Forgot to add, game access package locking is happening.
Your SC/S42 package will become unmeltable and ungiftable, you have the option to change this until the end of the month (October).

Thanks for the new bread and throwing the links back in, and to that, I'd like to just to throw in some more recent news related info:

>Game access package FAQ:

>Aurora Mk1 Retirement (Went into effect Sept 30th):
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/1/thread/rsi-aurora-mk-i-retirement-reminder/
What this essentially means is:
>The Aurora Mk I will be removed from the Pledge Store.
>Any unretrieved standalone ships, upgrades, or CCUs specifically involving the Aurora Mk I in your Buy Back queue will no longer be retrievable after the retirement date.

This shitty "sun setting" saga CIG have going on is looking like it'll happen again very soon with the upcoming Constellation Mk2 (5).

>Liberator will likely make IAE
It won't, confirmed as much by CIG, and the fact that it's only just left greybox pending final gate review will take more time than they can squeeze in from now till IAE, but they are still on track for the Galaxy; it's just that from the recent monthly reports, It'll be cutting it close (not like CIG gives a fuck on the state their JPEGs release in).

>Someone made an offline SC mod and it got taken down
There does still exist an actively developed "sc offline" project that's up on GitHub now, headed by greifernet, after the previous maintainers didn't want to deal with potential headaches from CIG's legal team. I don't trust that a CIG employee (or wannabe) lurks in the threads, so I'll refrain from posting the link for the sake of the project.
>>
>>3037386
>It won't, confirmed as much by CIG
It will make IAE but it might only be an exterior view of it like what happened with the Polaris. Alternatively it might get a full model display but won't be available for sale until the finale sale so they can squeeze out an extra 2 weeks of development on it.

>>
>>3037680
I may as well put bets on the new connie.
My guess is modular like the aurora.
You'll have cargo which has a huge cargo bay and the ability to carry the new auxiliia just to fuck with asgard owners.
Problematic huge guns will remain and infact there will be more firepower to the pilot.
Size 1 missiles become size 3.
Military upgrade that gives you bombs, extra shields and another turret.
Ship is basically invincible.
Oh and it's slightly less than the current connie and only on warbond so the only way to get it is with new money and it's like a penny cheaper than the other big medium ships so you have to just straight buy it.
Or it's 350 dollars with another 100 dollars for the modules.
>>
>>3037845
>Or it's 350 dollars with another 100 dollars for the modules.
Na, its gonna be less to fuck over anyone who would want to CCU. That's the CIG way.

I have that concierge monocle and tophat package with includes both SC and SQ42. There's a couple ships I don't want to melt because they're my favorites (Carrack, Warlock) and a couple I literally can't melt because they're CCUed freebies, or got a bonkers deal on CCU chain but aside from that, I'm not giving CIG another dollar ever. I already regret how much I've spent, and if I figured I could make it work, I'd sell a handful of ships just to be rid of them and get a couple hundred back in my pocket. That said, there's a few ships that are just for melting/shuffling store credits to fuck around with.

The consensus is that they removed the Connie from 4.10.1 because of the gold standard update, along with the Mk2 (and its new snub) in patch 4.10.2, but for the life of me, I can't understand why they went about it like this. sunsetting, as in the original connie is getting a coat of paint to be a minimum viable ship in the modern game and they are releasing a brand new version for cash. they just did this with the aurora, as you may remember they also did with the hornet long ago.
>>
>>3041644
>minimum viable ship
what do you mean by this dammit
>>
>>3041653
it won't be any worse than it is now, they're just going to add a few features it's lacking as a consequence of predating them, like a proper engineering panel probably maybe, weapon racks, maybe a suit locker if you're lucky. the aurora only got 1 of those 3 but it's a single seater starter. most likely they'll also shill an EX version of the mark 1 ship that's just better in every way than the variants, they did that with the aurora as well.
>>
>>3041693
are there any other ships at around the value ~$300 that are better than the constellation aquila even likely after the rework? i guess id want something thats good for general purposes but id be open to anything, the problem is i just get to use 1 buyback token per year

i have buybacks for a 400i, an ares inferno, aegis eclipse, oooh and a starrunner, a corsair, retaliator base, argo mole

but im just a solo player for now and idk if thats gonna change, maybe 1 other person will join me but maybe not or maybe ill find a few people to play with i have no idea
>>
>>3041759
No. Connie is the best ship at it's size in the game because CR wanted it to be overpowered. Biggest guns, most missiles, most armor all for it's size. The only part it really suffers at is cargo space where the Asgard and Corsair beat it out.
>>
>>3041782
>cargo space where the Asgard and Corsair beat it out.
For now at least. I wouldn't put it past that egotistical faggot to make it hold more than the asgard.
>>
>>3041759
idk what the corsair goes for but it's layout and I believe guns are better (this is almost universally true of newer ships because the ship teams have improved and the balance team has gotten worse, so everything is powercrept)
>>
Since everyone's talking about the connie so much; how's it for solo piloting, anyway? In terms of combat, how's it compare to the corsair? I've been considering what ship I want to buy in-game for my next size up after the Shiv.

I like the idea of the Andromeda's snub fighter, but how does swapping it with a customized P-72 work in the current insurance system? Does it properly save so long as you use the insured loadout? Can you hug the ground in it to avoid turrets? It's really fucking annoying to have to load a new Pulse or something onto every ship whenever I head out.

The old connie is terrible because a couple of missiles will auto down your ship. The hope is gold standard means this won't happen anymore but who knows.
If that didn't happen it would be fine. It's extremely sluggish though. Very high pilot firepower. Low cargo for it's size. Lots of missiles.

