A lot of people don't want to put the effort into making their own server, when the truth is that's the best course of action if you want something to be actually faithful to "Era" the problem is, that data is so lost to time, that nobody knows it except probably a handful of Japanese players. If you really want Era accuracy, you need to dig into the XI archives on the JP side of things, not the NA/EU side.

Could scale down the post 75 cap content but it would be a massive undertaking. Most of the stuff is balanced around having your own pocket healer for everything so apart from just changing the stats of the mobs, you would need to test all their moves/tp gain/etc thoroughly.Let's just start with abyssea. Abyssea mechanics would need to be entirely reworked. You would either need to nerf the xp the mobs give, or just scrap atmas entirely. The latter is probably for the best otherwise you kill exp/merit parties outside of abyssea. Then you have the chests to balance. All of the item chests would probably need to have nothing but pop items and KIs in them. Time chests would stay, but now that you're not steam rolling 10 mobs in 2 minutes, you would have to re-evaluate the time limit or stone accumulation rate. That just scratches the basic functions of the zone. Now you have to rework all the NM fights. Nobody is going to want to bring their LS to farm cards/coins/jewels for one guy if the NMs are to be made challenging. A 10 minute (literally any NM) fight, just for a chance at dropping one item of the 6-10? you need for 1 piece of AF is more time than the vast majority of the player base is willing to give. The easiest option here I guess would be to either up the drop rates, or lower the amount needed for the AF upgrades.... Emp weapons I guess can stay the slog they are. I would imagine killing cerberus ~50 times is enough of a time sink to compare to a relic. Have to make sure you get the balance on these right, right from the beginning otherwise having to re-balance them when some people are mid way through is going to piss everyone off.And that's just one of the dozens of end game content added post 75 cap. The private server community does not have the manpower to pull this off.
If I wasn't interested in 75 cap then I would just play retail or another modern MMO. I have zero interest in some random private server andy's custom bullshit he decided to shove into FFXI with zero game dev experience or knowledge on how to properly balance.

Ignoring the drama, a server like Phoenix is unlikely to go anywhere.In all pserver scenes I've been in, era accurate servers never succeed and only the era+ or custom servers maintain players.
