How to deal with legendaries

Given Champions is our new VGC simulator (assuming WiWa doesn't shoot it in the back), we'll eventually be getting a Legendary meta in ranked, starting with non restricteds before going to our typical Restricted once everyones been added. Which raises the question - once we get Restricted formats, where does Champions go from there? Does it cycle back to a low power format like M-A after a certain amount of time, or does it stay permanently a Restricted format? And if it does revert back, what happens to the Pokemon in Champions? Okay so for Doubles, I’ve been trying to make the Houndstone work alongside Tyranitar, and the other two I usually bring are Maushold and Raichu Y, but now they don’t feel as strong since they don’t lead anymore. So I sometimes bring Froslass. But now I’m lost on my last slot, I’ve tried Kommo-O, I’ve tried Dragapult, I’ve tried Aegislash, nothing really clicks. My go-to against Archaludon is Expert Belt Iron Fist Conkeldurr. Drain Punch does 74%-87% even if the Arch has max defense, so even his Stamina won't save him from a 2HKO.
With Fire, Ice, and Thunder Punch on him, he can make a pretty versatile sweeper.

However, if you truly want a OHKO, can't Raichu do that with Focus Blast? A max-SpA Focus Blast from Ychu is a guaranteed OHKO even if the Archaludon has max SpD.

Mega Pinsir is actually defensively pretty bulky, roughly the same as Tyranitar. The issue is Mega Pinsir has much less HP, only 65 base HP compared to Tyranitar's 100, and he has type matchup issues with a lot of common types like Rock, Electric, Ice, and Flying.
Pinsir's defense basically has to be his ability to outspeed and kill attackers, since they can hurt him badly if they get a chance to touch him at all.
I wouldn't recommend Double-Edge, as I don't think Pinsir has the HP to deal with the recoil.
For high damage, you could use Thrash, for a Flying-type version of Outrage.
Unfortunately though, his STAB moves in general are not effective against half the types that are a threat to him.
His best offensive spread for survivability would probably be Close Combat, Lunge, Stone Edge, and High Horsepower. Although he'd have no Flying-type STAB, he'd have a super-effective option against every type that threatens him, with Lunge serving as a move he can use against everyone else that has the benefit of increasing his survivability by lowering their attack.
For this, you'd need to go max Attack and Speed.

If you want to go for something really off-the-wall, I'm intrigued by the potential of a max-bulk (HP, Def, SpD) Mega Pinsir with Bind, Detect, Rest, and Sleep Talk.

Here's a lesson for ya'll. Don't be greedy.
In my last game for the day I had an opponent unexpectedly lead against my mono-Ground team. I had led with Stunfisk expecting something else. At this point I predicted a Protect to get a safe speed boost up, so I set up Rocks in response. But my opponent defied my expectations once again and set up a Sword's Dance. Oh boy. Not sure whether I could tank it - maybe I could at least get a Static Activation - I go for Earth Power. My opponent, probably thinking my Stunfisk was passive, goes for another SD. Blaziken incredibly survives on 1%. Bad luck on my part. Figuring it won't matter anyway, I click Discharge. What does Blaziken do? It Baton Passes into Staraptor. Discharge OHKO's the bird.
I'm laughing. My opponent is trying to get swept by a Stunfisk. On what planet does Mega Starraptor need +4 fucking Attack???
His last mon comes in - Sinistea - which beats my Stunfisk (not before I get a critical hit from a Sludge Bomb). Then I just bring in Swampert to Mirror Coat it as a final humiliation to my opponent.
This battle would have certainly gone the other way if my opponent hadn't went for the second SD (again, on what planet). Don't be greedy.

My dumb ass though has tried to Counter Basculegion, Mimikyu, and Dragapult since I started playing. It's not that I forget that they're Ghost-types. It's that I keep forgetting that Counter is affected by type immunities despite doing damage that doesn't calculate for type.

I am weather agnostic. Depriving opp of his expected weather bonuses is enough and Altaria is bulkier than most weather setters and has good utility. Only thing I can think of really missing out on is fast tailwind. Additionally, C9 is better to hurt weather teams than setting a different weather since it can't be overridden and you can stop them getting the full turns if they reset it.

Archaludon's typing is really good. Unfortunately Fairy/Ground doesn't even exist in the game yet, either.

What about Reuniclus? He's slower than Archaludon, but if he lives through the turn, Reuniclus can OHKO with Focus Blast if Archaludon has no SpD investment.
What's the typical spread for Archaludon, anyway? Special Attack and Defense? Special Attack and HP?
Life Orb Reuniclus Focus Blast would be almost a guaranteed OHKO even IF the Archaludon had max HP and Special Defense. But again, he'd have to live long enough to use it.

What about Drampa? He's slow and a Dragon type, so he might serve as perfect bait. The enemy will go for the OHKO with Draco Meteor, so if you do Focus Sash Drampa, being reduced to 1 HP will give 1.5x SpA and make your Focus Blast a OHKO on even the tankiest Archaludon. If the opponent didn't invest in Special Defense, even Earth Power will OHKO.
However, Drampa doesn't have any priority moves, so he'll just die next turn anyway.

Another option would be to go with a fast special attacker like Gengar or Zoroark. However, both of these would still need a Focus Sash because they're only strong enough to OHKO Archaludon if he has no Special Defense investment. If he has maximum SpD, they'd both need to use Nasty Plot first.
Zoroark has the bonus of disguising as another pokemon so the opponent might not necessarily anticipate the Focus Blast, giving you that extra turn of setup. Focus Blast Gengar is very common.

Another problem is that most of this is of course relying on Focus Blast's 70% accuracy. You only get one shot.
The only approach that doesn't is Focus Sash Drampa with Earth Power assuming the enemy didn't invest Special Defense.

It's a drastic strategy, but if you use your Houndstone's Will-O-Wisp to burn your own Guts Machamp (Flame Orb doesn't exist in the game yet, unfortunately) then a max Attack Guts Machamp with Close Combat can get a guaranteed OHKO on a max-Defense Archaludon. Machamp even outspeeds Archaludon, if you give him full speed EVs and Archaludon didn't invest speed at all (why the hell is Archaludon so fast? It gets to be tanky, hard-hitting, AND fast?)

Grimmsnarl is one of those pokemon who'll do you well in lower mid but caps out at a certain point both in smogon singles and doubles unless you come up with something different than the predictable screens and parting shot, being able to Foul Play Masculegion is nice but Bold Umbreon does that better and can actually Taunt Fagiraffe while taking a Fake Out on those teams with regular kanghaskhan thanks to Inner Focus
