Are /we/ playing Torn Banner's latest game, which is completely unrelated to the first beloved mod (featuring Patrick Bateman and that fat guy from The Big Lebowski) ?
It's an extraction shooter with permadeath on your character now . It released in EA in a disastrous state but after trying it for the free weekend in May I think it does something interesting with its permadeath. Real moments of tension but also cooperation with teammates created by this. Melee combat and the pressure of zombie spawns while doing objectives is also quite similar. The rest is too different.

By default it's not a game I would recommend unless the person is looking for something unique in coop games and doesn't mind slower paced and tactical zombie game.
>>
I like it a lot but the combat system blows, game can run like piss in some areas, can't mute annoying players who mic-spam and think they're funny, and it kinda sucks how it doesn't matter how many zombies you kill you are not rewarded for it at all.

Hopefully they keep working on it.
>>
>>2834152
i sweated a ton on chivalry and its only 20 dollar so im giving it a shot. its downloading now.
>>
>>2839310
They nerfed melee combat for this 1.0 release (removed teddy bear and made 3 star weapons impossible to purchase), now if you don't find a good melee weapon it's a hassle fighting any more than 2 zombies. They "buffed" bladed weapons stability damage but those still suck. On my loadout at the moment I don't even spawn with one because the first objectives can be done with some simple kiting power plant excluded (but it's easy to find one melee). On good weapons like claw hammer you can down zombies easily with one heavy -> two lights.
>>
So what's the meta?
>>
>>2844113
Boring answer: don't be retarded, share with the team, learn maps/objectives, when to pick fights and how to kite.
l33t speedrunner answer: spawn with baseball bat and spam heavies while jumping when you have to fight, rush ahead of everyone and vacuum all the loot, when you're at an objective you don't think you can do alone wait on a glitched vantage point to herd zombies and pretend that you're helping and not actually just picking the safest job to preserve your character (you're already sitting on 5 million credits but you need more).

Hope this helped!
>>
anyone figure out everything headblown expert (pistol headshot damage) does?
>>
>>2844210
I'd like to know if this makes some pistols break a one shot headshot on nightmare
Particularly the m9/m1911
>>
>>2844222
Check the top rated guide on steam. It has all the values and whether they're multiplicative or additive, so you can calculate the breakpoints yourself.
>>
>>2844205
What's with the baseball bat and jump heavies meme
>>
>>2844231
Bat heavy blow -> 50 headshot damage + 100 stability damage and reasonable stamina usage
Kick -> 0 dmg + 100 stability damage and hefty stamina usage
jumping does not consume extra stamina and keeps your momentum

if you are only taking care of one zombie spamming heavies with the bat is nothing but bonuses

so with headblown expert:
-the revolver and 1911 will one shot primes
-the m9 will one shot all zombies including primes when they are in a ragdoll state (kick them)
-if you have the damage on kick perk you will one shot headshot ragdolled non prime zombies with the 22
-headshotting a non prime zombie with m9 then smacking them twice with expert shove damage will apparently kill them

No, there's more special zombies, threat level is higher (zombie spawn rate), you take a bit more dmg, there's a bit less loot. That's pretty much it.

I'm hesistant to play this because I think the game kinda flopped and I don't know if Torn Banner are gonna pump and dump this. If SKG actually happened this wouldn't have been a concern. Crazy that this faggot Guillemot found time to give first class blowjobs to EU reps when his company is dying.

It got a roadmap, one million players across all platforms and the 1.0 release turned a hater like me into a fan. I played thirty minutes of the early access and thought it was terrible but it is much better now

>>2844113
Cleaver 2-shots while keeping them steady while actually makes it better than bat for chipping away at hordes + is 1-handed & doesn't need to be built for like tree trimmer. Run it with satchel and rescue beacon
>>
Had a game where some dude stayed on an objective that was getting swarmed. I said follow me there's some meds over there.
He stayed on the objective to die, I told him "what are you doing bro", he replied "the objective".
Do people not realize you can leave the obj area to regroup and come back ? Sometimes it's even better because you lure the zombies away and there's barely anyone when you get back.
>>
>>2856802
A tale as old as time. It's an experience problem, I think. They start getting overwhelmed on the objective and probably panic. So the panic combined with focusing on trying to stay alive overwrites the part of their brain that would reasonably tell them to GTFO and regroup, clear shit out, and then push back in to not die. Happened all the time in the KF games with people just holding the area until they died when the situation required a retreat ages prior.
>>
People are too retarded to play on normal right now. I just grind beginner for guaranteed exp rolls.