New connie can carry ballista's and nova tanks. Asgard is dead.
>>
>>3042557
It's also the size and handles like a starlancer.
>>
>>3042239
Probably the best nerf to the connie. It's a size bigger than it was. Meaning it competes with the starlancer, perseus and other large ships. Which in itself makes it very underpowered.
>>
>>3042909
Maybe vs. the Perseus, but it's more versatile, with serious cargo and vehicle capacity (it fits a Nova and I think Atlas chassis vehicles) and apparently the Aquila will have a T3 med bed. I think it hands down beats the Starlancer, 600i, and anything else in the direct size class though, with quad S5s for the pilot and otherwise equal or better in other features, and you don't have to give up cargo capacity like you do with the TAC or whatever.
>>
>>3042933
I think a nova MAYBE. But it won't fit a ballista I think. The cargo is too short and narrow.
Also in the large range quad size 5's are actually very underpowered. TAC I feel also handles better which is crazy to say.
I don't think it's a great ship. The cargo is too small for it's size. The firepower is on the low side and it's unbelievably sluggish.
Also size 3 missiles only isn't great.
I'd rather have the old connie.
>>
Has this game stopped being shit yet?
>>
>>3042989
Fuck no it's even more shit than before.
>>
>>3043008
Damn
>>
>>3042949
People have supposedly already put the Nova and at least some Atlas chassis in there but I haven't seen pics/video yet. I'd think maybe height would be the issue for the Ballista and whatever the gun turret one is called. It holds 240SCU, I think that's pretty great for a ship in this size class that isn't a dedicated hauler with little else to offer.
>>
>>3043110
Nova's main issue is height because of the turret. For the ballista chassis it's length and width. Because the doors open to the sides with ramps. I'll wait and see for the ballista but I would be surprised.
240scu is great. But it has less firepower than the corsair which is smaller and less cargo than the asgard which is also smaller. Hell it's plain worse than the starlancer I think in stats. If it was still medium size it would be amazing but to fit all the roleplay shit in it's just very large and unwieldy.
It's even worse than it's size 5's are pilot controlled because bringing them to bear on anything smaller than you are is going to be a pain with the turn rate.
>>
>>3042557
i prefer my asgard though
>>
>>3043129
Foxyloxy confirmed on stream a minute ago that every ground vehicle in the game fits in it.
I think the firepower is a wash against the Corsair in the current meta. Lack of maneuverability is a downside but for what it's worth it does have much better turrets than other stuff in the class and I can see it having a niche for things like Vanduul Tech and TSG where you're gonna have multiple people for the FPS part anyway, and have to deal with a bunch of fighters. 3 guys in a Perseus and 3-4 in a Connie would be pretty cool for TSG, and it'll fit in the hangar while having plenty of room to haul the loot.
Do we know if it'll fit in a medium hangar? That'd make it really attractive for things like the aforementioned VTS but I'm guessing it's "large."
>>
>>3043525
No it's large hanger only. It's very very big.
>>
>>3043525
Ability to carry the auxillia is good. That gives it a nice t2 medbed. It's definitely multicrew focused. But there's no reason you'd ever use it over a corsair or perseus. Heck if I want to take an auxillia I'll use an asgard and be half the size.
>>
>>3043530
Yeah I figured. That's a shame, would have been nice if it was a "mediummax" ship.

>>3043537
Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about the Auxilia. That also means it should carry a future Atlas-based base building vehicle as well.
>>
>>3043559
Another thing to remember is this thing is likely going to be 400+ bucks.
>>
>>3043559
>mediummax
No it's very square in the large ship size.
>future basebuilding vehicle
Which again makes it arguably worse than the asgard. This thing is gigantic and it's layout makes loading and unloading very difficult.
After doing a few contracts it's landing feet and cargo bay make it horrible to do cargo missions or to get vehicles on board.
Asgard feels a million times better and can do everything the new connie can do with vehicles.
It's actually very underwhelming.
Unless you have 2-3 friends.
But then you'd probably be in a perseus.

On all multi crew ships, the turrets should have the huge fucking guns while the pilot has jack shit or a tickler. That’s why the Perseus works; people want to crew the turrets to fuck shit up. If the Tiburon had fucking beam weapon turrets and a dinky 1/2 canon for the pilot, we’d see those motherfuckers all over the verse. Use the carrot, not the stick. CIG are really some dumb bastards. It’s fun to crew the Asgards turret because it fucking has 4 size four Gatling guns. If my Cutty black had its two size three weapons for pilot and four size threes on the turret, or something even better, people would wanna crew it. Look at the Scorpius. It’s a beast if you man the turret. Hell, take some of the pilot hard points away and make the turret even more powerful! That’s how you get multi crew attractive. Let the solo ships be solo ships and have limited dps but let the fucking multi crews EAT as long as they have multiple players in em! Hell, the Vanguard Warden would FUCK if the pilot had the missiles and the four size two nose guns and the roof turret had two size fives on it. Dumb bastards.
>>
>>3043577
Probably around that for the Aquila. I'm guessing Taurus somewhere just under 300 and Centaurus in the low-mid 3s.

>>3043587
Sadly I found out people were sorta full of shit about the Atlas chassis anyway. They fit on the elevator but don't go up so the way it "can carry them" is by locking the elevator down with the engineering terminal, which IMO is bullshit that doesn't count. The Nova does fit though.

>>3043857
I agree but people would have had a meltdown if it lost pilot firepower compared to the MkIV. As it stands I think it's a good entry in the 600i/Starlancer class but nothing world shattering. I've got stuff I can melt/CCU so I'll get one (probably the Aquila since I have a Paladin I never use) but I'll have to fly it for a while before I decide how it compares to the TAC and which of the two I want to keep. (Or both, there's nothing else under $400 that I really want and don't already have.)
>>
>>3043587
also fwiw I admittedly haven't messed with it yet but I can't imagine the cargo being much worse to load than the Starlancer, which is clunky as fuck, and is really its only competition at the moment.

