playing randomized emerald except all trainers are double battles, and i can only gain exp from trainers, so no grinding, making exp a limited resource.
im starting to believe the entire series shouldve been double battles from the start,
theres so many more strategies you can do in double battles,
for example in the early game i was running leer intentionally just because it hits both opponents, or you can do surf + water absorb shenanigans, or just using helping hand. also surf hits your team mate which i love because i always thought surf was way too op so it forces you to use other water type moves
or for example a trainer sent out a scizor, so your first instinct is to switch to your fire type right, but his other pokemon was a vaporeon, so i couldnt. i really recommend doubles. after emerald im gonna nuzlocke either frlg or platinum, also doubles
when i get to bw ill do triple battles if thats an option in the randomizer
currently hoping to find a dark or ghost type so i can deal with psychic types better

I'm now towards the end of the game.

I first begin today by exploring the final areas catching both a Hawlucha and then a Bisharp. I then take on the fifth member of Team Star Eri and it became one of the hardest and most stressful battles ever.

First I sent out Murkrow against her Toxicroak and I immediately terrestrialised him, Murkrow killed Toxicroak instantly with a Wing Attack but not before taking a powerful Poison Jab that poisoned him, next was Annihilape but I needed to heal Murkrow and I didn't want to risk Tinkaton taking a hit while healing so I sent out Staraptor instead as I healed Murkrow and Staraptor took a powerful Close Combat, expecting Staraptor to die, I decided to just say fuck it and use Brave Bird and too my surprise, it took put Annihilape instantly but Staraptor did die by the recoil, I finally sent out Tinkaton against his Passimian, she took a Seed Bomb before taking out Passiminian with Play Rough, then Murkrow came out again to take out Lucario with two Wing Attacks but nearly died to Dragon Pulse, as soon as Eri sent out the Caph Starmobile, I needed to heal Murkrow again so I sent out Flamigo and as I healed Murkrow, Flamigo took a Spin Out, now she did managed to use a Air Slash but she died to another Spin Out, finally Murkrow came out and used multiple Wing Attacks, each attack only boosted the Starmobiles defense and to make things worst, it kept using Shift Gear which boosted it's attack and speed so I got nervous but Murkrow taking one Spin Out, Murkrow managed to finally destroy the vehicle with Wing Attack.

That's it for today. I'm gonna take on the elite four tomorrow. How's my final team look?

i do but they're either low level or dont have enough synergy with the rest of my team so i would rather concentrate my exp on these 4. i did train up a gyarados (mostly because of intimidate) but he died (swellow survived on red hp, used endeavor on my gyarados, then fearow attacked it)

but on one of the ocean routes i found a teddiursa that im now leveling up against the swimmers, my plan is to run guts (with will-o-wisp from ninetales) and facade

White 2 Nuzlocke - Set Mode - Level Cap - No Healing in Battle
After a long break I've picked this up again. Last time, I had just arrived at Undella Town. I've since made headway north, crossed Village Bridge, and settled at Opelucid City. Largely without incident or worry, though a tennis player and her Lilligant gave me worry, putting Bird the Emboar in a confusion-lock, but ultimately no harm done.
Teeter Dance can put you in a real nasty spiral; A single persim berry for Bird to hold and it would've been smooth sailing.
Inside Drayden's Gym, during a rotation battle, I stupidly assumed a druddigon wouldn't click Revenge, DOOM the Cofagrigrus being frontman at that moment, and rotated Battery the Excadrill headfirst into the miserable blow, thankfully I'd had the sense to lead with Roach the Krookodile at the outset of the whole thing and Battery made out with a sore bruise and none the worse thanks to Intimidate.
I'll train up before I face Drayden, in particular I'm training Voyager the Skarmory who's rested in the PC since his capture outside of Lentimas.
The team so far:
Bird the Emboar
Blues the Stoutland
Deja Vu the Lilligant
Roach the Krookodile
Foe the Jellicent
Battery the Excadrill
as well as
DOOM the Cofagrigus, and Voyager the Skarmory.

Last two gyms were a breeze but the Rival fight after was rough. I am not looking forward to all the grinding I will have to do for the E4. It specially sucks because I already spent a lot of time leveling up Aerodactyl and searching for items so being underleveled again so soon is not fun.
I won't complain about the Dragonair because I knew what I was getting into and it honesty has been pulling his weight but I really wish he evolved already.

Here's my progress.

First I beat Director Clavell who is easy. Krow took out Oranguru and Polteageist with Foul Play and Night Shade, King K Rool took put Abomasnow and Amoongus with Flamethrower and Torch Song, Toxic took out Houndoom with Earthquake and Static terrestrialised and took out the terrestrialised Quaquaval with Spark though Aqua Step did nearly kill.

Afterwards I basically explore the rest of the map, caught a Tandemaus outside the pokemon league and a Magnezone at the Great Crater of Paldea. Tomorrow im taking on the elite four and then the champion. My team is is Skeledirge, Murkrow, Clodsire, Tinkaton, Tsareena and Luxray.

Give me any advice you have for the elite four and Geeta.

Continued;
Fought Drayden, here's how it went: Roach leads and intimidates Druddigon, switch in DOOM for free(Revenge) then Will o' Wisp while tanking a Crunch.
Burned and -1'd, Druddigon is nicely crippled and over the course of a swap and a couple of Dragon Tails Roach comes in again and again. Drudd is safely useless now.
Blues the Stoutland comes in to Work Up, no higher than +2 lest luck be tried with Dragon Tail, and, with Expert Belt equipped, cleanly OHKOs Drayden's entire line-up.

Oh, and DOOM's Mummy erasing Drudd's Sheer Force was excellent as well.

I wasn't expecting Voyager the Skarmory to be a benchwarmer but I also hadn't given proper thought to Intimidate + Work Up until I was actually IN the battle, so.
Also, to be clear, only Roach has Intimidate, Blues is a Sand Rush user.

>>
>>59285703
I had a similar experience with Hala in my first run. Trumbeak cleaned him up pretty easily but the Z Move took a pretty large chunk out of him in return.
It's not just a type advantage thing, if you're keeping your team lean and at level cap it's a pretty annoying fight, even outside of a Nuzlocke.
>>
>>59284593
Since then;
Came to Humilau via the Marine Tube — which has great music — and defeated Marlon's trainers.
Little bit of training in Seaside Cave; caught Spock the Tynamo (nickname may change if the mood strikes), and a little further ahead I caught Rembrandt the Remoraid who will let me, if I like, evolve the Mantyke I caught at Undella Bay.
A fairly comfortable stopping point, I might take a not-too-long break. So, I'll end with the exciting news that I am now the proud possessor of the 'Wailord Watcher' Medal.

I've just become the champion of Paldea.

First I took on all four members of the elite four.

Against Rika. First I terrestrialised Dominatrix and took out Whiscash with Trop Kick instantly, then I sent out Toxic against her Camerupt and killed it with Earthquake, Dominatrix came back to eliminate Donphan with Trop Kick but it survived due to Sturdy and even used Poison Jab, Dominatrix eventually took out Donphan with Magical Leaf but needed to be healed, I sent out Krow while Rika sent out Dugtrio who used Sandstorm while I healed Dominatrix, then when Krow tried to land a Foul Play, it kept missing and Dugtrio used Rock Slide which made things scary, so I had to switch out to Dominatrix and use Trop Kick on Dugtrio, finally Trop Kick was also used to take out terrestrialised Clodsire that tried to use Toxic to Poison Dominatrix but it missed.

