My personal favorite might be Island of the Giant Pokemon as a great finale to the S.S. Anne mini-arc and an extremely creative idea the series never tried again. That whole stretch of episodes from Bill's lighthouse to finally winning the Marsh Badge is probably the anime at is best, but you could even expand that excellent period all the way up until Electric Soldier Porygon (itself a strong episode).The seizure incident threw off the original timetable for when the show was to be completed and caused execs to both first start getting in Shudo's way and consider extending the series beyond its original plans. That original plan to just adapt Red and Green, and probably in 52 episodes or so, gave the writers a much better goal to work toward and a solid story in mind. The pacing for the show (including the badges) slowed down a ton after the execs changed things, and the Orange Islands and Johto episodes were the result of turning things into a perpetual commercial. Despite some good episodes from that point onward, the quality and direction weren't the same.

I think that episode stands out the most because it's one of the VERY few, VERY rare instances of there being an actual car in-use as part of the episode rather than everyone just walking everywhere. >>59389325Some Gym battles were better than others, yeah, but they had some creativity and overall stories throughout the episodes. Ash on a fast pace through the Gyms with some wins and some pity (or otherwise) Badges into struggling at the League in Episode 50 or something would have worked well. The most crucial thing the League would need to do is make Ash's struggles truly his and not pull the bullshit that the Ritchie episode actually did with Ash abducted at the start then having to escape for most of it. Also, one actual six vs. six battle should have happened in full at the League.
XY the Pokeball Factory.It was like an episode of Tom and Jerry.
>>59386451Heracross vs Scizor one from Johto saga. It perfectly encapsulated Ash's strong points by pitting him against a computer nerd that was deciding who is worthy fighting against him via calcs. Ash's response was just bugging him for battle anyway and then overpowering his numbers with power of passion, free will and Heracross's megahorn.The fight was also cool and very energetic - it was first episode using computer graphics, but mainly for coloring during fight scene so it still was mainly hand drawn.