Is this solely just to sell more SQ42 because people can't be gifted them via old packages anymore?
>>
>>3045250
Oh, nvm, read their FAQ, and it's only 1 pledge that is locked, all the extra ones are still able to be melted and gifted.

the main issue is that the cargo on the new connie is a lift. So it comes down from the very high lifted main body. If anything is underneath it you can tip the whole ship over. Even a bush. Uneven ground is a real pain as well. I've had this thing tip over a couple of times.
The starlancer and asgards have ramps which are much easier to get vehicles onto even on uneven ground or around bushes. I think getting a vehicle on this thing is going to be a task.
Also for loading and unloading the massive landing feet block either side of the cargo lift. So you can only really load from the front or back making loading a chore.
There are some real issues with the design.
>>
>>3044285
>Probably around that for the Aquila. I'm guessing Taurus somewhere just under 300 and Centaurus in the low-mid 3s.
I doubt any of them are going to be cheaper than a starlancer.
>>
By the way the new constellation CANNOT fit the ballista.
Can fit a nova tank.
>>
>>3045354
extend the landing gear and add a ramp that unfolds from the lift
kek
>>
>>3046117
It really doesn't need to be so high up. The ship itself is extremely high from the ground for no reason.
We'll see if the taurus fixes some issues but I don't think it will.
>>
>>3045354
The Starlancer MAX is even worse for the elevator cargo issue, it's got a rear bay with a ramp AND two separate elevators on opposite sides, and there's barely enough vertical clearance to move boxes onto them too. At least you can just back the MkV up to a cargo elevator and shoot stuff right in and out. Ramps can be a problem of their own on uneven ground too, lots of situations where they either end up in the air or lift the back of the ship up.

The Asgard is probably still the better vehicle hauler and easier to put cargo in, but it doesn't have the firepower or insane armor of the MkV, it carries 60 SCU less, and it's probably more expensive than the cheaper MkV variants will be.

>>3045357
The Starlancer MAX is $250. The TAC is $375 but it's got dropship tax.

>>3045742
Yeah, I mentioned that in an earlier post. I got misled by Foxy on stream, he said "it fits every vehicle" but later clarified that the Ballista etc. only "fit" with the elevator locked down.
>>
>>3046122
It's hard to even know what the Taurus will even be, datamines show all 3 known variants (Centaurus, Taurus, and Aquila) having the same 240 SCU and the mined description text gives no indication of differences between the Cent. and Taurus either, unlike the Aquila where there's mention of a T3 med bed and private crew rooms. (No clue where the hell those are gonna fit.) I'm guessing that might all be placeholder stuff but we probably won't know until IAE.
>>
>>3046140
>The Starlancer MAX is even worse for the elevator cargo issue
The max is better. The legs on the centaurus hide the cargo elevator from both sides making it awkward. Max isn't difficult to unload at all.
Ramps are miles better than the cargo elevator because uneven surfaces don't tip the ship over. On the centaurus if you pull the elevator down you can literally tip the ship over. It's a bad design.
>doesn't have the firepower or insane armor of the MkV
It is half the size and in the medium ship class. The armor is good for a medium ship and it can carry more than the centaurus can. Especially since off grid the asgard can carry close to 400scu. The centaurus isn't going to be carrying much more than 240.
>MAX is $250. The TAC is $375
This is almost certainly going to be $350 and up. I'd say closer to $400 if not over. It has far more armor than the starlancer with a size 3 radar.
People expecting this to be so cheap I think will be disappointed but we'll see.
>>3046145
I think the Taurus is fairly simple. It will extend the cargo bay and change the bottom turret for a tractor.
>>
>>3046159
I'm just going off of past price increases (MK2s, concept to flyable, or post-rework) as well as the SL's price since it's the only close competitor. The Taurus may well not have the crazy armor either, though it doesn't make as much of a difference as it seems (the M5A is basically the only gun in the game that'll pen a Starlancer MAX but not a Connie MkV, despite the huge difference in armor numbers) and that might help with a lower price too.

>>
>>3050106
In 2024, some noticed CIG licensed the name "soulsinger," and it was something they had until December that year to announce a project using the name, which they didn't. Around the same time, some journalist with a chip on his shoulder regarding Chris interviewed a former CIG employee and decided to make up some random bullshit in his article, stating CIG was working on a secret "medieval" themed project under wraps.

People freaked out and ran wild with speculation that CIG was wasting resources on this secret 3rd non-scifi project, which was were the trademark "soulsinger", supposedly also headed up by Tony Z, but it's been 2 years and nothing remotely hinting that has ever surfaced.

I cant find evidence of them ever saying it from these past couple of days as >>3050060 pointed out.

Foveated rendering has existed longer than the steam frame.
Regardless, it's a VR technology. If you're not playing in VR, it doesn't matter.
If you are playing in VR, you won't benefit from it unless you have a VR headset with eye tracking. And if you don't know what the tech is, I'm going to assume you don't have one that can do it, or a headset at all.

Yeah, no shit they want more. More actual gameplay rather than this moviegame faggotry by (((Hollywood))) rejects. Faggots try to strawman and pretend people doompost about upcoming games out of some sort of ill intent rather than just being realistic about every AAA over-developed movieslop being fucking garbage.

Absolutely nothing they've done so far actually inspires any confidence. It's called fucking pattern recognition. By all means, I'd fucking love to be wrong and if upcoming games turned out to be good, but every single time it just turns out to be (((marketing)))'s empty promises before they serve you a plate of bullshit. All the industry budgets are going toward graphics, mo-cap, nepotistic kickbacks to (((consultants))) and other movie-adjacent slop; nobody hires actual human (as in, non-subhuman) coders, writers, or designers anymore.

Since you mention fishing, I think that another cool idea with Malestrom eventually coming and including tree destruction, would be a logging ship or ground vehicle. Maybe that's just because I live in an old logging town surrounded by artifacts from those days though.

What gives the most profit in the shortest ammount of time in space? Finish combat missions and loot everything of value or level salvage missions but instead of scrapping/munching you just load all the shit you find from big targets (cargo, components, guns) then destroy the ship. Also whats the cheapest ship with enough cargo to haul said big targets like caterpillars and C2 (the whole thing, trash included)? Do you need something like a Hull B or will the Argo orange turd suffice?
>>
>>3052369
I think farming the higher level gilly/gauntlet missions is the peak aUEC/hr. Don't bother with loot at all, just keep chaining more missions together.

