I was a completely new player during the middle of the eva collab and didn't realize I could just get one copy of her and slowly get defender permits randomly from events and roulettes to get her to a3 while making her pilot another mech and before I knew it the event was over. I'd say that the game doesn't really start until you unlock research & development and that 95% of pilots won't feel good until you unlock their skills that are locked behind levels. So you have to be patient because at first no matter which pilot you'll get the attacks they'll be able to perform will be rather basic until you can get to the fun stuff.
Matilda is very good and on banner right now, but just like I said if you get her at level 20 or something she'll feel weak because she won't have her skills, her passive stats from r&d, a rainbow'd mech, etc etc...
The biggest noob trap would be wasting your upgrade cores, use them carefully and only on top tier STs (how mechs are called), it's explained in the spreadsheet.

as well as a free "corresponding upgrade material" that upgrades a specific mech part from gold 1 to gold 2

so you need 1 dupe

but you can also find gold 1 to gold 2 "chassis upgrade material"
and "cores" which can completely substitute for any mech part
from events/rewards

Ignoring the generic upgrade kits and upgrade cores from events and stores, you need a dupe to upgrade to ^^ then upgrade that with generic non-S parts to ^^^, then from Dispatch, grab the mech, then dedicated upgrade kit + generic parts to another set of ^^^ and rainbow from there.

If you have 4 upgrade kits, you can just have one mech, upgrade it to ^^ with the kits and then do Dispatch route.

If you reaaaaaaaally only have 1 mech and Dispatch is not an option, you need 8 generic upgrade kits, 4 upgrade cores.

She's not that bad but first she's heavy so that's one extra annoyance since you most likely don't have a mech you can lend her at the ready. Then you have to ask yourself in which content you would even use her, the only answer is AC but even then I never end up using her while I'm still finding some use out of Grant for obvious reasons, Dana for sniper teams, and Kaidan that I use as a bootleg Marcus while giving him Twilight fang. Hell I'd even use Winston before even considering fielding Erisa in all the AC content I've had to deal with so far. Eileen A4 isn't going to be a gamechanger but Erisa is very likely going to collect the dust besides you will end up with a rainbow malthus at some point for the Mary buff transfer so you'll have it for Eileen. That's why I asked if you were a collectionist. If you just want to get all the waifus (and Erisa is a great one imho) then get that tight journalist. If you want to get the strongest account, get Eileen.

We're constantly out of fodder for the STs, although in Erisa's case since she's heavy that might not be such a problem if you haven't used your fodder on Alicorn or Rei's or the new ROG they just gave us. Then it's purely psychological but when I'm using a pilot and I don't have their bionics completely uncapped with proper chips I feel like I'm leaving firepower on the table that I'm not using so it irks me, then you also look at the A3 talent and even if it's dogshit I still feel like I'm missing out, etc etc...
