The new handholding literally breaks the map design, and replacing a 7 facility postgame with a single copy pasted facility from xy, a bunch of busywork catching legendaries in the most generic settings possible, and an epilogue that's 90% cutscene is a fucking travesty. I beg of you, raise any point of praise for this pile of dogshit because I guarantee you I've already picked it apart and shown how shitty it truly is or at the very best, it's worse than it was in Gen 3. The Battle Frontier's mechanics force the player to engage with the depth on offer in the games it's present in. You have to learn to breed and achieve desirable characteristics, you have to EV train, and you have to be skilled at teambuilding to find success which isn't a problem for people who actually enjoy the core series' gameplay. You find yourself analyzing map design, building utility pokemon to help optimize certain tasks/parts of the map, and playing the game to its fullest and your reward is effectively a second campaign. Please tell me how on earth a bunch of legendaries in hastily slapped together generic caves/fields, a single copy/pasted battle facility on a significantly smaller island, and an epilogue that's 90% cutscene, 5% flying to the next cutscene and 5% actual battles somehow better than something as rich and deep as the Frontier??? You have to remember, before Gen 6 you only had perfect Pokemon if you hacked which not everyone had the convenience of doing. Gen 6 was the first time you could feasibly get perfect or near perfect Pokemon in game. Couple that with the fact that by Gen 6 your average player knew how to actually build good teams and the idea that we could get a Battle Frontier that was actually doable was exciting. To then have it snatched away (and be mocked for it with "The Battle Frontier Project has started!") was a slap in the face that left a bad taste in many people's mouthes.