As of a couple patches ago, Pyro cargo hauling was also insanely profitable but the grind to get out of the shit tiers is rough and I've heard it's hard to get the good missions unless you luck into an empty server. I made millions in a few hours with a Railen back when it was new.

is it worth trying to have players man a turret and snub fighter on my aquila when they could be flying their own ships even if theyre small cheap ones like a titan or something?

is it hard to hit anything with the turret still because I remember that being a problem way back

I havent played this in so long but starting to get back into it

also would it be worth getting a size 5 gatling or some kind of fast rate of fire ballistic weapon or two to replace some m7a laser cannons or should I get something else? should I upgrade something besides weapons first?
>>
>>3054925
Snubs are legitimately worthless, they added damage gating with a flat damage reduction. size one guns can't damage anything besides size 1 ships, IE snub vs snub.
As such, no, gatling is also shit. Lots of small damage hits with -X damage each eats away at their overall DPS vs huge damage hits from cannons that get the exact same -X damage reduction.
>>
>>3054917
Yeah you'll never hit anything smaller than yourself. But you're also invincible to anything smaller than yourself.

>>3054925
>is it worth trying to have players man a turret and snub fighter on my aquila when they could be flying their own ships even if theyre small cheap ones like a titan or something?
No.
Multicrew is for roleplaying unless you're in a perseus or paladin.
>>
>>3054950
I was able to kill a small ship or two with my merlin im pretty sure and they weren't snub, I think it was those racing ships

the hard part seemed to be getting the shield down, which is the easy part with the Connie, the problem is the npcs then start evading the Connie when their shields are down and it seemed like it could help a lot even if mostly to throw off the ai and make them switch to evading the snub fighter so I could get my nose back on them.
>>3054963
well I killed a dozen or two small ships so far in a few hours. the racing ships are the ones that are really fuckin hard to hit
>>
>>3054976
You killed a dozen or so NPC ships. Let's be clear. You're not hitting a player in something smaller than you in the new centaurus. Personally if I was in a PVP situation or even PVE I'd much rather be in the mk4.

>>3054965
you guys are making me want to use my buyback token on an area inferno or maybe aegis harbinger

>>
>>3054993
The best solo is probably a corsair or asgard. You can fight and carry cargo reasonably well with the asgard being especially small compared to others in this class.
Personally I'd hold fire until the mkV taurus is revealed. I suspect the snub and rear will be exchanged for a large cargo area and the bottom turret for a tractor. This will be significantly better than both for solo play seeing as it will probably be able to carry 300+ SCU.
>>
>>3054983
i am using an mk4, aquila
I should have specified
and im not really concerned with pvp
but aiming with this desync is really shit. I guess some anon above made it sound like this latest patch for the Connies introduced a ton more desync? this crap was a big reason I quit years ago because the space combat in the space combat game was so difficult just from lag. I point at the lead indicator and suddenly his trajectory changes and I miss. over and over. but I still want to play becuase they seem to have added and improved so much

BTW when do buyback tokens refresh? i remember it being a specific time of year
>>
>>3054999
Oh you're new or returning. Desync has been a thing for a long time now and is not going away. Don't let people fool you. Server has an effect on it but it's built into the engine. It's not going to change.
>>
>>3055005
yeah I figured but anon said it was worse with this new patch. its not always that bad but having a big slow ship with slow rate of fire weapons makes it worse than it has to be
maybe ill get repeaters
>>
>>3055028
I wouldn't say worse. Usually there is a period before desync is unmanageable. That period just seems to be shorter after server resets recently. But it's the same level of desync.
Don't get repeaters you won't be able to damage anything. You should read up on armor changes. Get deadbolts or M laser cannons. Anything else is not worth using as you will not be able to damage ships medium size or larger.

No the last wipe happened because there was rampant duping and money exploitation going on. They said they don't want to do any wipes before 1.0 however because of mass inflation they would be wiping in 4.7 after plugging a lot of dupe exploits.
If there are no further major duping exploits there will likely not be another wipe before release.

when a new loop is released they tend to overcompensate on mission payouts to get people to stress test them, then a month or two after they'll dumpster the payouts to the "intended" amount. Currently the Refueling mission payouts have been corrected to the normal amounts and what you see is what you get. It's pretty much not worth doing unless you have a pledged starfarer and want functionally no risk small payouts. You'll basically never buy refueling ships ingame because they're so expensive and the loop payout is extremely tiny.

Is CIGs intention to actually release computer blades in the future that allow you to slave turrets to the pilot based on whatever computer capacity/weapon sizes the ship has? For example: a hurricane cannot slave its big turret but a cutlass might get a couple of fixed S3s or maybe gimbal S2s on top.
Also how likely is a Freelancer MK2?

No, AI computer blades are basically a holdover until NPC crew which isn't a 1.0 feature
There is at least a gold standard pass coming for the Freelancer, it will have an updated model for S42 since it has a role. If its getting a Mk2 then it'd be around the time that update makes its way into the PU.

Do not take conversations from the past for anything. They mean nothing. CIG have constantly gone back on promises and will continue to do so.

I'm a caveman backer from 2013 and haven't really kept up since, but is the Auroa Mk I LN a good starter ship for someone if it has LTI on it, or should I look into upgrading to like a Cutlass someday? Is LTI even that big of a deal these days when getting a ship, or is it more of a sales tactic to push FOMO on people?

I was interested in the Cutlass Black in the past for piracy back in like... 2015, and later on they talked about the Endeavor and how you could set it up as a floating hospital or even do illegal modifications and make drugs or something deep in space, but I did some research the other day and seems that one won't be ready for a long time as it's likely one of the last ships they'll make? Any kind of ship recommendations would be fun to read about.
>>
>>3062896
Aurora Mk1 is...ok as a starter; nothing's really elevated it all these years. I wouldn't recommend spending any money in the pit of SC, but if you are more than happy to, then Cutlass would be my CCU from the Aurora for sure.

