>FAQ
>What is this?
People are turning into Pokemon in the real world. Some are having the time of their lives, and some are struggling to survive. These are their stories.
>How do I join?
Just start posting.
>What's the lore?
People and animals (and at least one tree) are changing at random in their sleep, waking up still in the real world, but now as Pokemon, and nobody knows why (that includes you. Please don't try to explain it). Just enough transformations are occurring to notably change day-to-day life without collapsing civilization. This is not the apocalypse, even if it might feel like it to some characters in the moment. Some people are more in touch with their instincts than others, and some have lost more of their humanity than others. That's about it. Avoid legendaries if possible.
>What the Hell is PIPS?
In many of the stories, the scientific community in-universe has begun referring to Pokemon instincts and the loss of humanity some people who transform experience as Pokémon Induced Psychosis Syndrome, or PIPS. The term is explained in more detail here: https://rentry.org/sip-concepts

>You sat there waiting.
>Not wanting to leave her alone.
>She looked strangely peaceful while sleeping.
>It was strangely uncanny.
>Maybe because it was the first time you saw her like that.
>A pillow made of hair and the blanket obscured most of her head.
>You lost the sense of time as you didn't know how much time had passed.
>You only noticed it when you checked the time on your phone just to get flashbanged by the screen.
>It was already dark, and you didn't notice.
>Not only that, you noticed that your breath was visible in the phone light.
>Like a boiled frog, but in reverse.
>You stood up and wandered towards the light switch to check if the power had returned in the meantime.
>You flicked it once, you flicked it twice, but nothing happened.
>What you did notice was that the air was comparatively warmer.
>You turned around to look at Layla while leaning your back against the wall.
>Was she having a nightmare?
>Or was it something else?
>She wasn't exuding this amount of cold when she first showed up at your place.
>Has it been so long that you forgot how it felt?
>You did end up with some frostbite.
>But only in the places where her claws phased through your body and where her tears landed.
>Maybe a blanket was enough to insulate it from her.
>Then again, she woke up in a better state of mind.
>Now you didn't know if she would do the same.
>And honestly, you doubted that it would reoccur.
>You rubbed your hands together, trying to regain some of the warmth you lost.
>The option to go for a jacket was there.
>But something was keeping you from going to get it.
>Layla was in your house; she confided in you, and in a certain way she was now your responsibility.
>And your fault.
>You did drag her with you on Halloween.
>At the end of the day, you did save someone that day by dooming someone else.
>The thought that if you didn't take her along, she wouldn't have ended up like this crossed your mind.

What's CopAnon planning here? You've got me curious, now
>>
>>59315791
Not bad
>>
Reminder: You don’t have to have a multi-part story in mind to contribute. Short posts about how someone who became a certain Pokémon would live their daily lives are appreciated too.
>Anon turned into a Mimikyu and builds a collection of life size plushies to inhabit
>Centiskorch chef trying not to burn the food as they cook it with their tiny legs
>Pilot of a major airline wakes up as a Zebstrika
>Anon deals with their bulldog becoming a Granbull overnight

Nothing special, just that you need hands and feet to fly a plane. Something that a zebra has neither of.
>>
>>59319332
That would cause some problems. Fortunately commercial airliners and all other reasonably large aircraft have copilots specifically for medical emergencies.

Alright, let's see...

I guess the folks for the 11 AM service had either just arrived or were just about to arrive, but that could've been made a little clearer. The transition from Isaac being thankful to the minister immediately showing up feels like it's supposed to be a joke, but it's a little too awkward to land right. Also awkward are some of the word and phrase repetitions like the second "needs help" or the two "looked"s in paragraph 9. I also notice the minister switches from "it" to "him", which seems like a writing mistake on the surface, but might actually be the minister wrestling with the fact that (many) transformees are very much human

Either way, it's interesting how he reacts - more concerned about the potential consequences of a panic than of the danger a Pokemon itself poses. This has the potential to lead into a deeper insight about the minister's character. Perhaps his faith really is waning in light of all this madness despite his protestations to the contrary and he made a (correct) snap judgement call that the Typhlosion wasn't dangerous, perhaps he's concerned with the possible reputational damage to the church if a panic were indeed to ensue (or if the congregation even found out that he and Isaac have had close encounters with Pokemon), perhaps he's too passive to be an effective leader, like Curly from Mouthwashing, or perhaps he just trusts Isaac that deeply, especially after recent events. Any of these and others besides could be interesting angles to take if you wanted to develop the guy's character more.
>>
>>59326733
"God's chosen janitor" made me chuckle. It's interesting how Phlocamper here seems to be completely instinct-low and PIPS-free... except for his name... That can serve as a fun character gimmick or a potential lead-in to something worse down the line. Speaking of, Isaac's assurances that everything will be fine very much makes me think that things will NOT, in fact, be fine with Phlocamper's friend, but given that we've already seen violent rejection from Kayden's family, I'd actually be interested to see Phlocamper receive a different kind of reception, feeding into that broader notion of having this story focus more on untransformed humans' reactions to the events we've discussed previously. Maybe the friend reacts a little TOO excited and is eager to take advantage of the situation in some way, but that's just one idea.

