I never got to play it as a kid, so i played it recently as an adult and it's just.... kind of a slightly worse version of gold and silver?
some pokemon feel missing from routes, and the suicune storyline is honestly kind of lame and the final encounter removes an entire dungeon (tin tower) from the game. I was expecting the suicune plot to be like it was in hgss, where it keeps on being a subplot all the way into kanto. But it just kind of ends in johto in a less satisfying way than the original.
You get the pokemon animations when you send them out, ice cave gets ice instead of just cave, and you can play as a girl now. But aside from the visual upgrade I think it's just kind of worse than g/s.

I love it but I’m reminded of the Indian kid who stole mine in grade 3
