Falling Lunchbox edition>What is Casualties: Unknown?Casualties: Unknown is a currently in-development game by Orsoniks which currently has a free demo out on Steam. Set in a surprisingly grimdark universe in spite of the cute and fluffy characters, the game revolves around time-limited (by default) cave exploration, and features a remarkably in-depth and autistic hyper-detailed health system.>How do I play multiplayer?github.com/BepInEx/BepInExhttps://github.com/Krokosha666/cas-unk-krokosha-multiplayer-coopBoth are required to play multiplayer, more mods can be found on the Nexus hub.>Where do I get the game?https://store.steampowered.com/app/4576510/Casualties_Unknown_Demo/>Anything else I should know when playing with /vm/?https://rentry.co/casualtiesunknovmThis guide and FAQ covers most things wouldn't fit in this OP.>What about servers? There's usually many public servers open, but currently the multiplayer mod isn't perfect and desync and lag WILL and CAN happen (items not syncing on clients, rubberbanding, etc). It's best practice to keep servers running on low ping, and to have other players pick up your desynced items if they're dropped to help force refresh them and make them usable for you again.Anon lobbies pop up fairly often. There's also a 24/7 dedicated server run by an anon:82.168.135.188:7790Password: rage>Can I run this on Linux? The game including mods runs natively on Proton, the only thing you have to worry about is the (former) keybinds .json being shelved in the Proton compatibility "drive" (folder system), instead of its normal directory.Last Layer: >>2866179https://arch.b4k.dev/vm/thread/2866179

>>2921028I spend all yesterday reading Whitecoats in one sit, and I have mixed feelings about it, though partially its because I hyped myself up too much wanting to read it yet delaying it for long time. I both liked and disliked Gregory and 033, both arrogant and petty, but which funny enough make them fit each other somewhat. I'd say I enjoyed reading if not for pair of issues I met with chapter 8 and 9. But most likely its just my personal issues. It started at dream sequence. While it shows his thoughts and how 033 affects him, the dream felt like you could cut it out without much trouble by finding other reason for Gregor to suddenly chunk all coffee and dig that pod he heard. At the end of chapter when they are apology to each other while blacking out from sleep deprivation felt too cheezy for me aswell, like author tried too hard. As for chapter 9, it feels like author just put lewdness for sake of attention and to bait more people into reading story. Milky who supposed to be more self-restraining suddenly jerk off using his back like sex toy.And while Gregor is sleep deprivated, starving, and totaly exhausted, he doesn't felt like himself. Yes he shouldn't considering his state, but its like he had brain damage with how he can't have even shadow of the doubt about 033's actions. And while this chapter is for bonding characters, lewd part would be easily avoided it Gregor didn't instruct her to move her hips and legs, just paw massage. It feels like unnecessary filler for attention, and only part with wet patch on his back promices development. Maybe its just because I am biased towards more slow-burn romances, and while dangerous situations help accelerate things I tried to count days since they met each other: though its hard to say due lack of day/nigh cycle in caves, he slept at last four times so I assume 4-5 days. 4-5 days and 033 already dripping wet, what a milky slut! Can't fit all in one post so 1/2
>>2926584Back to wet patch. At the end of chapter 10 he was actively trying to find out what it was and not really looked like he will just go to sleep, so I expect it be adressed in next chapter. If it won't, I will be disappointed about chapter 9 and its lack of any payoff. Thats what I can say, though if I feel something doesn't mean I am right - you have right to call me a faggot as much as I can share my expirience. To end this on less negative note, I liked it much more than disliked it. Whitecoats kept my attention not only all day with only minor breaks to check some threads, but I even forgot to eat and it was already my usual time for sleep. Idea of opening pods in game to decise what is inside and go from it is fun. I really liked cooking and seeing them busy crafting stuff, and oh fuck how weird biochem is if you think about it. How those plants even produce this magic do-all juice?2/2
Does anyone have the height chart comparing a human, dunes milkies and expies?
>>2926720I have this>Ignore the yellow lines
>>2926584I wrote the dream sequence because I thought it would be cool. It was something new to try. The rolling-pin technique was a great idea, conceptually. The added leg force was needed to compensate for the weak upper body. The possibility doesn't cross his half-dead mind since they canonically (and scientifically) don't know what sex is. Which is also why the grinding happened. Do you know what happens when you take a young man with no knowledge of sex and you put him in a starchy pair of pants and speed down a dirt road? It's like that.>>2926590I guess I didn't write very clearly that he would be checking it out. That was an honest mistake. Chapter 11 starts with it already off and him staring at it. Originally, Chapter 9, 10, and 11 were supposed to be one chapter, but I realized that would take too long, so I cut them up into three and added some extra details and scenes to each segment (That's a common problem for me). The issue is, that decision left problems like this with no clear answers for too long. The rest of your points I agree with, to a point.
>>2926740Why? They seem important.
>>2926801There is nothing wrong with trying something new, I just never liked dream parts in stories.>The rolling-pin technique was a great idea, conceptually. The added leg force was needed to compensate for the weak upper body.Yes it sounds pretty reasonable, its what come out of using it.From how 033 said he looks like sawian-lover and accused of constantly looking for excuses and manipulating her to get his hands on her soft, clean, silky milky fur I assumed she at last partially aware about it, and with such strong embraced reactions like finding how wet she made his shirt she knows why those fluids being produced from that part of her body, I thought.

>>2926874save restored, we lost a bit of progress... atleast its not foggy this time
>>2926860Actually, you have misremembered. Gregory thinks that is what 033's opinion of him is. She states that she heard about people who like to do weird physical things with Milkies, but Gregory only assumes it to be sexual. Even when discussing a really fat Milky, 033 never implies that it seems sexual (it sort of reads like a haha post)033's exact words are "taking advantage of me in some manner" when she scolds him for his unwanted consolation in Chapter 3. This is due to her untrusting nature and aversion to physical contact, not a sexual thing. I 100% did not intend that. Also, when you sit on someone and it leaves a wet spot, you don't have to think it's a sex thing to think "Oh gross, I left a body fluid there. It's a lot, oh no." Besides, did you forget that she left shortly after he could move again? What do you think happened in those tunnels? Also, you gotta imagine how that must feel, to be kicked around like a little creature (that you are) and dig your claws into your partner but they still are nice to you afterwards. It would definitely make a Milky a bit upset and embarrassed, not to mention their hurry to "finish".

>>2927780>Prove me wrongFine.- It comes in a glass bottleIt's very, very rare that isopropyl alcohol would be sold in a glass container. Plastic is far more common in mass production.- Description says you can't digest itMeaning the Expie should at least have been taught about recreational alcohol by the coats, and its effects on their Sawian body.- Stats of it within the game point it to be a 60 proof.1ml of water = 1 point of water quality. In a bottle, 280 points of water quality imply that for 400ml of the liquid, there's 280ml of water in it, and the rest is pure alcohol, so 120ml. After much delay, I have finally gotten around to creating the player state save system. You can create saves of the player's state (inventory, health, skill xp), restore them, and configure a periodic auto-save of every player's state.See:https://github.com/Voxeles/CasualtiesTogetherRandomHostTools#new-commandsIt's still highly untested, but at the very least you'll know what items and xp the player had by simply checking the created .json fileSmall caveat: Favorited items and crafted items won't be synced, the server still knows what items you crafted, but the MP mod has no way of communicating that information back to the clients. So the favorited and crafted status will be reset on your end, as is already the case when loading a save.
>>2929466That's half my point though. No one is going to find a bottle of amaretto and think "this is rubbing alcohol." Even if rubbing alcohol were your only point of reference, you would certainly notice that it's unusually sticky, brown, and that the alcohol smell is mostly covered up by an appetizing aroma.>>2929691Does it save liquid composition too? >>2929687>"The dunes rape">"THE DUNES RAPE"
>>2929718>The Dune abides
>>2929708It saves everything about every item in the player's inventory. Here's an example: https://rentry.co/xpc5is2nIt saves: the item list, the special metadata on each item (battery, ammo, liquid), painkillers, player health, crafted items and player color. If needed, you can manually edit this data and then load it.

>>2929952Honestly it's probably much more common than you imagine to not know canon stuff about this game. Most of the ways people get exposed to sawians is art, which usually depicts them as clearly male or female
>>2929952i'm really confused what comment made you upset, they seem either generically positive and there's 2 that seem to explicitly KNOW the game's canon of them being herms or whatever. also, does this mean the milky in whitecoats is a herm or what?
>>2930043I remember the author saying that they were probably going to be female but it hasn't been mentioned up to this point so I don't know
>>2930053I recall that as well, and since 033 was obviously sexually excited and Greggy didn't feel a poke on his back (but did feel weird Milky crotch juice) I'm going to guess she's not a herm and just female. But that could be wishful thinking.