>Is LTI even that big of a deal these days when getting a ship, or is it more of a sales tactic to push FOMO on people?
Not so much anymore since the introduction of 10-year insurance on all ships sold during Invictus (a yearly sale like IAE, but only for combat-focused ships) from 2020 onwards, LTI's relevancy dipped, not to mention the greymarket has been all but neutered by CIG at every turn recently.

>Any kind of ship recommendations would be fun to read about.
Since you are a 2013 backer, you are just in time to witness the Constellation if it was made in 2026 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J50E-5cOh4I

Otherwise, I struggle to find much interest in ships nowadays that CIG has adopted the mantra of rushing out brand new, powercrept ships at least once a month, while not sparing any bandwidth to fix whatever bugs they come with, no less the older stuff. Now, with older ships getting "retired," like your Aurora and now the Constellation, it's really set a bad precedent and a continuing nosedive for CIG's reputation. Though, RSI and Drake's style has come a very long way, so whenever you get the chance I'd say those are worth atleast a tour during the next big event like IAE.

Have you atleast kept up with Sq42 updates? Thats more the rage right now than anything PU related.
>>
>>3062916
*The 10 year insurance is present in both Invictus and IAE sales, and Invictus is held every May.

I almost forgot, if you wanted to read about something interesting ship related, then let me introduce you to the last trick up CIG's sleeve from the 17 million dollar backer reward: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/21133-Anvil-Odin
While CIG has fully abandoned pipe dream concept art sales since 2025, you may find enjoyment in gleaming over this from either the sheer ridiculousness of it all, the minimum crew of 30, or its price tag of $5000.
>>
>>3062896
I would recommend against spending any additional money, instead I'd recommend you ask in global chat for someone to let you borrow the specific ship that you're interested in. Many people have more ships than they can even fly so they collect dust in their hangars and they're more than happy to just hand them out to anyone willing to fly to them for pickup. Just make sure you ask them to bind and use the "Unlock all doors" hotkey so that you can store it in your instanced hangar and retrieve it as needed. If they don't use that specific hotkey command then you wont be able to enter the ship since the doors will be locked since you're not the owner.
If you absolutely need a better starter ship, Ccu for the Avenger Stalker which will inherit your Aurora LTI. If you're really really committed to the game then sure, CCU to a cutlass black but you honestly can just bum ships off of whales so there's no point spending more money.

>>3062942

I haven't really kept up with Sq42 stuff outside of just a couple of days ago getting notified it's coming to Steam in the next 6-8 months. The last I really remember about it is that it was going to be a big cinematic and give players rewards that would carry over to the online component as a bit of a head start.

Beyond that, I'm surprised they're giving up on older ships, since some of them seem pretty solid at the roles they were made to fill. I did notice on the shop that most ships are not available for sale, so I figured when they do one of their conventions or something I recall in the past, they'd bring them back for a limited time, but sounds like that isn't the case.

Believe it or not, I actually fell for a legit MMO scam with Stars Reach from Raph Koster trying to cash in on his Star Wars Galaxies nostalgia to push a space MMO, so I'm pretty open to looking at Star Citizen now that it's had like 14 years to cook and I've finally got hardware that can likely run it steady.

>>3062952
I'll keep that in mind about just asking others to take ships for a spin. Last time I played, they did wipes regularly, so I guess that isn't the case now, or it's just easy to grind ships ingame?

Just buy what you want in-game, join crews for group missions.

Per 2024 they outlined a reduced/expanded scope that will be the requirements for 1.0, all non-1.0 stuff is planned for after 1.0, specifically NPC crew and some of the ships with one-off gameplay like the Orion, Endeavor, and Starliner.

>>3062942
That ship will look even more insane once the Javelin and Kraken are in and people can realize just how ridiculous that concept is.
>>
>>3062957
>so I guess that isn't the case now, or it's just easy to grind ships ingame?
Wipes are maybe once a year unless something absolutely breaking occurs, they also overtune contract payouts for any new mechanics they add to encourage people to test them which allows you to amass significant amounts of wealth. Now with crafting and Wikelo there's a notable third-party trading system where you can hunt down more valuable resources and sell them to other players.
>>
>>3062961
Yeah, that sounds like a great plan to me. I don't know how powerful a crew is in this game, so I'm planning to stick to smaller ships I figure as a result so my playtime doesn't rely on trying to wrangle a group together like the old MMO days without NPC crewmates to cover missing roles.

>>3062977
Wow, I never would have suspected they add crafting to this game. That's pretty neat to learn, though since it's Chris Roberts, I'm sure it's ass-backwards and not that enjoyable somehow, right?

finding materials is rough because rn its evenly distributed randomly across planets and space
new planet tech puts many mineable rocks in obvious places like around mountains and valleys
the plan is also to allow you to refine low quality into high quality
so its half-baked in its current state because the rest of the game wasn't designed with crafting in mind to begin with
>>
>>3062991
>I'm sure it's ass-backwards and not that enjoyable somehow, right?
currently it's ass but as with everything, the full implementation sounds good. The higher the quality of the ore you mine the better the crafted product but you cannot refine your own ores yet and you can't disassemble gear to obtain resources either yet. You can craft some pretty nasty kit with very high quality ore though and assuming they untether it from being exclusively available to mining and allow you to progress through other loops it'll probably end up pretty good
We're getting two crafting vehicles at IAE this year. An Atlas platform mobile crafting vehicle with a Tier 2 medbed and an MTC platform that has a crafter onboard instead of an armory so we might see a crafting update during IAE this year.
>>
>>3063031
Not going to lie, but being a space crafter sounds pretty awesome and probably more viable than my older plans of being a space hoodlum just because they had it as an option in an era where games are shying away from PVP and griefing in general. I'm guessing this IAE happens around the holidays or something since you said this year?
>>
>>3062896
Optimal is to just have the pledge, join an org and make the money to buy any ship ingame with the help of orgmates.

