People will tell you anything you need to know for parties if you let them know it's your first time on that job, or even the game.

Yeah, RDM is fine to learn the game on. It can branch out to more complex gear set swaps down the road (especially for soloing), but early on it's just debuff mob and secondary healer. You won't be meleeing or doing many nukes in parties outside of magic burst. At higher levels in parties, you'll be keeping a haste and refresh rotation that can be pretty boring, in my opinion. But it's a lot of fun doing solo things when you get to melee with sword and enspells. Level 14 is nothing, though. There's a ton more to see.

This is nice to have at hand. Don't bother with the mouse. This is a two hands on the keyboard type of game. You can also play with the controller which works quite well though gets a bit cumbersome once you have more skills but there's addons for that if you end up preferring controller.

RDM is fine if you recognize that you'll be doing the healer role. The versatility is a scam. This is not like WoW where you can spec to do different things. Jobs basically have a single role in the party. However it's a great job to have levelled up since it gets some really nice utility spells that help you travel. What are the top tier jobs of the Nov 19 2007 patch? I know RNG fucks shit up 55+ on birds. Same with DRG. I had DRK 75 before ToAU so I have no idea how the PT experience is for that. WAR was good on imps. I never had a problem getting PTs as SAM. No clue for any of the mage jobs. Obviously BRD and COR are always wanted.

Phoenix is not radical enough to be considered true ERA. Only people switching from Horizon are gonna be the banned ones or unhappy with their Samurai. Pop HNMs are cringe and it's going to turn the server into a seal farm simulator. As is stands now, there's not a substantial difference between Phoenix and Horizon. Call me when a true era server comes out and I'll consider it.