It also should be easy to make it into a PvE Elimination map and upload it to the in-game level browser which would be neat. With a baron in the cockpit as a final boss and a voyager in the captain's quarters as his fuckto- i mean second-in-command, since them purple bitches love power and strength.I plan to add settlement location references to writeanon's Chasing Achillies fic which will fit in perfectly. I'll also throw in an Icke in the pilot car to complete the Baron-Voyager-Icke trio.We discovered that apparently weather effects prevent voyagers from cloaking which is neat. We also invented a new voyager slur. Invisiger.Voyager's invisibility inspired a new team deathmatch gamemode with 1 non-voyager player vs all voyagers. The voyagers are equipped with sawed-offs, while the non-voyager gets a powerful long ranged weapon like a Garand. This lead to invisiger mines lying in wait for you to run up to them or slowly sneaking towards you so they could instantly blow your head smooth off. It was scary and fun.I'll post clips tomorrow.

>>2931147Great map and great fun today. Honored to have a place aboard your train, anon.
>>2930366"Fixed" it by replacing spaces with underscores in player names when writing the file.https://github.com/Voxeles/CasualtiesTogetherRandomHostTools/releasesIf a player has a space in their name, you can refer to them via their first part i.e. "Balls anon" -> "Balls" (This is true for all commands, so you can use setplrname to rename them as well).Unfortunately the player's name being parsed wrong is just a limitation of the base game's command parser. It will always split a space into two separate arguments no matter what. Quotes do nothing and underscores only work if the command in question replaces underscores with spaces.
>>2931147Very fun map. I really enjoyed the variety of terrain and cover, as well as the little decorative details. Squishing people with the giant elevator was really fun as well. Is there a way to make deathmatch players spawn with a random assortment of weapons? I think something like that could be really interesting for a PvP map in that size.

>>2932933Maybe you could add a weapon spawn system like in Quake 3? It could give a good incentive for players to bunch up at specific points of the map, therefore allowing players to choose how much action they want to engage with (players who prefer controlled duels or who are not confident in their skills could just avoid weapons spawns), especially if the guns in question are significantly better than the standard loadout. Also, a way to increase the health of all players by a certain percentage could be useful as well. While it could make some weapons (specifically shotguns and certain precision rifles) less satisfying to use, it could also increase skill expression somewhat by increasing time to kill and thus giving you the opportunity to recover or escape from unlucky positioning/voyager jumpscares.
>>2930791Invisiger ghost hunt survival horror clips. This asymmetric kind of gamemode was fun. Lots of sneaky invisible voyager moments. I blindly ran straight into invisible voyagers fluffy chests who proceeded to shove their sawed-offs down my throat and pull the trigger many times. I had no idea they were there until it was too late. There are some tells that a cloaked voyager is nearby, such as prop debris being disturbed as they run over it and boxes being jostled as they bump into them and stuff. Survival horror.Giving voyagers a very short ranged weapon and the survivor a powerful long ranged weapon was a great idea. It encourages the sneaky ambush attacks I wanted the voyager team to do and the survivor's scary weapon makes them wary of simply charging him because he can just kill them in one shot if he can see them coming.
>>2932973So that a specific type of weapon spawns at a specific pos? Like making the "Weapon" prop from the Level Editor spawn weapons cyclically at set intervals? The "Arsenal" prop already allows you to configure which weapon it contains, after all. As for the health factor - yea, I’ve wanted to add that for a long time. I also want to add "Random" weapon options to the game rules, specifically "Random[in=Sniper rifle;Pistol]" and "Random[ex=Sniper rifle;Pistol]"
>>2933024>So that a specific type of weapon spawns at a specific pos? On that note, perhaps you could also add the ability to choose exactly which weapons are actually in rotation? Assuming it's not too much work, of course. If someone spawns with a mosin or an auto shotgun, they could just clean the lobby with minimal effort (and that would also make the static spawns way less attractive)
I plan to host a CU steam lobby in about an hour. it will have some gimmicks.

A cave tick swarm all correctly died in one hit, it was incredible.Hostanon also seemed to have a mod that automatically equipped new players? I'd like hosty to share it cus I want it too. This was my first time being crippingly addicted to opiates and wow are the withdrawals massive. It's amazing how much fent an addict expie needs to sate his bottomless cravings. You inject 1mL of fent to soften the withdrawals, and then what feels like just a few minutes later he's already all fucked up and desperate for his next fix.It was very enlightening. Mekon POV experience. While the demands for another fix were constant and strong, the addiction did slowly but steadily decrease over time. It will be very bad for a little while, but it only gets easier and easier over time and then before you know it you're cured.Poor Mekon. Poor Navy. Poor sawians. They deserve better.Witnessing leapyanon killing an elder with a machate was awesome. Chopped salad.
The game is autistically realistic. That means opioids work nearly exactly the way they do in real life: the more you shoot into your veins, the more tolerance you build to it, requiring higher and higher doses for the same high. Conversely, the high from a regular dose will last less and less, yet build tolerance all the same, triggering withdrawal earlier.Past a certain point, you end up with two equally bad choices: shoot a lethal dose and die because your lungs stop working, or die of withdrawal.Of course, you can opt to do a "detox" - use a small dose, strong enough to weather withdrawal so tolerance goes down, and eventually away. But then you'll have to deal with lowered mood, overheating, sickness, and vomiting, which in turn causes thirst and hunger, which lowers mood even more.At that point the game is just not fun.By the way, the max dose of fent before OD is 1.8ml if injected, 1ml being a safer dose.

Anyway we did some more fent science after the main run and figured out that you CAN get off it's just super slow and you have to micro dose constantly. If you acquire the opiated moodle for any length of time you are just making it worse. My recommendation: fill an empty painkillers bottle with 4ml of fent and 96mill of water, then you can just take a 10ml sip every time you are craving and you get a small dose. Beats having to stick yourself constantly anyway. As for the loadout thing, you can set one by using latejoinfix patch.https://www.nexusmods.com/scavprototype/mods/539?tab=descriptionThere is also this anons very helpful mod he just released >>2929691I was using it to create the fent addiction savestate. (and incidentally you can also make loadouts with it)
There is one side effect with using savestates on different players than who they were saved off however... If you don't manually go into the json file and change their RGB values for their name then it will make everyone appear the same color. Another quirk we found is that you can edit the file to overfill things like blood bags and there will be no added weight. (thank you btw hosttoolsanon it is extremely useful already.)
>>2934438>If you don't manually go into the json file and change their RGB values for their name then it will make everyone appear the same colorFixed. I just dropped the player color entirely. It was only there cause I copy-pasted some fields to save from the MP mod. Also fixed body and limbs components not being saved and restored (antidepressant status, chilled limb status, etc.)(Note that the save state format has changed! Old player state files won't work!)https://github.com/Voxeles/CasualtiesTogetherRandomHostTools/releasesActually, for the opiate run I think antidepressants would be very good. They don't increase opiate tolerance, do they?
>>2934507they also say to not mix with opiates on the tin, could be worth testing how bad it could get
>>2934410>performance modI noticed you had like 30fps in the jungle which is incredible(ly good). I assume you're talking about the Multiplayer Optimization Patch mod? That one is good, but my server fps still drops into the single digits too quickly. That same modder also made a new mod called CPU Optimization (MP Support) that works in multiplayer and with his Multiplayer Optimization Patch mod. I'm gonna try it today and hope it helps.https://www.nexusmods.com/scavprototype/mods/670
Decided to play around with Unity's canvas UI today. It sucks.Anyway, here's a question: Is it possible to survive a whole syringe of fent if you have a whole syringe of naloxone on hand?Answer: Yes! A full syringe of naloxone gives you 50s of opiate reduction at -8 opiates per second, but it manages to completely clear the fent after about 40s.Assuming no prior ill effects, your oxygen shouldn't drop to dangerous levels and opiate tolerance will increase only by a little bit.The biggest thing to look out for is low blood pressure, which can force fibrillation once you hit <78. This is before you get the "circulatory collapse" moodle (when "severe hypotension" is still showing) which seems like an oversight to me IMO.
>>2935351Neat visualizer. It's like if the Company upgraded the health chip to be even more detailed and comprehensive.