Against Poppy. First King K Rool took out Copperajah with Flamethrower and then Bronzong with Torch Song, then Static took put Corviknight with Discharge after it took a Brave Bird and then I terrestrialised Toxic and used Earthquake to take out Magnezone who survived due to Sturdy and used Flash Cannon before another Earthquake took it out for good and then Poppy's terrestrialised Tinkaton used Gigaton Hammer did alot of damage nearly killing Toxic before Earthquake took it out.

Against Larry. First Krow takes out Tropius with Wing Attack, Amy Rose takes out Altaria with Play Rough, then Static terrestrialised and took out Staraptor with Discharge, Toxic took out Oricorio with Poison Sludge and finally Static came out again to take down a terrestrialised but unimpressive Flamigo with Discharge.
>>
Against Hassel. First I had Amy Rose Terrestrialised and used Play Rough to take out Noivern though Noivern did alot of damage with Super Fang, I then sent out Toxic and healed Amy Rose while Dragalge used Hydro Pump which Toxic is immune too, Earthquake was used to take it out, King K Rool used Torch Song to eliminate Flapple, then Amy Rose came out and took out both Haxorus and Baxcalibur with Play Rough though Icicle Crash did alot of damage.

After all that, I then take on the champion of Paldea Geeta and she is pathetically easy. Krow took out Espathra with Foul Play, Dominatrix took out Kingambit with High Jump Kick, Static took out Veluza with Discharge, Amy Rose took out Avalugg with Gigaton Hammer, King K Rool took out Gogoat with Torch Song and even terrestrialised Toxic took out terrestrialised Glimmora with Earthquake. All her pokemon went down in one hit. What a waste. But I have become the champion of Paldea.

Of course I also beat Penny, Arven and Nemona afterwards but I don't feel like telling how I beat them all. The nuzlocke isn't over as there is everything relating to Area Zero.

Frying run completed. Lorelei was definitely the final boss of this game. The original plan was for Dragonair and Charizard to handle her but both got wrecked by Dewgong. Then Gyarados gets Frozen by slowbro and Dodrio got Frozen by Lapras. The whole fight was a mess but ultimately Aerodactyl and Crobat pulled through.
The rest of the Elite4 was a nonissue. Crobat demonstrated the superiority of the Poison type by single-handedly taking Bruno and Agatha. Then I finally evolved Dragonair and swept Lance. Even if it was for a single fight, having a Dragonite really does feel incredibly cathartic. Then the Rival was a team effort but mostly because I was too underleveled to oneshot his pokemon.

This was surprisingly harder than the Poison run. Despite Gen 3 giving you a lot more resources than Gen1, Flying types really don't get much to work with. Just a bunch of frail, fast mons using Wing Attack for the most part. Other than Gyarados being Gyarados, The standout this run was probably Crobat, both because Golbat not learning Fly was the most disappointing moment of the run and because she somehow ended up being the tank of the party.

I didn't understand the appeal of nuzlockes until my starter almost died to some random team galactic skunktank. That was a great feeling

I just completed my Pokemon Scarlet Nuzlocke.

I ended the nuzlocke by going down to Area Zero, I caught a Floette and then took on AI professor Sada in the Zero Lab. Krow took out Slither Wing with Wing Attack, King K Rool took out Scream Tail with Shadow Ball, Krow took out Brute Bonnet with Wing Attack, Amy Rose took out Flutter Mane with Gigaton Hammer, Toxic took put Sandy Shocks with Earthquake and finally, terrestrialised Amy took out Roaring Moon with Play Rough. After she was defeated, I finally received Koraidon and beat hers and my nuzlocke was over.

I honestly think Pokemon Scarlet is the easiest game to nuzlocke, more so than X.

Got myself an earlier Electirizer thanks to the Join Avenue.
Gentleman Stonewall on Village Bridge had a very powerful Durant, and I did not have my Emboar in at the beginning of the fight. So Emboar took quite a bit of damage from it befor landing a Flame Charge. I thought I would oneshot his Lucario afterwards, but I was wrong, and that's how I lost my Starter.
I then ended up in a bad spot in a double battle on Route 9, which caused me to lose my Golduck.
I was worried about Drayden, but I had a bunch of luck that turned what could have been a tough fight really easy.
>Vs Drayden
>Druddigon
Brannigan gets an Ice Punch Crit.
>Flygon
I think I still was thinking of Electabuzz's speed instead of Vire's, because I though I could outspeed.
Flygon hits with Earth Power and does big damage, but Ice Punch get the oneshot.
>Haxorus
I swap in Pennybags on a Slash that doesn't affect it.
Next turn, Haxorus uses Assurance, but it gets disable by Cursed Body. Will-O-Wisp lands.
Haxorus Dragon Dances, but Pennybags lands a Hex Crit for the oneshot.

White 2 Nuzlocke - Set Mode - Level Cap - No Healing in Battle
Beat Marlon no problem.
Caught Stranger the Piloswine in the Giant Chasm grass (critical capture timer ball).
I haven't yet had a Hidden Grotto encounter.
Voyager the Skarmory nicely walls just about any grunt team.
Next is Colress, then Kyurem+Ghetsis.
I'm thinking, when it comes to it, I'll lead with Foe the Jellicent to wall Kyurem-white and then once I'm fighting Ghetsis hopefully his Cofagrigus will click Toxic on Foe and let me switch in Battery the Excadrill for free.
Considering training Spock the Tynamo but I'm undecided if I really feel like going out of my way.

Took a while to pick it up again (slay the spire 2 is far more addicting) and not a whole lot of gameplay has happened quantity wise since last, but good lord was that an intense set of battles. Coming off of my last game which was filled with bosses that used Scary Face, Double Team, and often had no STAB, Earthquake+Ice Fang Gyarados among the other monsters was a step up. I feel so sorry for Potomac (Vespiquen) as it is one of my favorite mons and I felt so lucky to have caught it, but she did provide me a lot of fun (but you can't rely on spamming Defend Order if you get crit). Shawseen (Honchkrow) was also a hard loss as I had only just evolved her and given her time spent unevolved and frail for so long, she was like the team baby that everyone tried to save. Once again the mvp, was Belle (Bibarel), but now because Yawn is such a clutch option to have. If Euphrates (Bronzong) was lucky enought to have had Levitate instead, it would've been a much easier battle, but I can't be too hard on them, because they absolutely tanked a Roar of Time and Hypnotized Dialga for a Close Combat follow up. Galactic is probably my favorite team so far in this challenge and I definitely look forward to doing their guantlet at least 2 more times. Not entirely sure who to bring on my team for Volkner, Victory Road, and then the Elite 4/Cynthia, so I'd appreciate some advice. I definitely like the wide variety of options I've accumulated, so I don't really feel hopeless.

Beat Colress. Battery in the lead with Leftovers, E.Quake into Magneton(sturdy), S.Dance while Colress uses a potion, and sweep with E.Quake and X-Scissor. Magnton's first Flash Cannon was a Crit but Leftovers helps compensate. Klinklang shifted gears twice without attacking so no concern there.

