If you are looking to capture shadow Pokemon then they are gonna get slammed by super effective shadow attacks.Vaporeon and Umbreon are solid. Umbreon has terrible offensive power and Vaporeon doesn't get surf so you are relegated to Hydro Pump or Water Pulse. But both are bulky and can tank shadow hits.

>>59301349I believe the speedrun uses Espeon simply for the pure offensive firepower. 130 base attacking stat with a 90 base power STAB move and enough speed to outrun basically everything in the game when EVs are taken into account. Jolteon is just a budget Espeon, and the rest struggle to do anything.

But it’s slow and its STAB is weak because of its mediocre special attack, so it’s definitely still worse than Espeon and Jolteon.