>>59315979
You do need to look after yourself in order to be able to look after her, Copanon. It won't be any good for her if you get incapacitated. Honestly, the flow here is a tiny bit disjointed, but maybe that's intentional to have his thoughts feel fragmentary as he tries to puzzle this out. I wouldn't beat yourself up, though, man - something was bound to trigger the H. Zoro instincts sooner or later, and at least this way she has you to try and help her through it. I agree with 6235 that we DO need a plan here, though...

Maybe we're all over-thinking this. Maybe you could just start with a simple, pleasant gesture to show that you're there for her. Like ice cream. Or hot chocolate. Whichever her condition makes her more predisposed to, I suppose.
>>
>>59326734
Gonna include hot chocolate in the next segment.
>>
>Early in the Pokémon transformation crisis
>People are panic buying at the store, still thinking it’s a pandemic
>You’re just trying to buy food for yourself
>Shelves are bare
>Except…
>There’s several boxes of Pokémon branded frozen waffles, yogurt, and bunches of bananas with a Pokémon brand sticker on them
>
>Do you take them?
>They’re probably safe.
>But everyone else has avoided them.
>It would be probably be enough to get you through a couple days before the next trucks arrive.
>Would eating them really cause you to transform?
>What are the odds that eating Pokémon food would actually turn you into a Pokémon?
>It’s gotta be small right?
Would you do it?
>>
>>59328237
Yeah, I'd do it. Branded merchandise shouldn't be imbued with any power.
>>
>>59328237

the only downside is you'll probably end up as a kanto pokemon since those are the only ones that show up on food products so there's that.

the real question would be this: how would the pokemon card scalpers react if such things were to happen? the ones that loiter would probably think twice...

another question to consider: would pokemon merch lose value since well, now they are real, would it be banned in general or would nobody give a shit? would society drastically change?

also, were do we stand with abilities, attacks, items, etc?

>also, were do we stand with abilities, attacks, items, etc
Power levels are at pretty reasonable levels in the bigger stories, and they should stay that way. Having pokemon do some of the DBZ-level nonsense the pokedex entries and move descriptions say they can do means things get absurd fast.

The New Police Animals mentions oran berries, I think. That's about it as far as 'items' go. No luxuries of teleportation and pokeballs or whatever. Real world, present day, actual tech is the setting.

>>
>>59331277
>so kids don't become pokemon?
Kids do become Pokemon, and they're a couple of the more tragic cases. ChurchAnon has a kid Hoppip living with him because his own family rejected him, and LucarioAnon has a single dad Zoroark whose Zorua son has lost himself to PIPS.

>Little Timmy, what do you want to be when you grow up?
An Astronaut!

come to think of it, can a little kid become a fully evolved pokemon?
>>
>>59332956
I don't see why someone couldn't, but I don't think anyone's written a story where someone's gone through enough post-transformation to evolve and hasn't already reached the final form for the line.

This is why and how pandemics spread. Granted becoming a Pokémon isn’t a virus, but still.

Philosophical tangent:
Why is life without work is so unimaginable? If you did get turned into a ghost like a Haunter, or even something like a real life snake, what do you actually do with your time? You don’t need to feed that often. Find a mate? You still have the human capacity for expression and drive. Or is this all just “first world problems” rambling because I’m fortunate enough that my needs are met and I’ve never had to actually fight for survival?
>>
>>59344594
>This is why and how pandemics spread.
Work is just one of the dozen ways in which people meet and pandemics spread. Humans are social creatures, without work we meet in leisure instead.