There are way more ships in star citizen community than players to man them.

Hoodluming has been made almost pointless in Star Citizen, despite CIG saying they support it. PvP in general is not particularly profitable.
Crafting right now is painful, gets wiped often.. the crafted goods are marginally better.. there is no internal player market.
But in general, play as you like. If this game has pvp/combat and industry as viable gameplay (whenever the game is playable) - both the current scg orgs are liable to support it.

IAE is roughly 30 days from today. We actually got a dedicated Space Hoodlum crafting ship earlier this year https://starcitizen.tools/Clipper though currently the crafter doesn't work as no ship based crafting stations function, only the dedicated crafting stations you call up in your freight elevator function. I'm expecting the Clipper to get its crafter enabled during IAE since we're getting two dedicated crafting vehicles which I'd hope have functional crafters and aren't just inert placeholders but know CGI...

>>3063059
We are getting a new alien ship at IAE, the Gatac Hyun. Don't remember if anything has been datamined for its purpose though. Might be a mining/salvaging variant of the Syulen.
>>
>>3063052
I kind of figured that was the case with people dropping so much into the game over the years, but how does it even work to get people into ships in the game if everyone just flatout owns them via cash? It just sounds like everyone would flood the guy with the space yacht as crew instead of wanting to grind up for smaller ships of their own in a setting like this.

>>3063080
That was my initial thought as well but It'd be kind of weird to get two ship variants in the span of 4 months since it already has the Tyilui snub carrier variant and there's several Salvaging/Mining alternatives at that size bracket. It could definitely be a refueler though it seems to me CIG is already done with the refueling loop for the next few years and probably wont see anything until we get drone support. Whereas with the Syulen it actually has a really good design for a alien starter miner/salvager due to the unique design it has which would make it pretty low effort development wise to retrofit the original.
>>
>>3063085
That's been my biggest enemy with Star Citizen over the years, since it's constantly changed as well as it feels the audience Chris has been targeting over time, based on all the ship descriptions I've come across up until about 2016ish.

>>3063088
I'll be sticking around in these threads going forward and asking questions here and there, so I really appreciate you and the other anons answering things for me. I was considering upgrading my Aurora Mk I since it has LTI for something a bit better to act as a starter ship, but hell, if I have friends, that's stronger firepower than even a credit card in these kinds of games most of the time.

My main thing is to figure out how good or bad I am at flying in this game, since I loved Elite but was horrible at piloting in it, but really enjoyed the FPS segments and would pay to get shuttled to missions due to it being an option. From there, I'll be looking into various systems and what I like and don't like, and start planning some realistic goals for myself as I'm a NEET and can dedicate extra time to grind and play later on when they stabilize the online component. Pick out a ship or two I think handles well or fits my style, grind for them later on and just have some fun in space that isn't tied to Star Wars or EVE for a change of pace.
>>
>>3063108
>but hell, if I have friends, that's stronger firepower than even a credit card in these kinds of games most of the time.
the best ship in this game is Friendship
>>
>>3063092
Syulen is great but is it too old. The ship team only likes to touch ships they made.
>>
>>3063108
>was horrible at piloting in it, but really enjoyed the FPS segments.
1. Sweaty fighter piloting requires a good controller setup or you are not going to win.
2. Plenty of pilots in the game and piloting is not that special after years of playing.
3. Most ships actually will be needing crew to turrets, maybe engineering if they ever make it matter.. other operations.
4. After CIG started selling Odin it was clear to me that any serious org doing pvp needs to have a strong boarding team focus, so fps players are more important that ships.
5. Most of the gameplay added in last 2 years is purely FPS.
>>
>>3063146
That's an interesting read, friend. What about medics? I was torn on the Cutlass Red due to it having med beds and meant to get in and out to heal people in combat as well as the Endeavor being a space hospital, so I'm not against that angle of gameplay of doing the whole support deal, since I find it fun in other games. Engineer sounds good as well to me, but seems it's not really implemented all that well.
>>
>>3063155
Medics as standalone responders is more like larp and despite claiming otherwise, CIG doesnt really support the gameplay.
Medics as a ship medic or a combat medic is not supported since everyone can heal just as well, cig has dropped the ball with the medgun and med attachment.
That said, there is a new case for dedicated medic since Super Heavy Armor cannot heal itself properly.
The scg orgs gathered SHA armors but they are slow as hell, the minigun thats the optimal weapon for it is quite close range weapon.. the SHA cant carry loot and i suppose nobody wants to force others to be healsluts... in the end i think everyone in scg orgs just defaulted back to heavy armor. CIG even released a babycarrier ATLS Ikti to carry sha players but i dont think anyone in the orgs bought it since spending (more) money in the game feels pointless.
>>
>>3063189
I guess its worth to mention there are fps pvp players on the terrorist light (asd) armor too.
>>
>>3063189
I had to look up what the ATLS Ikti is and it's wild that they have armor so heavy in this game now that you basically need the exoskeleton from Aliens 3 to get it out to the battlefield. Outside of that, sounds like it's just best to be an extra gun and hand instead of really trying to fill some role on the battlefield with how the game is setup at the moment.
>>
>>3063215
IMO its ok to larp what you wanna be. Why not, its not like CIG will ever support it but why play if not for your enjoyment.
>>
>>3063215
>>3063232
Just join scg orgs, pick a role youd want to be if its ever viable and in the meantime suffer with the rest of us (or who has the energy to play at which moment)

There is an event with permanent rewards going, which is very grindy - so people are playing.
>>
>>3063272
I'm about to start a tutorial and they're talking about a permanent residence, so any particular place I should be picking for that, or does it not really matter? The game claims it'll take about 30 minutes.

