I think I *have* to train Wooper, just to have an answer for Jasmine. maybe I can brute-force Chuck?
just solo'd Morty's gym with Quagsire>Lv. 26 Aipom\Boots>Lv. 24 Quagsire\Woop-Woop>Lv. 17 Zubat\Mr. Battythe Red Gyarados next for the Exp. Share

Pryce is next.>Lv. 31 Golbat\Mr. Batty>Lv. 30 Quagsire\Woop-Woop>Lv. 15 Tauros\ThrasherAipom was killed because I switched into a Karate Chop (critical hit). Machop was spamming Seismic Toss and Quagsire had less than 25 HP so I couldn't switch it in. I know I said I would ban the hall of famers if I beat the nuzlocke but now I'm not so sure. I might actually be able to defeat Red...
>>59371953A bit late to throw my hat in, but i think Zubat is well worth training in gen 2. Crobat is going first basically every time and it has good bulk, especially in a game where there are more moves like Bite and Wing Attack than more modern moves.>Not banning HoFersWhat is this, some sort of... cheatlocke? But seriously, if you do make an entirely new team it'll take awhile to train them up to face Red, that's something to consider.
Bump.
I'm doing a custom nuzlocke run called the cheatlocke with these rules >>59367715 because I'm a big, fat, stinky, CHEATER. oh, and I can relearn Pokémon moves that are in their level up movepool whenever I want because I will not be taunted by Gamefreak setting moves at Lv. 1 with no legitimate way of accessing them. just killed Pryce!>Lv. 32 Golbat\Mr. Batty>Lv. 32 Quagsire\Woop-Woop>Lv. 27 Tauros\ThrasherClaire is next!>>59372778>What is this, some sort of... cheatlocke?very funny. the main issue with gen 2 zubat is getting off the ground. you're stuck with leech life for so long that Swift (TM) becomes your best option until level 30 (when Golbat learns Wing Attack). Bite is a special attack with no STAB plus you don't want to fight psychic-types and ghost-types are rare. if I decide to fight Red, then I won't ban my Hall of Famers. I usually don't fight Red and just end the run at Blue. banning the HoFers makes Kanto significantly more fun since you actually have to catch a new team and train them up before taking on Gym Leaders. I could also just put the HoFers on haitus until Red instead of perma-banning them; I think that's more than fair, given how under-leveled they will be.

The run is dead. I wiped at Will. I completely forgot about his Exeggcutor. I'd rather post Karen though. sue me.>Lv. 40 Quagsire\Woop-Woopamazing typing, gets the Mud Slap and Dig TMs very early for access to STAB, evolves very early at level 20, gets a good STAB option in Surf, learns Earthquake via level up (unlike Sandslash), has Ice Punch for coverage (even as a Wooper!), a good Pokémon all around despite its lack of speed. unfortunately, there is the occasional grass-type but those aren't too common in Johto's boss fights — B tier>Lv. 39 Crobat\Mr. Battyabsolutely not worth it. you have to grind a shitter to level 30 just to get a half-way decent STAB move, and it's fucking Wing Attack (60 BP). so, you're either trying to kill other shitters with Swift because Leech Life is pathetic and Bite on Zubat is painfully mediocre or you're giving it the EXP Share in the mid-game when there's dozens of other Pokémon more worthy of that EXP. Crobat isn't awful, but the payoff isn't worth all the investment — F tier>Honorable Mentionthe only other death prior to the wipe; I did not expect Aipom to contribute as much as it did. the fact that I effortlessly raised it to Lv. 27 in Johto speaks volumes. more than a jokemon, Aipom has legitimate worth in the early game while you're still building your team and looking for permanent party members.I deposited Tauros because I was going to use it in Kanto. maybe I was too overconfident. so, is this place dead now that Conner is taking a break?
>>59374670How is the run dead? Just reload your save and try again.
>>59374682what save?
>>59374690You were dumb enough not to save? Next time make a save so that crap doesn't happen.
>>59374670It's certainly gonna be slower without him playing. You probably already did this, but when you run it back, consider taking advantage of STAB Headbutt. Very good combo thanks to abundance of Normal types and badge boosts.
>>59375579there is no runback; the file was deleted as a result of a wipe. the other anon was upsetti spaghetti because I use items in my runs and was being passive-aggressive with his hostility. when he was talking about reloading the save, he was insinuating that my run was a casual playthrough.despite all the custom rules that were akin to cheating: I wasn't playing with the "a loss doesn't result in a wipe; you can use deposited Pokémon if your party dies" rule.
>>59375849Oh, alright then. So is it on to Y now or are you taking a break?
>>59376351I'll be playing a non-Pokémon game for a bit so break for sure. I don't know how long it'll be though.
Decided to go with Grass types in Emerald next. So far the early game feel smoother than with Ground. No single member of the team is as good as Marshtomp or Geodude but at the same time no single battle has been as dire as when an enemy had a Grass type. The lower powerlevel certainly makes fights take longer but Absorb and Leech Seed means victory is always an inevitability.
