Hello /vmg/. First time poster here, really interested in some mobile games to play, but aren't interested in gacha or F2P games. Are there any good games where you just pay once upfront and get the full game?RPGs or turn-based games would be ideal, but open to anything you find interesting that fit the qualifications.I play on Android too if that helps, but Apple recs are welcome as well. Thanks :)
Not hating on gacha or F2P games btw, they're just not my thing personally
I prefer to go on Play Pass subscription, which lets me try different games and play them and all their DLCs without buying, and mostly buy games that aren't on the Pass. Some very occasional games like Iron Marines Invasion actually suck when purchased and are better to get via the Pass. Some paid games that I enjoyed one way or another include:Xenowerk TacticsA Dark RoomRiptide GP: RenegadeDungeon ClawlerSlice & DiceEpic Battle Fantasy 5 (only extra modes and dungeons are paid)Bad NorthKingdom Two Crowns80 DaysForetalesAnd also a good number of assorted puzzle games
>>2117088ex astris and animal crossing pocket campthe rest is mostly dogshit slop or portsmobile game industry is really shit thanks to all the f2p gachasloppai highly recommend checking out ex astris and even supporting it because it's literally the only high quality mobile game in the entire market that doesn't have daily login fomo gachashit attached to itwe need to make that game successful if we want more high quality games like that for mobile
minireview.io site makes it easier to find good games than the store app. You can filter by tags like 'turn-based', 'role playing', and 'paid' to find shit relevant to your interests easier.
>>2117088Hello, not a mobile gamer, just checking the board out for the first time. While I dont play phone games, my probably all time favorite pc game slay the spire has a full port to mobile too (probably cant get mods working on there)No microtransactions or anything shady, just peak roguelike experienceI checked its 9,99€ on the app store
I discovered "The Dungeon Within" during my vacation. It's like 5 bucks. What you get is a fairly well done "dungeon defense" game with pretty deep RPG mechanics. It's structured as a roguelite, where you pick your main lord, get 3 random monster a random trap and then try to survie increasingly challenging assaults on your dungeon, with a classic pick-your-path and pick-your-rewards structure. The combat is faily deep and loosly based on the DnD stat system with dice rolls. Progression is extensive as various traps and monsters scale with certain stats of your dark lord which you can upgrade, multiples of monsters/traps can be used to improve them and you can also fuse monster for higher level monster and fuse certain combination of traps for unique traps etc.The pixelart is good, but fairly sexualized. The dev has also made two other games, which are fairly well recieved, but serve more like predecessors to this game.
All of the CAVE shmups. They're only on iOS right now, but trust me, you'll probably never need any other games on your phone ever again after. Just go straight for the 1cc, don't even THINK of credit feeding. Also the second they make an model 3 emulator for phones, spikeout final. don't need to say more, it's just that good.
ive been playing the mobile port of subnautica lately and it is great, runs well on my cheap ipad and you get the full game, very impresseddont starve is good fun tooi dont know of many good turn based games but civ 6 is available on mobilethats it really, i could recommend more but all my recommendations would be of just good mobile games, not necessarily rpg or turn based games
>>2117144kingdom two crowns is pretty good i got that for free back in the daythe music is great, too bad the gameplay is as shallow as a kiddy pool, its addictive but burns you out quickly
mindustry is okay.
>>2117175>mobile game industry is really shit thanks to all the f2p gachasloppaand maybe people downloading the apk files instead of paying for actual games on the phone had something to do with the downfall too.
The Room series is a puzzle box / escape room game made for mobile. The third game is the best and you dont need to play the first 2 for the story
>>2198897It's even easier to pirate PC games yet the opposite happens.
>>2198897>>2199028Piracy isn't actually harmful to vidya, it's what made PC gaming as big as it is, actually. But because it's such a marginal thing on mobile, many games fail to reach a large playerbase.
>>2199679Recently Google at least trying to replicate steam's success by building gaming community on playstore. They added better gamer profile page and community post just recently.
>>2198897honestly it's just that phone is completely associated with dogshit f2p slop with ads or gacha, and so it has attracted poorfags who pirate and want to play paid things for freeex astris had the most brutal launch for a mobile gameconsole quality game without any additional transactions, and it barely made any profitthe developers had plans to add dlc to the game, and it has been 3 years, the game has been completely abandoned
>>2217201Ex astris have near zero advertising. I didn't even know about it until 1 year after release.
>>2226893That's a common issue with phone vidya - nobody talks about them. You ever hear about hot new games being launched that aren't gacha? You have to go out of your way to find the good stuff.Probably the best way for devs to promote a game is to launch it on Steam first and then announce a port.
>>2117088Afterplace is really good and controls very well. It's a souls-like version of Undertale (you're encouraged to kill enemies and it doesn't affect the story), and if you have no skill you can turn on invincible mode in the settings. I do that while playing drunk. You can use a Bluetooth controller too but touch screen controls work the best with the gameplay. The only problem is if you take long breaks and forget where you're going it can be hard to get your bearings. The sound track is really good and comfy, with a fun challenge.
>>2217180What they should replicate is Steam's discovery features: filtering, blacklisting, curators, festivals, actual wishlist that tracks sales. Most importantly make it so that browsing the app doesn't spit out the shittiest adware and hide the stuff you'd actually be willing to buy.
>>2233528That's nice to have but if they want to combat piracy then building community is more important.
>>2117088why not play real games on console or pc if you are willing to pay
>>2237654What's wrong with having real games on your phone? I like to play RTSes, shooters and RPGs on PC, and puzzle games, turn-based tactics and casual games on mobile. Complementary platforms.