I'm also very surprised an 8GB VRAM is minimum settings for this game, considering how long it's been in development. I had to fight with the settings and wonder why my auto-detect kept defaulting to low settings until I read that it was the minimum a bit ago.
>>
>>3063277
The tutorial is shit, best way to learn is with a person teaching.
Tutorial always puts you go microtech iirc.
As for otherwise, not important where it is right now. Microtech is fine, Stanton is fine. You can change it next wipe when you know what you want.
(Eg. I have it in Nyx - Theta, since nyx has a lot of the new content and levski is very bad performance and buggy - i used to have it in pyro but pyro content is neglected and doesnt work)
>>
>>3063277
>>3063283
Also, please prepare for a buggy, janky experience where veteran players are separated from newbies first and foremost by the amount of workarounds they know. Star Citizen is easily the buggiest (playable) game ever made.

Off the top of my head
>Ship in hangar, stuck in midair or clipping
Leave the hangar, use the lobby kiosk to store and retrieve
>Unable to interact, can't exit seat, etc.
Alt+F4, restart and enter universe (character customization option is greyed out, this means the character is still in the world)
>Character is stuck
Hold backspace: respawn (may lose contents of backpack, contents left on body)
>Long interaction/inventory delay
Usually just wait, the server will snap forward, skip forward, or crash and then you have a short server recovery wait (this pauses the game until the server is back up)

Other bugs are usually ship/location specific
Like there used to be a spot where you can very easily clip out of the Perseus, and a hole in the world at a specific template of small building in outposts on Bloom
And don't forget to update your respawn location when travelling in case of death (bug or otherwise)

Auxilia is built on the Atlas chassis not to be confused with the ATLS.
It was silhouette revealed in like 2024 I think.
There will also be a variant like this for basebuilding.
Currently only a few ships can carry an auxilia. Asgard, C2 and the Ironclad for sure.
Greycat do not make space ships. They only do ground vehicles. The MFC is based on the MXC chassis. The ground vehicle with the point defense weapon on it. It will be focused entirely on crafting and be much smaller than the Auxilia. It will likely fit in many ships.

Can't be a Railen variant, there's not room for one where it's shown on the hall. At most it's probaby Cutlass or Zeus-sized.

What's so special about a Warbond that it's cheaper by like $25? It has LTI while the other has 10 years insurance and a higher price.

If I bought this, could I fit a Greycat MFC inside it for manufacturing reasons and be a cool enough dude to make friends and run content together?
>>
>>3064579
>cool enough dude to make friend
If you don't have friends already, no one is going to roleplay with you in your constellation. I can guarantee you that right now. The dreams in your head of being captain picard are not going to come true.
>>
>>3064584
I don't need to be Captain Picard as much as I just need a mommy van SUV to wheel everyone around while we do things as a crew.

Is there any downsides to flying larger ships in this game besides not being able to crew them all by yourself at this point in time? Like extra costs for fuel usage or other things?

Warbond is new cash only, no store credit
I roll around store credit on just about every ship though
You can only fly one ship at a time
>>
>>3064613
>everyone
If you don't have everyone already, you are not going to do that in an org. Someone will have a bigger and better ship and won't use yours. Unless it's a perseus, paladin or maybe a tiberon. No one's going to mommy van around because everyone has their own ship and it's easy to get from A to B than to go to whatever station you're at and get in your ship to do anything. Unless it's one of the ships above. I'd get used to that if you're new.
If you have a few noob IRL friends who want to jump in every so often and RP with you, you will have that experience you're after. Otherwise no one is going to do it.
>>

I've got 3 ships with LTI on them which prevents me from melting. Otherwise I probably would.
>>
>>3064613
>Is there any downsides to flying larger ships in this game besides not being able to crew them all by yourself
99.9% of your time in the game you are going to be doing things alone.
>>
>>3064627
Your words and the fact that even AI is telling me I'm fucking up by not picking something practical like the Cutlass Black instead for a starter ship has me rethinking all of this now and seeing the facts that I wasn't seeing before.
>>
>>3064642
There is literally no point in buying anything but the starter ship. You will have a better experience earning things in game and you won't have any sunk cost fallacy because you've dumped a couple of hundred or a thousand dollars into a game that at any time could be completely abandoned.
You can get all the good ships in game with some effort and time. There's no reason to spend money on this shit.

There are people smart enough to not have massive ships of their own, but not a lot.
As for the practicalities (of large and capital ships)
1. Bigger (and newer) ships are plain better in most cases. CIG is selling power literally.
2. I have a capital ship as a loaner, i would never dream to have every turret manned and its a waste of time anyway, most multicrew ships power plateaus after 2-3 players, biggest gain being 1-2 gunners.
3. Bigger ships have bigger costs, but right at this second (and arguably ever) it only matters for Polaris. Everything else is sustainable without effort.
4. The most useful big ships are moving bases. Eg. Polaris. They can usually do any kind of content or support doing it as a mothership. Same is true now for the Centaurus with the notable exception of no medbed.
5. To really and truly enjoy big ships, you should have a natural interest to it. Would you rather play world of warships/Rebel Galaxy or if youd rather play something more exciting like rogue squadron or elite dangerous? If you dont like watching paint dry and acting as a support, pick a medium ship or below. I guess centaurus has both large and snub so you get to experience both..
6. You need to accept that nobody in a big ship is getting massive enjoyment out of game mechanics, ships from large up are just practicalities. If you ask me, capital ships are just support for smaller ships both as an immovable object to use as cover and as a base to repair and refuel in (or hitch a ride in qt)
7. Every ship in the game will feel lonely and like a ghost town since they are all too big and group play of corresponding or really any size is not encouraged but instead penalized.