>>59377308It'll probably remain as consistently neutral matchups until you get to Flannery, and her toughness needs no introduction. Winona will probably give you a tough time as well, but that's probably the worst of it type matchup wise.
>>59368546I have to admit i think this is the first time i've seen that healing before a battle wasn't a good thing. Have you already tried running it back?
Tried my first Nuzlocke since either White 2 or HeartGold years ago, neither of which had me make it far. Roark wipe to Lileep. Of course that sounds more gracious than it was, I only had 3 usable mons to start the battle with. The Metronome Light that Burns the Sky on my Venonat was a bit rough, but felt recoverable, but then I started slipping after Barry 2 and my inability to catch Machop in Oreburgh Gate + getting Roared by a Vulpix encounter kinda took the wind out of my sails.
>>59379694Oh I forgot to mention it was Platinum Kaizo, if it wasn’t obvious.
>>59378555>I have to admit i think this is the first time i've seen that healing before a battle wasn't a good thingYeah, the plan involved burning a Milotic before the battle starts, and using it to kill Aaron's lead Dustox. I wanted Milotic to be burned because I wanted Aaron to send in Drapion in a situation where it can't click Swords Dance. Burn helps with that because Dustox knows Toxic, but it can't click Toxic if I'm already statused, and being burned, combined with Milotics Recover, allows me to control Milo's HP better. I wanted to be around 80-ish percent HP because I wager that's around the threshold I needed to get Drapion to switch in instead of Venomoth. Unfortunately, Aaron heals me and that plan goes out the window. So I ended up switching to Flareon, playing straight up, and losing.>Have you already tried running it back?Funny you ask this, because I did start a run afterwards that I didn't post here about, wasn't planning to until I at least beat Fantina. Ended up wiping to Aaron again. I had a good plan, but I messed up the execution. Mawile barely missed the kill on Venomoth, and Venomoth put it to sleep with sleep powder. And that was GG because I needed Mawile to kill Venomoth so it could 1v1 Drapion. Unfortunately, Mawile barely missed the Iron Head kill. Should've figured considering Mawile was -Atk natureWhat makes that wipe actually terrible, is that after I wiped, I realized Aaron's lead Dustox can't do any damage to Mawile, and Mawile will always bait Drapion, no matter who Mawile kills. So I win the entire fight if I just led with Mawile instead of killing Dustox with Quilava
>>59379694That's a pretty hefty difficulty jump for so long between runs. Are you gonna try it again?
>>59380286Well at least you know now, and knowledge like that is a major factor of Nuzlockes. It should help to smooth out that part of the game at the minimum.
Alright, pretty weird situation but I swear to god this just happened and I want to hear other people's opinion on this>playing Infinite Fusion Nuzlocke>pretty far in, at Blaine fight>IF has a thing for gym battles where you "enter" as many Pokemon as the leader has like in Battle Tower or something for the main games>Can enter 4, pick my first one >My fucking cat jumps on my lap and steps on the start battle button>Enter a 4v1 and black outI'm actually kind of pissed lmao, would you retry with the living mons or restart since I know black out is usually a reset. I dont want to break rules because I feel like it defeats the point of these runs but at the same time, what are the fucking odds of this. Either way my Magnezone/Tentacruel fusion is considered dead no matter what which blowsPic related it is Blaine's biggest fan
>>59381445I wouldn't personally count that as a failed run, I would even go so far as to not count the death, but that's up to you if the game doesn't have built-in Nuzlocke mode. It's not like it was your fault.
what do u guys think of emerald for a first time nuzlocke,? well havent done one since 2015, was thinking of picking treecko
>>59383209Not the worst game for a first run, but there are difficult battles that make it one of the harder games. If you know the game well that's different though.
cheatlocke part 2: electric boogaloorules are here >>59367715 but also, I can relearn moves in a Pokémon's level up movepool because gamefreak forgot to include a move reminder. in-battle items are allowed.>Lv. 11 Spearow>Lv. 8 Kakuna>Lv. 7 TotodileI just killed Falkner. I'll be doing this run as an alternative when I want to take a break from the other game.
>>59383949Seems like a decent runback so far, maybe you'll get Bugsy dealt with without much trouble too.
>>59377723The Gym puzzle was harder than Flannery. Admittedly, I probably got absurdly lucky but between Flash on Nuzleaf, Sleep Powder on Gloom and Leech Seed on Breloom, she got completely obliterated. The whole battle was me switching between the 3 then letting Grovile or Breloom have the killing blow. I always forget Lombre gets no Water moves but thankfully he is at least moist enough to take an Overheat.