It used to work, and it's useful for local testing.Patch: https://gitgud.io/-/snippets/2685>ideasRace war: an extension of teams, where your team is your species. Disables the team selection UI and autobalance. /swap-ing is allowed. If you wanted to go even further, you could allow species groups to be specified, so you could have e.g. Experiment & Orange vs. Milky & Voyager.I took a stab at making this myself, but I only sort of got it working and it was a hacky mess so I dropped it. I can post the patch if you want to look at half-baked shitcode.

https://www.nexusmods.com/scavprototype/mods/670you guys see this mod yet? does it work better than other perf mods for mp?
>>2935738Variety Lobby is OVER. Layer races was fun. The first race had maximum multiplying traps which made the jungle an absolute tentacle rape nightmare. It was funny. The second race was just with 3x traps but with KAIZO enabled. Layer 1 was ez. Surprisingly few anons got deep fried in layer 2, layer 3 was very explosive, and layer 4 was bass cannon overload, full of fatalities. Layer 5 was pretty normal too. We encountered two saladas de babel right next to each other which was scary but we just ran like the wind and escaped. After the races we did PvP for the rest of the lobby. Most of it on the Final Destination deathmatch map. At one point we beat each other to death with sledgehammers and it was gnarly, but it turns out expies are surprisingly resilient to getting pulped with hammers. I set PvP damage to 10x and did sledgehammers again and now the hammers were breaking bones and splattering expie skulls and brains like you would expect. Brutal. We finished with team PvP matches where we built our own little bases and trenches and took turns assaulting each other's fortifications. Red team built the significantly fancier base but blue team still successfully won a few times against it.>>2936407I used it for todays lobby and it seems to work very well, I think. I was getting around 30 fps in the desert with I think like around 7 players? And in a steam lobby!!! Not my dedi server. My fps should have been in the single digits with that many players in a steam lobby but instead it was very playable. So yes I think that mod significantly improves multiplayer performance.

Surprise, early Whitecoats update! Took quite a few look-overs to figure out, but this was the most believable since I'm not tracking Foliage since that would be like GMing and DMing a player's inventory in a TTRPG and that's just hell.
>>2937197>>2937215I might consider it. I don't know what the hell I'd write for it.

>be on trip>entire time thinking of ways to write a story, improve already written scenes>take notes with phone>finally get home>no desire to write, think what i've already wrote is dogshitWhat causes this phenomenon?
>>2937395When you are on a trip you're often busy and wearing clothing that tricks your brain into feeling productive. As stupid as this sounds, try wearing shoes and wearing something you'd wear to work while working on art to trick your brain into thinking it's time to be productive.
>>2937395You're also just more creative when you're walking around, it's why people pace. If you're on a trip, chances are you might be walking around more often than usual to go see the sights.
>>2937406Nah it was a work trip. I sat in a classroom and learned about the most boring shit imaginable. >>2937397I wouldn't dare to wear work shoes in the bedroom. They'd track in the cities grime, and either way I had a lot of ideas in the hotel's bedroom.
>>2937418Then buy some cheap shoes from Amazon or your local walmart you wear inside the house and nowhere else
>>2937418You'll just have to trust your classroom self to have known what he was on about then. Personally I find that even when I'm getting back to work on one of my projects, and I look at the screen and see what I think is dogshit, I just have to get at least a hundred words down (easier than you think, and it doesn't even have to be picking right up from where you left off. Just a hundred words of scene somewhere in the story) and that'll put me back in the right mindset to tidy up the previous work and keep it going.
I'm glad we got the original after all this timebut without the OC in the middle, the picture has lost its focal point (which is kind of narcissistic when you think about it like that)someone suggested a human, and I wish I could do that. You could even have them petting the Voyager with their foot.
>>2937453A scientist, to be more precise. Whitecoat static and all.But missing from the picture is also the Baron, so that's also a possibility. Barons seem like they'd be natural leaders, so it fits well too.
>>2937453It's a good thing you managed to nab this, because the discord mods just deleted it.
This is a bit off-topic, but this art just reminded me.How many of you played Rain world? I know about the Rain world to C:U pipeline, but I personally could never get into it.Both games are punishing, but with C:U you can start fresh, whereas with Rain world I always get that feeling of being soft locked. The fact that C:U has a chipped and unchipped mode also helps greatly. It allows you to pick up on the mechanics of the game, so that you're more prepared for the hardcore/no-info version. With Rain world I just got lost, every path led to an enemy I couldn't avoid or to a dead end, and I quit.
>>2937552I picked Rain World up around when it came out, but didn't get into it then after a short attempt. When it started getting hyped again after the Downpour DLC released, I went back in and chose to stick with it, mostly because I'd been spoilered to the existence of something in the game I thought was super interesting the iterators and wanted to see for myself. That's when I actually beat it for the first time, then went through the Downpour campaigns. When I started recommending the game to my friends, many of them also complained about feeling lost and aimless. I ended up jumping in to watch some of them stream it on separate occasions, and then acting as a navigator to guide them along the basic route to hit the main points of the standard campaign. Having that direction seemed to help them enjoy the game until they could get picked up more fully into the plot. Also I switched to playing with the camerascroll and spear aim mods as soon as I realized they existed, and never looked back.
>>2937552Curious, isn't it? I actually consider Rain World more forgiving than C:U, because you don't lose all your things on death, just karma you can easily get back by surviving another cycle. For Rain World it's a common occurrence for players to quit the first time they play it, then revisiting it later down the line, and falling in love with it.The feeling of being completely lost is part of the game. You're a rat-like thing skulking around a world that doesn't care about you - you simply exist in it. Do not fight if you don't have to. Always carry a weapon with you. Sneak around and be a fast little rat. And survive. But yes, you can sometimes get somewhat softlocked in it. Particularly if you manage to stumble into to the noob trap that is DS. But only somewhat, because as you get good, you'll find it easy to travel to just about anywhere.Or you could be a scrub like me and simply look up the map.I recommend looking up the movement guide and practicing it in sandbox. It's mostly an exercise in stubbornness and perseverance, but once you start getting a feeling of the controls, you won't be able to put the game down. And dance around lizards. Snack on them, even. The sights are magnificent, too. Pic related, you'll know when you get there.>>2937692>Downpour>I'd been spoileredThis for me too. I actually read the wiki from top to bottom before getting back into the game. And then clocked 400 hours in it.However I did play The Watcher blind. Still steamed about the devs releasing it incomplete though.
Chasing Achilles, chapter 3! The heroes do a lot of walking, and a little bit of talking.https://archiveofourown.org/works/91686676/chapters/246439686
>>2937759Forgot to mention, but spoilers don't really spoiler this game at all, because it's very much about the experience.Kinda like the difference between seeing a photo and looking directly at the scenery it is depicting. Also you can use explosives, much like C:U.
>>2937419Eh... I don't think that's the thing, I'm not exactly wanting for inspiration. it's just kind of... now that I'm here and sitting down, how do I reconcile the gameplay mechanics to writing, if that makes sense. Like, how closely do I want to hew to canon in general, where to depart, and how to make it make sense and not seem like an asspull. As an example of something I think works well, I'm writing in new weaponry, but I'm keeping the weapons 5.56 and 9mm to align with the actual ammunition available in the game, which I think is a nice compromise.>>2937434Yeah I'm about 4k words in, I want to at least get the first couple chapters out to set the table before anything else. >>2937453I think it was a commissioned piece, so the centering makes sense. Still funny how the jannies deleted it though, I can get why the original artist wouldn't like it modified but at the same time, it's the fuckin' internet. That's just how it is.
>>2937779The original version is the one with the not-sawian, the empty seat is a photoshop version that originated here on one of the threads. The fact that folks don’t like the weird dog oc thing isn’t really important, because it’s a commission that someone paid for, otherwise that image wouldn’t exist. >>2937552Very much this >>2937759 I bought it and was very frustrated when I kept dying with no clear objective other than to follow the weird little alien that pointed at things sometimes but didn't seem to lead anywhere. I didn't play it for years until eventually coming back to it and googling what I was supposed to do. I gleaned that I was supposed to go up and to the right and felt confident embarking after looking at the wiki maps some. It was a tough slog but I made it to 5 pebbles eventually and was quite shellshocked when something actually started TALKING to me. "I thought I was just here to suffer alone endlessly!" (yeah actually) After that I was moving with a clear drive and purpose. A little more wiki reading and I discovered that the game actually has a very intricate movement system that is tough to master but feels amazing once you start to get the hang of it and you go from dying constantly to actually being able to thrive no matter where you are. I think it is an amazing game and the ending hit me in the feels pretty hard. Shadow of the Colossus comes to mind for some reason... I guess it gave me a similar feeling of grand scope and sadness. Anyway the main factor that puts people off is just how obfuscated it is. It's both a blessing and a curse. They certainly could have included a better movement tutorial somehow because it is almost essential for surviving.>>2940301I think I tried to pirate it once to have a backup but I couldn't get it to work and it was a steam version anyway, defeating my purpose. I would still highly recommend picking it up on chirstmas or something though when its only a few bucks.
>>2940585>>2940585...And now that I think about it some I didn't even know how well you could move until I pvped with someone I knew one day and they kicked my ass doing all kinds of flips and rolls n' shieeet. I don't think I am anywhere close to their level now even but it opened my eyes to just how nimble you can actually be but the game itself will explain barely any of this and its unlikely to become proficient on accident.

