Does anyone else feel kinda sorry for fans that didn't grow up with the pokemania era of Pokemon?I don't even hate the post-pokemania games, I think they're just alright mostly. But when anyone that grew up with gen 3 onwards (arguably even 2) gives their take on anything relating to the franchise, I just regard it as noise. Knowing they won't ever really "get" Pokemon. You DS guys have my sympathy, really. You deserved to experience Pokemon as a kid, it was truly magical.
If you need nostalgia to appreciate a game, than that game was never good.I started with 4, i only like 1 and 2 because they were Tajiri passion project and not a soulless company
>>59323981Lol what a complete strawman. We don't need nostalgia to enjoy the games, and OP never insinuated otherwise.
>>59323981>>59323994Bruh the OP was obviously just taking the piss out of some other anon that made the exact same post but for the 3d era
>>59323972>You DS guys have my sympathyDon’t forget the Switch and 3DS too. I didn’t think it could get worse after the DS, but it somehow did.
>>59323981esl
damn, that other thread really got yawnie seething
>>59323972>Does anyone else feel kinda sorry for fans that didn't grow up with the pokemania era of Pokemon? As someone who did, absolutely not. Pokemania is a dumb meme by nostalgia-ridden retards who refuse to see the fact that Pokemon only succeeded because of marketing and they fell for that marketing. Now, they've got a sunk cost in the franchise.>Knowing they won't ever really "get" Pokemon.Pokemon was always a brand before it was a good game. That's always been the case. To say otherwise is to show your own ignorance.>You DS guys have my sympathy, really. You deserved to experience Pokemon as a kid, it was truly magical. They did, and they experienced the best era of the franchise. Platinum and HGSS. The former is probably the best mainline game, the latter completely replace GSC in every way. If gen 3 killed my interest in pokemon, gen 4 reignited it before gen 5 made me stop caring about the games to the point I didn't touch Gens 6-7 until 2018 and I haven't bought any of the games after.
>>59324206>and they experienced the best era of the franchiseKek no wonder you’re so assblasted about OP, you’re exactly the type of zoomer he’s referring to.
>>59324221I'm 33 years old. I lived through pokemania. Unlike (you), I had a nintendo certified Mew via distribution event on my copy of blue version.I just know that things were, generally speaking, worse in the late 90s than they are now. Gen 1 is not fun to play, and FRLG exist and mog it in every way. Gen 2 is not fun to play, and HGSS mogs it in every way. You're a pathetic failure of a human being stuck in the past because you can't accept your present and are too weak-willed to change your future.
>>59323972I feel bad for arrested-development manchildren who can't move on from Pokemania. I was there too and it was a corporate consoomer fad, of which there were many back when the monoculture was still a thing. If anything, it's the #1 reason to blame for why the games suck now because it made GF never have to actually try.
>>59323972I started playing during gen1 but i barely remember anything from those games if it wasn't for me replaying the games, i remember getting stuck in victory road but that's about it i don't remember what team i ran or anything like that.
>>59324266>If anything, it's the #1 reason to blame for why the games suck now because it made GF never have to actually try. You're saying that like their pre-Pokémon games where marvels.
>>59324434Pulseman was kino
>>59324462Almost as overhyped as Drill Dozer desu.
>People actually like modern pokemon and don't stick to older gens.Well, no accounting for taste, or lack thereof.
>>59323972It's not about Pokémania per se. If anything, Pokémania is responsible for all the fucking normies who go "omg KANTOOOO from my childhood!! Le heckin Charizardino!!! :D" because they only cared about Pokémon during Pokémania itself, because it was popular. And normies worship everything that's popular and don't care about anything else. So you have them to thank for all the retarded Kanto and Charizard wankery. Anyway, point is, the sad part is that younger fans didn't watch the series grow. They didn't get to experience how every new gen was revealed, how the new games significantly changed the series forever, and so on. It's kinda like seeing a child grow up. Sure, you can meet a person later in life and get along with them, but you'll never have a deep understanding of how they became that person.
>>59323972I grew up with the original games and Pokemani. Honestly I would rather replay Platinum and HG/SS than R/B/Y and G/S. Don't get me wrong, I like the originals too. The DS games added so much more to the series gameplay that I find it harder to return to the original GB gameplay if I want to play a Pokemon game. The nostalgia gets me when I do replay the GB games, yet I can't get engaged as well as I used to as a kid.
>>59323972I lived through Pokemania, GS was great but not much else was if I'm being honest. HGSS is just straight up better, I'm glad the DS kiddies got to experience the best Pokemania title but better.
>>59324434Actually, yeah, their pre-Pokemon games were pretty solid. The unearned phenomenon of Pokemania seems to have broken GF's brains. Certainly the quality of their non-Pokemon games dropped off a cliff right away with only Drill Dozer and Bushi Seiryuuden having anything going for them post-1996 (and even the latter was technically a 1996 game that got delayed a year due to publisher issues). And with Pokemon itself, only Masuda cracking the whip could get them to release anything vaguely competent; once they forced him out of the director's chair, the series degraded into outright shovelware slop. But because of Pokemania, that slop still sells a nauseating amount of units and has legions of apologists defending the indefensible.
