Why must I always be a kid in pokemon games? I just wanna play with my team as myself, a long-haired bearded adult man. We'll never have main characters in different age ranges and with different body types?

TL;DR: Trainer customization is still very limited. Even on Champions, that's supposed to have the best and more seasoned trainers, there are only children.
>>
There should also be customization options for the pokemon themselves with accessories, for example. I want to be able to use a Gengar doll as the Substitute decoy instead of the classic green dino.

Gotta design the game around an teenager or adult character. Visual changes mean jackshit if the insides are still mid.
>>
>>59314311
That's feasible. Most pokemon players are adult men anyway, older mc in a little less childish game wouldn't hurt sells
>>
>>59314304
Nah that doesn't fit the tone. I could see potential in a clean shaven young adult (18-22ish) protag though
>>
>>59314382
You can have your clean shaven mc, I wanna have my beard. I don't see why we shouldn't have both options.

>Why must I be a child? I want to be a manchild instead!
Really dude?
Pokémon is a coming of age story. That's why Gen 1 references Stand By Me. It's about childlike wonder and an utopia where it's safe for children to explore their world and grow as a person with the experiences they make on their journey. If you're a child, you can self-insert. As an adult, it should invoke a certain sense of nostalgia, or yearning for a youth you never had. It's not supposed to be your personal adult powerfantasy. You should play a game for adults for that. Pokémon is and will always be a child friendly franchise.

Yeah, I know this is true about almost all of previous pokemon games, that's the point of the topic. We could have more options of customization that goes beyond this same old formula for a change. At least in one game (which don't even have to be a main series game for that matter)
>>

Pokemon GO literally exists for that. Do you live under a rock?
>>
>>59314886
Pokemon GO is stupid and its "battle system" is absolutely dumb & disgusting

>coming of age story
Lmao it's not even about that, it was always been "trying to be the best" since day 1. Beating your rival, the entire mafia, to the fucking government should speak for itself.

This is the same ignorant argument as comic writers when they get criticized for their writing and their excuse is "It's a kids' comic!!" Pokémon is not a "kids franchise" akin to fucking Paw Patrol; it's a family-friendly franchise that appeals to everyone, including grown men and the elderly. Playing as an adult wouldn't change that much as long as you already know its tier. Also, the main characters in each mainline entry aren't even implied to be 10-year-olds; it's just some 4Kids dub bullshit to make it appeal to literal toddlers. It was always early or late teens at best.

It's a marketing gimmick. Since gen4, pokemon increasingly includes waifu-mons and increasingly suggestive material to appeal to their aging male fanbase.

However, publicly acknowledging that woul put the plushie and merchandise sales at risk. So GF is trying to have it's cake and eat it too.

Yeah, if anything they make their MC designs too kiddy now. Back then they made more effort in making the protagonists look ambigiously older than their actual age because they knew making the MC look like an actual child would have it designated as a toddler game by the gamer audience. Kids want to play as a cool looking character, not someone that looks like Joey's next door neighbor.

Your team has more than six Pokemon
>>
>>59315894
This. All of this.
>>
>>59314306
Each game these days has about 300-400 Pokémon. Imagine being able to dress them up.
>>
>>59317027
The little gengar in the picture is a doll my pokemon use as a Substitute decoy. It's not really a pokemon, that's a legal team of six.

That's why they need to trim that number down. Imagine each game having only 151 pokemon. It would get the millenials back to playing more than pogo did.
>>
>>59317536
The original plan was 190 pokemon in the first games. Red & Green (& Blue & Yellow) having only 151 pokemon was solely due to a schedule constraint, because Game Freak hadn't programmers efficient enough to insert the other pokemon in the games on time.

There are no mistakes. Only happy accidents.

Except for my brother, though.

The target audience are kids

Here without the gengar substitute doll

The gengar is for fucking
>>
A game where you start as a kid and age with your pokémon would be kino
