I don't hate it, and I'm happy they gave it something, but I do kind of prefer Magneton. At least it's not Rhyperior.

Though I do find it intresting how both it and Magnezone don't feel that necesary. Frankly, the only Gen 1 cross evolution that genuinly does is Electivire and Magmortar. Since neither of it's pre evolutions has ever felt particulary good despite their rarity. In comparision every gen 2 and gen 3 cross evolution is a obvious salvage case and nigh unamiously very popular.

A couple of years ago, I did a playthrough of Ultra Moon with only unevolved Pokemon, and Magnemite was part of that team. It even played a critical part in defeating Ultra Necrozma.

Honestly I never felt much about the line until Magnezone, now I like all the stages.
Maybe it's because I like working towards something cool (and I consider Magnezone cool even if I know this isn't universal), for example Helioptile/Heliolisk in XY always felt like it was messing one more stage, in theory they're Pokemon I like but I don't feel inclined to use them because of that nagging feeling.

Magenton was my MVP in my lastest FRLG playthrough. I like Magnezone but I wish it were a mega or regional variant of Magenton so it didn't get relegated to a middle evolution, but that wasn't on the cards in gen IV.
