Does anyone else just not care much about mods anymore? They're all AI sloppa these days anyway

I dont actually play or care anymore.
I just check what new viewpoint addon is released and how the redditors and devs are coping with how fast and better ai modders can do better job than the devs for 15 years

You're not beating the contrarian allegations lil bro

Is cooking worth doing a run focused around? I love cooking and food but in zomboid whenever I interact with it it's just "slap all your shit into a pot"

Are there fun recipes worth pursuing? Is role playing a chef rewarding? Might give me a reason to finally fuck aroung with farming
>>
>>3072987
professions in zomboid make no sense.
>>
>>3073139
no lol
just use whatever cooking mod is being most updated at the moment
>>
>>3073139
Get vanilla foods expanded and it becomes fun. You can make so much shit. Bake lots of things. Do more with farming, the veggies have more uses like molasses from sugar beets etc
And in turn it means you can level it better
>>
>>3073141
Insects and chum are a bit weird anyway. Once you add a live one to chum, its good forever, so keep stocks of chum in a crate and add fresh insects as you forage

I'm asking because I don't want to reinstall PZ yet again just to get bored after 1-2 days. Isometric PZ just makes me wish it had more CDDA features, but first person seems like it would shake things up and make it fresh
>>
>>3073824
>I'm asking because I don't want to reinstall PZ yet again just to get bored after 1-2 days
You're going to get bored after 1-2 days with the first person mod. It doesn't shake things up that much.
>>
>>3073829
Man I really want to like PZ, but after finding a safe attic and hoarding some supplies I just get bored. At least with CDDA there's the labs to raid and projects like death mobiles or building a base for your NPC slaves to build stuff

1.) That's not what that argument was about

Drinking straight from the water source is safe even if the game tells otherwise. Its only drinking tainted water from containers that is lethal.

>Drinking straight from the water source is safe even if the game tells otherwise.
No.
>>
>>3074605
Plumbed sinks purifying water has been in the game for like a decade at this point.
It's absolutely a bug, but for some dumbass reason the devs have left it in, probably due to spaghetti code.

>>3074609
He's 90% right. Drinking from a water source gives WAY less sickness than water from a bottle for some dumbass reason.
Even with weak stomach, drinking your fill from a puddle or river/lake in a single gulp won't kill you.
>>
>>3074609
>>3074605
>>3074602
Ive played for hundreds of hours drinking safely from rivers and ponds and never got sick.
Unless it changed in some recent patch OR you have some mods you can endlessly drink from river with zero problems, only drinking from containers is lethal.
Retanaru video about it is years old but still holds true.
>>
>>3074622
Retanaru's video also shows drinking repeatedly from the river to be deadly. You have to let the (nonlethal) sickness go down first.
>>
>>3074625
No it doesnt, it shows how you literally have to be hyperthermic for days WITH traits and literally only then you can die from drinking river water.

Unless our character somehow has a fucking RO water system under the sink, the water should still be quite deadly.

Lucky/Unlucky trait didn't do nothing.
In singleplayer it gave a comically shit buff by making chances of certain items higher, and it also increased repair success rates.
In multiplayer it was nonfunctional (Maybe repair rate was better? But I don't recall) because the devs knew it'd make an issue where some retard would open a looted cupboard and find an axe.

many unfinished things like this
and pottery, thats an unfished skill. Pipe pieces have no use. There isnt anything past level 5. Agriculture is in a weird spot. Some anon mentioned maintenance; you dont need to do anything. It rains all the time through spring summer & autumn to water your crops for you, the overwatering mechanic is currently disabled. and ive yet to ever see slugs or pests, just rare mildew. Hops, hemp and tobacco are all broken due to long growth time + bad month overlap, but hops currently do nothing. I assume indoor planting with greenhouses was supposed to come back with the realistic growth times but didn't make it. but im rambling now. masonry next

I like how professions work in CDDA you can spawn as a expert and start crafting everything you know from your profession in CDDA as long as you are in a workshop, if you want to learn any other profession or need stuff you can recruit a NPC with that profession and learn from them or switch to their body and craft that stuff.

Here is a redpill for you - public/users doesnt care.
We care if the mod is cool, works fine and runs without shitting up the game, thats it.
We dont care if some autist worked on it 14hrs a day for years or if some AI coded it in an afternoon, its completely irrelevant to us.
If anything modders are too fucking primadonna about their status and lazy devs need some fire burning under their butts.