TLDR wiped to an early-game Hiker because I only had bad type matchups welp, the run is dead. I only had Beedrill and Spearow as fighters when I decided to take on the Hiker outside of Union Cave. uknown to me at the time, that Hiker is not like the other hikers: his Geodude knows Rock Throw (Lv. 11). I don't use starters so Totodile didn't have a water move and I had only recently caught the Rattata that was on my team (I think it was level 5). lesson learned.>>59384657I have some bad news...
Attempt 9 (because attempt 8 which I also didn't post about also lost to Aaron.) of Renplat starts the same as all the others, by picking Chimchar. No long writeup, just the list of encounters.>Psyduck from Lake Verity>Eevee from Twinleaf, which is evolved into Glaceon>Random 2nd Sinnoh starter is Turtwig>Horsea from route 219, south of Sandgem via Old Rod>Random Kanto starter from Jubilife is Charmander>Trainer School Egg is Igglybuff>Route 204 is Starly>Ravaged Path is Zubat>Route 218 is Magikarp>Route 203 is Lotad>Diglett from Oreburgh Gate>Oreburgh Mines is Geodude>Route 207 is PhanphyWith all early game encounters encountered, it's time for Roark, which goes the same as all Roarks, deathless, as Glaceon takes out 5 by it's lonesome. After kicking galactic butt from Jubilife to Floraroma (and the Valley Windworks) it was time to head through Eterna Forest, into the City, and then into the mountains to grab Gardenia. Along the way:>Random Johto Starter is Totodile>Seedot from Meadow>Voltorb from Valley Windworks>Mareep from Route 205>Murkrow from Eterna Forest>100% Feebas from Mt. Coronet>Snover from Route 216>Swablu from Route 211With all that out of the way, it's time for Gardenia. The team I bring is>Glaceon>Gyarados>Murkrow>Crobat>Monferno>DonphanGlaceon continues it's excellent performance in gyms by chaining Gardenia's first 3 mons, Bellossom, Breloom, and Tangela. In comes Cherrim, and I swap to Monferno. Fake Out, Flamethrower, and a Mach Punch puts it down. Next, it's Gardenia's ace Roserade. I pivot through Murkrow on the Extrasensory, let Donphan eat a Sludge Bomb, before going back into Gyarados and killing with Bounce. Finally, it's Gardenia's last Pokemon, Grotle. That Crobat 1v1's easily. That's badge #2, and the level cap goes to 33, which unlocks Feraligatr, Kingdra, Electrode, Ampharos, Torterra, and Luxray. Now it's onto the Eterna TG building, Mira, and my arch-nemesis, Aaron.
>>59384817Oh. That's unfortunate timing. At least you know for next time i guess.
>>59380527I've tried it a few more times and jobbed harder than my first run each time. Just something catches me offguard and I flounder. Those psychic types in Oreburgh Gate are kinda tough if you get terribly unlucky with Confusions.
>>59386220yeah. Beedrill and Spearow are both usable but that one Hiker in particular is dangerous at that point in the game if you don’t have an answer.
page 10 emergency bump!
I don't want to live anymore you guys. I think I'm killing myself for real this time.
>>59388308Look up what happens to people who’ve tried that and survived.
>>59385657After kicking TG out from Eterna City, I take the Porygon that's left behind in the Eterna building, hatch the gift Togepi in the bike shop, and collect the fossils before heading down cycling road. I get a Slugma from route 206, and a little bit of an adaptation occurs here. Normally I get Cranidos as my fossil mon, but it hasn't done much of anything in the runs I've had it. So this time, I go Aerodactyl. I willingly skip Wayward cave for now. After helping Mira, and fighting rival at the 207 entrance to Coronet, it's time to fight Aaron, my most consistent run ender. What makes Aaron difficult here is his Drapion. Sniper to power up crits, holding a scope lens to increase it's crit rate, and it also carries high crit moves like Night Slash. Like always, my strategy is to create a situation where Drapion can't use Swords Dance. And I do that, thanks to Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl kills Dustox, and brings in Scizor. I swap to Charmeleon, take the Bullet Punch, and kill with Fire Fang. Now here comes my bane, Drapion. Two things about this. The first, I made note of how Gen 4 AI decides which Pokemon it sends in after one of it's own Pokemon is knocked out. Turns out, it's two phases to this decision making. The first, being a type advantage. Either move, or Pokemon itself. >Example, you have a Lanturn that knocked out an opponents Pokemon, and the AI has a Ninetales that knows Energy Ball, and none of it's other Pokemon knows a super effective move against Lanturn, the AI will always send out Ninetales despite the Pokemon type disadvantageHowever, I already knew this. It's the second phase that kind of hit the eureka button for me>If no type/move advantage is found, the AI will calculate the damage of all the moves from remaining Pokemon, and select the one with the highest damage, however, this calculation is done using the base stats of the Pokemon that was just KO'd
