I am a cranky 30 old boomer and want to pay money upfront for a mobile RPG instead of p2w/gacha nonsense. What are my options?

look into roguelikes (not roguelites). all of them include tactical combat and build strategizing. all are turn-based and non-modal (no battle screens, no real difference between exploration and combat) so you end up stitching together known methods for defeating individual enemies into battle plans for the specific group youre facing on the specific level geometry and with the specific items you have at the moment. some roguelikes that play well on mobile:>shattered pixel dungeongood as a first roguelike. the mobile interface is great and the learning curve is pretty smooth. mapgen is interesting. less number-crunchy than some other roguelikes>brogue celike spd but better and less beginner-friendly. mobile interface is worse, more choices as far as play style goes, better mapgen, more complex situations.>shiren ds1 (via ds emulator)pretty good, and closer to a traditional RPG in structure than many roguelikes. interface works well enough but too many nested menus. mapgen is bland but lots of item and enemy interactions to play with. wish it was less rngish.>powder (via ds emulator)best old school roguelike for a beginner. the ds port specifically has a good interface, like shiren it has lots of item and monster interactions, but is more class-based. wiki highly recommended.>gnollhacklike powder but with more of everything. wiki is necessary. despite having an interface more tailored to mobile, its still really clunky. i wouldnt recommend unless you really like powder a lot>dungeon crawl stone soupbuild autism all the way, the exploration and combat can be automated when you feel safe, the mobile interface looks confusing but works well. fewer item/ monster interactions and tricks, less time spent on each enemy than many others.>sil-qarguably more build autism while less automated than dcss, interface is clunky but works. at times it feels like diablo 1.
