So in Pokemon Yellow released in 1998 a basic PokeBall costs 200 dollars. Today it would cost about 400 dollars.

Where all Pokemon trainers just kids of the really rich?
>>
>>59372291
200 Yen not dollars it'd be about $1.60 in 1998 burger money
>>

I'm glad Pokemon is free of inflation
I would like to see a tech dystopia setting tried eventually though. It could be interesting to be in a region COMPLETELY different than everything else. I think good candidates are California, Canada, Germany, and South Korea

>Inflation in Pokemon
>Dystopian
eh, would be nice. Kanto is a mild dystopia in the sense it lacks a "legendary", there's pollution all over, and implication of post-war with many males gone, only older males around. I think it was reborn/rejuvenation that tried a dystopian setting but it sort of sucked as the plot was too edgy and for faggots.

If they kept the edginess to an acceptable degree (GoD/Colosseum) it would be kino
>>
>>59372372
also to add the GC are probably the closest we'll get to that. Sort of set in SW USA anyway, Orre is like Arizona with the port/green areas being Cali. Unova could have been more dystopian as its set in the US, but they made notNYC too clean

Legends Kanto would be pretty interesting if it was around the war period I think now that you mention it. I was more thinking about the city you go to in Black Version, or like cyberpunk, etc. I think a mountainous region would be really good for it actually you could have a lot of extra verticality in the city and the environment and you wouldn't have the jarring contrast as much that greenery would imo have in this setting. Pokemon has also never really truly had that experience of setting out on to a long adventure up a giant mountain range. I think a system that allows you to camp and visit or see other players camps kind of like DARK SOULS would be interesting because in my mind there would be very little Pokemon centers and scarce items. I think this would be like a core mechanic or area you could go to at any time. Back to the tech dystopia though there's lots of creativity that could be had here. People doing light modding to their Pokemon, people using them for labor and to rob each other and attack the giant corporation or government or whatever exists within the city (this is very explicitly what we've never really had before, Galar did and Kanto did but it was never really felt). The story could be slightly more mature, it would clearly have to be if people were doing as I described because how do you solve all of these issues that are obviously going to be seen as negative and at odds with the world by the player. Do you just nuke it with Arceus? I think something that could work though is that the player kind of like in Z-A uses their skills to try to assume some position of power and after the story it's left open ended basically implying you'll fix things and you can maybe have a little animal crossing esque mechanics and change things a bit and it changes the Pokemon that are in and around the city and shops and etc. Tell me this would not cook. As long as it is not just entirely a city like ZA

>>59372374
These are not canon sadly
>>
>>59372442
Kanto has no legends. Because its the newest setellment region lorewise.
>>
>>59372291
I think a lot of parents gave their kids pokeballs they never used. Ash was lucky he had a rich mom AND professor Oak providing for him he was always in good hands
>>
>>59372291
200 yen is cheap as fuck you retarded burgerbrain.
>>
The Yen is more similar to the Cent than the Dollar.
It's not $200, it's $2.00

An interesting take would be a great economic crisis. With how advanced and interconnected the pokéworld is, one might overlook its fragility and interdependence. The carefree utopia relies on free healthcare (Pokécenters), energy security and monetary exchange; cripple these pillars, and one might see if this idealistic society stands against the uglier facettes of Pokémon's lore which will become much more apparent and frequent. If it fails, it becomes obvious that the idea of becoming a pokemon master is a privilege and just a big sweet lie to distract from the gloomy truth.

Though I'd imagine most would detest such a storyline, as if you don't have to deal with real life issues outside your escapism game already. Then again, most mainline plotlines delved in heavier topics before organized crime and pollution in RGBY / GSC; eco-terrorism in RSE; death cults in DPPt; insurrection and political extremism in BW/B2W2; wars, genocide and orphans in XY; child abuse and poverty in SM; apocalyptic timelines in USUM; energy crisis in SwSh; bullying in SV; hostile architecture and No-Go zones in Z-A so what would be different?

>Colosseum and GoD are not canon
That's a nice claim senator, why don't you back that up with a source?

Also, what type of faggot cares about "canon" in pokemon. Fuck canon.
>>
>>59372291
It's $2.00. Move the decimal up two places, retard.
>>
>>59372301
Why would a game released in English in the US where the currency is called "pokedollars" be based on the value of the Japanese yen? It's obviously based on the US dollars when it was released.
>>
>>59375872
This guy gets it.
>>
>>59373684
Not him but the fact Game Freak haven't yet assigned colo/gale mons a game of origin code, like they do for ALL their other canon games in the canon series proves it. No non-canon game gets a GoO code, no canon game fails to be assigned one.

Still canon, chud.

>TPC-only projects
>ever canon
Why do you think Game Freak are now setting scenarios for spin-off games, hinting at potentially soon-to-be-added forms AND outselling the entire spin-off history of Pokémon the last 28 years while doing so? Because the spin-off wank didn't start appearing until LONG after Pocket Monsters Series had taken Japan by the throat and started shaking and just looking at the sales figures, more people cared about PokémonQuest Builders than cared for all of the gamecube games.
Protip: Unless Game Freak is directly involved with the project, it's non-canon. By how the rights of the entire franchise is organised, only Game Freak are allowed to actually create new lore and canon for the series, TPC have to do what they're told OR work around the hard canon to play in the gaps, cracks and spaces (can't actually catch shit and add to your party, need to acquire pokémon non-standardly, need to timewaste to use them then if they get sent to a proper game they get the treatment they're worth - handwaved into the games instead of having a definitive canon met location assigned to them.

no you're right it makes way more sense that the japanese development team decided to base all their in game pricing around a foreign currency

Pokemon truly is a dystopian world. The average person can't even afford more than a few bottles of water with their average income of a few thousand.