For Kyurem, Foe the Jellicent with Toxic and Recover should do the job. Hopefully Kyurem isn't +Sp.Atk Natured and/or high in Sp.Atk IVs, that would be awful. I fear the critical hit. Sitrus or Leftovers for Foe is on the menu.
If that goes well and I then lead with a healthy Jellicent (I'm pretty sure Ghetsis fights you right away without taking a beat), I think my next move might be to switch in Roach the Krookodile (holding Pecha) and get off one or two Snarls to facilitate Battery the Excadrill switching in and Swords Dancing without fear.
My worry with this is the possibility that Cofagrigus switches out due to the type disadvantage or because of the -1,-2 from Snarl. My guess is type disadvantage probably wouldn't trigger a switch since Cofagrigus wants to click Toxic.
I have no real way of knowing if Shadow Ball resist plus -1or2 Sp.Atk is likely to make Ghetsis switch out, I seriously hope not.
Gonna be extremely demoralizing if I wipe to Ghetsis.

Foe, with Leftovers, did very well against Kyurem. Dragon Breath paralysed Foe towards the end but interestingly the game quietly cured the status before I fought Ghetsis.
Switching in Roach with Pecha went by the book, two Snarls and I brought in Battery to S.Dance +6; +4 was likely enough but I couldn't help myself. Cofagrigus scored a Crit Shadow Ball while Battery danced. Risking an unlikely second Crit with a third Swords Dance isn't very wise but Cofagrigus clicked Protect so Swords Dance the third went free and unpunished.
Earthquake and X-Scissor cleaned up Ghetsis' whole team.
My first nuzlocke, last run, ended at Ghetsis, so this is furthest I've ever gone in a nuzlocke.
Feels good. I don't want to think about the E4 or the Champion.

Crystal early game is kind of brutal for Water types. I've had Baby-Doll Eyes and Aqua Jet on Primarina for the longest time but recently deleted them for Hyper Voice and Psychic. is it a mistake to prioritize priority moves in a nuzlocke/PvE setting? Primarina isn't the fastest mon around, so I thought it wasn't a mistake but maybe I'm over-thinking it.

>>
>>59300541
>is it a mistake to prioritize priority moves
It really all comes down to knowing what will outspeed you and kill you vs could you have killed it with a priority move to begin with or were better off switching out.
Most of the time if you're up against something that can take you out the priority move isn't going to save the mon anyway, plus you also have to factor atk/spa and depending on the game you can usually outspeed most things just from casual grinding.

I finished the Teal Mask DLC.

I caught a Eletkrik, a Cramorant and a Ekans. Also Poltchageist evolved into Sinistcha and Yanma evolves into Yanmega.

I beat Kieran for the final time. First I had Yanmega use Bug Buzz to take out Shiftry, then Graveler used Earthquake to take out Probopass, then Barraskewda took out Gliscor with Liquidation, Hatterene beat Dripplin with Play Rough, Sinidtcha defeated Poliwrath with Matcha Gotcha and finally Ninetales took out his Yanmega with a Fire Blast. After beating Kieran, I catch Ogerpon.

I also beat Carmine for the final time. Yanmega took out her Mightyena with Bug Buzz, Barraskewda took out Ninetales with Liquidation, Ogerpon used Low Kick to deal with Morpeko and finally Yanmega took out both her Leavanny and Sinistcha with Air Slash.

That's kinda it. I hope the other DLC is good.

Pokémon Moon Nuzlocke Complete!
>Lv. 72 Zygarde\Megazord
the Elite 4 and Champion MVP. it solo'd the Champion and 3 members of the Elite 4 — S tier in battle but awful availability
>Lv. 66 Tsareena\Bouncee
surprisingly solid despite being mono-grass. I legitimately have no complaints, which is high-praise for a grass-type — B tier
>Lv. 63 Crobat\Koga
the dark horse nuzlocke MVP who solo'd Hala. I honestly didn't expect to be carried to the Elite 4 by this guy — A tier
>Lv. 61 Crabominable\Rockie
essentially dead-weight. the evolved form is neat but only available in the end-game. not worth it at all — D tier
>Lv. 58 Lunala\Mahina-Pea
aggressively mid. there's far too many dark-type moves in the endgame to risk losing this in a nuzlocke — C tier
>Lv. 53 Sharpedo
absolutely useless in a nuzlocke without mega evolution. it's far too frail to fight anything, even the things it resists — F tier

10 years ago, this game gave me buyer's remorse, and I never bought a modern Pokémon game again. I was very wrong about these games. they DO have a LOT of dialogue and the exploration IS watered down, but they're still competent Pokémon games.
>>
>>59309666
It's up to preference, really. I honestly never count postgame or DLC for Nuzlockes, but that's just me.
If you're getting bored with nuzlockes, either do a gimmick run with some weird non-standard ruleset, or just do a normal playthrough, preferably without looking anything up.
I recently did a regular-ass playthrough of FireRed, half-blind, only things I really knew off-hand were what the gyms were by memory, and where to find a few random pokemon I wanted to use that I never used before. The only change I made being that I kept the battle mode as set, and goddamn, it was some of the most fun I've had playing pokemon in fucking years.
>>
>>59309844
Is there a general that's like this but not for nuzlockes?
>>
>>59309844
Also I think the reason why is just because while Scarlet has a good selection of pokemon to capture, all I'm doing most of the time is just taking forever exploring one area of the map. The game is way too easy.
>>
>>59310060
Not really. Occasionally you'll get a Team thread but those aren't really built for active playthrough updates. Might be worth looking into creating a regular Playthrough General of some sort. .
You could always do a non-nuzlocke challenge run too. This is, objectively, a nuzlocke AND challenge run general.
>>59310064
Something I've found to help is making my team a bit of a revolving door. During my normal playthrough of Scarlet, I had 31 different pokemon who were all primary members of my team at one point or another. Same story for Shield, 30 members of varying team compositions. Helped deal with the over-leveling problem that the EXP share causes, at least. Even my most recent FireRed playthrough had 4 additional non-primary members who came on and off of the team over time.
>>
>>59310151
I have this idea for a nuzlocke I want to do. Basically I'm only limited to using pokemon that is used by a major character(rival, gym leaders, elite four, champion, evil team) and if it's from the generation they are apart of.

Another issue is I want to do the 2D pokemon games again but I just wish I could hack in rare candies for say if I'm doing FireRed or HeartGold because I always end up catching underdevelled pokemon later and they will end up replacing powerful pokemon that died. I don't have a game boy, only a DS so i don't know how to do that.
>>
I forgot to mention that Gamefreak really fumbled the ball when it came to Ultra Lusamine. instead of fighting her directly, it's just another Pokémon battle. huge missed-opportunity and wasted potential for what could have been the first non-Pokémon boss in the series.

I'm starting Ultra Sun and picked Rowlet. I'm always suspicious of grass-types especially the ones that end up as mono-grass on their 3rd stage but that's not the case with Rowlet. In my Moon nuzlocke, I picked Popplio and then caught like 8-12 water types. I didn't pick Litten in the off-chance I get the Ultra Sun cover legendary, but my gut feeling tells me it's not available until the post-game. I'll try picking Litten on subsequent attempts.
>Lv. 9 Rowlet
>Lv. 6 Grubbin
>Lv. 5 Inkay
Moon was very easy using all of the available mechanics as it took me only 2 attempts, but that's definitely more my speed than the alternative. even though I don't want to do dozens of attempts of such a text-heavy game, I will be playing Ultra Sun 100% blind and will try to avoid spoilers during this playthrough. for now, I've made it to Kukui's Lab.
>>
>>59309701
Congrats on the win! I kind of feel the same about Alola, when the games actually let me play i enjoyed myself, but all too often it throws cutscenes at you to rob your control.
>>
>>59310151

>What are you running?