It would certainly turn the eventual reunion into something out of a horror show. It isn't what I have planned, but now a part of my wants to write an alternate bit for how it could have gone down were that the case. Ultimately though, much of the idea of the story is focused on Patton collecting clues as to how someone who at one point embodied a hero to those around him would be driven to a murder, and to other actions yet to be seen. I think it would take a better writefag than me to reckon that with the answer being that the actual Achilles is dead and got body-snatched in a satisfying manner.

Thankfully this is easy to sort out.Even the MP mod can get this stuff wrong sometimes. Ever wondered why you randomly get the 'satisfied' moodle after healing/respawning? That's because fixing a broken bone gives you a small happiness bonus that the MP mod doesn't properly reset.>The "Painkillers" field is goneThe original painkillers field was a bit of a hack, since it's actually an optional component that should be in "BodyComponentsDictionary". Since it's optional, it will not appear unless you are opiated. Just for you, though, I made it always appear for easy access. The .json for components is not as pretty as standalone, but it works.I also made it possible to load the state for everyone and not just one person, as the macros didn't work previously. While I didn't intend for the save system to be used for loadouts, there's nothing wrong with using it like that. The only thing I should mention - the file list autocomplete in the LoadPlayerState command is refreshed only when the command is executed. So if you're renaming files/adding new files, just run the command, even with no arguments, to update the file list.

So the trench pvp session really tickled my 'tism. Does anyone know or care to explain how the maps are loaded in this game? I was actually going to make some sprites based on some photos I was using if you wanted some help. I was thinking British brown gear, a German early war kit with the decorative pickelhaube. German late war kit would look closer to the utilitarian look of the British kit, however. One generic bolt action rifle would work if you could make it work like the pump shotgun (manually load every round into the fixed box mag, have to cock it between shots to simulate the bolt action). Not sure if we could or should make a water cooled machine gun...Either way, I was going to get started on these today and I've got Affinity photo open

For the machine gun should probably only give one to a side during PvP matches. Water cooled LMGs might be best purely to limit their usefulness and make them more of a pseudo-static placement by making them heavy and unwieldy for individual use in run-and-gun scenarios.
>>2945360was trying it but it didn't seem to load correctly for vanilla players.
>>2946242To add to this, I was thinking just for balancing reasons so the Allies don't get a rifle with a superior 10-round magazine when Central Powers only get 5-round so perhaps>One generic pastiche of all of the service rifles, possibly carbine length (purely because Milkies and Expies are rather short by human standards and with full power cartridges it would be marginally more controllable) ~30-32px long sprite>One generic pastiche of all man-portable light machine guns of the war, probably water-cooled so it acts as an unwieldy pseudo-static placement you have to drag with you like a mini-barrel, ~38-42px long sprite>Specific Central Powers grey Uniform and Helmet (default leg bags, and small backpacks are perfectly adequate for LARP and look the part) for identification mainly, with helmet as a weaker riot helmet (default values seem a bit overtuned) which I was thinking M16 Stahlhelm purely to match the British steel helmets, but others preferred the Pickelhaube, I remain unsure>Specific Allied Powers brown British Uniform for identification mainly, with matched Brodie Helmet since it's the most iconic.Using the riot helmet as the base but lowering it's head protection from 66.7% to maybe 33.2%-50% might be better but would require testing and tuning with fairly realistic performance of a generic full power cartridge rifle.Either way, that should give enough of a spread for WW1 LARP without going into too much detail.

>>2946954>I'm a little unsure how I'm going to translate this code into a usable add-onFundamentally, you've got to create a BepInEx plugin that uses HarmonyX to modify or hook into the game's code. You can look at my mod https://gitgud.io/anon92382/CunkScraps for reference. Another anon's https://github.com/Voxeles/CasualtiesUsableSprayBottle is also a good basic example. CUCoreLib is a library that aims to make modding CU easier, and it has nice documentation at https://cucorelib.web.app/. Any Unity modding guide that uses BepInEx should be applicable if none of the above are doing it for you.It probably sounds very complicated, but it's really not once you wrap your head around it.

>>2947214Hey anon. I think you forgot to bring your rentry link over with you from the /v/ thread. Anyways, I'd say this is pretty decent overall, especially if you really have no prior experience.I'm also rather tired to be going back over for picking out specific examples right now (though I can after I get some sleep if you want it), but the biggest thing I would recommend is paying attention to your tenses. There were a few times in there where you swapped into past tense where it should have stayed in present for that particular moment, among other things. Which I get, because half of my editing is realizing I've done the opposite, and randomly reverted to present tense when I meant to be writing in past tense.Aside from that, and a few typos, it read very naturally to me. I didn't have any trouble following or understanding it at all, and would have had no idea you were ESL if you didn't say so outright. I definitely want to read more and hope you continue!

>>2947571>mostly human stuffYes and no. The sawians have their own story arc and perspectives, it's an ensemble cast story where the plot beats are nearing their merge. New game development update from the dev:https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/4576490/view/679635225181947012
>>2947575I have no interest in human parts of the story, so I worry I won't even bother to stomach them to read the parts I will actually be interested in. So constant mention of "Nothing happened yet, but soon..." felt like bad omen of that I won't be able to enjoy reading it in the end. But its okay, not all stories must be for everyone, and no reader must like reading everything, people have their own preferences. And to be honest, sometimes I feel like some retarded dune for missing some obvious details while reading other stories, and as I remember from one author's post there would be enough moments to catch on after second reading.
>>2947602>i also sprinkled more drill pods around the world and made them easier to use, since runs can get very long. Finally, some actual reason to use those things! Entire demo they felt like total waste of time and resources: traps get more dangerous as depth increases and you will loose on both loot and expirience using drill pods, making you less prepared for future. While not a problem for expirienced players who can tear salad to death with merely their claws, only reason to use drill pods is some kind of speedrun or just to satisfy your curiosity of how they even work because you ignored them entire time you played.

>>2946897Anon where who originally critiqued the first two chapters. Overall I think they're in much better shape as per conveying a stream of information to the reader and *mostly* not being contradictory. But let me be very pedantic here, because I think I have a good example of something you do that almost seem to not even matter and we can just keep moving on with the story... But it does add up.>Where I live. It’s familiar, but I can only feel empty when I see it.I have the foresight to know he lives here with his brother, and associates their connection with warmth and safety, and more than that, anxiety about some of his brother's behavior. So where's this emptiness coming from? Are you trying to say he's indifferent to an image of what is a sterile room but not *their* room? Or if it's their room, he doesn't think about his brother? He doesn't think about the violation of their living space, or if he's just used to it, then the unfairness that he had to get used to it? So then why did he wince seeing the image? And then why does he yell for his brother? Either he knows and is used to this place being controlled and being hurt for disobedience, or he does not. Or am I supposed to think that there were previous instances he yelled for his brother and he could and was allowed to help him with no punishment? And if he *does* know he shouldn't have yelled and you're just portraying him as a weak willed person, why doesn't he reprimand himself for it? And then when he gets into the room his brother is just getting up from the floor, so he didn't hear it anyway? So how does Two not know that yelling wouldn't have done anything anyway if he's been through this so many times already? Or if this is the first time he yelled out, why is there no emphasis on it?Overall 95% of the story is fine, but there are these little things in both chapters that I can only guess what you want to convey, but the information I get out of the story doesn't always line up.

