You guys ever play any we-have-pokemon-at-home games like Cassette Beasts, Dokimon, and Palworld? Are there any that are actually good and get the feel right? Have you ever tried one that looked good but turned out to be completely soulless?

>>59401078I liked Coromon, I found its monster designs to be pretty cool and gameplay was just slightly altered Pokemon gameplay. Haven't really played others though, apart from Digimon of course.
>>59401150true fact
I did before they were cool. Lost Kingdoms was Pokemon + Yugioh, back when fromsoft made actual games and not endless souls clones
>>59401078Most of these games I've had more fun with than NuPokemon games
>>59401078>>59401150Saymanart pls go
>>59401078Played Touhou Puppet Dance Performance. Pretty well made and a clear evolution of the romhacks that came before it but it has the same problem gen 6 (this released the same year ORAS did) has where everyone getting EXP wrecks the difficulty until the E4 equivalent. Hate to say it but other not-Pokemon games feel too cheap to me, like, the mon designs wouldn't be out of place on the wrapping of an Action Replay cart.
>>59401078Cassette Beasts is genuinely very good, specially the music. Some areas feels a bit empty though, but that could be me.Palworld is self explanatory here. I'm waiting for 1.0 too.And with Cassette Beasts mentioned, I have good news for anyone who liked it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWmH8UgZ1As

I liked Cassette Beasts, LumenTale recently came out which is also good
>>59401078Cassette Beasts is extremely good. One I'd really, really like to recommend is Monster Sanctuary.Combines Metroidvania-style map exploration with creature collecting and battling.Your Metroid 'power ups' come from catching certain creatures that can do things like fly the player, create platforms, push heavy objects, swim etc.The monster battling is turn-based like pokemon but you use teams of 3v3 with 3 more monsters in a 'back up' slot you can sub in and out.The coolest part is that EVERY monster is viable despite there being like 100 of them - there's no early route shitmons, even the basic starting Slime can be built into an amazing debuffer and Healer.I've ran like every monster in this game and they've all been useful the entire run. Leveling up monsters has them using a skill-tree system to get new moves and passives so you can customize the shit out of them and every monster gets their own skill tree.
>>59403350Where, generic and vaguely cool cartoon animals, /vp/ is gonna love this
I hate the designs of these games. They always look like modern Pokemon designs, and modern Pokemon designs suck.At the height of pokemania, the pokeclones at least understood that they had to have their own identity. Digimon manages to be unique in ots designs, so did Monster Rancher and etc.Give me an artistic vision with PERSONALITY.

>>59401078chemistry based type system
>>59404374Green: the defender gets a buff (the attack was ‘weak’ against them). A buff is a positive status effect, which might increase the defender’s stats, or give it a temporary immunity or healing effect.Example: using a Fire-type move on a Water-type monster gives it a shroud of steam that passively heals it.Red: the defender gets a debuff (the attack was ‘strong’ against them). A debuff is a negative status effect, which might do something like reduce the defender’s stats or drain its health over several turns.Example: using a Water-type move on a Fire-type monster extinguishes it, reducing its Melee and Ranged Attack stats.Yellow: the defender is transmuted, changing its type. Different chemistry will apply the next time they’re hit!Example: using a Fire-type move on a Plastic-type monster melts the monster, transmuting it into Poison-type.
Cassete Beasts, Palworld and Digimon Time Stranger are amazing

>>59401078Unfortunately I've been cursed with mongame autism so it's mainly what I look for in vidya. Coromon gets close and was pretty good but the story (pre patch?) was so lame I had to put it down. Nexomon is one that seems like everyone hypes but it feels so soulless to me and I hate those fucking emoji expressions they keep pausing the dialogue for.
>>59401078Never liked CB. Palworld is great. I own Dokimon but I haven't played it yet.I've also got Coromon, which was really funny because the dumbass devs got really performative about the LGBT for a while and they changed the "you live with your mom and go start your adventure" start with "you live with your actual-gay roommate with a big LGBT flag on the wall, and go start your adventure" which was hilarious because it made a lot of people mad at the implication their custom character is gay or that their younger-looking character's being groomed. The devs eventually rolled that back and switched back to giving you the mom intro. Also got Nexomon Extinction, which is solid minus the weird level scaling the game has. After that, Disc Creatures was pretty cool, it gives off a lot of that Dragon Warrior Monsters 1/2 vibe.Creomon 1 and 2. I liked 1, but it was made back when cloud saves weren't a given and I lost both my save file AND the xpac I paid for, so I never returned. I only just recently started 2, I think it might still be on sale for a dollar.Creomon's interesting for two reasons>"HMs" are built in so if something can fly it can fly you places once you unlock that ability and your location limits what you can use, so if you're 5000' in the air, you can ONLY use the monsters that can fly, and if you're on the water, you can ONLY use monsters that can swim.>you, yourself, have a skill tree full of all kinds of little passives and skills to unlockThe only other monster catcher I can think of right now is Spirit Valley, a porn Pokemon clone made by the Scarlet Maidens dev. It's shit. Not only is it one of those shit ATK-DEF-SPD-HP-SP low-effort ass clones where everything's got roughly the same stats, the fetishes are poorly represented, half the sex scenes suck, and you run a pretty high risk of liking a girl only to evolve her into a turnoff that might even be a different fetish. Also the dev only knows how to draw one girl.
>>59407328 (me)(Forgot to mention the Spirit Valley devs just kinda half-assed the game too, it's definitely not finished and never got a final polish pass or any balancing passes at all.)(Also the Coromon devs took a year or two to revert the intro.)If anyone cares, my red flags for monster catching games:>ATK-DEF-SPD-HP-SP stats. No differentiation between physical and magical/special, and an SP system with a rest button. Gameplay always ends up being completely dull and gets repetitive quickly with zero depth>game screws with the type system too much, like making Virus type and Nuclear Fission type and Titanium Alloy type or whatever so it's hard to even begin to guess what's weak to what>too many types. Some of these niggas stuff their game with like 20 types and expect you to memorize them all. Pretty sure I remember at least one game doing Wood, Tree, AND Plant>status effect and stat-draining spam because the dev's a neanderthal that can't think of any better way to make combat more "complex">fetish game doesn't let you roll back an evolution (or use the OG as a skin) if you don't like the evolved formJust romhacks:>edgy storylines with people dying and getting their heads bitten off, people getting burned to death by the box legendary, whatever. Pokemon and that shit don't mix, man>fakemons slipped into an otherwise canon-feeling romhack (bonus: fake megas)>Pokemon getting "fixed", like Dark/Electric Luxray, or giving a bunch of sweaty competitive moves to legendaries and starters, or Pokemon having their stats completely changed to fit how the romhack devs feels it should be>>59407292You gotta remember that the Nexomon games are phone games first, so the overuse of emojis and the blocky UI are because of that.
Palworld and Time Stranger are better than any Switch Pokemon game