So what that means, is that when Scizor is killed, Drapion's moves are calculated with Scizor's base 130 attack. And Beautifly+Venomoth's special moves are calculated with base 55 special attack. The second thing about this, is that I intentionally left Charmeleon a lower level than the rest of the team, so that it would take more damage from Scizor, and make sure Drapion would always go for the kill, and not Swords Dance. It worked, really well. Now, the only Pokemon I have that outspeeds Drapion is Aerodactyl, or Dugtrio, but they both lose straight up 1v1's, especially if Drapion gets a hit off with no retaliation. So I decided to play for the draw. I swap into Graveler holding a Silk Scarf on the Cross-Poison.... and I click Self-Destruct. It wasn't an easy choice to do it, but it was either do that, or lose. And this is honestly the first entertaining fight in the game, I really don't want to do that early game again. With Drapion down, Beautifly falls to Monferno's Fake Out+Flamethrower, and Honchkrow kills Venomoth. The next required fight after Aaron in Fantina, so lets get into that. The team I bring>Aerodactyl>Torterra>Luxray>Magcargo>Feraligatr>WigglytuffAerodactyl OHKO's Drifblim with Rock Slide. Fantina sends out Misamagius that goes for , and I go into Torterra, and it gets a little dicey, but manage to win the 1v1. Out comes Dusclops. I don't immediately switch, hoping that it uses Will-O-Wisp, but it doesn't, and knocks Torterra to 7 HP. Which is actually perfect. I swap into Feraligatr, that's begins the fight on low HP, eats the Shadow Punch to trigger it's salac berry, and kill Dusclops with Crunch. In comes Gengar, who is why I went with salac berry strat, so now Gatr outspeeds and chains with another Crunch. Banette and Spiritomb fall to Luxray and Wigglytuff respectively, and that's badge number 3. Level cap goes top 39, so more evo's are unlocked, and only one death so far. Which is the fewest I've had at this point. So I feel good.
ok????
Anyone got a link to that one gen iv Nuzlocke comic which was actually good and not bad? Her starter was Chimchar. The one where professor Rowan was a child molester. Thanks.
>>59388988nice. I think I found a shiny pidgey before I had access to pokeballs once lol
Bellossom swept most of Norman's team with Sleep Powder and Absorb. Killing all those Solrocks was certainly worth it. What was a waste of time is leveling up Lileep. It is my first time using one so I assumed a rock wall would be useful in upcoming Gyms. I kept leveling it up, waiting for it to learn Absorb or Leech Seed, anything better than Acid but it never happened. Then I looked in the bag but it also can't learn any of the TMs I have, not even Rock Tomb. Finally, I decided to look it up. Lileep's moveset has to be the worst moveset outside of Gen 1. It at least killed Spinda so I guess it was not all for nothing. >>59388988Nice. Shiny Pidgeotto is pretty cool.
>>59389443usually, I'd say that Lileep is one of those Pokémon that goes from trash to somewhat usable with universal EXP (modern-day EXP Share) but...>only rock-type attack is Ancient Power>it gets Rock Slide through breeding>gets no grass-type attacks by level up>last moves it gets are stockpile/spit up/swallow...in this case, it feels like early-gamefreak really hated fossil Pokémon for some reason
>>59389934Lileep has it much worse imo. The Gen1 fossils have guaranteed access to stab with the best HMs in the game and some of the most broken moves in Gen1 like Blizzard, Hyper Beam and Slash. Anorith is by no means a powerhouse but it does have a weirdly diverse movepool and it even gets Protect for Norman. Lileep gets less grass moves than Kabuto.
>>59390007I was under the impression that basically all Pokémon get Protect...
>>59386843Yeah, Plat Kaizo is one of those hacks that's probably intended for you to plan essentially everything out, even down to encounters and move damage, to make things "easier.">>59389039>The one where professor Rowan was a child molesterThat's a completely wild thing to just drop out of nowhere. Can't say i've ever heard of that one though.
>>59390563I get the joke but it doesn't really work when the post specifies the point of the game you'd want it for.
>>59391513it wasn't a joke, I just didn't get why Anorith getting Protect was special when Lileep gets it too...
>>59391816Really?
>>59391820no, I know why Protect is good for Norman...
The Winona fight went pretty much the same way, Sleep Powder is OP. Her Tropius setting up the sun was a huge help. Now that I think about it, half my team has Chlorophyll. I should probably teach Sunny Day to someone.
>>59388552>>59388553Nice work getting past Aaron and Fantina! Do you have an idea as to what your next major battle that might become a hurdle for you?
>>59392654That would certainly help the team out, and especially would be useful against Juan and Wallace.
page 9 bump!...I beat my other game but I'm not really feeling a nuzlocke...
>>59393703Not at the moment. I think with the mons I have, I should be able to get back to Candice at a minimum. Maylene should be pretty free, My Snover actually has Snow Warning this time so Wake gets a lot easier than he normally is, and losing to Byron should be impossible
page 9 bump?
About to start my genlockeNever actually played FireRed before, should I do it blind?