I am in a pickle. I want to make the game way harder and more dangerous to stop me getting to the midgame (runescape base craft simulator). Part of the issue I have at that stage is giving my survivor reason to leave a fully sustainable base - i even have 2 raincatchers of 1.2l of fuel on top of fish and farming.

However if I make the world more dangerous that would give less reason to ever leave

I feel this is where NPC troubles should be happening - why wouldnt a raider wanna enslave my cutie Survivor and take her oversized fenced off complex fpr themselves.

I have thought of horde mods - whats the best? Or maybe I just put loot on 0.05 and play nomad - I just dont like the RV interior mods

I had >2 weeks to the 6 month mark so I went out for animals. Thoughts?
Originally I was going to bring chickens back and hope to find sheep. How often would I need to come back to care for these? There is a chicken hutch, I can close it
I hear even 1 cow is too much milk and work for singleplayer. Worth giving them a shot or should I think of butchering?
My base is not that far away. I wouldn't mind the drive every 5~ days, but if the cows aren't worth, I have space for chickens at home
>>
>>3085473
chickens are not worth it, even without a hutch they die too easily
sheep produce little milk and some yarn, but yarn is almost useless
]the only cow that produces "too much milk" is the holstein cow, the simmental and angus cows barely produce enough for 1 butter every 2 days, meanwhile the holstein cow produces over 10L a day
>>
>>3085537
Generally I dont need any animals - but eggs would open up some fun recipes. Good to know about the cows. The 2 females are simmentals
Whats killing chickens? I think metapredators is off in my run

Then add the Terminus Faction and minor boss factions like the Claimers and Wolverines. Then Add the Big Bad Factions. Neegans faction who just throw tons of numbers at you and then the Whisperers and the Common Wealth who have advanced tech.

You can melt down random metal shit.
It makes iron/steel chunks, which you can hammer into bars and such.
But unlike IRL where you can do this with borderline caveman tier tech, you need a whole list of special items ingame.

Good news, iron ore does spawn when foraging anywhere!
Bad news, anywhere means also you can't go specifically to find it, itis rarer than fucking ammo, flat 1 chance on every area type and it's like worth an ingot/3 bars iirc, and why would you bother when you can get that from like killing 100 zeds or less, or even just foraging junk.
I've found a grand total of one (1) ore ever, and I'm a foraging junkie. It's just more shit to fuck the caveman bros, I miss you rock meta.
>>
>>3087833
I admit I haven't found a single ore, ever, in any B42 build.
>>
>>3087843
It's a shitshow, played quite a while since b42 honestly I thought it wasn't ever going to be added so I don't know which patch did it, but I remember seeing it on the wiki randomly thinking nah that's a lie and lo and behold, iron rock. Seriously just better forget about it, I've found ammo like 20 times at the very least before iron ore. Also they fucked the focus search and I'm still pissed.
>>
>>3087902
The game doesn't really tell you that focusing doesn't actually make stuff appear more often, it just applies a modifier to your search radius for specific things.
If you didn't find something while walking in the woods without a focus, you're likely not going to find it with a focus.
>>
>>3087918
Objectively fucking wrong holy shit, that's for profession and trait modifiers.
You can test it with debug, it actually has a chance to turn a thing into another thing of the focus you are using, the thing is in b41 rare stuff wouldn't ever be swapped, like say ammo or recipe mags, but in b42 it can and will swap anything so no focus might be the new way.
In fact I remember in b41 cheesing the fuck out of it since you could focus whatever and then go into and out of search mode until whatever was in front of you suddenly changed, it was nice for boxes of nails but it was patched as soon as unstable 42 dropped.
Don't come at me with that shit, I AM the foraking.

>>3088951
Well inteligent way it would be to make it run on fucking batteries.
Whats the point of making heater run on power if setting up generator already makes house have heating? Its retarded.

Then whats the fucking point of the heater? Once i set up a generator the house magically goes to 22C anyway, heater or not. And outside simple campfire is enough and unlike heater it can be used to cook shit/boil water and refueled by effectively infinite resource that is wood.
What fucking situation it would be even remotely useful to use it then? Whats the point of that mod?
Realistic or not at least old Cryo Winter heater worked on batteries and was portable so it made sense to use it.