I will buy the game on steam for the first anon to complete this task before the game comes out: Write a minimum of 15k words for an M/M story about the unlikely relationship between a Voyager and a Milky.Your choice as to what the timeline, setting, and dynamic is. I just want a Voyager and a Milky involved, and I want there to be conflict.Maybe they're in the same lab and begrudgingly partner up to put their brainpower together so they can try to escape. When they're together they're always bickering and in a constant power struggle to determine who gets to be in charge, but whenever the scientists separate them they realize that they would rather be with each other than alone.Maybe they're rival mercenaries during the Gunsaw era who've been forced to work together on a big job for a powerful employer that they're both indebted to. There's a lot of muttered curses and general gnashing of teeth, but it turns out that their combat styles are surprisingly symbiotic. Could even throw in some intrigue, something like the job all just being a ruse meant to take out both of them in one go, and now neither of them will get out of this alive unless they keep working together.Maybe they're coworkers at some Gunsaw era business together. Couriers or something. They don't like each other at all and try to avoid working together as a result. But when one saves the other's life (on purpose or otherwise) it creates a feeling of indebtedness, and the relationship grows from there.I don't know. I don't care. 15k words. Milky. Voyager. M/M. They start off disliking or even hating each other, but by the end they're together. One naturally has to prevail as the more dominant one. Your choice who. Bonus points if the relationship is caustically toxic but they love each other anyway. All you have to do to claim the prize is put your steam name in the notes or foreword of the AO3 upload, or just attach your steam name when you post the fic here. Offer up until someone does it

>>2950252Okay I think I've got a rough outline to work with.>Setting and timeline are roughly 100-200 years after C:U enough that pockets of society could pop up on the grey planet, likely being manipulated by Y and Z company, set specifically on a small industrial city island with a single large gauge railway connected by a bridge to the mainland and to nearby settlements>Areas between settlements are dangerous so the bridge has gates and guard towers at either end>Most of the industrial base of the island is centered around the mine and facilities that takes up a good 25-50% of the island, supporting industrial areas to refine both coal and iron for use in the steel mills.>The natural terrain is centered around an old asteroid impact crater from thousands of years ago that created a large mountain on the one side which the residential area snakes up. In many ways it resembles Hashima Island in Japan but on a larger scale with equally shitty reinforced concrete mid-rise apartments and industry all over with a mixture of new, older, and abandoned or crumbling structures with few large courtyards. Old and still operating ropeways serve passengers and cargo.>Voyager is a "scavver" who leaves the city usually every day or once a week for an undetermined time leaving either by taking the train just to the city limits over the bridge or walking across after or before the morning train. His job is to scavenge older equipment from the ruins around the mainland to bring back to private scrap dealers or the company that runs the mine for money. He's as poor as the Milky and they live in the same shitty apartment block>Milky is just a guy on the ground for the railway who works in and around the yard with a mixture of manual labor and paper work but has a steady wage which probably irks the voyager who considers the job "cushy" by his standards, despite this he's just as poor as the Voyager due to the material conditionsGoing to aim for 10k words.
>>2950589>another train storywe're seeing the opening stages of an autism outbreak
>>2950600It's set dressing and has very little to do with the story other than the one having a job with it. When moving that much material it's easier to build a train than a truck in the long run.
>>2947763Hey anon, I just finished giving it a read. The style threw me off at first, I find so many single lines to be rather tedious. Decided to stick with it anyways though, and I'm glad to have done so because I did enjoy it in the end.I wish there was a little more to the mystery, since that was the initial driving factor for me to keep going, but it just being Observer shenanigans was kind of the obvious answer. Fair enough, there's only so much we know about Observer, but I would've have liked to see at least a bit more intrigue on that front. The highlight for me was definitely seeing your take on both the corporate culture, and the expie culture. The touch with their unique philosophy regarding names was cool. Jingles was consistently cute and I felt bad for the poor guy.Scratches honestly deserves his own full story. Holy shit. The ending was bittersweet. Sure, Jingles lucked his way into a happy ending, but I have a particular kind of feeling about the way it seems he'll be so disconnected from the rest of his kind. He seems to either really not get just how bad the rest of the expies have got it, or worse, fully understands, but the concept is so normalized in his comprehension. It twists me up.
>>2944709Finally got around to reading this, very enjoyable read anon, nice and unique. Had me on the edge of my seat for nearly the whole thing. Absolutely recommend anyone that wants stories set in a gunsaw-like setting read this one. The rest of the Crockett gang and the cops both just abruptly up and leaving with no fanfare was pretty funny. The whole concept of Stickers is absolutely amazing and you managed to work a lot of the intricacies of that into this, I especially liked Whiners being confused about what she meant because of how many stickers she had when it mattered quite a lot. Poor Kelly, poor Ned, fuck Crockett though. Loved the portrayal of a baron being an absolute fucking tank. Also really liked the idea of "Cargo-era" resources being incredibly valuable and irreplaceable, reminds me of snowpiercer. The line breaks seemed a tad excessive, though the amount of abrupt scene changes seemed necessary for such a sequence and it felt fine. A little sad that the secks stories get way more kudos than this, but that's just the way it goes, you've got mine at least. Also, exactly 7,777 words, how intentional was that? That's pretty neat.
>>2950589I've been writing some stuff out while dead and I figured that due to the likely lack of use of alcohol, any drug culture that would spring up equivalent might be based around opiate tonics done up in a similar way to early medicinal sodas... I was thinking the No.1 Tonic would basically be a "small beer" equivalent and more or less somewhere between a Finnish Sima and a Small Beer, sharing the citrus flavouring, but I'm unsure where they would get the flavourings from... Geofruit maybe?No.3 Tonics would be closer to a beer, unsure what to flavour them. Stronger so they would need stronger flavourings to mask the bitter opium tonic base...No.7 Tonics would be much more concentrated and more analogous to a hard liquor or brandy of 29-47% ABV, as such the base is likely extremely bitter and needs at least 2 flavours to help the medicine go down...Obviously we don't know all the items that will be included in the main game so for all I know they could have lemons enough to grow them... Either way, the company that operates the mines, island, train line, and many but not all of the businesses on the island would produce and regulate it because an incapacitated worker is no good and a safety hazard.
>>2949817>im glad the dev hasnt killed themself yetim a newfag, can someone give me the qrd on why you guys keep saying moffee's gonna an hero himself?
>>2950817nta but that's just kinda how it goes for 99% of promising early access/demo only games with a solo dev or small dev team, the dev just fucks off and never finishes it. Double the fear when the dev is gay and a furry. I believe the killing himself thing is just an exaggerated way to say stops working on the game and moves on to other projects or disappears off the face of the internet. Though he is a depressed polish guy so, a welfare check once in a while might be a good thing. But yeah, he's got a publisher on his back and he also seems to really like the game he's making so it's almost certainly getting finished, which is great.
>>2950252Does it need to have sex in it, or is that a bonus? I was thinking of mainly writing of their relationship and the mundanity of normal life in abnormal/less than ideal living conditions
>>2950413Thank you, truly. Reading through this made me realize that I've been stumbling in the dark for all my life. Excuse me while I go do a crash course on English, shouldn't take a week. Before I go do that though:Initially I wanted to write in the Past tense, the vast majority of English literature is written in Past tense after all. But as demonstrated, I quickly pivot to Present tense, because I come from working on visual novels, where it is king, so it feels more natural to me. As such, it is the tense I will maintain going forward.Furthermore, First person also comes more naturally for me for the same reason, but I was also planning to write certain scenes/chapters in the Third person, like the bullying scenes, because they wouldn't work otherwise. All the more reason to do that crash course.
>>2950954>because I come from working on visual novelsHow odd, we now have at least two anons like that
I've been thinking about the 'smaller maps' suggestion... What if we just spawned the players deeper into the layer?Could add a world setting for the RandomHostTools mod where the host can specify the starting depth. In fact, if you spawn the players halfway you could make a 'radline always on' lobby.pic unrelated
>>2950983i personally know at least 3 expies that would be racing upward 3 microseconds after loading in if we were to spawn halfway down. I'd probably do it too, frankly. That's a really elegant solution though. I'd mostly just be worried about the game finding a suitable spot to spawn everyone on halfway down, lots more ways to just brutally spawnkill everyone, especially when that still happens sometimes at the very top. Still, that'd be worst in layer 4, and that's probably one you would turn that setting off in anyway. Would love to try it and see how it feels.
>>2951006I thought about that too, and there's a nuclear solution to that problem: A thick line of inifirock for the width of the layer above the starting depth. If needed, I can also force a nice spawning location by just clearing out a 5x5 area around the spawn point.I don't remember who asked this, but I saw someone wondering if custom maps are possible. Explaining exactly what I can and cannot do with the worldgen is a bit difficult - while something like a full-on custom map could work in theory, in practice it would cause a lot of desync. Still, I feel like implementing the ability to save and load the world tiles just to see how bad it would be.On a personal note, the RandomHostTools mod is currently the perfect balance between effort-to-result for me. It's very fun seeing how you use the little coding toys I make.
>>2950660Please, you'll make me blush.Stickers was my favorite of them to write hands down, I'm glad she seems to have been a hit. Near the end I realized I'd basically just thrown the story her way though, and had to go back and change it to give Ned, Whiner, and Boone more than a single scene from their perspectives each.I hadn't heard of Snowpiercer, but now I'm gonna go watch it. Thanks. You're right about the line breaks, if I do another story where the perspective bounces around so much I'll find a less obtrusive way to denote the shifts.Brother, I don't even THINK about comparing my kudos or hits to the stories focused around romance, let alone sex. I get it, people are horny, especially anons and the ao3 crowd. I am more than happy with the way my stuff has been received already. Thanks for the kudos, writefriend.Completely unintentional. The current word count was a very pleasant accident following a few edits I made after the initial posting, such as making Kelly's firing into the crowd more directly stated than implied.
>>2950954Glad I could help in any way, and I hope your crash course is enjoyable. Most is written in Past tense, but I think it's only going to become more and more common for Present (And First person) to take center stage. It's how I've done most of my own writing as well, I only recently started using Past just so I have the experience.

