City Of Heroes is a 2004 superhero-themed MMO well known for its in-depth powers and character customization.>DownloadWe're playing on the Thunderspy private server.https://thunderspy.net/>SupergroupWe have a villain supergroup called MMODvengers and a hero supergroup called Just Us League.Ask in the thread for an invite.>Previous City of Heroes thread:>>2737419
Posting the last few pics that couldn't fit in the previous thread.
AHHHHHH MOTHERLAND
Whew! Hell of a photoshoot to cap-off our time moonlighting as the motliest batch of superheroes around (or supervillains depending on which weeks you preferred to play).Across all locales we visited in both Paragon City on Blueside, and our short stint back to our well-decorated supervillain base on Redside, I ended up taking a total of 915 photos, curated further down to just ("just") /33/ fit for publication to the thread. A few alt-takes included in that count, granted, but still a respectable amount of variety on display. As is always the case with these batch-uploads, they'll largely be posted sans any flavor text, barring a chronology marker attached to each post. Surely (You) know the drill by now. We've quite a lot to get through, so for one final round, lettuce begin.[1/33]

This one was intended to be posted before Torchlight Vigil - 1).Thank (You) all for attending, and for giving this highly unique title a shot. As one of only three entries to score a coveted +1 week time extension from the MMODventure so far, there's no denying this game was - and in some ways still is - something special to cherish.Best of luck in Aion to those departing for it! Think I'll stay behind for a bit longer, myself; there's just so much left to see with this one.Although odds are fairly high that soloing through The Grindâ„¢ after you 'lot have moved on simply won't hit the same, so perhaps I'll be slinking over to Aion or wherever-else before long. >>2794599Guessing they're trying to stoke some long-dead console war shitstirring, given this game's history. For a lot of casual private server goers (not just for CoX but in general), population size is the only thing that matters, even when the server in question isn't very good. Whichever server happens to be first to market tends to vacuum-up most, if not all, of the private server sector for that specific title.Creates a highly frustrating self-fulfilling prophesy wherein newer, often more interesting private servers for a game seldom ever get any real attention, while older, already-established ones (which often rest on their laurels and refuse to continue refining the game they've effectively inherited) see further and further growth.By all accounts besides player count, Thunderspy offers a much better experience overall compared to something like Homecoming. But most longtime vets of this game are already too invested in Homecoming to start over on another server, and good luck convincing someone who's never played CoX before to try out a server with only ~20-30 people on it.I'm quite glad we landed on Thunderspy for our three-week stay all the same, and continue to sign-in even after the MMOD has moved on, at least for a bit longer.
>>2794890>By all accounts besides player count, Thunderspy offers a much better experience overall compared to something like HomecomingThat is incorrect, but all you know about homecoming is what the Thrunderchuds tell you.

>>2815825well it's based off of the secret invite-only server they ran for about 6.5 years after the game closed, so I imagine in that time period they didn't really care about doing content they've already done for what was effectively twice the lifespan of the game, and it was more just a social hangout app with fun paper dolls. HC kind of reflects that same philosophy - make a character specifically to AFK farm shit in AE, level your characters the same way, then sit in atlas and chat with your Sekrit Klub Buddies.
>>2822224Not like Thunderspy is that different. It's half-gameplay, half-Sekrit Klub.

What's the point of this shit>Open the discord to see how people are reacting>Some nitro booster on the discord made a complaint about it>Apparently this shit is even more annoying for melee classes because now they have to go chase down random enemies>Dev response: we'll disable it for tanks, now fuck off. This is what happens when people who have never worked on a game start put their hand into game design.
>>2834813they've always had the run away behavior, this new behavior makes ranged enemies kite away while still attacking
>>2834813Idk they're obsessed with doing things nobody asked for and it's certainly not going to actually grow their server by making their game filled with annoyances.
>>2822272Even if 90% of the homecoming population really was just fire farming/afk under atlas, the remaining 10 percent would still be orders of magnitude more people forming groups and playing the game than existing on tspy. Excelsior feels more populated than Freedom did.
>>2835141making combat more reactive and enemies (mildly) more intelligent IS an interesting idea, it's just poorly implemented right now.