>>59396712A blind run should be fine, the gen 3 remakes are some of the best games for first Nuzlockes.
>>59396712>>59396929it begins
>>59397166Good luck!
>>59397166the game corner isn't rigged in gen 3 like it is in gens 1 and 2 so you can abuse it and grab the best TMs in the game. good luck!!
>>59396087RenPlat gave no improvements at all to Byron i see. Good to hear you've got a somewhat smooth road ahead.
>>59395220You could do a regular playthrough of a game or romhack, or play another game entirely.
>>59398839I think it's because Kalos' main game is very iffy. not only is its identity weak but the pacing in the early game is absurdly slow and then the late game is lightning fast iirc. I don't hate the region but I'm also not really feeling it at the moment. I'll be doing a run of the Fire Emblem Revelation as an extended break.
>>59399314Kalos' pacing from after Korrina up to Team Flare starting their endgame feels to me like something got cut from the game. It's mainly getting gym badges with small interludes with the friend group to change the pacing a bit. It ad least had a large variety of mons on each route to mix up repeat playthroughs and no long-ass cutscenes on every route.
>>59397166Got tired of curbstomping level three ratatas and nearly lost my Mankey to Brock, then this faggot's Ekans nearly KO'd my starter. Starting to think no items is more challenge than I'm ready forThis magikarp salesman is a total scam, right? Unless the Mt Moon encounters are complete dogshit I'm guessing it's a waste to pick up Magikarp now. I'm playing with level caps (the only thing I looked up), and I'm guessing I can get a fishing rod not long after Misty.
>>59401630No items definitely kicks things up a notch, you could modify the rule a bit by using an equal number of items as the gym leader or E4 member, or allow yourself to heal everyone but your lead in battle, or keep it the same if you like.Yeah, the old rod is available once in Vermillion after you finish it with Cerulean City. Fishing any body of water with it will get you Magikarp for free, save your money, and preferably get some antidotes instead.
>>59401630₽500 is not a lot of money. the benefit is that you get Magikarp much earlier than you would have if you waited until Vermillion. yes, the in-game joke is that he is a scammer but realistically it's a fair trade-off.
>>59391445It's not serious and is just played off as a joke but might be the reason I can't find it anywhere. It had really good art too.
>>59401774>>59401785>equal number of items as the gym leaderOnce the gym leaders start using items I'll consider it, those full restores can be backbreakingI double checked the level caps, and Misty's is actually high enough to evolve Magikarp. I went ahead and bought it, counting it as my Route 4 encounter.A bit nervous for Misty, none of my lineup has type advantage against Water and I'm pretty sure I'm out of encounters before Cerulean City. Maybe I can slug it out with Gyarados.
>>59403668it will be very difficult to have a gyarados before misty...
>>59404049It would take a lot of switch training, but he might not have a choice. Starmie with Water Pulse is pretty mean this early in the game.
Hey guys, I'm back.I've decided I'm gonna do a pokemon nuzlocke again. It's been a while but I'm gonna start with Fire Red. Please give me some suggestions for future nuzlockes I'm gonna do, like some rule ideas. For this FireRed one though, I'm just gonna do usual typical rules. First encounter catch, I have to be able to catch them though and if I lose a pokemon, they are dead.
>>59406220don't use your starter (past level 9). you can use your starter in the early game, but you cannot raise them to level 10.
Fuck Fire Red. I lost on day 1.My starter was Bulbasaur and throughout the game, I caught a Ratatta, a Pidgey, a Weedle, a Spearow, a Zubat and then a second Ratatta. Bulbasaur did evolve into Ivysaur and Weedle managed to make it to Beedrill.I had no issue with Brock or the first two Gary fights. But I did lose Beedrill before making it to Mt Moon and unfortunately I lost Ivysaur to Mistys Starmie using Swift where unfortunately it got a crit and then Zubat and Pidgey also died to Misty.I tried to grind the rest of my team up to take on Gary but I lost Spearow and the two Ratattas. This sucks honestly. Should I begin Fire Red again instead of moving on? I want to beat it.
>>59406647I'd say give it another try with one of the other 2 starters
>>59406647consider playing with species clause
>>59406719That's what I usually do. I've decided to make it difficulter. It's why I didn't catch a route 1 pokemon because no pokeballs when usually I would just wait until I had pokeballs until the nuzlocke began.>>59406695Yeah but it depends on the last number of my ID though. I hope I don't get Bulbasaur again.
>>59406647The king is bvck
>>59407002I mean I lost my first attempt on day 1.
I somehow managed to get my 20plus-year-old GBA SP to work. time for a casual leafgreen nuzlocke (rules: permadeath, first encounter = catch, species clause).>Lv. 10 Mankey>Lv. 8 Metapod>Lv. 6 Charmander>Lv. 3 Pidgey>Lv. 2 RattataI just killed Brock. I'm not gonna stress on playing efficiently. I AM gonna try to give would-be shitters more of a chance though. well, maybe not Rattata.
