>grew up with pkmn vidja since geewun>on and off all the way up to sv>start back up at the beginning with Blue with renewed interest in playing the "correct way">one game from each generation this way>end of the journey projected to be romhacks or other community recs, not sure what happens hereWhat is the "correct way" to play, anon? Absolutely terrible at vidja and want the experience to mostly be one of learning instead of massively overleveling one or two mons. Have been grinding entire party until barely overleveled for area, then proceeding. Haven't learned anything so far outside of remembering weaknesses here and there. How do YOU play, anon?
>>59353025I train the Pokémon that caught my interest and most of the time I go somewhat underleveled since I don´t stop to grind that much. There are games where I have the entire party consolided in the early game and there are others where I still have like 3 mons by mid game. Having a small team should be the sweet spot since you are not underleveled, this is relevant for games where the level curve spikes dramatically like in Diamond and Pearl.
>>59353025I just make a team of 6 with guys that I like.
>>59353025Honestly, just play. Don't get too caught up in HOW to play, just roll with it. The worst thing you can do is force any sort of playstyle and spreadsheet yourself into burnout before you even start.
>>59353193Was expecting similar answers. I'm mostly interested in learning. When gameplay threads are up, the technical how-to this and how-to that confuse me. I've "just played" my entire life and as a result, my brain is underdeveloped and I'm borderline retarded. The hope in this thread was to get advice on learning how to be the very best like no one ever was. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks anon.
>>59353498Oh, well I might be the wrong person to ask then. But also, Gen 1 might be the wrong gen to start in for that. The game is still pretty simple there, match weaknesses and resistances, buff and debuff, use statuses, that sort of thing, and hardly any of it applies to the regular game anyway. I guess you could look up competitive loadouts and specifically study the justifications for them, like why you would want your Starmie to carry Blizzard instead of STAB Psychic. In terms of more practical experience, you can run through Blue for a warmup, then skip to Battle Facilities in later games. Focus less on your own team and more on what the enemy trainers are doing to you. You could also try Stadium/etc with rentals to force you to explore moves.
>>59353025I nuzlocke because I'm a faggot who needs my children's game to be a challenge
>>59353025>>59353498Just try different ways. Do the overleveled starter strat, do the balanced team strat, do a Nuzlocke if you feel up to the challenge. Try the different flavours so you get a better understanding of your tools.