No idea how this would affect gameplay but it would be REALISTIC if healing generated aggro/enemies kited you!Sorry for repeating myself but>This is what happens when people who have never worked on a game start put their hand into game design
My two cents of anecdotal evidence after three years on Homecoming. The population has dropped painfully in the past two years, there was an increase with the "We're official!" post - which HC still has not shown any proof of, outside of their own forum post saying "Trust us bro." From a day to day players perspective, most people logged in just idle in bases all day because you can not AFK timeout, either ERPing or swapping between discord channels or just talking in General/LFG/Help. Pub team recruiting has slowed to a crawl, the busiest LFG seems to get is when people advertise a fire arm and AE is nothing more than farmers and ERPers who do not have one of the public base codes or who want to use local for cybersex. Homecoming also keeps butchering power sets for some unknown reason with their "balance" changes. Thunderspy is not perfect, but it and Rebirth feel so much better to play as an actual game. The HC community - especially on Everlasting, is a bunch of gooners, bitter old people who no life the game, fashionista types, name collectors and people who just want to talk about how cool they were 10+ years ago when it was a live game.
>>2840672>bunch of gooners, bitter old people who no life the game, fashionista types, name collectors and people who just want to talk about how cool they were 10+ years ago when it was a live gamethose are the only groups of people who have interest in CoH nowadays, thoughso which one are you?

>>2839757I'm not reading that word salad. Sorry you lost
>>2842613This is some schizo shit you invented, this doesn't happen lmao.
>>2850637No its not. Type /getglobalname on Everlasting and the majority of names will be claimed by the same 3 people over and over and over and if you're unlucky enough to see them on it, its some level 1 that they quickly log on to snap a pic of then log off.I don't even have to supply proof because its someone literally anyone can do themselves by typing /getglobalname.
>>2850637I wish it was some schizo theory, but I had people begging me for names, a few going straight to threats and attempts at coercion when I said no. Did not matter if it was a level 1 placeholder or a Vet level 60, some people think they are entitled to names they had back on the live server or just want. Also, what >>2850669said. The greater majority of the remaining population of Everlasting have multiple accounts and are constantly collecting names to level to 6+ and shelve. It was such an issue that Homecoming did the name release a few years back.
>>2850669>>2850683NTA, but I can believe it.On certain popular KMMOs (Maplestory, Lost Ark, etc), hording desirable names is a known phenomenon, to the point where outright selling those names to wanting buyers through RMT Discord channels is very much a thing. Want to be THE Kirito, or have a super basic but identifiable name like "Cat" or "Lady" or "Flower"? You're gonna have to pay some random guy in Singapore a couple hundred bucks through CashApp/Zelle/Whatever for the privilege. Can't imagine the same sort of under-the-table name selling economy existing for CoH private servers, necessarily, but name hording is definitely a known quantity in the wider MMO space.
>>2850683Also most of them claiming its a name they had on live are liars as some attempt to guilt trip. Someone claimed that to me on in an attempt to get a name from a character I play a lot. The issue was, that I had that name on live too.
>>2850683I play on excelsior because it has the most players, I claimed a bunch of names during the free-up they did and I've never had a single person whisper me about them like that. Ironically I couldn't get the name of my live character but I did get the name I wanted to get way back then for him. But also I think complaining about names is whatever, I could honestly take it or leave it, just be more creative with your names. Don't be angry you can't have something unoriginal like "Pyro" for your fire character.
>>2852381Excelsior is the "normal" players. Everlasting is the mentally unwell roleplayers, gooners, min/max sweats and everyone in-between. Everlasting General and a lot of local will break down to people talking about their antidepressants, diabeetus medications, bowel movements and other unhinged stuff, between autofellating themselves and the "community" for being the best community ever! It was hilarious during the 2024 US election to see people freaking out in LFG/Gen/Help as votes came in and to see some of the most racially charged and frankly vile things said when the minorities they love and make characters of, did not vote Democrat. Lmao. Like I said, 99% of Everlasting in the past years is just mentally unwell people who turned Homecoming into their Real Life, and are so deep in the game sauce that they are sustained by delusions of grandeur and their own self-importance in a dying community for a dead game.
>>2852381Thats cause Excelsior is fairly normal. Everlasting is another breed when it comes to names. Has been since the Virtue days. https://forums.homecomingservers.com/topic/1205-drop-a-name-pick-up-a-name/Also I don't think you're grasping the issue because you're thinking its just that we can't find the one name we want. Its not that all the really generic names are taken, its that every form of it will be taken. Its not as simple as "Oh Pyro is taken, I'll try Pyro man" its that the same person will have:>Pyro>Pyro Man>Pyro Woman>Pyro Person>Fire Man>Flame Man>Torch Man>Torch>Torch Ligher>Torchlighter>Pyroman>Pyro-Man>Flame-Man>Flame-Woman>Firey>Burning Man>Burn>Burner>Burner Manetc. typing in /getglobalname and its the same person over and over and over
>>2852546Yeah, all those names suck. Are you fucking Stan Lee or something?
>>2857446I'm just using your example as a further example.
>>2839757Nearly all MMOs have heal aggro, I don't get it.
>>2858144NTA, but as someone who's seen entire rooms of mobs make a beeline straight to anyone running Empathy or Nature Affinity due to cascading social aggro, it's moreso a matter of not being able to easily rip hate from groups of enemies if you aren't playing Tanker/Brute.Other melee archetypes can spec into Provoke for an AoE taunt, but it barely lasts any time before wearing off (even with taunt enhancements), and has an annoyingly long cooldown. Tanker/Brute have shorter cooldowns on their taunts, yet taunts in general also have a weirdly small radius to them as well, making rooms where mobs are spread out a real chore to manage. Further leads to the likelihood of your healer suddenly having like 15 dudes on them out of nowhere, depending on your notoriety settings. The "solution" here is to just throw copious amounts of CC and -Accuracy/-Damage debuffs around, but you don't always have that at your disposal depending on your party comp. Especially not on Thunderspy, since if you aren't playing during NA primetime, you won't be grouping up with anyone due to EU hours being nearly dead, and SEA/AUS hours being actually dead.Queue has a lot of interesting ideas which don't really mesh well with the kind of game CoX is at its core.Enemies being able to kite you when not actively Taunted sounds like it could be novel. Except this is a game where nearly all attacks have stupidly long animation lock, meaning life as a melee class is complete hell unless you spec into Provoke as a band-aid fix. GOAL-oriented A.I. could lead to more interesting encounters. Yet that occasionally leads to random enemies running off to the farthest corners of the map in an attempt to "find cover", despite them not having any tools to really make use of that behavior any further. Etc, etc.Can admire the ambition, but the execution needs some real work.
>>2858144You still can't just slip heal aggro on a game that didn't have it and expect it to just work.
Fuck it, Squad doesn't wanna work tonight so I'll give it a shot. Do I pick Freedom or Rogue?

