Let me just say that the anime is garbage and gives the games a bad name.

>>59354971This was a common thought around gen 1-6 or 7-ish.Maybe because the sprites still left room for imagination, in the 3D era they started showing the characters having big smiles or staring blankly regardless of what's happening (especially in the early 3D ones) which took that immersion of a more "serious" iteration, or maybe because gen 4-6 were trying something more dramatic with the lore and plot that was distinct from the anime.