>>2953585>The plight of Sawians in-game, in fics, and as discussed with anons has firmly turned me against the idea of artificially creating intelligent forms of life. It's just not worth it. How could you create something that can think and feel, only to let it suffer? Or even worse, to deliberately inflict unbearable pain and suffering upon it. Isn't that just reinventing antinatalism from first principles? Besides, imagine cuddling up with an Expie and petting them and hearing them sigh in pleasure and love. Just because there is suffering in life does not mean there is not goodness.
>>2946897I like the updated and improved first chapters. It's very sad what the coats have done to them. The closely-bonded family dynamic they have only increases the sympathy and tragedy. I agree with Dr. K, the expies are disturbingly human, and One and Two are cute. I want to help them. They deserve so much better.Brian has an extremely difficult job. I know with absolute certainty that sawians calling me by my name, asking cute innocent questions, and getting visibly excited for activities would strongly endear me to them. Too strongly. My ass would be terminated for being too soft and friendly with the lab rats.Sawian wetwork is intriguing. I wonder how that works?Zero, One, and Two have suffered, but at least they have each other. I feel so bad for all the other sawians who are presumably kept alone in what is basically solitary confinement for their entire lives. They deserve better. I'm so glad the Company and sawians aren't real and never will be.Your story makes me sympathetic for Zero, One, and Two, and also has me dreading what's coming next. In a good way. I just haven't finished many songs because I require a lot of feedback and guidance on tracks to quiet the perfectionism.

>>2953840>I don't think this song has an instrumental though so I basically did it for the hell of it. Oh well! There may be hope yet anon, from the FAQ:>I have a song idea, but there’s no instrumental for that song. Am I fucked?>Yes. Is what I would have said in the past, but it’s [Current Year], we’re not cavemen, and we have technology to solve those problems, using complex digital fuckery that I don’t fully understand myself, you can use this program (https://github.com/Anjok07/ultimatevocalremovergui) to remove vocals from your songs. I’ve never used it, I have a shitty computer and you need a decent rig to run it well. Better hardware equals better results, so just, you know, mind your specs. You can also use this to help other anons make instrumentals for their songs>>2953959Love it, but I may be biased because reasons. You'd be up against a way older rendition, Cis-Fire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heIH9vfwKBM), dunno what the rules are on parodying the same song again (from the FAQ, at times it seems like a no-no, and other times it seems like it's just for songs used in the same year? no idea how this works), but I'd love to see my /v/TM inspired shitpost circle back into an actual song regardless
Narvik, you got a steam? I want to add you to get some feedback on this chapter when I'm done because I'm years out of practice. Fine if you don't want to post it here, we'll have to use a /vm/ lobby as an intermediary anyway later because I'm not attaching my steam name to this story.

I made the terms of my offer broad specifically to give as much artistic freedom as I could to anyone who wanted to take me up on it. I'll still take a look if you want but you don't NEED to get my approval or anything, that's not the point. >>29377611/2The mention of the Grey planet's wildlife from Bloodsaw is cool. I'm glad my makeshift Bloodsaw bestiary was useful for you.Cherish makes a great point, there'd be far less traps in the caves after many years have passed. Indeed, if the Cargo is what I think it is, and it functions how I think it functions, then it's possible the trap caves could become much safer after it's retrieved. I'm pretty sure Cherish was joking though, there's no way he'd actually rather travel through the tunnels, right? Like there's no way traveling through the tunnels would be faster than on the surface.>stripping the circuitryI like this because good quality circuitry in-game weighs only 0.1u but can be worth up to 5 rep which is very nice, actually. 5 rep is not a lot, but compared to a heavy 1u scrap metal that's also worth 5 rep you can see that circuitry has a far higher value-to-weight ratio. If you're scavving for valuables in the caves, you'd much rather fill your bag with dozens of nice circuit boards and make a fat paycheck compared to several heavy chunks of scrap metal that are barely enough to buy a quality bag or medicine.>"No one moans when they drink water, dumbass."KEK these two are great together.>"What did it catch?"Damn. Such is life on the Grey planet.Voyagers ability to turn invisible raises interesting questions for how they'd be seen and treated by other sawians and their society. A race of people who can turn invisible at will would no doubt be stereotyped as sneaky thieving murdering types, and there would probably be a lot of truth to that stereotype. Voyagers would be sought after and hired for dirty jobs perfectly suited to their stealthy abilities. And then you get self-fulfilling prophecies where voyagers experiencing prejudice are forced to do dirty jobs and thus confirming the stereotype and viscous cycle. Poor invisigers.
>>29377612/2The talk of color is interesting. The Grey planet is grey. Grey gravel. Grey mountains. Grey clouds. Grey sky. Grey planet. Do you think this would make sawians interested in painting things pretty colors when they can? Sawians painting the insides and outsides of their homes and settlements pretty colors to break up the monotonous grey of the world they live in. Sawians wearing colorful clothing and accessories.I enjoyed their trading of stories and working together. It's almost like old times. And I see know what Cherish meant by taking the caves. He's probably still joking. Cute and funny cheeky grinning cheshire cat. Those cross-shaped scars and the scars on his wrists make me feel bad for the voyboy.I'm not surprised that layer modifiers are still a thing, even on the surface. I like to think of the Observer as a Rimworld storyteller. It enjoys throwing random events at people out of curiosity to obseeeeerve what happens. Both Achilles and Cherish had faith in the labcoats. What a gutpunch it would be to learn that faith was hilariously foolish and naive because the labcoats never cared about you at all. You're not special. You never were. You're not coming back. You're expendable. And unless you found the Cargo, you're also worthless. Just like all the others so uncaringly sent and abandoned by the humans. Humans are so cruel.I'm looking forward to the next chapter and SudsCorp.

If I'm working under the assumption that only a minority were actually deployed for Cargo Mission, and the rest were dumped afterwards when the Company started trying to distance itself from evidence of being involved with them, then I think the majority dumped after are largely neutral on the neutral colors. The lab wasn't a very colorful place either, so it's what they're still used to. There are still color enjoyers among them, indeed whole settlements in places, but they're eccentrics that will be much more appreciated once immediate survival needs aren't so constantly at the forefront of most people's minds. A decade or two down the line maybe, and I bet it'd be all the rage.I think the true color lovers would be those that went after the Cargo and lived to come back up. It seems real pretty once you're past the gravel lands, despite the danger.>>2956252>>2956259The pastebin is kill):>If only they had a matching pair of makeshift scrap metal armor.Honestly Ned and Kelly don't have the armor because I already wrote a duo to be wearing that kind of armor (much) later in Chasing Achilles. Another extra boon [is] in the skin (Dunes don't have fur) and eyes: iridescent patches resembling scarring [surround] normal skin, thick strips that [resemble] messy outlines of gashes running across their body. Their eyes [hold] a version of the same effect, oddly reflective of strange colors.>I'm a bog-standard Experiment, incredibly useful only for the fact that our species [is] by far the most numerous. Frankly, I [figure], Toothy ought to be carrying more around.>In my own mind I [can] hear the rebuttal from Bones.>A little over twelve years old now, [they're/they are] approaching the age I was when I'd been dropped.>The oldest of our group, enough that their age [is] starting to show.>What Milkies [lack] for in strength they [make] up for in intelligence and skill. Even with their age and without their weapons, Bones probably [has] a fifty-fifty chance of beating me in a fight.>If I [were to gripe] that [I'm/I am] carrying too much, Bones would point out how Toothy's range of movement [is] far more important than mine. This [is] annoying in largest part because Bones would be completely correct in a way hard to argue against: Toothy's effectiveness depends on their range of motion. Mine doesn't.>The most striking feature is neither of those, instead being the huge crystalline rock [which is] located just on the shore, towering nearly a hundred meters into the air.>(which they [call] 'the knife')That's everything I caught!
>>29553952/2And now, some miscellaneous comments unrelated to editing.>My fur paint and makeup don't do much to warm me up.I really like this concept, I'm surprised I haven't seen it show up before. I hope we'll get to see a bit more about sawian fur paint culture. If these are mercenaries, is it meant as flashy war paint to intimidate? Is it a practical manner for letting allies quickly identify them in a crowd? Or is it just fashionable where the protagonist is from?>Fittingly, they're outfitted in more practical gear. A network of blue straps attached to each other through rings and clasps is fitted over much of their body, allowing quite a few attachment points for containers and hooks for climbing.Wait a second, that seems familiar...>I hear Bones yawn a few times and I half expect them to climb on Toothy's back for a nap again. The Masterblaster strategy cannot be bested.>The tip of the knife is contained in one such structure, and from it a beam of pink light lances out across the water. Are they using an emission crystal as the lighthouse light? That's a cool touch.

