Why does this part of Kanto always feel like a tedious slog to play through? I always consider quitting my playthrough every time I have to walk through these routes. Cycling road also induces this feeling but not as hard.
>>
Was it ever explained why Chesterton's Fence is there?
>>

Same. I've always disliked those routes. I dropped a playthrough there recently lol.
>>

I mean it's a much longer stretch than any other routes in the game and is just a fuckton of generic trainers without anything else to do. isn't it pretty much entirely optional at least? it's a good place to grind levels if you're behind, but there isn't really any need to go through there if you don't want to.
>>
>>59406911
It would've made sense to put a town where routes 13 and 14 connect.

Fuck you, that's unironically one of my all time favourite bits!

There's also a convenient stop in the middle of it in Vermillion + player just left Celadon, preferably with Fly HM. It's obvious that player is encouraged to explore this part of the game in more than one take.

yeah I treat it as a place to chip away at for exp. if you get burnt out because you feel like you need to approach it as a big mandatory gauntlet, that's kind of on you. it's still probably the worst designed area in Kanto but I don't see why it would end anybody's run. technically you don't even have to go here, you'll just miss out on exp.

I wonder if this was one of the last routes that they made because the early prototype maps for gen 2 feel kinda like this route with labyrinthine layouts.
imo unlike later gens, I get the feel that gen 1 kinda assumes that you're going to skip trainers rather than fighting everyone in one go.

Having the two routes that connect to Fushcia swarming with trainers was probably a balancing thing so you could train lower-level pokemon, or maybe they wanted to make sure that you would have enough money for the Safari Zone game? It's needed for the HM after all.

It doesn't feel real. The way how randomly placed the platforms and fences are makes it hard to believe this route serves any purpose, except for the sole reason to exist. So why put any effort into something that didn't make any sense to begin with?

The top-right spot by the sea is a fishing spot, you battle a lot of fishing trainers and there's even a house to get a Rod.
>but why are they placed like a schizo?
It was originally a black and white gameboy game with simpler graphics, they probably were trying to compensate the simple graphics with shapes and turns. The remake was merely reproducing the original layouts.
The only mysterious part is the section with fences. I think it serves merely a gameplay purpose since you need to pay attention to navigation and the placement of NPCs in case you want to avoid, so it's basically like a mini-dungeon.
>>
It's simply a route designed as a video game level before as a piece of the world.
>>
>>59406911
Idk maybe you're a fag because I never thought that ever. Maybe you were raped the first time you went that way.
>>
Because instead of one route and a town, or a dungeon and a town, it's three routes back to back. You're going to run into PP issues by the time you reach Fuschia, and all the trainers mean battles you need to fight through. Cycling Road in contrast is very quick, not only do you move at a brisk pace downhill but there's not a lot of trainers along the way.

Looks like a half-assed way to pad up time
>>
>>59407173
looks like every route in gen 6+ besides 9 which was a randomly generated empty minecraft world with 0 human design

In three years, nobody dealt with the Snorlax, so it just got bigger, fatter, and higher leveled as it moved further inland.
>>
>>59406911
It's a very long route and feels like someone's first level design
>>
>>59406911
If you have the bike, you can always take Routes 16, 17 and 18 instead.
>>
>>59406911
Probably because Kanto fucken sucks lol
>>
>>59406911
Sounds like a (You) thing. I can't say I've ever felt any negativity towards this very uncontroversial section of a game.
>>
>>59406916
Hello based GK Chesterton enjoyer
>>
You obviously never played the game without guides being a dumb kid trying to find a way to make Snorlax move away and keep exploring. The sheer excitement of causing Snorlax to wake up and having a free path ahead of you was enough motivation to finish the routes in a breeze.

The fences could be swaped by a bush maxe, and it would have been alright. Maybe put a small house, and have it all be property of a club or something like that.
>>
>>59406911
Because there are loads of trainers with underleveled teams and none of them are challenging/memorable
>>

The only one I remember is the guy from GSC who had a king-themed team, including the only Slowking in the game.
