Dragonite is a fat, orange, bipedal, goofy, and overall 'childish' looking Pokemon. Their appeals are entirely different, people who like the former two like elegant/feminine or snake-like things, people who like the later one like silly, goofy, tubby, 'friend-shaped' dragons. It is entirely possible to like both, but obviously not everyone is going to always like both types of design, leading to the infamous hate/fanbase for Dragonite.

I don't dislike Ampharos but I do prefer Flaaffy. I wouldn't mind a regional form that ends with Flaaffy or a split evo that preserves the wool for Flaaffy. ImJust anything, really. Ampharos has the mega too so it's not like it's getting the short end of the stick.
