and >>2747456 DO sort of have a point. The default aesthetics are not pleasant to look at, and though I find it charming, I'm sure this turns some off. Most people aren't going to use the theming system built in unless you force it. GameDate has two great themes that'd work fine already; Legacy and Dark Blue are really nice on the eyes, even if they are just Win32 and 2010s Steam. One of these two should be the default, and not Green.

Once the novelty wears off, it's no surprise most interest goes with it.2) It was primarily made for 4chan niggas, and 4chan niggas are the flakiest, whiniest niggas on the planet. As someone who has hosted for threads here, you quickly get to become aware that only a select number of anons are hosting ALL of the games and making ALL of the threads where shit happens in. A sinister gay cabal of actually playing video games. Most other people are cattle that only waddle towards what's popular.