>How are you running it?
>Only 1st Pokemon encountered in each route/area can be caught.
>If a Pokemon faints, it's considered "dead" and can't be used anymore.
>I can't catch any duplicate Pokemon, if I do, the encounter must be rerolled. This also extends to any Pokemon of the evolution family. (For example, if I catch a Glalie, I can't catch a Froslass)
>Can't level past next gym leader/E4 highest level mon
>If I lose any battle, it counts as a wipe and I have to restart, regardless of how many Pokemon are alive in my box
Then there's a small rule that I've imposed on myself specifically for RenPlat and that's to ban myself from using Setup moves, and ban the use of any Pokemon in the Happiny line.

Fine for now, attempt #3 died at Wake earlier this morning, my mental wasn't good after how Fantina went, and lost 2 mons on a random trainer on Route 212 but it shouldn't take me too long to get back there. Red successfully defeated after an eternity of grinding. Mono water ended up being kind of bland as a challenge, more monotonous than difficult. Compared to Poison and Flying, it doesn't really get a ton of variety. Even with different secondary types, they all get the same level up and TM moves and their best moves end up being HMs anyway so it was really difficult to find a role any of them fulfilled particularly well.
Qwilfish is probably the stand out, mostly because the team really struggled with Grass types and he ended up being the designated weed killer with Sludge Bomb and Pin Missile. Quagsire similarly was the go to for Electric Types, it truly is great how early it learns Earthquake. The Red Gyarados is the Red Gyarados, not much to say there. Kingdra was kind of underwhelming, getting an extra Grass and Electric resist was nice but once it was in the field he didn't do much. Lanturn had her Electric moves but at no point felt really necessary and defaulted to using Surf most of the time. Feraligatr ended up being the least interesting member of the team. To call him an HM slave would be undeserved praise since everyone's best move were Surf and Strength and his moveset was full of field moves rather than HMs.
I still had fun since Crystal is Crystal but the challenge wasn't really a challenge. The beginning of the game was interesting but by the end, all the planning and strategy required to win was clicking Surf again and again. I can already tell that doing Water types in the land of too much water is not going to be fun.
>>

As much as Gen 1 movesets get memed on, I feel it is less bad in those games. Between Special being a single stat and all the jank, you can get creative with movesets even when all you get is Water and Normal type moves.
Spamming gen 1 Blizzard is never not fun.

White 2 Nuzlocke - Set Mode - Level Cap - No Healing in Battle
About to enter The League. I'll fight Caitlin first.
My team is:
Batttery the Excadrill
Voyager the Skarmory
Socrates the Conkeldurr
Roach the Krookodile
Foe the Jellicent
DOOM the Cofagrigus
>>
>>59322442
Caitlin down, swords dance + lum into yawn worked nicely
>>
>>59322447
shauntal down, Roach with lum and hone claws swept, lum unnecessary, cofagrigus did not click will o' wisp
>>
>>59322459
Grimsley ,Socrates, bulk up, leftovers, drain punch, effortless
>>
>>59322465
Socrates + Bulk Up, and Marshal is done.
Now comes the Champion.
>>
>>59322478
you can do it!!
>>
>>59322478
Leading with Foe the Jellicent with Toxic into Hydreigon.
Toxic's count + surf managed to just avoid a full restore thankfully, and now Lapras is in.
Switch in DOOM, take the t.bolt, forgot to put toxic on DOOM but oh well.
Will o' Wisp, think I'll switch Foe back in for the free Water Absorb against Surf.
It worked, very nice. Now Lapras is very likely to click t.bolt so I ought to be able to safely bring in Battery the Excadrill if I like.
>>
>>59322516
switched in Battery the Excadrill to a Sing, uh oh
>>
>>59322519
kept in Battery hoping to wake up, Iris full restored with burn in the orange
kept in Battery again, still asleep, took an Ice Beam
Bringing in Foe with a mind to Toxic
>>
>>59322523
Missed toxic, got slept, t.bolt crit into wake up Toxic.
I can't tell when this damn Lapras wants to click t.bolt or sing
>>
>>59322519
>>59322523
oh no...
>>
>>59322528
brought in Battery, sing failed. Gotta get Foe back in for Water Absorb
>>
>>59322535
Ice Beam instead of Surf...
>>
>>59322536
Battery in again, t.bolt, Toxic has Lapras in red. full restore while I wake up and swords dance would be a gift
>>
>>59322539
no full restore, Iris just let Lapras die with one last ice beam, Druddigon is in now and I think Foe can handle.
Gonna sac Battery hoping for a wake up E.Quake and/or Druddigon misses focus blast, unless of course he clicks flamethrower.
Battery DID wake up, but flamethrower has killed him. RIP Battery, he put in work time and time again.
Druddigon's orange, think I'll bring in Roach to clean up
>>
>>59322549
EQuake kills Drudd, Haxorus steps in after. I think Roach can handle this.
>>
>>59322552
Haxorus has X-Scissor... and is +1atk and speed
Socrates with bulk and leftovers feels right.
>>
>>59322554
bulk up +2 through EQuake into Drain Punch takes down Haxorus and Iris sends in AGRRON instead of Archeops?!
This is free set up, or it should be, and my only worry will be a Crit Acrobatics afterwards
>>
>>59322560
+4 bulk up (i think), drain up, and here's Archeops.
Acrobatics does NOT crit and Socrates brings it home with Ice Punch.
Iris is Defeated.
>>
>>59322567
First time I've ever beat a Nuzlocke, feels great.
Who knows how long until I try another one of these, but if I do, it'll definitely be a Platinum Nuzlocke.
My only losses to Iris were Battery and Roach, perhaps I have some kind of spiritual debt to Ground Types now?...
And now that I'm the Champion, my Pokemon are free from the Curse of Death.
It's been fun.
Total Deaths across the run was 3. Battery, Roach, and Sphynx the Zubat who died to a Rattata in the sewers.
>>
>>59322579
congrats on the win!! unless I'm missing something, only 3 deaths with level caps and no healing in battle is amazing. well done.
>>
>>59322589
Thanks! I mean, Elesa and Clay were free thanks to Deja Vu the Lilligant, Skyla too, thanks to Battery.
Drayden was a little particular, requiring DOOM's Will o' Wisp and Mummy + Roach's initial Intimidate to then let Blues the Stoutland Work Up.
Over the course, the scariest battles were:
Psychic Trainer with Sigilyph in Relic Castle
Plasma Grunt with Watchog after you beat Elesa
and ANY triple battle, particularly the one south of Undella, an Ace Trainer with Teeter Dance Lilligant. I didn't fight her this run but on the last she gave me grief.

I beat Gardenia and Fantina today. Gardenia was pretty straight forward, with Glaceon eliminating Gardenia's first 3 Pokemon of Bellossom, Breloom, and Tangela consecutively. Monferno deals with Cherrim, and Wormadam finishes off the fight by killing Grotle, and Gardenia's ace Roserade.

With Gardenia defeated, my level cap raises to 33, and that means Ampharos, Machoke, Kingler, Feraligatr, and Piloswine all come online. Now, it was time to take on Team Galatic's Eterna HQ. It was a pretty straightforward affair as Wormadam and Ampharos clean out the grunts, and in the Jupiter fight, Ampharos, Glaceon, Milotic, and Wormadam win their 1v1's against Golbat, Tangela, Sableye and Skuntank respectively. With Galactic removed from Eterna City, I can claim the free Porygon from the Eterna HQ building, and I take the Togepi egg that I hatch in the bike shop.