Sleep Powder+Sunny Day+Solar Beam is surprisingly fun. The only drawback is that the sun doesn't last long and there is no Heat Rock in this game. The last two Gyms did not stand a chance.
Day 2, started FireRed again, here is my progress. My pokemon consists off:>Charmeleon>Pidgeotto>Zubat>Ekans>Magikarp>Beedrill>Meowth>Diglett>DrowzeeI have however lost some pokemon, two Pidgeys, a Kakuna and a Caterpie.I did have to sacrifice a Pidgey just to beat Brock in which it made itself useful and Sand Attacked his Onix, the same strat was used later on Gary's Squirtle since I had no Grass or Electric types.I'm worried to take on Misty so I'm skipping her until I have no choice but to take her on. I've basically done everything you can do before Misty with the exception of the SS Anne.Should I be aware of some of the battles on that ship?
>>59408398...aaand the run's dead. or rather, I'm calling it quits here since I probably can't beat Misty with just Butterfree. Mankey (Lv. 15) got killed by a random trainer's Rattata (critical hit) and then Jigglypuff (Lv. 14) was killed by a Nidoran's Double Kick. Sandshrew wasn't going to help against Misty and had a shitty nature anyway. I would be surprised I managed to beat Rival 3 with just Butterfree but I guess Compound Eyes + Sleep Powder is just that good. maybe I should try Sapphire...
>>59408650Man, you've had some unfortunate last couple of runs. Hopefully Sapphire works out better for you.
>>59409127it's really just the early game that's the most dangerous part of a nuzlocke; it's the part of the game where you have the least number of options. although I will admit, my insistence on not using a starter makes even trivial fights like Brock much more challenging.
I'll be giving Sapphire a shot. same generic rules as always: permadeath, first encounter = catch, and species clause. I just miraculously managed to defeat Roxanne despite not my Pokémon not listening to me.>Lv. 13 "Makit">Lv. 10 Beautifly>Lv. 10 Wingull>Lv. 9 Torchic>Lv. 7 Poochyena>Lv. 2 ZigzagoonI traded my Slakoth for Makuhita in Rustburo City, completely forgetting that traded Pokémon stop listening to you without a badge around Lv. 10, which is the same level it learns its first fighting-type move. what a scam.
Alright guys, I know I just began but I need a break because I'm attending another con. I'm in Scotland. I might do some of my nuzlocke though.
Emerald with Grass types was very fun. The beginning was a bit slow but the second half of the game is pretty much a power trip. Bellosom is easily the best pokemon in the game. I initially had no intention of using one and only added Oddish on a whim but I very quickly realized how broken Sleep Powder was. She single-handily turned every potentially bad match up into a sweep and Sunny Day+Solar Beam trivialized the entire late game. Part of me kinda regrets not evolving her into a Vileplume, since Sludge Bomb ended up being really helpful against the E4's Grass types and Drake so stab would've been nice but having the extra stats early certainly helped in the mid game. Also, even if he didn't make it to the final team, Shiftry did end up pulling up his weight. Sceptile and Breloom are also surprisingly solid, specially in the early game. They both hit hard when they need to, not to mention Absorb and Leech Seed are better moves than people give credit for. Sceptile also gets a surprisingly useful moveset. Leaf Blade, Dig, Aerial Ace, Dragon Claw, Earthquake. It felt like he always had what was needed for the occasion. Ludicolo, Tropius and Shiftry are all excellent HM slaves who are also capable to contribute in battle. Their typing also gives them some interesting defensive utility. Cacturne is straight up just Shiftry but stronger. The one let down of the run was Lileep. I really wanted to try out Cradily but holy shit that thing was dead weight. Next is Water types but I am not sure if I should go for Sapphire or Alpha Sapphire. Does ORAS force you to use the Latios? I don't remember.
>>59409269aaand I wiped at Brawly. I did the classic mistake of training too many Pokémon and being under-leveled. it seems that playing with the EXP Share in the newer games has spoiled me.
>>59410481>Sceptile also gets a surprisingly useful movesetMost starters do. Shouldn’t be too surprising
>>59410554Not in the earlier generations and specially not the grass ones.
>>59410041hope it goes well dude
I just realized more people have probably read Muh Phoenix than the original Nuzlocke webcomic at this point
>>59410676>Muh PhoenixLiterally never heard of this. My personal thought in the same vein though: More people have probably watched Jaiden's Ruby Nuzlocke video than have read the original comic.
>>59410693>Literally never heard of thisIt's Nick's edit parody of Avengers vs X-MenIt's basically what if everyone in the comic sounded like 4chan Anons He called it the most offensive thing he's ever written and included a warning disclaimer unlike Hard Mode despite that CONSTANTLY getting called out for not worth reading due to being "problematic"Muh Phoenix regularly gets reposted on comic twitter for the sheer shock value of it They think it's hilarious
>>59410712Ah, I never really looked into his wider works, so I guess that explains that. Honestly, going back and re-reading the old stuff though, I like how much of a time-capsule it was of the era. You could feel where and when it came from. It's a vibe that I miss.
early-morning bump!