Rage now makes your powers cost more but several powers gain a cleave effect called SMASH. Super Strength brute is gonna be ungodly strong - they are pushing a fan favorite power on purpose. Some new customization options- Wings that only appear during flight mode , eye beams for several energy blast powers, drudge faces Major Content Drops - NEW WING OF LABRYNTH OF FOGnew Dota style pvp - gives XP - designed by the labrynth of fog Dev. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OJZvXJNQN8&list=PLIOP1yWctCPAMLx4RnmVC3h5V-kekO5x6&index=2New version of the citidel task force New story arc in kallisti wharf ( homecoming story arcs are really god damn good I can never get people to play this shit. I can get people to play +7 difficulty with no level boosts every time even though its absolutely sadomasocistic with 5% damage dealt and 95% more damage tanken but i can never get people to play the fucking 12 custom taskforces wtf community retards) Labrynth of Fog is the best thing this game has ever had by a massive gap. I am still shocked the HC devs made something this godly, especially the derpy comic book dude who hangs out in pocket D turning into a KamiDev

I like to take over teams and kidnap people with a team teleporter to take them into noneuclidian space and get them to consume the nightmare seed. >>2863861No literally nobody cares. /mmod/ moved on like 1 months ago they're on Rusty Heart now. They're not gonna play it, they're gonna play most likely Adventure Quest next
I think the funny thing about this is that in 2023, Thunderspy's host Brain lost his shit and said the staff was ignoring player complaints and just doing whatever they wanted while ignoring the players. His complaints got buried because he said all that in the middle of what was otherwise a spergout, but it was all true.
Homecoming "devs" are on record for peeping into tell/team based messages and circulating ERP logs and personal information to each other and their friends. The City of Heroes private server community is full of retards.
>>2865112yeah there was a huge ERPer purge maybe 6 months after the canon character purge. For awhile I thought that HC was a scam to collect donation money - but now they are doing new content so I no longer beleive that. I was pissed when they added travel suppression to PvE but in hindsight they were rightneed to complete more than 1 4star taskforce. Fucking roomwide damage makes it very harsh on blaster. Its wild to see mechanics from ff14 in this game