>Why is life without work is so unimaginable?
Capitalistic brainrot, at least in the way people usually talk about "work", i.e. "earn money". This is because "work" is highly prestigious and people put their whole self worth behind it, they cannot imagine being happy without it. If we didn't have to work for food or survival, some people would pursue the same tasks/careers they do now, because it's fulfilling. Many other people, who were previously shackled to the limited set of activities of which monetary value can be extracted, would become freer in pursuing hobbies and participating in society in other ways, as long as the barrier to entry to these activities (usually money) is also lowered. See also the discourse surrounding the "boredom epidemic" during the industrial revolution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96oaIAC5nUs

While turning into a pokemon might change your ability to do certain things, I think most would find something to do, anyway. It isn't exactly hard to imagine activities you can do with your gained abilities (with your examples: phasing through walls/slithering up walls), not needing to do as much for survival doesn't mean you won't do things for self worth/satisfaction.

The struggle clearly paid off. Our Hawlucha student is the first other Pokémon in your story, isn't it? Glad to finally have another character! As much as I enjoyed the perspective from Sean, now having a potential outside perspective opens up a lot of interesting interactions. Will they meet beak to beak? Will they have a deep dive on how being a bird-thingy feels like? Oh, will they learn to fly together? You're still blue-balling us with that. Either way, I'm looking forward to the next part already.

You did mention that Sean had to learn to speak properly with his new beak at one point. Changed physiology and the struggle to cope with them is something that hasn't been explored in many stories yet. I guess partially because most protags are humanoid, and probably also because its hard to write without coming off as fetish-y. But how does it feel to suddenly have your knees bend the other way or having to walk on all fours? What about the digitigrades or the ones with abnormally long/short or completely new appendages? I hope to read (and write myself) more on that topic. I got a certain spider in my mind.

I got a quick question for all of you. I'm currently in the process of improving the WBIA part I posted last thread. Shall I just update the Rentry and post the link or do you all want the updated green posted here as well? I'm asking because it would likely be a 15 post behemoth, unless I break it up again. I kinda don't want to break it up, though, because it's not something wholly new.
I mainly add some flavour here and there to make it flow better or give you a better feeling of what is going on (in Etienne's head).

Don't get too hyped up, it's not a full blown rewrite, but more of an additional draft with some extras sprinkled on top to not be too much of a repost. The posted chapter had around 22k characters, while I aim for 25-30k after I fix the most egregious sections. (If you had any nitpicks/suggestions from the original post last thread, now'd be the time to post them, btw.)

Sounds like you should get in touch with your family regardless, since right now you're isolated and spiraling. 44594 raises a good point that it might be worth figuring out what you CAN do in this new form rather than fretting about what you can't. It sounds like you're instinct-low, so you probably don't have to worry as much about falling down the PIPS rabbit hole if you start trying out your new ghost powers. 44788 has the right of it.

I was sympathetic with your plight, Hawluchanon... right up until you said this... Sounds like you aren't getting punished for mildly embracing the instincts of your new form and doing some wrestling, but rather feeling the consequences of your own actions. Granted you could argue that you dropping the classes is the result of PIPS, but if that's the case then the university letting you keep your scholarship and ensuring you can still complete the classes in some fashion IS them being sympathetic. Hopefully you can learn to strike a healthy balance between your human and Pokemon needs.

What does television end up looking like in the /sip/ universe? You might have a few shows do their “very special episodes” that mention Pokémon being real and how it affects everyone, and then what? How does your average sitcom, procedural drama, or soap opera handle it?
>Continue as status quo and decide to ignore the existence of Pokémon
>Pivot the plot of the show to include Pokémon and make non-human characters part of the recurring cast
The hospital builds a Pokémon wing and they deal with new kinds of patients, and the plucky new Leavanny head of medicine
>Introduce Pokémon in the background and slowly into the main cast but never make a big deal out of it
One day you just see an Arcanine walking around the halls in the background and an Audino working the reception desk with no special attention given.
>>
>>59363849
It would probably be ignored right until people got angry about being ignored for being Pokemon, or not cast for roles that they could play fine because the director's image in their mind wasn't a Pokemon while it also didn't particularly matter whether or not the actor was human in the first place.
>>
>>59364276
I don’t know, think about how many shows had token references to face masks. Media loves a chance to jump on the bandwagon and virtue signal.
>Tonight’s episode of “Tim Allen is Still on TV?!” is dedicated to all of the people bravely navigating their new lifestyle with PIPS. Production was completed humanely following expert advice from the WHO.
>>

What "the media loves to do" has ulterior motives. Addressing PIPS doesn't touch the existing stuff until some corpo-shitheel gunning for Acceleration towards The Revolution figures out how to weaponize it in their politics.