There is more but to actually stay and play with really big ships needs a specific type of person.
>>
I hate an andromeda why would I need a centaurus? it just looks fatter and more cumbersome
>>
>>3064814
I guess to be fair I should mention that Idris T-Kit has same issues with upkeep as Polaris for the same reasons.

ok so

the bay can hold more than the ursa and a single scu of cargo secured
the mk.v can hold a great deal besides just the rover relatively speaking
i was always lusting hard for some more belly room and while the taurus has it, it's also the most frail of the line by a bit, and that's not so cool with me as i want a combat craft out of a constellation at least in part even if the taurus is more than capable of it, if maybe not completely optimal. i've killed shit in one when i had it, well and including players. mk.ivs are beasts all around. the andromeda is the fucking bomb

if you are fond of how maneuverable your constellation is, i'd regard the mk.v with some hazard as it is significantly fatter and more of a target. by itself this more or less places the mk.iv well ahead in the combat game
however
the turrets on the mk.v are remote as opposed to properly manned and as we've heard alluded to as best i'm aware, thereby bladeable under ai control
big deal for me as i love that shit and even if it were only the top turret slaved to a bot by virtue of capacity limit that would rock my shit
this is actually a bit of an impinging factor if we were talking about either model being operated solo
but also, the mk.v has a bigger interior which is much more to manage in the way of traversal, unfucking, and maybe especially fire propagation. things could get ugly under one to a bigger extent than the tube innards of the IVs.

it is a small polaris for me all things considered, i melted up from an andromeda myself and there will be no looking back. actually being able to run a vehicle properly out of a bay with the rest of your shit in it is crazy fun. a nursa, at that. respawning a couple times out of the hull itself with it parked in the back if called for. the aquila mk.v is apparently slated to have an integral t3 medbed but a nursa is not a big deal in the way of something to deal with that will offer largely the same capability on the models without a bed.

I'll admit that one of the appeals of a larger ship to me is that they can be like mobile bases, hence I was looking at the Endeavor earlier in the thread since it could be a mobile science facility or even space hospital. I'm not familiar with the Polaris, so I'll peak at that later to see just what they've pushed out over the years, but I'm learning from this thread and other places that the dream of "living off the grid" so to speak in space isn't really all that well thought out in the game.

I guess part of my fascination with bigger ships is from my days playing EVE where I just loved the thought of a big old space ships cruising around just doing mundane stuff like mining and hauling like the Obelisk. I don't think I ever really shook that desire over the years.

I'm probably too autistic for my own good, but I can see some good scenarios along with all the cons of potentially having a larger ship based on what other anons are saying, so I'll look into a rental in the game and give it the old college try to see how I like it perhaps, since I'm really just trying to feel out what ship would suit me best compared to an Aurora Mk I just getting me from place to place at the moment. I also kind of have a part of me holding deep to the old dream of being like a pirate or shadier character living away from others in my own base of sorts and having people run missions and stuff as well as sending people out for supply runs now and then maybe, I don't know. It's harmless and fun to dream, but the reality is that it's not practical it seems.
>>
you can do nursa with a drive-through parking spot and both doors open without collision when seated, a bike off to the side of it with plenty of room, and still have a four by four square of cargo to do whatever you want with, more if you're willing to back the rover in and/or out.
shit is silly
>>
oh and it devours the entire bay but the mkv. seats a nova comfortably
yeah, fuck
>>
>>3064613
>Is there any downsides to flying larger ships in this game besides not being able to crew them all by yourself at this point in time? Like extra costs for fuel usage or other things?
the crew pay is split evenly
meaning the guy in your turret barely plinking anything is getting paid as much as you
and combat missions dont pay that much in the first place
i dont think its viable in even an connie pheonix when youve got your pay split at minimum 3 ways between you and two gunners. youd make more in a origin 325 doing easier missions as a solo pilot probably
i just traded in my constellation for a m80 and its fucking infinitely better doing combat. in the connie it was fucking painful that thing is not meant to shoot anything with its noseguns but big slow targets like itself
>>
i was asshurt at ciggy for ostensibly overwriting the mk.iv with this thing but it's very distinct and doesn't much tread on the toes of the former model with how cumbersome it is in comparison, concerning the swinging around of the s5s

w h o l e lot more to shoot at but it has expanded capacities in other respects
>>
>>3065700
m80 is nutso but i think i had more fun in the meteor
bit of a faster ship on the acceleration front
origin's is THE interceptor for the while, though

This anon has got me interested in seeing what the Meteor is like, since all this talk about it in the thread has piqued my interests. It's basically a good fighter ship with a living quarter for one guy, kind of like Slave I from Starwars?
>>
>>3065824
>a good fighter ship
Its a boom and zoom ship. Cant dogfight, very fast in a straight line, big dps but fuck all for HP/Armor.
>>
>>3065839
>boom and zoom
>no HP
so exactly like the buccaneer, useless and nonsensical but larger
boom and zoom planes are supposed to be tough
does chris know anything about aviation
>>
>>3065824
slave is a lot bigger of a craft, something analogous in sc doesn't yet come to mind
4milly in teasa so it's not crazy to give it a go
they marketed it as kind of a john wick ship and no lie that's kind of dead on the money in my experience. you can go fucking crazy with it. the skill ceiling might be stupid. it certainly felt that way to me.
besides that, solo operator drop craft, good amenities, armory in the floor, all short of a shower and a toilet so you'll be soiling yourself but that's just astronaut shit

>>3065839
keep with me here if u dare
primary armament, primary focus, absolutely dose LEONID cannons, holy shit. they're bangers, i'm using ballistics on an m80 anyways so what's the diff in my thinking more or less
but

underneath

quad scatterguns

and what happens is

you boom and zoom your heart out, absolutely keep up the vector fighter shit, plink away with those cannons, every shot that lands is being felt

but

where you stumble upon it

go

nuts

tanglefight with your prey for as long as you deem sane and are capable of it, blast them in the fucking face up close with your QUAD FUCKING SCATTERGUN ARRAY HOLY SHIT THESE THINGS ARE POWERFUL, maybe just once or twice, fuck it, right? and then bam zoom you're out and dodging around again because you can accelerate so fucking fast holy shit
blacking out is like, always in play besides

shit is real

i have no idea, i don't claim to be all that gud at the game but i've done some wild shit here and there and the meteor is basically the craziest ship to fly imo
>>
oh and you fire your fucking cannons into their face alongside as at the ranges you're going for they're probably going to strike as well a fair portion of the time too