I stopped by the underground mans house, partly for the explorer kit, but also to talk to the scientist lady who gives you 3 of each fossil. So I run down to Oreburgh, and use my fossil encounter on Rampardos. Then I go up to Route 206, nab a Stunky encounter, then go to Wayward Cave to help Mira, and get a Baltoy encounter.

Things got a little bumpy, as during a rival fight at Route 207, my Crobat dies to a crit Thunder Fang from his Granbull. Then, I had to let Ampharos die to E4's Aron's Venomoth in the tunnel to Hearthome. Outside of those hiccups, I make it to Hearthome city in relatively good shape. I get a Shiny Stone as thanks for saving Kira's Happiny so I can evolve Togetic into Togekiss, and an Up-Grade from Bebe to evolve the Porygon into Porygon2. Nothing else to do in Hearthome for now, so it was off to Fantina's gym.
>>

>>59314075
The team I bring to Fantina is Rampardos, Feraligatr, Gengar, Togekiss, Porygon2, and Vigoroth. Vigoroth can't do any damage to any of Fantina's mons, but the reason I brought him was to be able to be able to manipulate what moves Fantina's Pokemon could use.

I lead with Rampardos against Fantina's Drifblim, and OHKO with Rock Slide, out comes Spiritomb, and I swap to Togekiss, and Toge handles it with a Moonblast. Next is Fantina's Gengar. I know my own Gengar is slower than hers, so I do some swap manuvering, going from Togekiss to Gengar when it uses Sludge Bomb, then to Porygon2 on the incoming Shadow Ball. Knowing that my own Gengar was slower, I use T-Wave with Pory2, recover stall while I wait for a full para proc, and that's the que to switch to my own Gengar and OHKO it with Shadow Ball. Out comes Dusclops, and I take a risk and go for another OHKO with Shadow Ball, and I think the spell tag I had on my Gengar makes the difference as I do end up killing it.. Next is Banette, I'm scared of Sucker Punch, so I move over to Feraligatr and kill it.

Finally, it's Mismagius. My initial idea was to do the same thing I did was Fantina's Gengar and T-wave it with Porygon2, but I didn't want it to take damage on the switch in, so I swap into Vigoroth and watch it die to the Dazzling Gleam Misamagius unleashes. I swap into Togekiss, Yawn while it uses Calm Mind. Then I swap back into Rampardos. I use Rock Slide on it's first sleep turn. Almost kill it, and I watch it eat it's Sitrus Berry. One more Rock Slide...

A miss, Mismagius wakes up, and kills it with a Shadow Ball. Back to plan A. T-wave it with Porygon2, swap into Gengar on the resisted Dazzing Gleam, and kill it with Shadow Ball.

A little unfortunate that Rampardos missed it's second Rock Slide and died for it, but the level cap raises to 39, and that lets me get Staraptor, Swampert, Infernape, Empoleon, and Machamp. So still looking good heading into Rival + Mansion subplot

Today alot of hard battles have happened.

I took on three members of the BB league elite four, Crispin, Amarys and Lacey. All where somewhat hard.

Against Crispin. First I sent out Clodsire and Luxray, i terrestrialised Clodsire and used Toxic Spikes while Luxray used Discharge to take out his Talonflame and deal damage to his Rotom with Clodsire resisting the electric move, the plan was to then send back Luxray and send out Honchkrow and to have Clodsire use Earthquake to take out his Camerupt and Rotom, Rotom being fire electric therefore normally it would be double weak to ground as well as Honchkrow being able to resist ground but I forget Rotom knows Levitate so only Camerupt was killed while Rotom remained, I had to keep Honchkrow out and take out his Exeggutor with Foul Play, luckily enough the Poison from Toxic Spikes helped but the issue came with Rotom using Thunderbolt on Honchkrow so I had to keep healing Honchkrow, luckily enough, Rotom spent alot of time wasting Will O Wisp on Clodsire, the first time, Clodsire just ate its Rawst Berry but eventually I had to keep healing Clodsire too of the multiple burns it faced, not helped by Exeggutor using Solar Beam, when Honchkrow killed Exeggutor, Crispin sent out Magmortar and I sent back Honchkrow and sent out Luxray and kept using Discharge, eventually both Rotom and Magnortar who was poisoned where taken out, finally I sent Honchkrow back in when Crispin sent out his Blaziken but Crispin terrestrialised it essentially getting rid of its weakness to flying types, still Clodsire was able to take it out with Earthquake and the battle was over.
>>
Against Amarys. First i sent out Skeledirge and Tsareena, I terrestrialised Skeledirge and used Torch Song on Skarmory while Tsareena used High Jump Kick on Alolan Dugtrio, both survived and Dugtrios Earthquake did alot of damage to Skeledirge while Skarmory used a dirty move and used Whirlwind to force Tsareena out, while I healed Skeledirge and sent Tsareena back out, Skarmory used Stealth Rock making it harder to decide to switch, Skeledirge finished off Skarmory with another Torch Song while boosting it's special attack and Tsareena used Stomp to put Dugtrio back down underground, next was her Reuniclus and Empoleon, I had to be careful due to Empoleons Hydro Pump but luckily enough after Skeledirge took out Reuniclus in one Shadow Ball, Tsareena took down Empoleon in one High Jump Kick, finally Amarys sent out her Scizor and Metagross, the latter was terrestrialised and while Torch Song killed Scizor instantly, Hard Press nearly killed Tsareena so I switched her out and sent in the more defensive Clodsire who tanked the Stealth Rocks but Skeledirge managed to kill Metagross instantly with Flamethrower due to its special attack being boosted.
>>
Against Lacey. First I sent out Clodsire and Tinkaton, Tinkaton eliminated Granbull straight away with Gigaton Hammer while Clodsire used Sludge Wave on Whimsicott with Tinkaton being immune to poison and Whimsicott taking alot of damage, then came out Galarian Slowbro, Clodsire finished off Whimsicott with Sludge Wave while also dealing alot of damage to Slowbro while Tinkaton used Knock Off to get rid of its berry and deal damage, Lacey sent out Primarina who was a bit tough, eventually Sludge Wave took out Slowbro who was replaced with Alcremie but Tinkaton just smashed the thing with Gigaton Hammer, finally Lacey sent out her Excadrill and terrestrialised it, knowing it had ground type moves, I sent back Tinkaton and sent out Tsareena while terrestrialised Clodsire just to get rid of its poison type and weakness to ground while also using Poison Jab to finally take out Primarina that took a few hits, while Excadrill used High Horsepower that did alot of damage, Clodsire managed to poison it with Poison Jab and Tsareena got that last hit in with Trop Kick.
>>
Finally because I need to use pokemon in the terrarium for the next few battles, I evolved Doduo into Dodrio, Magneton into Magnezone and Finneon into Lumineon.

Unfortunately I did realise I caught Magnezone way earlier before the DLC so this technically counts as breaking the rules and I forget but I'm not going back to catch another pokemon and it's not like I used the first Magnezone and the game is forcing me to use terrarium pokemon anyway. Irrelevant but i also had to catch an Alolan Grimer the other day even though I had already caught a pokemon in the area but it was too progress things. It should be fine.

Anyway that's it for today. Do you guys have any advice for Drayton?

