I mainly stay the fuck away from the main story and especially Colress since I don't want to be dissected.

I planned on excusing him not dying by having the ending large-scale battle sequence involve snippets of a Xatu who insisted on staying in a very specific spot the whole time (this would’ve been over like 6-8 chapters). And when the MC rode his Mega Aerodactyl into a 50+ foot tall Regigigas’ knee to knock it over and save the city, the Xatu would have a group of psychic types telekinetically brace his fall and save his life. But his leg would be horribly fractured and he’d walk with a limp the rest of his life. Although it would’ve been captured on camera and he would be a legend in the region’s history.

Sometimes the other fights/skirmishes leak into what the POV character is dealing with and vice versa, so you gotta have that planned and accounted for but not focus on it at all (it’s very tempting cuz work is being put into it).

How much of your story do you know when starting out? I think I have the major beats of the story all filled out already in my head, I know with some experience that it usually never goes to plan.
