his dad's really good for an in game playthrough
even if you can't get your hands on a trade evo his older brother will do just fine
i think the geodude line is one of the best cases of "generic RPG monster, but YOU can use it in your party!" in the franchise

I always found him kind of mid in gen 1 and gen 4 since better options do exist and are pretty easily available.

Gen 2 though he completely breaks the game. He's also shocking good in gen 3 since there aren't THAT many great ground types outside of Flygon.