Been a little while, but I've picked Diamond back up again. Had to grind up some new teamates, but so far Mackenzie (Abomasnow) and Mississippi (Skuntank) are definitely pulling their weight. I don't have much knowledge about the Sinnoh elite 4 as I haven't played a vanilla Sinnoh game in over a decade, but I'm assuming Spiritomb and Garchomp are the scariest pokemon, and these two additions tackle them pretty well, right? I am determined to take Belle (Bibarel) to the hall of fame, so that I can finally cross it out of the encounters, and I think I'd like to take Motuga (Wormadam) there as well, as she's been a suprisingly useful teammate. I do still have Victory Road and Barry to survive, but Cynthia caps at 66, which is 20 levels from where I am, so I'm not sure how much grinding is ahead of me now. What's been your experiences in DP? Where are you usually when you head into the Elite 4? I don't want something impossible as 2 slots aren't going to be that reliable, but nothing too easy either (so probably not going to 66 unless Cynthia really is a monster).

With Fantina done, it's time to begin the Team Galactic subplot of them taking over the Pokemon Mansion, which begins with a rival right that's won without issue, after which a maid calls for assistance at the mansion, a call we answer to.

After dealing with the grunts, it's time to fight Commander Saturn and a hostaged Sir Backlot in a tag battle with your rival, which is pretty straightforward, as my rivals Snorlax does a lot of in the fight. With Galactic vanquished from the manor, I'm now allowed to get my Trophy Garden encounter, which is a Pichu. Then I go grab my route 212 encounter, which is a Roselia, backtrack to 208 and nab a Smeargle, and to start the path to Veilstone, my 209 encounter is a Snubbull.... that I don't catch because it roars me 1st turn while I tried to yawn it to sleep.

On the way to Solaceon, I stop by the Lost Tower, and pick up a Shuppet. I grab the Psychic TM from Lucian outside of the Ruins that I teach instantly to Wormadam, and now I'm into Route 210, where I catch a Tauros... that took like 50 Pokeballs and nearly killed my whole party. Route 215 is connected to 210, and my encounter there is a Drowzee.

I arrive in Veilstone, and I immediately head for it's Department Store. I grab some evo stones to take Pichu all the way to Raichu, and evolve Roselia into Roserade. The E4's Bertha is also there to greet me, and she ever so kindly hands me the TM for Earthquake, which I promptly teach to my Swampert. I then get to the game corner, and nab some useful items like Focus Sashes, the orbs, the Flame Orb in particular, which gives me a great idea for the Maylene battle, and some herbs. Finally, there's a house that I grab the dubious disc from.

With all my affairs in order, it's time for Maylene.
>>
>>59325806
The team I bring to Maylene is a pre-burned Milotic, Wormadam Trash, Togekiss, Swampert, Infernape, and Gyarados.

Thanks to the flame orb I got from the game corner, I'm able to burn my Marvel Scale Milotic before the fight even starts, while giving it a much better held item in leftovers. It takes the lead vs Maylene's Medicham, and the idea was to use Marvel Scale to my advantage, but Medicham's Zen Headbutt does a lot of damage, so I'm forced to swap to Gyarados and kill it with a bounce.

Machamp is next, and I swap to Swampert on the Thunder Punch, then into Togekiss on the Close Combat, and I kill Machamp with Moonblast. Toxicroak comes in, and the very obvious Poison Jab is blocked by Wormadam-Trash's steel typing, and I simply kill with that Psychic from the TM Lucian gave me. Next is Maylene's Infernape, and I go back to Swampert, on Fire Punch, and kill with Earthquake, but not before Infernape's Close Combat gives me a scare by leaving Swampert on 22 HP.

Gallade is in next, I swap back into Togekiss on the Drain Punch that does next to nothing, I use encore to lock it in, and eventually kill it with 2 Moonblasts. Finally, it's Maylene's ace, Lucario. Which is handled pretty easily. It goes for the Flash Cannon, but I swap to my own Infernape, and Fake Out -> Close Combat, and Maylene is down without any casualties. Sad that the Marvel Scale trick didn't work out like I was hoping, but can't complain about deathless.

The level cap goes up to 44, and a path to Pastoria City, and the move relearner opens up, which means I can teach Piloswine Ancient Power, and evolve it to Mamoswine. The next gym is Crasher Wake, where my last run came to an end, so here's to hoping it goes better than the last time.

I did it. Just beat the BB League. Both Drayton and Kieran are defeated.

Against Drayton and it stressed me out and all his pokemon did deal alot of damage. First I sent out Tinkaton and Tsareena, I terrestrialised Tinkaton and took out Flygon with Play Rough while Tsareena Stomped on Dragonite causing it to flinch, next came out Haxorus who survived a Play Rough only because of a Focus Sash and got finished off with a Stomp, though Dragonites Ice Spinner nearly killed Tsareena so I switched her out and out came Luxray, Tinkaton killed Dragonite with Play Rough but then Kingdra used Rain Dance, fearing the worst, I switched Luxray with Clodsire and Clodsire took the Hydro Pump with its immunity while Tinkaton Played Rough with Kingdra and killed it, next came Sceptile along with his scary ace Archaludon which he terrestrialised but knows Steel type moves, first I switched out Tinkaton and sent in Skeledirge while Clodsire used Sludge Wave poisoning Archaludon and dealing damage to Sceptile, this would take a while and require a few healings but eventually Skeledirge killed Sceptile with Torch Song, with one down left, I sent out Tinkaton to finish the job, Archaludons last move was a Dragon Pulse which doesn't effect Tinkaton and finally a Play Rough ended the battle.
>>
And against Kieran. This was fucking hard, I felt like a pokemon could die and he kept using tough moves that pokemon of mine did nearly get fucked. First I sent out Tinkaton and Luxray, immediately I terrestrialised Tinkaton and used Play Rough against his Dragonite while Luxray used Thunder Wave to paralys his Politoed, this helped as Politoed kept being unable to attack despite its moves being a problem throughout the battle. After two Play Roughs beat his Dragonite, Kieren sent out Porygon Z, I decided to switch out Luxray for the more tanks Clodsire who tanked though was nearly killed with a Hyper Beam, Tinkaton quickly finished Porygon Z off with a Gigaton Hammer, next came his Incineroar which I wasn't expecting, I had Clodsire use Toxic Spikes while a Fake Out did slow Tinkaton down but eventually a few Play Roughs took it out, next came Grimmsnarl who got poisoned, Gigaton Hammer and Poison Jab managed to take it out and then Kieran sent out his Hydrapple in which he terrestrialised the thing into a fighting type, regardless despite its best efforts to nearly kill Tinkaton, Play Rough killed it, Clodsire also helped with Poison Jab and the poison status effect, finally I felt I could rest, I sent back Clodsire and sent out Luxray to quickly finish Politoed off with Wild Charge, it is over.

I'm tired and I need a nap.
>>
>>59327494
Nope. Both where hard. I still won but I nearly lost pokemon I didn't want to lose. I'm sweating right now and I'm gonna go to bed.

The road to Wake begins with... a Feraligatr death in the Galactic tag battle, because Lucas is terrible, leaving me to fight in a 1v2, and forcing me to lose a mon. I chose Feraligatr to be the sacrificial lamb, because he's the easiest to be replaced. With that frustrating moment, I move down to Route 214, where I catch a Rhyhorn. The entrance to maniac tunnel is on 214, so I enter and pick up a Dragon Pulse TM. Along with my encounter, a Diglett. Unlucky.