HlVox has a problem where something somewhere is appending zero bytes to the end of messages. It happens in Steam Lobbies, but not on local servers. I haven't tested it on an internet dedicated server. Anyone know what would be causing that? Except for the log spam they create, the null values are safely ignored, so it's not a big deal. >>2965085Good guess, but it's more than just a terminator. It looks like all of the weird messages are being padded out to either 64 or 128 bytes in length. Plus, the messages are entirely made up of unsigned shorts, so string stuff shouldn't factor in.For example:>Item syncId=13: 0254 027C 023B 0254 028B 023B 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000(syncid is a ushort and there's also a ushort msgid field)

>>2965321>Are you sure all messages aren't padded to a multiple of 64?I'm not sure of anything. LiteNetLib's docs hardly say anything and then you've got KrokMP doing god knows what on top of that. You're probably right and that's what it is. And it's probably a Steamworks thing which is why it's not showing up locally.>add an explicit check for the zerosThat's what I'm gonna go with for now. It's backwards compatible and there never was or will be a "word zero" (thank fuck I used 0xfff1 instead of 0 for the stop word).>>2965352Man, I searched for "steamworks padding" and came up with jack shit. Thank you.
>>2965218Anon you've made me dig into a rabbit hole that i'm not too used to, lol. But here's my other two cents.NetDataWriter (the class where, from what i understood, you Put() the data to be sent to the network) stores all of its data in the format of a byte array, and the default constructor initializes it with a size of 64 by default. Net.CreateWriter() will call this default constructor if you don't specify a size. ResizeIfNeed (called by Put()) will resize _data to twice its size if deemed needed. From what i see here C# initializes everything to zero whenever you make a new array of a certain size or call resize(), so that's why it looks like your messages are being "padded" to 64 bytes or 128 bytes etc. They were zero-initialized arrays of that size from the start. Why steam lobbies maintain the zero-initialization but not local servers i wouldn't know. Well what i say is, if it's causing problems (i didn't see any in our earlier lobby), i would just write a simple "shrink_to_fit" method to cut the zeros before calling Client_Send.My understanding of C# is limited to making one small mod for this game that i never posted anywhere, so please go easy on me if i grossly misunderstood something.

>>2965355>"hmofa">is actually just human-milky friendship/cohabitation and /biz/ partnershipanyway good story
>>2965393A good guess, and actually a more accurate explanation than mine was.As it turns out, the issue is on the Multiplayer mod's side - specifically the way it wraps Steamworks.NET using the LiteNetLib utilities. They use NetDataWriter.Data when constructing a payload to send, which includes the entire allocated buffer, and not just the in-use portion. Direct IP connections don't have this problem, as LiteNetLib correctly uses their own utilitiesAlso, as it turns out, I misread the Steamworks docs which explicitly state that the size of the payload IS preserved>For the message semantics used here, however, the sizes WILL match>Reliable messages will be received in the order they were sent (and with the same sizes [...])https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/api/ISteamNetworkingSocketsDoes that mean that unreliable messages don't have their size preserved? Idk, the docs only focus on the ordering of packets and whenever they can be dropped. I presume yes?

Reliable messages will be received in the order they were sent (and with the same sizes --- see SendMessageToConnection for on this subtle difference from a stream socket).>Unreliable messages may be dropped, or delivered out of order with respect to each other or with respect to reliable messages. The text is not super clear to me either, but it looks like there's an implication there of something like "Unreliable messages [behave the same but] may be dropped, or delivered out of order[...]". It's ambiguous and i'm not 100% sure, but this seems to me the intended interpretation.

Also if an artist's dialogue kinda sucks it doesn't hurt the overall piece (too) much, but if a writer's writing sucks, well, it's unsalvageable. >>2972263Actually just had a brain blast >>2972283The cost saved by cooking burgers at home is $964.89-$2782.5 USD on a per month basis with an individual meal cost of $25.65 per day for baseline, and $57.25 per day for obese. Now I'm imagining some human who adopted an expie trying for months to find a meal for the picky expie until he takes her to a fast food place in an exasperated state and she LOVES it. It being fast food, he can't justify buying her that every day, so he buys a griddle and a bunch of things to make proper burgers and spends days experimenting with the expie to come up with her ideal burger and it ends up like this >https://www.youtube.com/shorts/xS1Q7Q0MW2Ealong with tallow fried fries, and maybe onion rings, or chicken nuggets. He makes this once for some friends and one friend immediately offers him funding to start a fast food chain with him as the cook. He jumps at this opportunity because of the money involved because it would reduce costs to feed his expie even more and it becomes wildly successful, possibly with a Wendy's-like mascot based on his adopted expie as the company mascot while the expie is just happy she can have all the food she wants.Feel free to do something with this if you want or not. I'm not an architect, but it's an idea.

>>2972313i would advise against hovering over the spoiler i have considered writing something involving an incredibly gassy leapy who is embarrassed about that fact, and it flares up when they're nervous and passing gas in front of others makes him nervous so it's a bit of a vicious cycle thing there. also, they'd be in the gunsaw era with all sawians, and a normal and expected greeting is sniffing each others butts so that would lead to some fun things potentially. leapy because i'd like some reason for the gas to not smell like how it usually does, and is instead minty or something. still a gross smell, but, yeah.if you're not that much of a freak then i greatly apologize for verbalizing this thought, but if you are then know that you are unfortunately not alone.

I didn't study theory too much but I tried to learn the loomis head method. Draw something every day and keep experimenting. Moving on from the greentext format has benefited the story.I was very surprised by the reveal in the next chapter. Though now that I think about it there may have been at least one hint about it in the first chapter. The simple mention of Tickie's injury is gutting. I can't imagine what that would be like. >>2974920Of course they do. But facades crack. Imagine you're a Milky, right? You always wanted to do something great. Something more. You're smart, you know it, and the coats know it, even if they don't always say it. For a brief moment, you had hope. You were free. What would you become? A researcher, perhaps, bravely pushing the boundaries of science? Or perhaps a professor, enlightening the next generation and holding classrooms in rapt attention as you regale them with tales of your knowledge and creativity. But now look at you. You're a joke. Nobody gives a fuck about your intelligence. You're an overevolved fleshlight. Your use is purely physical, to be dragged around and used for brief pleasure. Today is Thursday, and it's the 17th time this week an old fat bastard has blown his wad inside you. He wipes his nasty old pecker clean with your tail. You ask to wash it off and he tells you to get the fuck out because he's finished with you. You know from experience it will harden within minutes. Everything hurts, you haven't had a break in weeks. But you need to keep earning money. They get angry when you don't bring in enough. One day you think about escaping, maybe finding someone who loves you and will take care of you, like most Milkies have. But then, who would want you? You're just a whore. A useless, disgusting, replaceable whore.

