Today's Menu has been a wonderful change of pace for me, a fic I don't feel like I have to provide feedback for and which I am not editing. Emiya is funny and the very direct and blunt prose sort of play into that, I'd say it's very snappy despite the odd formatting where it seems like every other word is a new line, but they get longer in chapter 4 & 5 when we get other PoVs.Mawile is very cute, also for some reason I expected the fic to take place in Sinnoh. I like Oak here. Some rare sentences feel AI generated, but it's not common and typos and grammatical errors too common for the text as a whole to be AI. Either way I'd recommended paying closer attention when editing.The description of food always makes me hungry and having Red be excitable was an interesting choice. I tend to think of him as rather mute although not the same, it vaguely reminds me of GoC where the Red there is also quite talkative. That's probably the Poke'spe influence.There was a meme reference in chapter 4 I didn't find funny, and I liked the turn towards pokemon ecology in Chapter 5, not so much a fan to the references to how game-y Fate's universe is. I like Emiya's internal conflict as well and how it clashes against the world of pokemon. All in all I came away thinking it was okay-ish, but not something I'm interested in keeping up with. Why did YYH's tournament arc work so well then? It seems to adhere to every single negative trope being listed here. 6v6 (or 5v5 rather), the side characters and not just the MC get full focus on all their fights, every random observer has a side arc going on, etc.

Keep in mind that once a scene has served its purpose, end that shit. There are a ton of scenes I abruptly end or change by just having a character enter and change the dynamic. If the scene’s purpose is done, the reader won’t question the timing of a character entering right at the end of the relevant conversation. If your scene veers off from its purpose, characters truthfully following their objective will force it back. If the scene is truly relevant and necessary, you’ll find a way. If it has no greater purpose than getting your character from Point A to Point B, then just skip it. Condense it to a sentence and get to the stuff that matters. If the stuff that matters is stumping you, maybe you didn’t set it up right and re-work that. One choice sentence three pages earlier can fix things that three pages of writing later can’t.I find that typing out my thoughts will help when I’m stumped. I’ll even type out the dilemma to an AI, not to get ideas from whatever slop it sends back, but because usually while typing things out I’ll realize the issue and can attack it better.