Further south is the Valor Lakefront, where we get the Energy Ball TM, and pick up a Nidorina encounter. Entering Pastoria City, I immediately head to a body of water I can fish in. Now earlier, I did not pick up my Eterna City encounter, because I play with a dupes clause, meaning I can't catch a Pokemon I already caught, so the encounter has to be rerolled. The Eterna City lake only has 3 encounters, Magikarp, Poliwag, and Dratini. The Pastoria City Lake also has 3 encounters. Magikarp, Poliwag, and Carvanha. So if I catch a Poliwag, I'm guaranteed to have the Dratini encounter back in Eterna. So I go ahead and fish... and I do land the Poliwag, so I set off back to Eterna City and catch the Dratini.

Returning to Pastoria, we learn that Wake is not in his gym, so we go to Route 212 to find him, and right before we enter the gym, it's Barry who's ready for another rival fight. I take advantage of my Golem's sturdy ability to kill Staraptor without any issues. Breloom comes in next, and I swap to Infernape. Fake Out -> Flame Wheel kills the Focus Sash Breloom, and then Infernape chains Empoleon and Snorlax kills with Close Combat.

Out comes Arcanine next, and I go to Rhydon for the kill. Heracross is Barry's last Pokemon, which is effortlessly killed with a Bounce+Crunch from Gyarados. With most of my business being done, it's time for my revenge on Wake for ending my last run.
>>
>>59328752
What makes Crasher Wake hard is that he has rain in his gym, combined with Pokemon with the ability Swift Swim. Obviously, the way to counter this is to simply change the weather. Which is exactly what I do with Glaceon. I use hail, and Glaceon has the ability Snow Cloak, which contributes to Quagsire missing Aqua Tail, and I kill the next turn with a crit Ice Beam.

Next is Poliwrath, and I swap to Togekiss, and kill it with 2 Moonblasts. In comes Gyarados. In what was a gamble, I click encore, and Gyarados used Dragon Dance. Now that it was locked into DD, I swap over to Raichu, and kill with 2 Thunderbolts. Out comes Floatzel. It uses Aqua Tail, Raichu survives, and kills with another Thunderbolt.

Next in from Wake is a Speed Boost, Focus Sashed Sharpedo. I go into my own Focus Sash mon in Dugtrio. It gets taken down to 1 HP, I use Sucker Punch to break the sash, but that means Dugtrio will have to take one for the team, dying in the only battle it participated in. Breloom however, cleans it up with a Mach Punch.

Crasher Wake's final Pokemon is Ludicolo. I don't have any mon in my party with an SE move against it, and I end up deciding on trying Milotic. I get insanely lucky on my first Moonblast and get the Sp.Atk drop, which causes the incoming Energy Ball to only do 50%. Milo is faster, so I use recover safely, and let the Life Orb recoil do the work. Once I feel like it's low enough, I go back into the fully healthy Glaceon, take the Energy Ball that actually almost OHKO's, and return kill with Ice Beam. And with that, this is now my furthest run in Renegade Platinum.

The level cap jumps up to 53, which means Staraptor gets Brave Bird, and Roserade gets Leaf Storm. The box is pretty healthy as I move onto another Team Galactic subplot.

>it would be too easy to guarantee you get the pokemon you want
In most games it's never a guarantee, just an increased chance. Since the encounter table has to be set up for you to be able to do that in the first place. Plus, doing this usually involves going for Pokemon you normally wouldn't try and get. For example, in normal Platinum w/ dupes clause, if you want a Heracross, you'll have to use the honey tree on Valley Windworks, and most likely have to catch something like a Cherubi, Combee, or Burmy, instead of trying to catch a Buizel, Shinx, Tentacool, or Shellos.

The stretch between Crasher Wake and Byron in Canalave in this game is a strange one. It's long, and not much really happens. I forgot to get my Route 213 encounter on my way to Pastoria, but not on my way out. It's a Floatzel. I chase down the galactic grunt that bombed the Safari Zone. With Cynthia handing me the Secret Potion as a reward.

I clear out the Psyduck at Route 210, and I make my way to Celestic Town. Right before entrance, Lucas wants a battle, which is little more than a formality. In Celestic Town, I grab the Choice Specs from an NPC, defeat the Galactic Grunt in front of the ruins, and I battle Cyrus for the first time. Which is also very anti-climatic, as Infernape and Raichu are the only Pokemon needed to cleanly sweep his team. With Cyrus removed from Celestic Town, Cynthia tells me to go visit Prof. Oak in Pal Park, southeast of Sandgem Town, and her grandmother gives me the HM Surf in order to do so. First things first, I nab my encounter from Route 211, just west of Celestic. I land the best encounter in that grass in Bagon. With the level cap at 53, I can immediately take it to Salamence and now it was off to Pal Park.

The trip to Pal Park was uneventful, but I do nab a Dodrio from the Route 211 grass. I speak to Prof. Oak, directs me to the Princess of the Battle Castle, and member of Unova's Elite 4, Caitlin, and her employee, Darach, who asks for a battle. We can't say no, as it's required to get to Canalave.

Togekiss leads vs his Gallade, and 2 Moonblasts kill. Out comes Empoleon, and Swampert handles it effortlessly. Alakazam is next, I pivot to Skuntank, and OHKO with a Sucker Punch. I dodge the Earthquake by swapping into Gengar, and kill with a Shadow Ball. In comes Staraptor, and I go into Tauros for the Intimidate, I manage to kill with a Giga Impact, but Tauros dies to Darach's last Pokemon, Entei because Giga Impact's recharge turn. Swampert comes back in for the kill, and now we have access to Canalave.

Just wrapped my old platinum save (not a nuzlocke), so I can get the suffering started
I remember vanilla Cynthia being harder, one X-Speed and one Swords Dance while her Spiritomb does chip damage and you can sweep her whole team with Garchomp.

Oh yeah, i even instituted a series-wide dupes clause for my runs thanks to how good Golem is in HGSS. It can be used to get what you want, but whether you actually get the encounters you need to guarantee, for example, a Gible from Wayward Cave is another matter.

Decided to continue with mono Ground in Ruby. So far not much of a challenge, Geodude and Mudkip are two of the best mons in the game, but this little Nincada has been pulling her weight too. I initially only caught her so Mudkip wouldn't get past the first level cap but with the double 2x Grass weakness the team has, she very quickly made herself indispensable. The second Rival fight would've literally been imposible without her.

>Lose a mon to an arena trap wild encounter
>Lose another one the next fucking encounter due to failing to flee followed by a super effective move
That aside I wanted to ask how to handle the fact Renegade Platinum just gives you the starters you didn't pick in Sangem.
Should I just let myself pick one of them for my Sandgem encounter or is that a bit ridiculous.

There's a patch of RenPlat that gives you one of the other two Sinnoh starters at random, and gives you one random Kanto/Johto/Hoenn starters when you're gifted them. But it also removes the guaranteed Beldum, guaranteed Gabite, and guaranteed Lapras. Gives you a portable PC too

I was trying to use Dragon Tail to prevent Rollout from snowballing, but Tyrunt missed. I was ill-prepared and was considering which party members to sacrifice since Rollout 3 seemed like certain death (Beldum was in yellow health). Tyrunt was able to tank Rollout3-5 thanks to X-defend but was left in red multiple times. I seriously thought I would lose 2-3 Pokémon in that one battle and be forced to reset.

Shortly after arriving in Canalave, I fight Barry once again on the bridge. Barry's team hasn't really changed the past couple of times I fought him, so I dispose of him the same way I normally do. What seems to be a common trend for gym leaders in Sinnoh, Byron isn't in his gym, but rather, on Iron Island, so I go after him. Arriving on Iron Island, Byron tells me to go train a little in the cave before challenging him, which I so graciously oblige.

