Why are Kalos routes so BLOATED?There's no reason for Route 2 to have Caterpie, Weedle and Scatterbug if they also show up in the Santalune Forest right after Route 2Also no reason for Zigzagoon or Pidgey.
>>59356734Well, how many mons should a route have, then? 3? 4 at most? If so, you'd either need to be very precise and deliberate with modern pokedexes, or have 156 pokemon available before the postgame.
>>59356734The wait for Gen 10 news has us desperate for shit to whine about kek
>>59356743Being forced to encounter Pidgey for your first encounter isn't fun. Of the Pokemon on that route, there's two, maybe three interesting encounters. That's Gen 4 levels of "why is this encounter table so bad". At least Gen 3's first route encounters were concise and varied even if hardly any of the Pokemon were amazing.

>>59356743The first trip through Mt. Coronet has better encounters, the fuck are you on about.

>>59356775The point of random encounters is the chance of getting basically anything in the random pool of encounters. A forced encounter should ideally explain something about the game mechanically or tonally. ORAS as an example does it slightly better by the forced Pokemon having an unusual evolution method. Aside from "being an Kanto Pokemon" Pidgey doesn't show off much of anything, but given the immediate next area being a Kanto map and the general over-reliance on Kanto Pokemon for story beats (both your first potential Mega before even Lucario and the re-use of Snorlax without even Gen 2's slight variance on the theme) I suppose that's a fair use of the concept. It's also weird that they mask this forced encounter as a random encounter, and it almost feels like at this point Game Freak heard about Nuzlockes and wanted to specifically fuck them over for some reason, but that last bit is just paranoid delusion. Regardless, Pidgey is kinda dogshit and is just worse than every flying type that isn't Farfech'd in Gen 1 which leaves it in an even worse position in Gen 6 where not only was there a really good bird two generations ago, there's an arguably even better one on the same fucking route at better odds than Pidgey usually is. Personally I think of the Pokemon on that encounter table Zigzagoon would have been the better choice for Pick Up and the direct comparison to Colosseum, but Game Freak were probably planning for ORAS at that point so I don't exactly blame them. So, what's so fun about encountering Pidgey every single first visit to that route?
>>59356798>A forced encounter should ideally explain something about the game mechanically or tonallyWhy?>So, what's so fun about encountering Pidgey every single first visit to that route?I like how you say “every single” as if it’s going to happen more than once per playthrough. Stop being a disingenuous retard.
>>59356786What about Machop, Cleffa, Meditite, or Chingling? Or how about Bronzor in Platinum?>>59356802>Why?Every decision in a game is made for a reason. Designing a system takes time and effort, so there must be a reason for every system in the game and every deviation from that system (which also takes development time and resources). They went out of their way to put Pidgey as the first encounter of every copy of XY, surely there's a reason for it.>I like how you say “every single” as if it’s going to happen more than once per playthrough. Stop being a disingenuous retard. When we were talking about replayability in >>59356743 I assumed you were talking about playing through the game multiple times, as there's not much other replayability to XY when it comes to specifically encounter tables (there's no mass outbreaks in XY, once you catch every Pokemon you want it's pretty much done). Sorry for assuming you were referring to that and making a criticism of replaying the game.
>>593567373 or 4 sounds good. Two common, one uncommon, and on select routes an extremely rare encounter
>>59356810>all this text>still doesn’t explain the part that makes it not funleast disingenuous chronotriggerfag post
>>59356815So you get a grand total of 3 random encounters before the route becomes a tedious chore. Fucking awesome.
Low encounter variety is one of those things like HMs where it’s something that’s obviously objectively dogshit but retards use mental gymnastics to try and defend anyway simply because they’re seething that their DS games did something worse than the newer games
>>59356734Kalos had a regional dex of around 450 and hadn't figured out how to properly spread the distribution out
>>59356734its because they wanted to cram in all the KANTOOOOOOO mons. without the kanto mons they have a normal early route distribution of mon.
>meanwhile alola starts splitting routes into 2+ grass zones just to fit everything in Kinda based ngl
>>59356734Better than Alola's Gumshoos, Raticate and Pelipper spam.
>>593567341- It was still part of the "over-correction of the BW1" reception era. They started appealing to more nostalgia and wanted to include more classicmons in XY.2- Because it was the first game with 3D pokemon, they wanted to showcase all the new models.
>>59356734>why do the routes have too much content and replayability?>why did they make random encounters actually fun instead of encouraging the player to use repels 99% of the game?I wonder at what point XY detractors realize how fucking retarded and clownish their “critiques” are
>>59356978kalos also did that, the different color flowers have different pools.
>>59356734>11% Caterpie/WeedleWhy not just split them up 10% and 1% depending on version?
