Would proto-Gardevoir have been as popular as the final one?

>Scrapped after May 2002, yet it might possibly have been reworked into the Ralts line, just based on their general shape, themes and palette, and considering Wally's connection to Red Spider Lilies in Pokémon RSE.

>Concept:
>It excels at sensing the emotions of others, using its antennae to feel the opponent's aura? It can manipulate others at will. It is often seen standing still, gazing at the sunset sky. Only females exist.

>Dex:
>(Ruby) It has long antennae that are highly sensitive, capable of sensing subtle air currents to understand the thoughts of its enemies.
>(Sapphire) It mesmerizes opponents with its dance-like movements and deep gaze, putting them into a hypnotic state. Only females of this species have been confirmed.

It's got that whoremon appeal but it looks like a grass type. Gardevoir being Alakazam at home is a big reason why it's popular. Being usable is what separates the shillmons from the flopmons
>>
>>59320742
the prototype WAS a grass type. All the braindead retards who thought gardevoir was a grass-type because it was green were unironically on to something.
>>
>>59320727
>this thing was going to be female only
I wonder if it got scrapped and Gardevoir ended up having a 50/50 gender ratio so that Wally could have a male one as his ace.

Happening to me as well, dunno what's triggering I tried formatting my post multiple times.

For me it was the minus sign

it probably would have been about as popular as roselia, i guess? gardevoir doesn't just have the story exposure factor, it's also a simple and elegant pretty elf lady instead of shortstack flower pixie #3, it's really unique in the series especially for its time. also what the other anon said, the fact it's good in game raises its stocks massively.

>it probably would have been about as popular as roselia, i guess?
It actually does kind of look like Roselia a bit. Seems more like Ryllidy got split into Roselia and the Ralts line. Fittingly, Wally has a Roselia too.

It would have surpassed gardevoir immensely. More striking vivid brighter color, larger head, larger more expressive eyes, eyeshadow/makeup,
It would have immediately stood out as not just the first real purposely made waifumon but slutmon too.
>>
>>59320797
Roselia and Ryllidy existed at the same time, but then again there's also situations like 2 "Castforms" existing at the same time, with the one we know more closely resembling an unrelated mon while the "actual" pokemon in the line got replaced later.

In any case, I wonder if the 2002 sprite is unfinished or it was an attempt at simplifying the colors.

Eeveelutions tho
>>

That was his point: "No it wouldn't be as possible because it is a grass type".
>>
>>59320755
Why did they want a fucking gardevoir to be his male ace lol
>>
>>59320821
Half of them have been good at some point or another, and some like Sylveon are still going strong.
The ones that have always been weak, like Flareon and Leafeon, have never been among the most popular.

Protector knight that can sense when his health deteriorates. His rest of his team is pretty feminine too with an Alteria, Delcatty, and Roselia, two of them also male. They must've thought that Gardevoir was androgynous enough to be read as either male or female after it took the role of Wally's ace from the spider lily mon, and made Gallade later when they realized they made it too feminine. And spider lillies commonly symbolize death, which might've given the wrong impression that Wally was dying from his illness, so a Psychic type that will always be by its trainer's side is a much nicer Pokemon to be associated with Wally. just my theory though

huh. I always thought that single pixel was its nostril and not its mouth
>>
>>59320874
Why don’t they give him a female ace so he can have a waifu

Amazing that I've never thought of it but it was weird that these Pokemon learned grass moves.
You could explain it by being magical move and cutting moves and that's the reason but there's actually a deeper reasoning.

Not many trainers have an ace that's the opposite gender, especially in older games where all pokemon matched the trainer's gender most of the time. Look at both of the gen 9 E4s, only two of them have an opposite gender ace.
>>
>>59320945
They did reuse some beta designs though, they've even talked about designs getting reworked over several gens that ended up being used way later
>>
Wasn't there a dog-like thing that was the psychic-type on his team in-between?
>>
>>59321195
we've seen beta pokemon for gen 3, 4, 5, 6 and it doesnt seem to be the case
maybe scraggy in gen 3 or shellos, leafeon was in gen 2 too

>sanic

This is just toon design 101.
If THAT grandmothered all other anthropomorphic waifumon to come, it would have been significantly more captivating upon debut than Gardevoir and would have received far more porn within our lifetime.
Gardevoir is the result of several stages of toning down.
>>
>>59321516
Maybe would have liked it more if Sharpedo had a normal body like this.
>>
>>59322007
>Segmented tail and dorsal fin is a different material
>normal
>>
>>59321988
Its lack of a human like body wouldve hurt its popularity in that regard. Its body is just a triangle. Gardevoir also has a more defined faux hairstyle and dress, and it has legs too. Ryllidy does have the colors and bedroom eyes, but Garde looking much closer to an adult woman in a dress is the main reason why it has so much porn.

To this day I find it insane how fucking bad most of the beta Hoenn designs were. Obviously there's that Sugi quote about making Pokemon that didn't "look" like Pokemon, but you can really see they took it too far to start with. Some were good like this one, but on the whole it's kind of a wtf dex. Plus the colors were just fucking awful, whoever started with all the pastels and shit hopefully got fired. Not sure how many of the sprites were considered finished but a lot of them look really rough, and it wouldn't surprise me if they were going to stick with them before overhauling lots of designs... just look at the Nat Dex sprites in RSE, so many of them have the same weirdness as the betamons (I beleieve they said they drew the first 251 to begin with as practice for GBA)
Whoever sat down and tardwrangled the designs from their bootleg/Neopet ass feel literally saved the franchise.
>>
>>59322043
They had a massive jump in the the amount of space and colors they could use. It was important to figure out what would work on the hardware, even if most of them were bad the first time around. Iteration.
>>
>>59322043
The actual hoenn designs weren’t much better. Pokemon design really fell off until Gen 5 and really Gen 7+
>>
>>59322415
>>59322043
like a solid 40% of Hoenn's pokemons are various trash filler mons
>>
>>59322452
That's a good ratio for a gen that introduced so many.

Would probably have been as popular as Roserade
Gardevoirs secret to popularity is just that its an incredibly well thought out and flexible design, its equally cool, mysterious, cute and sexy