Blocking the entrance to the cave is Riley, who asks for a battle, and uh, I kind of almost wiped? Infernape one taps the lead Absol, I go to Salamence on the Metagross Meteor Mash, and kill with a Flamethrower. In comes Riley's own Salamence. He gets off the Intimidate so I go to Rhydon on the Fly, which is perfect because it lines perfectly with the Stone Edge I use. Except that Stone Edge becomes Stone Miss, and now, I trigger Gen 4's switch AI, and it switches over to Lucario. I'm in a little bit of a bind, because while Salamence is the easy move, it's already at 50%, and is likely at risk of dying, but there's no real other way I can go, and I make the swap to Salamence, who gets off the intimidate, lives on 22 HP, and I swap back into Infernape for another Close Combat kill. Riley's Salamence is back in, and I'm right back where I was, so I repeat my original process of going to Rhydon, and the same exact thing happens. I miss the Stone Edge, and now Rhydon is at 30 HP.

Now, in RenPlat, every trainer uses these 2 AI flags.
>Expert
>Eval attack
Essentially what this means, is that the AI will always know how much damage each of their moves do to your Pokemon, know the exact HP number of your Pokemon at every point in a battle, know whether or not it'll move first, know specific properties of certain moves, and they'll select moves accordingly. Since I'm at 30 HP, Salamence can hit me with anything, and more importantly, it can't use Dragon Dance.
>>
>>59336599
So, I swap into Golem, take 2 Dragon Rushes, and kill with 2 Rock Slides of my own, with an assist from the Custap Berry allowing me to move first. Ursaring comes out next, I swap to Gengar, then back to Infernape and Close Combat chain kills Ursaring and Slaking, and now it's off to the Iron Island mines

After helping Riley defeat the galactic grunts in Iron Island, and also helping myself to a Nosepass encounter, I was able to tell Byron to get back to his real job, so I could take his gym badge. Byron is.. pretty easy in most games, and Renplat is no different. Charizard kills his lead Bronzong with 2 flamethrowers, chains a kill onto Steelix with a 3rd, then out comes Aggron. Aggron Head Smashes into my swap into Swampert. I use bulldoze once before swapping to Poliwrath to finish it with a Close Combat. In comes Magnezone for the obvious electric attack, and a quick swap to the original one, Rhydon, and sweep the rest of his team with nothing but Earthquakes. With that, I earn the mine badge, and with that, the level cap goes to 56. I'm at the point in the game where new level caps stop doing much, but I do get to cash in on the encounter manipulation from earlier, and evolve my Dratini into Dragonite.

After defeating Byron, it's time for another subplot as Team Galactic set off a bomb at Lake Valor, and it's time for me to save the day. I'm too late to save the Magikarp, but I do prevent any more damage by defeating Saturn in what was a very anti-climatic battle. The next stop in the 3 Great Lakes is Lake Verity, right off our hometown of Twinleaf. After smacking some grunts around in doubles, I reach Mars. At first, things go swimmingly, Glaceon kills Crobat, Infernape kills Bronzong, Magnezone kills Yanmega. Then....

In.
Comes.
Kangaskhan.
>>
>>59337011
I assume the fighting move is coming in, so I swap to Gengar. I looked away from the battle for a moment, so I didn't know what Kangaskhan did. But I do know that Gengar was healthy, so I assumed what I had believed to be true. So I swap to Infernape.

Double Edge comes in hard from Kangaskhan, and now Infernape is dead. I'm shocked, I said before that every trainer in this game uses AI flags. So the AI should never click Double Edge with a Gengar right in it's face. So I go to check what's the deal with Mars, and as I thought
>Basic AI
>Eval Attack AI
>Expert AI
It was as I thought, and then I notice it. Kangaskhan has scrappy, so the mother wasn't scared of no ghosts, and my starter, my pride and joy, the MVP of this run so far, had fallen for it. What makes the loss even more embarassing, is that Kangaskhan gets Scrappy in vanilla games. So me missing a crucial piece of knowledge, lost me a crucial mon. Charizard is my last fire type, so I'll have to be extra careful with it's usage, as there's no other encounterable fire type for the rest of the game, unless I land the 2/15 chance of Entei/Moltres at the Victory Road portal. If I even decide to go for it.

Anyhow, I finish off Kangaskhan by intimidating with Staraptor, then finishing it off with Empoleon, I swap to Gengar to finish Purugly, and that's that. The last lake is Acuity, up near Snowpoint City, where I'll try to recover from this devastating loss.

Dude I'm not a competive player why would I be interested in that trash?

The AI in Platinum is good as is. It allows emergent gameplay. The opposing trainer isn't a mind reader (well, most of them) and may overestimate your party's strength, leading to an ill-timed D-Dance.

Add that routine to the psychic trainers and I'm fine. Other than that is too much. The opposing ai shouldn't have access to that info.
>>
>>59337252
>why would I be interested in that trash?
I wasn't trying to advertise the game to you or anyone else. I, personally, find it fun though
>The AI in Platinum is good as is
I didn't mention it in the post, but these AI flags exist in vanilla platinum too. Something like an ill-timed DD comes from the result of the AI knowing that, at your current HP level, none of the damaging moves it has the potential kill you (since the AI also sees all potential damage ranges), so the AI is more likely to use a non-damaging move like Dragon Dance/Swords Dance.

The trip to Snowpoint is a long, but calm one. Once I get to snowpoint, I buy a protector, and I can finally evolve Rhydon into Rhyperior. However, Snowpoint itself proved to be a little bit of an ordeal. Like almost every other Sinnoh leader, god bless Maylene, you have to go fetch Candice and return her to her gym before you battle her, and that means a trip to Snowpoint Temple. To get inside, you have to battle 2 Ace Trainers in a double battle. And it goes a little haywire. Thanks to me forgetting that reflect was up, Breloom fails to OHKO Tyranitar with a Drain Punch and dies to a Fire Blast. I had to suicide bomb Staraptor into the Meganium that put up Reflect in the first place, and Staraptor dies to the Rock Slide. I finish the rest of the battle without much issue, but that's another two good Pokemon down. Already feeling the effects of not having Infernape anymore. I get inside the Temple, fetch Candice after her and Maylene calm down a Re-weakening Regigigas, and she returns to her gym.

Candice Time.

I lead Gengar into her Abomasnow, that sets up Hail with it's Snow Warning. I OHKO with Sludge Bomb. In comes Weavile, I swap to Swampert. Swampert takes a crunch, and then an Icicle Crash that brings it down to 27 HP, and I slow Weavile down with Bulldoze, I then pivot to Milotic to kill with Moonblast. Here comes Froslass. I have nothing super safe, so I turn to sacrifice Swampert as it uses... Attract. I swap back to Milotic, take a Blizzard and Milotic gets Frozen.

I swap to Charizard, take a Thunderbolt, and kill with Flamethrower. Out comes Mamoswine. Charizard is scarfed, so I go for another flamethrower, but I miss the kill. Mamoswine kills with Stone Edge, and I pivot back to Gengar for the revenge kill. Since Gengar isn't actually faster than Glaceon, Gengar dies to Blizzard. With Milotic being frozen, and Glaceon outspeeding my entire team, I end up wiping to Candice in attempt 4.

Punished for not knowing Scrappy almost immediately.