Retard, you have it reversed. Louisville checkpoint was set up to stop people from leaving Louisville. The radio broadcasts close to the time where the checkpoint goes out talks about the military shooting people crossing the lake "now", implying lots of people left the area who were either cleared to leave or just snuck out. When Louisville checkpoint gets overwhelmed, the dead spill out into the rest of knox county. By that point the rest of the world was starting to get infected because the virus already escaped Kentucky.
>That's not what the in game world is like though!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Yes. And? Stay inside all week, or use a mod, or sandbox settings if your tisms can't handle that. Don't whine about the game being too easy if it being challenging is "unrealistic" for you.

Dream mods I want.

Vehicles can be built from individual components, repaired, modified and used as mobile bases. - My Summer Car Mod is already doing this and I'm seeing other mods take this approach.

Deeper survival simulation - Not much mods doing this yet

A world that exists without the player - Project A life is already doing this.

A more challenging late game- Enemy NPC's stay static. My thing is over time enemy bandit NPC's would get stronger maybe attack you with tanks, choppers etc, maybe add some late end game stuff to raid like Military Silos, Mega Corp headquarters etc etc

Twas a depressing stroll..
I went South from the burned farm and i got to some kind of a main road with lots of farms and pastures... All full of dead animals.
At least poor things were perfectly preserved so my food situation is bit better but now i have to build shitton of drying racks before they all spoil.
And i managed to find myself a dog so thats nice.
>>
>>3088309
Yeah but there's like no evidence of that. Every location basically in pristine condition as if everyone had simply disappeared overnight and a bunch of zombies spawned afterwards? There's a few burned houses here or there, a few car crashes but it really doesn't look like much happened at all. Highways barely full of cars.
>>
>>3089315
>Don't whine about the game being too easy
?
>>
>>3090082
I started cutting down trees trying to make a path from the road leading to the rosewood complex to the rosewood prison but gave up part of the way and just abandoned my car to walk all the way there carrying my propane generator. It was so fuckin spooky ducking necroa zombies in the woods until I was able to find a working mrap to drive the rest of the way there.
Basically I fucked up and drove into the prison complex and wound up stuck at the detached building. Some friendly bandit entities spawned and I took them with me to try and clear out at least a path out but they all ate shit and died, leading to me hiding out in the detached building again before trying to cut my way out and then like I said giving up and hoofing it. There was a full trailer (600 weight) and humvee (400 weight) full of guns, ammo, tools and other supplies I left behind.
After I restock, recoup and recover at my base I'll probably go back for it. Maybe start cutting towards where I left off. Or maybe just bring a fuckton of ammo and a tank to the prison yard and go to town, idk yet.

Welcome back, 7D2D pre-BHVR.
>>
another mechanics deep dive is up
>the higher the top speed, the more fuel efficient the car is
>while heavier cars have worse fuel efficiency, so do lighter cars - the sweetspot is a chassis mass of 1000 for the minimum multiplier on fuel cost.
>therefore a car that weighs 900 and a car that weighs 1100 has the same penalty
>Chevelier Dart and Masterson Horizon have 650 chassis, so they eat a 2.2x fuel consumption
>all combined the Chev Dart uses fuel 3.5x faster than the most fuel efficient vehicles - the Mercia Lang 4000 and the Franklin All-Terrain
>only chassis mass is used for fuel consumption - but cargo mass will affect accel and handling
>the game has unactivated code for open/missing trunks losing items while driving
>the trunk lid does not protect the trunk
>hotwiring a car does not damage its engine even when failing

>Louisville checkpoint was set up to stop people from leaving Louisville
Lmao what the fuck are you smoking?
The infection starts near Rosewood, where the army base is. Spreading upwards TOWARDS Louisville.
The undead spread into Louisville when they break the fences at the refugee camp due to gunfire being in there.
The world does not start getting infected until the virus becomes airborne shortly after the refugee camp incident.
>>
>>3091009
thats not what the radio or tv says though nigger. its also not reflected in the ingame zombie pops where except for the secret rosewood base itself, rosewood has the lowest zombie pop of all the urban zones, as opposed to lv which has the highest
>>
>>3091035
>thats not what the radio or tv says though nigger
Yes it does lmao, are you retarded?
Zombies broke INTO the camp, they didn't break OUT of the camp.

>How do I stop doing this?
Force yourself to go to other towns, or even deny usage of cars to walk to other places instead.
There's really no other way to keep interest with the game because the entire foundations are backwards and upside down.
It's a zombie game that punishes you for interacting with the zombies.
Okay so you fuck off away from the zombies.
But now it's a zombie game without zombies, sort of defeats the point, doesn't it?