I can't help but feel bad for the other sawians she lived with, perhaps they could be hired to work for them? She probably doesn't have any close attachments to them or anything but I still think that'd be sweet, a self-made human-sawian pair lifting up other sawians. They could spin the very fact their establishment is mostly staffed by sawians as a feature in their advertisements. Maybe targeting sawians who feel more comfortable mingling among other sawians and for curious or sawian-sympathetic humans.Tony, you're great, but keep workshopping on the name, okay?>>2967851Man, you weren't kidding. Another problem is the colored collar thing, because it completely slipped from my mind again and now I need to find a way to write it in that doesn't feel shoehorned. But anyway, you're probably right about the Ex. I was too new to figure out how to draw out their distrust of each other, but I now know what I could have done. The only way for it to have worked out in a longer, more drawn-out tone would have been for the human and Expie to have known each other before they were launched. >>2982112>throwing your sausage down a hallwayJust think about it for a second... What does a sauage being thrown down a hallway like a javelin look like? Putting your dick down a loose woman or man during sex.
>>2980827That last line had me concerned for a sec. But he probably just passed out and fell on his side, right? I don't think it's rational to think he was pistol-whipped, given that this happened too fast for Dick or the woman to have time to show up around...Also, i am even more intrigued by The secret message in the book. If i had to guess, the last line says "the book is your travel guide". The talk of "pick points" is also interesting. Can't really say much yet, but seems like it's written by an N-corp whistleblower trying to reveal points of interest for investigating. Showing where the juicy stuff (hidden caches, test places) is located. Anon's really getting into a rabbit hole there, holy shitIn fact, i am intrigued by pretty much everything about this story. What i want to say is, i've been really enjoying reading this so far, anon, the mystery vibe in this whole thing truly is something else. I love it. Maybe I'm just not very sexual anymore but I'm really glad that you guys aren't horndogs in-game. I can't even say I really like writing or reading about sex anymore, and I honestly only put the one sex scene into the story I'm writing because I felt like I had to. I don't think it adds anything and I kinda think the story would be better without it.
>>2983604Petting, hugging, cuddling, and other lovey-dovey stuff is better than sex anyway.

>>2983815Fucking adorable citrus dog.
I NEED the full game to come out so I can recover the Cargo and thus stop sawians from being sent to die pointless horrible agonizing miserable deaths in the caves. Playing to just layer 5 over and over has given me such unbearable blueballs I can't handle it.I need to tear out a labcoat's throat.https://youtu.be/WFKWU2NUjY0
Reminder post for the /cum/ drawpile (are we really going to use that acronym moving forward?) tomorrow starting at 8 pm EDT. I'll make another post when it's hosted, of course.

Nothing could ever beat /cum/
/cum/ must stay /cum/you can change it from my cold dead hands
>>2983932Excellent. You will get to see my expie scribbles. On the note of drawing with a mouse, I found I could get smoother lines when I use a mouse because I'm used to making big sweeping arcs with my whole hand whilst using a mouse.
>>2983859>retrieve cargo>retrieval pod is only big enough for cargo, expie dies anywayThe casualties are truly... unknown
Destroying sawian corpses makes your expie unhappy and sick.Killing a trader makes your expie VERY unhappy and sick.Destroying that dead trader's corpse does NOT effect your mood or sickness at all, however, and yields like 4 chunks of meat, nice!So if you kill a trader, be sure to turn their flesh into fat/soup/soap/disinfectant! You won't let their deaths be in vain, will you? You won't let their corpses go to waste either, right? Their flesh can be turned into hundreds of milliliters of disinfectant which can and will save your life later on.
>>2983916>Casualties: Unknown Together>C:UnT
Do not ever allow yourself to be deceived by an experiment's physical appearance and demeanor. They may be scrawny and meek, but a single scratch from their sharp claws and deceptively powerful muscles can inflict up to 200 milliliters a minute of blood loss.Have you ever had that much blood pouring out of you a minute? Imagine being able to fill a small cup with your blood every minute. And that's from just a single scratch.I'm sure you can imagine how lethal even just a few good scratches can be. Ever lost half a liter of blood a minute? I genuinely hope not. And if you never want to find out what that's like, never underestimate an experiment's danger. Or any other sawian, for that matter.Dunes can and will dismember you limb from limb. Enough said.
>>2983963if we had more australians i could almost see skipping out on /cum/ for /cunt/, good one anon>>2983954>retrieve cargo>scan the barcode on the return pod>leave the cargo out and sit your expie butt in the pod insteadwould this work?
>>2983916>/cut/That's amusing because expies cut themselves.>>2983963KEK this game produces the best acronyms, I love it.

You retain recipes you've learned from blueprints, even after being mindwiped. You can become mindwiped and still know how to make mini laser drills perfectly, if you learned their recipe from a blueprint.>>2984019Exactly. Imagine being pounced on by an expie that wants you dead. It will get at minimum a few swipes in before security pulls it off of you. All it takes is a single good hit on your neck from those razor sharp claws powered by dense muscles to tear out your carotid and/or jugular blood vessels and it's over.
>>2984104Crazy that expies can frankly easily survive taking a landmine to the face but a human would almost certainly die. bleeding from different parts of the body is all entirely the same is what i'm saying.>You retain recipes you've learned from blueprints, even after being mindwiped.that's pretty neat, shame you probably dont have good recipes unlocked if you ended up in such a dire state you look towards mindwipe though. and the mindwipe play experience is so...sad? yeah, sad. no music, no swearing dog, grayscale world...
Cum should stay. Its funny
>>2984116>mindwipe play experience is so...sadTrue. But becoming the Gay Planet's first mass-murderer and serial killer by killing and devouring all traders on sight and stealing their massive piles of loot is an upside.
>>2984116Expies are far more physically durable/stronger then humans but psychologically weakerIf you want to manipulate a expie, brute force may seem like the answer but if that expie ever grow a pair and fight back then say goodbye, you gotta manipulate them psychologically/
>>2984116No music when mindwiped is easily the worst part. Makes the whole setting completely unnerving. if there's one change I wish they'd make, it's to let music continue playing even in mindwipe
>>2984160>Makes the whole setting completely unnervingIsn't that the point? Life as a soulless husk isn't supposed to be pleasant.
>>2984206>Life as a soulless husk isn't supposed to be pleasant.Eh, it ain't so bad. Checks clear every two weeks.
>>2984116I once got eaten by an elder thornback on the crafting menu while playing through the jungle mindwiped. No audio indication whatsoever that it was near me, pretty surreal. And your death when playing in that state is something so void and nihilistic. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but not hearing the usual dying SFX (or anything at all) during your expie's last moments makes things really feel meaningless. I hope i don't have to use mindwipe again.>>2984160No, it's perfect for conveying the intended atmosphere of being literally dead inside. Music makes you feel emotions, and you have no emotions. In fact i'd even go a step further and remove the whimpering too if it was up to me, to be honest.By the way, has anyone ever tried using the MP3 player while mindwiped? Does it work?
>>2984138If I remember correctly the dev has said that expies are more dense and durable than us but weaker. He stated that if an expie fought a human the human would probably win but it'd be a close thing. He also stated that most expies are far to cowardly for such a thing and could be subdued be a sufficiently mean look.
>>2984234Just tested it in sandbox and the mp3 player seems to still work, you can hear its music even with hearing loss and hollow

Eventually they inevitably come to "that age", and the bond that was already unbreakable becomes transcendental of all barriers. No one has ever loved anyone so much as this little boy loves his expie. And the expie his human. An often heartwarming, often tearjerking, often outright heartmelting story of a forbidden -- Friendship? Love? It doesn't really matter. Then of course the tragedy with the fact that Expie is doomed to die by his flawed biology, and will inevitably become but a memory of a good friend that once was.

Get away!>I presist, trying to shoo everyone away>I'm not sure why>it just feels unfair to treat someone like this>and her face is cute>and her blonde fur looks so soft>and when I look at her like this there is a weird feeling in my stomach>>Whatcha gonna do, dicklet?>the guy laughs again, and drags his nutsack around on the girl's face>she frowns but doesn't wake>I step further in to stop him, but trying to move around the bodies and girl and the toys around and the everything else is just very hard!>suddenly someone from behind pushes me and I very nearly lose balance>everyone laughs, and more of them begin pushing>I claw back in defense>I may not look like it, but I know how to fight>my victim yells out and the crowd around me disperses>in the swirling of bodies I myself am pushed around too, until ultimately my back hits another, rather solid body>>Told you to watch it! Now you...>but he can't finish, I spin around and uppercut his jaw>our limbs tangle and we both fall to the ground, him on his back on some playing bricks, me forward but trying not to fall onto the girl>she's between my legs now, I think>looking back, I see my crotch is about on her face, so ostensibly I'm doing the exact same thing to her that bully did>except I'm not on purpose!>>Ow! Ow! Ow! Ouch!>that bully's not so tough now either, with a back full of those sharp things>in a few seconds, it's just us there, with the crowd dispersed and watching from a distance>he retreats too, shooting me just a hurt, vengeful look2/?>>2984963Reading this isn't an option. Everyone must see and despair.
