They had a switch release not too long ago and they are about to drop a Virtual Novel that will serve as the prequel to the game. Should I pick this up? I played this long ago when I was a kid but got cockblocked by the paywall early into the game, is it still there that early? If I pay $5 for a membership what would I be in for?

Early worlds are still more kid friendly from back when the initial demographic was for kids and their parents to play and disney collabs but similar to the player base aging up over the years like roblox, the combat and writing have been aged up over time becoming a much more complicated in the end game. Its split into multiple story arcs where the gameplay changes a bit every few worlds. Id say give it a go see if its for you for the first month, you'll never run out of content in that time. Speed running to max level takes for a solo new player probably takes a few hundred hours if you don't know all the fights. and yes the paywall hasnt moved sadly even with the game having a dozen plus expansions and raids added

>>2800718There are some side world zones with harder and longer dungeons, wizard city sewers and aquilia. Pvp still is somewhat active and here are weekly events like beastmoon where you play as different mobs from the worlds. Unless your into social aspects or housing in mmos the game play loop is mostly the same to the end even in raids and challenge mode dungeons. There is crafting, farming, fishing, pet breeding, rare side bosses but those are all pretty much means to an end of gearing up for combat. Over all the gameplay loop is going to remain pretty linear more like a co-op final fantasy then a mmo like new world or throne and liberty with large scale wars and world bosses, and the like.
>>2797731It's the kind of game you play when you wanna turn off your brain and chill in a nostalgic virtual world. Writing is surprisingly good in the later worlds if you're into game lore. The gameplay gets kinda repetitive, for most battles in the game you're gonna use the same 2 spells. There's also lots of side systems like fishing, crafting and house decorating but some of them got abandoned years ago.

>>2812294sorry late response, the main one you will get is scarecrow but that is at level 48-50, there are others you can grab like ship of fools and deer knight later. For now try to hatch a pet called "Gloomy Eye" in the pet pavilion it gives a spell called "Colossafrog" a death version of humungo frog when the pet levels to adult. for easy pet leveling you regain your energy everytime you level so in between questing you can go back and feed the pet and pets gain xp when equipped when a quest is completed.

In w101, there's a couple ways to unlock lore spells:>Buy the gacha pack that drops the spell, and hope you get the 1/200 chance of unlocking the spell>Crafting the spell, although you need to be a certain crafting rank and you need to have the reagents to craft the spell, and most of the time the reagents are not easy to obtain, ship of fools cant be crafted, but deer knight can.>Events like the portal of peril event that is hands-down the best way to acquire a ton of spellements without having to shell money. but this event only ever happens during the last week of every month.If you do not want to go this route, then you'll need to wait until you're level 48 to unlock scarecrow.

But I doubt very much the current new gens are interested in this. and MMOs are for a vast majority a shadow of their former selves.So who is playing that game?