I have to wait for an e-celeb to make a popular discord so at least I can play with trannies with at least half the required IQ necessary to make ammo trades.

Also, they will introduce survivor retirement for benefits, so there is no point in risking a good build on nightmare, or even normal for that matter.
>>
>>2857727
I've got 3 characters at or near 50, predominantly playing Normal. I don't know if we're on different servers or something to create such different experiences, but my time in normal has been mostly fine, with a few odd rough patches here and there.

I haven't experienced this at all, granted I haven't tried nightmare yet. I've played two normal rounds and one hard so far, normal felt like tutorial mode and hard was still very, very easy. No-one died, I think I saw one person even go down in all of them.

Having 8 people in the lobby feels like way too fucking much. There's always one or two guys who run ahead and basically complete the mission by themselves anyway so the rest of us are superfluous, especially when they can just run circles around the harmless zombies so they don't even really need any protection from us.

It also means I can never find shit because it's either all been hoovered up already by someone else or I don't have time to look as I'm in full sprint just trying to catch up to the rest of the group who already zoomed off to the main objective in the first minute. Even if I found stuff to use, though, it wouldn't make much difference. I've been getting by just fine with any two handed melee weapon I can find, some bandages and maybe a single radio or grenade or something.

I don't get where the fun is supposed to be, I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm in EU so of course everyone is a mute autist bot that never says a word in text or voice. So far how I've been playing is basically finding one guy who seems to know what he's doing and following him around, but the game is so easy he doesn't even need my help really, so it's kind of a walking simulator where I occasionally help kick down a couple of zombies that are in our way and move on.
>>

ZOMBIES OVER HERE
>>
>>2859885
If you've played the first game it's pretty much the same state of mind, if you aren't looting or making space to complete an objective you're just zigzagging between zombies to get to the next place. When you have to clear an area you have to keep an eye on your surroundings, manage stamina and think of the route you're going to take.
For the release they made Normal way too easy and it's pretty much impossible to not extract with a full team. Hard is a tossup if you have begginers on the team or you have bad RNG on loot and objectives. Nightmare you have less speedrunners autists and when you do get them they almost single handedly ruin the lobby because they spawn tons of runners by never taking care of screechers.

It also depends a lot on the map you're playing. Power Plant and Hospital are the hardest, Lewiston and Broadway are piss easy.
>>
>>2859885
8 is a fine number really, when you get an entire lobby that knows what it's doing the game is easy even on hard. Yet when you get people with an intellectual disability the game becomes very fun because they become a liability to the team which results sometimes in intense moments.
>>
>>2859885
Mabye it's because I'm a newbie, but i feel like I get bogged down way more on normal and up just because of the number of zombies going up. Mabye I'm just not speeding through fast enough, but i feel if I slow down to loot at all I get some spawning around me.
>>
>>2861617
The game incentivizes being fast because threat level increases over time and spawns are infinite. Still there's a middle ground being a loot goblin and speedrunning. When you start out you'll feel every good player is speedrunning but they're just being efficient at looting and know the map.
>>
How do you chain charged attacks quickly? I saw some guy on youtube doing successive charged attacks like twice as fast as I can do it. And half the time, when I try to start another charged hit too quickly, a strong attack comes out despite me not releasing the button.
>>
>>2862184
Nevermind. I wasn't charging the next swing fast enough. Didn't realize you were supposed to start before the previous animation even finished
>>
>Former NMRiH dev
I absolutely fucking hated the early access release of this but 1.0 is fun. If you're like me and were disappointed by how different this was from the original game, give it another shot. They've expanded on the mechanical depth and the map selection is good. It feels more like the OG.
>>
>>2862444
I like the atmosphere, the first few missions gave me the dread I've been looking for. Slowly this won't feel like a horror game anymore though, only because they give you RPG perk mechanics that make your survivor damn near super human.

And with time, the "build-crafting" of this game will turn it into l4d. You guys just don't see it coming.

Headblown gives 20/30% headshot only damage
makes m9 2 shot primes or 1 shot a downed prime
makes m1911 and revolver 1 shot primes
you don't need headblown if you have foreman experted to one shot kicked non primes with a gruber

Headblowns only worth it if you want to make use of .45 because .357 is better used with a rochester due to mohawk and its no loss of penetration allowing you to dome 4 none primes with 1 shot and if theres a prime amongst them you can foreman kick it to kill it.
MP5's are usually common as shit, comes equipped with a free torch and hits all the same breakpoints as headblown m9.
Gruber pistol will still 2 shot regulars but 3 shot instead of 4 primes which is seriously whatever

Early evac is actually one of my favorite things to do now. Newbies always stay, they don't see the writing on the wall early. So it's like a movie watching people slowly fall apart.

