Actually I think it'd be better if Pokemon, a game with about 200 entries, got some sort of worldbuilding to connect them. It doesn't have to be sexual stuff (though old folklore usually is), but anything more than "uhh humans and pokemon used to be the same or something" (which had to be toned down even further for the west) would have been nice!

They accidentally did in PLA, but then decided to course correct in the sequel because Gamefreak thinks its fanbase is retarded. Maybe they're right!

Hell the Teraleak further emphasized that.
I mean, gen 3's original project name was Atlantis, Metagross is based on the Antikythera and obvious Spear Pillar, Volo's outfit is a toga and quite a few other locations and aspects in gens 3 and 4 have vague or very direct Greek inspirations.
There's also the fact that the serpent that chased Apollo and Artemis' mother, Python, was also heavily associated with Chthonic forces, as in primordial sources of the underworld and also chaos.
There's a few parallels that can be drawn.