Vanilla has a setting to uncap the amount of shit you can put in. And its fucking anoying to have to scroll through the list of everything flamable in your inventory to get to the logs/large branches.
There should be a drag and drop UI OR some mechanics to "favourite" certain stuff as fuel for campfire.

He's entirely correct, realism should only be used so far in a game to enhance fun, not to diminish it.
Zombies being able to be pushed over is realistic and fun. Zombies splattering you with blood when hit, infecting you is realistic and not fun. Notice they didn't put that second part in?
There's a bunch of 'realistic' bullshit ingame that isn't fun, and it should be removed and tweaked.

Zomboid insider here.

Here is the next big updates for build 43.

Expanding primitive metallurgy, detailed stone/clay crafting trees, custom shelter structures, and survival options for total wilderness playthroughs.

Optimizing low-level background processing for dynamic hordes,NPC faction, world events and multi-dimensional world loading, and subterranean level processing outside the player's immediate loading area.

Dynamic NPCs and Base Management. They had working static NPC for a while but wanted to make them dynamic.

Faction Relations update is also being worked on.

World Events. Broader integration of faction-led patrols, territorial control, and dynamic responses to local threat escalations.

Medical & Infection reworked.

Mechanical & Item Fault Expansion: Fine-tuning item-specific wear and tear, fluid contamination, and engine/part breakdowns across vehicles

Trying a wilderness run with extremely loot, but I'm struggling. Mostly because I put the temperature on very cold and had things start in mid October, so it's -6C outdoors. I'm trying to get rid of this cold and forage up what I need for knapping and getting a knife for basic crafting but it's slow going. I don't even know what I'll do about food, that's on the horizon and I've really no safe area to rest up a bit.

Nothing to redpill you on. Basements suck ass.

Oh right, basements are also random, not only in terms of what sort of basement it's going to be, but also if a house even HAS a fucking basement in the first place.
Which makes them even more useless because outside of a handful pre-placed ones, most of the time you will get the 'unfinished basement in construction' selection or 'single toolbox' basement.
I still have never found the hunter's basement, ever.
>>
I really just wish the devs would spend as long as they need refactoring the fucking spaghetti code of this game.
I'm fine with the game we have now, if it means pushing back big updates for a while to fix the absolute fucking state of things then for the love of fuck just do it. The amount of time you save not having to bushwhack through a poorly maintained legacy code base will probably be faster than just trying to brute force updates through the mess anyway.

That arguably is the small problem because you can easily drink from rivers/lakes in vanilla but its still annoying if you plan on living in the woods.
>>
>>3100463
you will need to make a crucible to start blacksmithing
to do so you will need a pottery wheel and to fire the crucicle in a kiln
this requires 4 nails and a lighter/matches/candle/etc...
these are the only mandatory things you have to somehow forage or find

metalworkies, why is our skill so cucked? It requires 2 sources of fuel, welding rods & propane. Many things are gatekept behind scrap metal, which for some reason is the hardest metal to salvage in bulk, you can have 1000 tons of various pieces of metal including one called "steel scraps" but can't build without the scrap. at least iron pipes are found in bulk by dismantling every bathroom. no good furniture...

>>
>>3101451
Problem is those giant walls are almost completely cosmetic. Wow the one zombie who wandered in who couldn't even break a boarded up window, gotta have 50 log walls just in case

They really need to work on the zombie aspect of their zombie game otherwise all these survival mechanics are pointless. The innawoods life is basically always a choice of boredom. If you wanted you could live in the middle of LV with little issue but being able to get everything from looting would be le boring
>>
>>3101791
>Devs keep trying to make the game harder

It's baffling, I've never seen a game that goes out of it's way this much to not interact with the fucking title of the game itself.
If Skyrim made dragons do 1 hit kills, and being near a dead dragon kills you, and there's about 50 dragons circling overhead at all times, players would probably not try fighting the dragons and might just stay in caves.

>Glassmaking
No point, ignore it

Actually sort of important if you want to build certain crafting stuff, but it's basically just a roadblock skill, nothing 'fun' revolves around it
>Carving
A lot more useful than masonry, needed to make a bunch of weapons and can be fun to mass produce baseball bats
>Pottery
Similar to masonry, it's a roadblock skill that only exists to prevent the usage of other skills until you gain enough pottery to make certain items. In this case, pottery exists to prevent usage of blacksmithing.