As someone who played a lot of NMRIH 1, I don't quite get the hate this one gets. Yes, it's a different genre, yes Torn Banner decided to make it always online live service sloppa, but that wouldn't have happened if the original devs didn't just pump and dump the IP. If you sell it's because you want out, and you can't ask the person who just bought to continue your project on your terms (project that might I add felt very far away from the original gameplay vids that were out). NMRIH 1 will still be playable for a long time anyway, possibly longer than the second one.
No excuse to Torn Banner for releasing the game in that absolutely dogshit state though, now those 2024 EA reviews will stay as a black mark on the review score forever because majority of people won't bother looking how the game evolved, just getting back the rating to somewhat positive will be an uphill battle.

Is this an extraction shooter?
>>
>>2867707
No, it's a co-op game like L4D or Vermintide/Darktide in that you go in to each map with a series of objectives to complete (the combat and overall pacing differs drastically from those) and then leave the map when you finish.
>>
>>2867707
>>2867720
It's the same mechanics as Hunt except no PvP and you replace the bounty hunting with whatever you need to do on that map, so yes if Hunt is an extraction shooter then this game also is.
>>
>>2867729
>It's the same mechanics as Hunt
Not really. Hunt has one boss you go fight, grab an item off of, and fuck off. And last time I played it, you could technically play Hunt by ignoring the boss/objective and going around the outskirts of the map killing zombies and doing random shit, and you'd still get money and be able to leave. That's not NMRIH2. You cannot "extract" at any time to make a safe profit. If you leave early, you keep your character but make no progress. Incursion Red River is a purely PVE extraction shooter. NMRIH2 isn't. It's far closer to L4D or the -tides in core identity than it is extraction shooters. Don't let the fact that you can spend credits on improving your starting loadout mislead you.
>>
>>2867742
You invest something by going into a run (character and loadout) and risk losing it all or coming back with something a lot greater (XP and credits) by extracting at the end of your objective.
The fact that Hunt allows you to keep your loot if you extract early while this game only allows you to get a tiny amount of account XP is a detail that doesn't change the fact that the mechanics are almost 1:1.

Yes I vill die on this hill.
>>
>>2867785
And that's window dressing compared to the way the game's actually played. You're caught up on some of the most minor aspects of these games and overlooking the actually important parts. Enjoy your hill.

Athlete, Sturdy Body, Thick Skin and Field Medic by default.
Everything else depends on what kind of build you're running. For example, if you're running a melee build, you won't get much milleage from Scavenger unless you want to haul ammo for your party, so if you've got your desired melee perks already you could opt for, say, Stayin' Alive instead for when shit hits the fan.

Is the security checkpoint on the power plant map the hardest objective in the game? Every time I have to go there it's just an infinite horde of zombies piling out of that building, I can never even manage to get inside. Forget it if I'm alone, it's impossible. But even when I had it and another guy was with me, like 2 molotovs a radio and a grenade later there were still so fucking many in there that we just couldn't do it.
>>
>>2885119
I actually never got this objective on Power Plant yet and I have like 40 hrs of game time. Usually when it's like this you need 2 people minimum to kite a horde away by making a lot of noise and someone sneaking in. Barricades can also buy you a lot of time in those situations for the person sneaking in.
>>2882797
It's big but you get used to it quick. You just need to be faster on objectives, know how to deal with stacks of zombies, share supplies and keep your ammo for last obj/runners/screechers.
Some Nightmare maps can be a snooze fest if everyone is competent and you're lucky with loot.

The first game had survival? Holy shit. I don't think I ever played it
>>
Is this any good still? Contemplating on buying it but maybe you can convince me otherwise.

Hasn't changed since 1.0 released. What's the good/bad stuff keeping you on the fence?

Tl;dr: no mod support planned because [bullshit reasons] but we all know it's because they think this won't bring them any money short term

A shame. Custom maps with a server browser to opt in/out of servers running them could do wonders for longevity

i just learned unreal engine 5 modding it would be so easy to do basic model editing and replacement that everyone would enjoy akin to the first game

Next update will be next Tuesday supposedly, won't feature much besides more variation in Pottsville and Lewiston.
More attachments but they're so rare in the first place in Nightmare anyway...

Also behead all the retards asking for dailies, I don't need more live service slop in my life trying to become a second job and if they do implement dailies they'll nerf credit and merits 100%.
