Anyone else feels like they "missed out" when playing older games you never got around to play when they released?

I dropped Pokemon after gen 4 so I skipped gen 5 and 6 and didn't return until gen 7. So now that I'm playing BW and XY, I can't help but feel that I "missed out" on their time of release, so there's really no point to "grind out" these games besides just playing through the main campaign. So not bothering with collecting or dex filling or stuff like that because also the online is dead, so there's no point.
Or do you feel like that overall when playing older games? Like there's no real point to grind out the game because its time has long passed? Like the only game that "matters" to grind out right now is the latest entry or whatever?
>>
You only get this feeling if games (or any media in general) aren't timeless.

The only thing you really missed out on is the Joint Ave or whatever it was called. That was pretty cool.

xy is dogshit though I would have rather not have bought it when it came out

I've never seen an argument over why XY is "bad" other than "uhhh it doesn't have this boring grind 1000 battles in a row mode like in BW2" or those people who keep crying about "muh frontier" when those modes were just mindless grinding to keep you busy back in 2010 when phones and shit hadn't taken off yet.

I do think there's that feeling of "migrating over" to the new gen when the game comes out. I remember when DP came out, I had all my shit in FRLG and then I'd just migrate all my junk to DP, then blow up my FR save file to beat the game again and get the other legendaries to migrate, then that would be it for the game. And then when BW came out, I'd migrate all my shit there too. Kinda feels like once you're done with a game and migrate all the stuff you care about to the new one, you can just nuke your save, and be "done" with that game. Like how everyone has their shit in SV now and then they'll all migrate to WW and so on.

I burned myself out on Pokemon by replaying gens 1-4 before 5 came out and regrett not playing now.

Nowadays I boot up the DS lite for 30 minutes of prog when the day wills or, and I enjoy myself with gen 5 now a lot.

I got into pokemon through Gen 5 and while I was playing Platinum, I felt like missed out on experiencing Gen 4 while it was new. I definitely like the vibe and lore of Sinnoh, and the anime was definitely better then. I still love Gen 5 more than it, but I wished I was introduced to Pokemon as early as Gen 3 sometimes.

LOL couldn't be me. Played every single game the very day it released.
See this is why I don't take zoomer opinions seriously, especially on the older games. They missed out on the true experience and can't ever relive it. Their view on them is twisted and impure, they don't get it.

online was such a huge deal. I hardly engaged with it because I didn't have wireless at home (and shitty fucking DS could only connect to WEP key wireless networks) but being able to trade online and battle was such a huge feature. It definitely was a 'you had to be there' moment.

lmao no I can enjoy Pokémon games new and old in blissful solitude
>>
No, I played every Gen but Gen 3 on its OG release and feel like I dodged a bullet for not subjecting myself to Gen 3 instead of FOMO for not playing it during.
>>
I literally can't play gen 1 or 2, they're just too fucking slow, clunky and ugly.
Oldest I can go and stand playing is gen 3.
I felt like I had to grow up with gen 1 and 2 and play them back then because I just can't get into them.

I only ever go for "full pokedex" in a current-gen game, with older games you're just supposed to catch your favorites, complete the main campaign + whatever post-game content is there (if any). Optional: Look up a video showing all the hidden stuff and trivias if you're a latefag that missed the game and bulk of discussion, they all have some fun little details, but overall that's it. You aren't playing the older games wrong by just focusing on main story, as long as you have caught 'em all in the newest release you still did, there's no need to do it in every single game.

both true
HGSS is both the last good pokemon game and the best one
>>
>>59405335
You can still enjoy the games via FRLG/HGSS so it's fine.

not with that dogshit main campaign. If they had revamped the teams instead of keeping it 1:1 maybe it would have been.
>>
>>59405813
>it's dogshit because a youtuber told me it is
all the teams are kino actually.
yes, even that one.
>>
>>59405077
You only really missed out with gen 5 because the games were so fucking rushed and unfinished that they implemented planned obsolescence right into the core design of the games and locked a bunch of the features to a defunct web app and an eshop game that isn’t accessible anymore.
>>
>>59405827
i don't particularly like gen 5 but i miss the dream world it was fun
>>
>>59405827
It's just the nature of technology advancing but not being able to provide the service for decades.
Crystal in gen 2 had the option of connecting your GBC to your phone so you could trade/battle online, it was the first long-distance multiplayer way before gen 4 and pretty sure you can't do this anymore so it also counts as "planned obsolescence".
The core design point is simply technology, anytime they try to do something with technology or console-specific hardware (like the DS having dual screens which makes a lot of games not being easy to port to newer consoles, etc) then you can only enjoy it for a limited time.

>It's just the nature of technology advancing but not being able to provide the service for decades
It's the nature of game freak rushing gen 5
>>
>>59405906
BW is not some isolated case, tons of DS games had online features that you can't use anymore. You're probably a pokemon-only autist so you don't know those other games.
My point is, this isn't a "BW issue", it's a "video game industry issue" and you can track it all the way back to generation 2.
>>
>>59405514
it's literally just 5 and a half minutes of immature bort (redundant) seething that they've spouted here a million times before

no compelling points to be found
>>
>>59405914
>th-there are other shitty rushed games on the DS!
yeah we know