>>59410481Congrats on winning! No, you can ignore the Latios or Latias the game gives you.
>>59410481Pretty awesome team. Probably really good for going up against Juan and then Wallace.Did you have trouble in thus entire nuzlocke?
>>59411858Not a nuzlocke, just a monotype run with all the challenge rules minus the permadeath. But no, there wasn't much trouble. If anything it was way easier than Ruby with Ground types despite having "worse" pokemon and Emerald being a harder game. This very well could've been a nuzlocke, no one in the team really lost any fights.
>>59410527It's a nifty conveyance, when you have to option to not use it that is, but it's one i personally use it sparingly.
Are Oak challenges a thing for these threads? I finally hit credits on White 2 after just over 200 hours. Fuck grottos.
>>59413650There was one anon that did an Oak's challenge run awhile ago i think, but for thr most part it's Nuzlockes.
>>59411970I see. That's good.>>59410603It isnt.
>>59410481I remember once Nuzlocking Ruby and having an attack of maniacal laugh because my underleveled Bellossom just Solar Beamed Groudon into oblivion. I did not even needed to set up sun because that fat magma shrimp thing did it for me.
>>59414161I had a sort of similar feeling of amazement during a Crystal run of mine when my Electabuzz one shot Lance's entire team on its own.
I'm back from the con you guys so I will be continuing doing a pokemon fire red nuzlocke but I'm feeling sad right now.I felt so alone at the con and I nearly killed myself.
>>59413650Why not. These threads need bumping and we've got a lot of knowledge around here. And I don't think there's a better thread to post anyway, unless you make your own.
I got the hankering for a new run after a few years away. Let's do this.
>>59416413Fucking hell conny I thought you were gonna get laid at the least
>>59416413jesus dude why do you keep going to these things if they always seem to make you suicidal?
>>59416855Conner? is that you?
>>59416916Because it's the only way I can find nerdy people similar to me at big events where there is lots of people I guess. I think I may be unattractive.>>59416954This isn't me. Gonna continue with my FireRed nuzlocke tomorrow. 24 hours ago, I was still in my hotel.
>>59416965>This isn't me.hmmm ok then
>>59416965dude it's an anime con, 90% of the people there are going to be unattractive. nobody cares how attractive you are if you're just trying to be friends. maybe you'd fare better at a smaller scale event, like a local gaming night or something where it's a bit easier to meet people and have repeat contacts.
>>59416976damn animefags btfo'd lmao
>>59416976Actually alot of girls where attractive and so where some of the guys.
>>59417767whatever I guarantee nobody at an anime con expects you to be attractive or cares if you are. it's in your head. I mean maybe if you're trying to get laid but it doesn't matter for making friends.anyway I'm starting up a Platinum nuzlocke cause I think gen 4 is the only pre-Switch generation I haven't nuzlocked before. should be fun. probably not really gonna post updates but just trying to make my post on topic.
>>59418486Platinum is the best game in my opinion.
I've lost two good pokemon but I made some progress. My current pokemon are this.>Charmeleon>Pidgeotto>Zubat>Beedrill>Meowth>Gyarados>Ekans>Machop>OddishI had some trouble battling Gary on the SS Anne and Misty was quite hard too but no casualties. Then unfortunately I lost Diglett to Lts Surges Raichu in the battle against him but I still won but then I would go on to lose Drowzee later which pisses me off.Still Magikarp has evolved into Gyarados and I also caught a Machop and a Oddish so mabye it's not all bad.I also failed to catch some pokemon but it's fine. Any advice for Erika?
>>59416855I think i recognize some of those teams. Welcome back and good luck!
>>59418569It should be as simple as throwing Charmeleon and/or Pidgeotto at her. Just be wary of poison of course.
Made a bit of progress over the past couple days. Mocha the Sentret and Fluster the Pidgey were all I needed to take out Falkner. I am currently in Azalea Town having just booted Team Rocket out of the well. The biggest disappointment so far is failing to catch an Onix in Union Cave.>>59418569It's good to be back.>>59418569Yeah, Charmeleon and Pidgeotto should do well enough against Erika.
Anyone tried to do a nuzlocke on pokemmo? They have harder trainers with better teams, better AI and gym leaders have perfect IVs/EVs so I wonder if the experience would just be more frustrating than fun
Today has gone great. Only lost one pokemon today. My main team now consists of these:>Pidgeot>Charizard>Gyarados>Gloom>Jolteon>NidorinaMy backups are these:>Zubat>Beedrill>Meowth>Doduo>Venonat>FearowI did unfortunately lose Machop to the big fat Snorlax but that's really it, I beat the gym leader Erika with no issue and now I have a Pidgeot and a Charizard. Any advice for Koga and Sabrina?