Kinda hard to predict what would happen, desu. I guess it would depend on the country and how much the producers give a shit about it. I could see some high production value documentary that follows a few turnees around their daily life as well, to spin it in a more positive direction.
Or just imagine David Attenborough narrating over some Mon like a nature documentary.

>He goes to local markets in the area and sells the mushrooms himself with his wife/daughter/family/friends, becoming somewhat of a local celebrity in the process.
The idea came to me after I watched a documentary about a small French town (I think it was near Marseille?) that is seemingly obsessed with truffles, even using them as some form of currency and all of that.

Nothing like a brawl with this playing in the background.

(I assume, I’ve never even heard anyone raise their voice at the Waffle Houses I’ve been to)

Tangentially related, have you guys seen those posts of people visiting the USA and learning about the food and culture and such? I love seeing people enjoy learning about something foreign to them. Imagine a world far enough from the onset of Pokémon where types or species of mon have developed their own niche cultures outsiders learn about.
>Fighting types around the world have developed an honor code for engaging combatants
>Psychics have a mental internet they shitpost on
>Flying types flock together to save energy like geese V formation
>Electric types aways have home solar and wind generators in their homes to top-off
How exciting would it be to have new customs and traditions in the world
>>
>>59365936
I don’t suppose you have the link to the video? Might be a good place to start, seeing what prompted the idea in the first place.
>>
>>59365966
Unfortunately I don't know what series it was, but it was in French anyway.
Found the city it was about, though. It's Richerenches: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richerenches
I don't expect anything from my little idea, but the town looked hella charming, which fits the general mood here.

The people coming to the US and experiencing the country for the first time and loving it is one of the most white-pilling experiences in years.
>>
>>59366028
Same goes for Americans experiencing other cultures and countries and realising that their stereotypes about them don't really hold up. Had many run-ins with such specimens. Somewhat xenophobic at first, huge fans after. Travelling abroad is the best white pill in existence.
I wonder how people turning into Mons would change stereotypes, though.
>Morocco has a higher turn rate for bird pokemon. Does the stereotype shift to them being bird-brains?

Disbelieving the news might be sort of understandable, but how do you miss an explosion in your own hotel, or the fact that the employee you just sent up there is probably wounded, quite possibly covered in plaster dust, and most certainly looks like they've seen a ghost? Whilst anon sending their manager up there definitely isn't okay, they WERE just almost killed, and this manager had already fostered a toxic, Soviet-style work environment where messengers get shot and bad news is swept under the rug rather than acknowledged and given systematic fixes, so I'm inclined to give them a LITTLE slack over failing to raise the alarm here. Still, the wide variety of possible fallout from this situation WOULD be interesting to read if you wanted to continue this.

Yes, but consider that your average human doesn’t have unique abilities that could protect or threaten national security. Imagine the effort and money they would be willing to spend to ensure they have a Metagross before anyone else.

>Maybe there was a way to do it without her.
>But Mag just said that she wouldn't interfere if you were in the "correct" timeline, or whatever she meant by it.
>For someone who could see the future, she is extremely shortsighted, as she added more problems for you to solve.
>Also that you have or would have common friends in the future.
>Do Lisa, Derek, or Layla know her?
>Was Mag even her real name?
>It doesn't matter.
>Not yet, at least.
>If you knew there was a better timeline, you'd take it.
>Then again, you still took Layla with you on that trip so she'd help you with it.
>She did agree to come with you; you told her what might happen if she does.
>And yet that fact didn't help with the guilt.
>Maybe she wanted to fight.
>Your thought process was disturbed, however, by two brightly glowing yellow eyes glowing on the couch.
>"You can't leave me alone, can you?" She said with an exhale.
>"Do you want me to?" You replied.
>"No. I just thought that you'd go at least once to take a piss or something." She replied.
>Her tone was more collected, less resembling the verbal equivalent of the 1000-yard stare she had before.
>"Do you feel better after some sleep?" You asked her.
>"Sleep..." She said before being silent for a moment to gather her thoughts. "I didn't sleep. I couldn't. I just pretended to. What are illusory eyelids to someone who can be anything?"
>"Why didn't you tell me? I could have tried to help you." You asked, trying to understand her.
>"Help me?" She replied in a somewhat mocking tone. "What can you even do to help me? Be there for me?"
>She exhaled once more.
>"I'm sorry. I didn't... I didn't want to seem ungrateful, but..." She said before stuttering again.
>"But?"
>"... I don't think you can do anything to help me." She continued with a low tone.
>"What makes you think that?"
>"Well what makes you think you CAN help me?" She countered passive-aggressively.
>Her reply made you stop in your tracks.
>What could you do?
>>
>>59367737

