Who did you choose in your first playthrough, and what was your reasoning?
I chose Bulbasaur because I saw everyone else picking Charmander and Squirtle, figured I should give the less chosen of the bunch some love.

I picked Bulbasaur because he was green and green was my favorite color back then. I've done many playthroughs with each starter since, I don't have a favorite among the Kanto trio. I like all three.

I played this back in 97 during the dial up age before half of you fucks were born, of course I picked Charmander after seeing Pokemon Red's cover.
Charmander because I like the orange color and fire.

Charmander, because final evolution is cool looking dragon spitting fire and I like dragons, but whole trio is peak in my opinion. I always wanted all of them in my team but I was solofag and didn't want to bother with trading.

I picked Bulbasaur, but replaced him with Oddish since Oddish is the greatest pokemon of all time.

>>59387750This was at least 28 years ago (just assuming because that was the general release time outside japan, though I'm positive it was one year earlier in 97 since I was still in primary school), but I was first playing emulated red on pc at a friends house and it was the first time I'd ever heard of the game. Maybe I just liked the look of charmander, so that's who I picked. Maybe the fact is was called Red possibly also influenced my decision.For this reason, charizard will always unapologetically be one of my favourite pokemon. A simpler time before the world knew just what it had on its hands.

Charizard, purely to one-up my friends who were obsessed over the card game and the Charizard card in particular. None of them had the video game and all were appropriately blown away.I ditched that playthrough without ever beating it and moved on to the superior (in both card and video game) Blastoise, gaining a bro for life.