>>59420812>>59420843Thanks. Though I did good against Erika. It's Koga and Sabrina I'm worried about.I'm thinking of just spamming through Koga with Charizard and mabye using Gyarados Bite to defeat Sabrina.
>>59420991>Any advicetrain your Pokemon ffs. why are you going up against Snorlax, a level 30 Pokemon, with a Machop? your team is so unbalanced in level. you seem to lose a lot of nuzlockes because you just don't bother levelling half your team. I mean maybe you can brute force things with Charizard and Gyarados (if you get him some levels) but you'll be a lot safer if your whole team is up to par.
>>59421522I have been. Still got some trainers to battle. I thought Machop could take down Snorlax with Low Kick and Snorlax being known to be heavy.
Made alot of progress today and no casualties. My current team is this.>Charizard>Pidgeot>Gyarados>Magneton>Nidorina>Hitmonlee9 backup pokemon.>Zubat>Beedrill>Jolteon>Doduo>Venonat>Fearow>Gloom>Lapras>MeowthI managed to beat Sabrina and Koga, Sabrina was hard but I levelled up Gyarados, as for Koga, he was easy. I did everything at Silph Co, beat Zapdos and now I need to head to Cinnabar Island. Any advice for Blaine?
No casualties again today. My current team is Gyarados, Charizard, Magneton, Hitmonlee, Nidorina and Pidgeot. My backup pokemon are>Zubat>Beedrill>Jolteon>Doduo>Venonat>Fearow>Gloom>Lapras>Meowth>Psyduck>Omanyte>Aerodactyl.I did miss a few encounters but it's fine. I managed to beat the final two gym leaders, do Seafoam Island, the Mansion and the Sevii Islands. Now it's time for Victory Road
>leafgreen>almost out of viridian forrest>up against a lv. 3 weedle>lv. 6 caterpie has 7 HP>using a potion would mean healing less than 20 HP>switching means a chance of getting poisoned>stay in and die to a crithello darkness my old friend
>>59424646Guessing Gyarados swept both Blaine and Giovanni with Surf, or at least did the heavy lifting. The main concern i have is your levels being so uneven, if Charizard goes down i don't see this run being winnable.
>>59425944I wish it was easier to grind. I've decided when I make it pass Victory Road, I'm gonna spend hours grinding or mabye find a way to hack in Rare Candies and level mu pokemon up to around the Champions level.
>decide to finally play FireRed>boot up game>notice route22 grass patch at the very start of the game got mankey, rattattatta and spearow>1ATK, 1SPD Ev spot>do around 600 battles to make sure I max those out on a mankey and rattattattaOn an autism scale how overkill was this?
>>59426005I-Is that not what everybody does at the start of the game?I think it is easier to do in Route 1 with Rattata and Pidgey since the powerlevel is lower and the Center is closer.
>>59426402Gen III so they only give speed. The only reason I mentioned that is because of Mankey. Having perfectly both speed AND attack on a single grass patch is just asking to make an early sweeper, especially considering how attack types work in that gen.
>>59426005At the very start? Probably up to 11. I've Ev trained before, but in that instance to bring up some new team members closer to the end. Bit of that's how you want to play, nothing wrong with that.
Chapjeet bread
Ended up going with ORAS. Playing the Gen 3 and 6 games back to back, you can really feel the difference in difficulty. Mudkip was already pretty OP in Ruby but here, he is straight up unstoppable. Giving access to Bulldoze and Power Up Punch before Wattson is just broken.
>>59427921And this is all before you get a mega stone and the better TM's. Little to no Geass types is the cherry on top too.
Just beat Whitney. Thallan the Bayleef beat down her Clefairy with Headbutt while setting up Reflect before knocking it out. To beat Miltank, I swapped in to Amy the Gastly to use Curse, and then swapped to Glegla the Wooper to drop Miltank's accuracy with Mud-slap. Both came pretty close to dying by Rollout, but with a couple lucky misses I was able to hold out long enough for the curse to defeat Miltank.
This is my final team. I beat Gary and made it past Victory Road. I'm gonna grind my team up to level 60 before taking on the elite four and champion.Wish me luck.
>>59429177Why haven't you evolved Nidorina?
>>59429189Haven't got there but I will do. I actually forget, how do you evolve her? Do you need a stone or is it level up?
>had to solve 100 captchas to post>>59403668Switch training magikarp continuesHad my first deaths of the run. Lost Beedrill & Rattata to the level 19 Goldeen in front of Misty, and Mankey to a Hyper Fang crit on Route 25Added Butterfree, Oddish, and Meowth to the team, so I finally have an effective type vs Water. Still planning to grind out Gyarados as a backup
>>59429316Both of the Nido lines need a Moon Stone to evolve.
>>59424706Kanto women are the best