>You went into your thoughts again.
>Trying to find a thread you could grasp.
>There had to be something, anything, you could at least try doing.
>After going through your mind, which felt like ages, you got an idea.
>She encountered a Gholdengo, which was a ghost type.
>It shouldn't have triggered her omnicidal urges on that account.
>At least you thought so.
>You just assumed that ghost typing was enough to be classified as not alive for her instinct's sake.
>You were dragged out of your thoughts by her rustling on the couch and realigning herself with her breathing in deeply.
>"Tell me." She said with a certain mix of calmness that followed into an undertone of tension. "Did you lie when you said that I wasn't the worst case you encountered?"
>The lie you said in the heat of the moment has finally caught up to you.
>And you only knew that you couldn't keep that lie up anymore.
>Guilt washed over you.
>"I did." You said.
>You felt like you were admitting to a crime that would send you to the 9th circle of hell.
>For what it mattered, you might be going there next.
>You waited for her to make a move for your throat, but that didn't happen.
>All you heard was a small chuckle from her.
>"Thank you." She replied with all of that initial energy deflating like a balloon back into that sense of melancholy.
>You felt like a weight was taken off.
>And yet something still bothered you.
>Just as if said weight was anchored to your body with a series of knives that now left gaping wounds.
>"I..." She stuttered. "I wasn't honest with you either."
>"What do you mean?" You replied, somewhat taken by surprise.
>She took a deep breath once more.
>"The Trevenant wasn't my wrestling back control from my instincts... It was my second." She said with difficulty.
>As if she didn't want to say it but needed to.
>"When was the first one?" You asked to help her pull those metaphorical teeth out.
>>
>>59367738
>"When I almost caught that Lucario." She said with difficulties before pausing and continuing. "That's when I first lost myself to them."
>"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" You inquired further.
>"Because I didn't think that far at the time." She said with some irritation in her voice. "I just thought that those were some intrusive thoughts that I could ignore. If I only knew how much worse it would get later on..."
>She stopped for a moment and covered her eyes with her arms.
>"First I thought that it was some intrusive thoughts, then I thought that it was some form of OCD. By the time I ended up in that fight, I realized that my brain had been rewired, and I didn't notice."
>"What do you mean you didn't notice if you considered OCD as the culprit?" You asked now more confused than ever.
>"I don't know how to explain it to you. It is too... I don't know. Alien?" She said so before stopping to gather her thoughts. "It is like my mind can operate in two ways that I can somewhat control, but not completely. The closest thing I could even describe it as is like manual breathing or blinking."
>"I think I'm starting to understand." You said to her.
>"Hmm... Obviously." She replied and readjusted herself on the couch. "I noticed your blinking and breathing at a different rate."
>You were manually breathing and blinking.
>"Where are you going with this?" You asked for a continuation of the explanation.
>"Well think about my human behavior as my manual mode, while my Zoroark behavior is the automatic mode. You can stay in the manual mode for a while, but you will always return to the automatic mode without you even noticing."
>"So you are afraid of losing control without your knowledge?"
>"Not just. It is like breathing in the way that I have to do it. I can't just hold my breath forever because it just makes the urges worse."

I’ve been doing some research on owl and bird anatomy to try and figure out what a Decidueye would actually sound like. After going down a rabbit hole of conlangs, the answer actually struck me in the comment section of a video.
>I made up a corvid language in accurate corvid sounds.
>Crow, in perfect English: Ya did what, now?
Besides parrots, it turns out crows, ravens and other corvids are really good at making human speech too. Because of the Syrinx, even though they don’t have lips they can still approximate “labial” sounds that humans typically use their lips for. For example, a parrot saying “pretty bird”. There are plenty of crow and raven youtube channels out there. None of these are quite Owls, but I’ll call it close enough. Link your favorite!

Also, shout out to the Lyre bird. This stuff does not seem real. https://youtube.com/watch?v=mSB71jNq-yQ

How long after the transformations start will it be until there is a Pokémon elected official? Would people believe they can be faithfully represented by something of a different species?
Let’s say a politician in office when they get turned doesn’t count, but a turned incumbent up for reelection or a new candidate does count.

I’d vote for a Pidgeot for president if they shared my values, would you?
>>
>>59372177
Given the impacts of PIPS, a non-human president would be a very hard sell to anyone who remembers that the purpose of the President is to carry out the laws made by Congress, to represent the will and interest of their constituents who elected them.
