Gen 6 has the best ashnime animation and production values, which has to count for something.
Gen 7 anime would be fine if it wasn't ash, because it's still a good pokemon anime, albeit a different kind of anime, it's just weird as fuck to see ash get (even more) brain damage.

Gen 6 is the best because it looks great but the ending soiled it.

Gen 5 to 8 all tried to re-imagine Ash. He was a different character every series starting Unova, it is where the weirdness comes from to people who grew up with og Ash.
